FIRE MOTH BASE – 2019(Previous era) (fifteen days later)
Kevin opened his eyes slowly, groggy and disoriented. The first thing he noticed was the light on the top of his head which was shining quite brightly, he could make some sounds here and there but nothing more. As he tried to move, he found that his body failed to respond. He felt like his body was made of lead or he was turned into stone, like in those stories that he read.
As he became more and more conscious, he noticed properly where he was. It seemed like a medical facility of some kind; he felt a tube in his mouth most probably an oxygen mask. He also noticed at least two dozen thick tubes pumping various fluids into his body, he was confused wasn't the amount being pumped into him too much? Also, there were multiple medical equipments attached to his body. As he thought he decided to speak as his mouth was able to move now
"Wh…re….th…is…"
His voice was very faint and he frankly didn't expect anyone to hear it. Then he heard someone murmuring beside him. He tried to turn his head to the source of sound but couldn't fully as he felt something obstructing his head movement. However, with what little he could move, he saw a mop of lime green hair on the side of the bed he was laying on. The said mop was rousing slowly after hearing some kind of voice.
"Mmmmm….. what happened?" said a familiar voice "Oh right, I fell asleep on his side and-" the person continued while rubbing their eyes "What time is it?"
"Mo….bius-…san." Kevin said weakly.
At this the person stopped suddenly, they looked over at him. Green-pink met Sky-blue ones.
"Ke…vin?"
"Yeah." Kevin said now starting to gain his ability to speak.
Mobius suddenly closed the distance between them and held his hand while sobbing.
"You're awake, you're awake…. sob, sob….. thank goodness, thank goodness."
Mobius started to sob uncontrollably saying the same sentence over and over again while holding his hand like a lifeline. Kevin with whatever movement he could muster clasped her hand and said:
"It's all right now Mobius-san."
"It's not...sniff… you were hurt so badly...sniff…. and then your heart stopped beating...sniff…. I thought you were…"
"I'm all right and now here." he spoke.
"I told you to run away… sob…. But you had to be a hero and fight it alone, sob… and then you ended up like this." Mobius said while holding his hand and crying silently.
After some time when she calmed down, Kevin asked:
"How much time has it been since then?"
"Fifteen days."
"I see. So, what happened after I fell unconscious?"
Mobius then started to explain how the reinforcements headed by Himeko and Ato arrived soon after. They found him half-dead along with the corpse of the Herrscher. Since he was in critical condition, they moved him to the base as fast as possible where he was operated on immediately by her along with the other doctors.
"Wait you operated on me?"
"Yes, you had lost too much blood and had multiple wounds to your internal organs. While operating your heart also stopped a few times." Mobius said while new tears appeared in her eyes.
"I really thought I was going to lose you, you stupid reckless idiot."
"…."
Seeing his expression Mobius calmed herself down again and continued:
"The Herrscher's corpse was also brought back. Welt and I were going to do the dissection on it after you woke up."
"I see. Then is everyone safe then?"
"We lost a portion of our forces in the eruption due to an increase in the number of Honkai beasts." Mobius said in a low voice
"I see. I failed them again." Kevin said depressingly.
"Don't say that. You protected so many others. If you hadn't fought and defeated the Herrscher, many others would have died and it would have been a greater tragedy. It's not your fault Kevin."
"It is my fault Mobius-san, I failed so many. Their blood is on my hands because I was weak."
"it's not like-"
"It is like that Mobius-san, this is my sin and I won't run away from it." Kevin said with a tone of finality.
Seeing that she could not persuade him, Mobius dropped the topic. Seeing him blame himself hurt her but what could she do? Deciding to change the topic she said:
"Anyway, you are to be on a complete bed rest for two months after which we will begin your rehabilitation."
"But-" Kevin tried to protest.
"No ifs and buts Kevin Kaslana, I'm the doctor here and I say you need two months of bed rest and that is final."
"Mobius-sa-"
"I said no." she cut off any further protests.
"Sigh…. Fine, as you say." Kevin knew he couldn't win now.
Seeing him finally accept her decision, her face softened and she said in a soft tone that he has never heard from her:
"Take a good rest and recover alright. You deserve it more than anyone… my hero." the last part was said in a whisper.
"What did you say Mobius-san I didn't hear you."
"Nothing." She said and did something completely out of character for her, she gave a chaste kiss on his cheek and got up.
"Rest now, I will come back in the evening."
Kevin could not make head or tails out of her actions and decided to not think further on it. As she started to leave his room she stopped at the doorway and spoke:
"Thank you for coming back to me, Kevin." saying this she walked away.
Kevin was left utterly confused by her actions and decided to close his eyes to get some rest. These medicines were making him hallucinate.
Four months later
Kevin was finally allowed to join active duty after three months of rest and recuperation much to Mobius' dismay. That evening Mobius along with everyone visited him. By that time, many of the tubes have been removed and he was able to sit up. Griseo upon seeing him ran and tackled him down, she latched herself to him and started crying while saying Nii-Nii, Himeko also hugged him and started sniffing while saying how much of an idiot he was.
Welt and Ato aniki could only shake their heads, they came and smacked his back saying that he was being too cool, fighting a Herrscher all alone, to which Kevin denied. This caused aniki to puff his cheeks and said that if he was in his place, he would be boasting about it for years to come. This was replied by pinching his ear by Clara-san who started to scold Kevin for how reckless he was. She was joined by Himeko aneki and the two big sisters scolded him for almost three hours continuously. When he looked at Welt-san to save him he just said he deserved it.
After everyone calmed down Welt-san gave the full details of all the happenings. The second eruption caused millions of casualties due to the inability of the normal forces to deal with those beasts. This caused many national governments into total disarray; many countries were absorbed into others now creating federations and empires. Those federations had reorganized the World politically into five continents, the earlier continents of Asia and Europe were combined and renamed: MU, after the lost continent in local tribal myths of the Pacific tribes.
The newly appointed United Federations had realized the importance of the MOTHS and have fully recognized them. From now on the Moths will be recognized as the primary military and will be given all the necessary resources and manpower to continue their fight against the Honkai. The First institute was also recognized as an international organization and many aspiring researchers joined it to help them fight against the Honkai.
The same could be said about the military portion of the organization as well. Now the Moths were recruiting people as soldiers from every part of the world and building bases all across the world. This base would be their central headquarters with the different bases under them. The recruitment drive was extremely popular with people joining from all kinds of places to fight against the Honkai after having seen the devastation of the second eruption. Their organization was now a worldwide one with a large number of resources and political power as well.
General Alexei then explained that to lead this huge number of people there were a lot of commanders needed; that meant Kevin would be promoted as well despite him fighting the 2nd Herrscher alone and disobeying orders. So, the promotions were as follows:
Himeko and Ato were promoted to Colonels each now leading around 3000 men.
Kevin was directly promoted to Major, now leading 1500 men.
In addition, Welt was appointed as the head of the entire Science and Research division of the Moths. Dr. Tesla was appointed as the head of the Second institute focussing on weapons development and Dr. Einstein was appointed as the head of the Third Institute mainly leading countermeasures and damage mitigation against Honkai radiation.
This huge influx of manpower meant that their responsibilities would increase. Thus, Kevin focused on his rehabilitation to join active duty faster. The rate of his recovery astonished even the most renowned physicians; it was also due to the mark on his right forearm. Mobius and Einstein performed various tests and could only conclude for now that it was a natural defensive measure against the Honkai of some kind. After this mark appeared on his body, Kevin's natural Honkai resistance increased to the level of borderline immunity astonishing everyone.
But this borderline immunity could not bring back what was lost. During the second eruption due to exposure to extreme amounts of Honkai energy Kevin's primary somatosensory cortex was permanently damaged, which meant that he would not be able to feel physical stimuli again. When the examination results came out everyone including Mobius was saddened. Kevin would never be able to feel again, another's touch or their warmth; however, it mattered little to the man himself. Kevin saw it as an unnecessary distraction being moved out his way, now without the worry of pain affecting him, he could very well push his body to its limits more often. This angered Himeko and Mobius to no end but he was stubborn to follow it through. He decided to get even stronger so what happened in the second eruption would never repeat itself.
Kevin regularly visited the memorial in the Moth cemetery for the people who had fallen in the second eruption. He remembered what he saw in that vision he had when he was impaled by the 2nd Herrscher's lances. *** said that they have entrusted their hopes, dreams, and wishes to him to carry forward and thus, he decided to carry them with him till the day it was his turn to dust and scatter on the same fields where they lay.
So now that brings us here. The newly recruited members of the 7th battalion were having their regular exercise devised by Kevin himself when he was recuperating in the simulator arena developed by the technical researchers of the Third institute. The new training regime was even stricter than the last as he only wanted those who can handle themselves against the beasts twice as powerful than what his old squad faced on a regular basis.
This was made easy due to the massive improvements in the technology of the Honkai weapons thanks to intensive research into the Herrscher corpse that they had. Now the weapons that these new soldiers had were more powerful than what he had before the second eruption. The training was furthermore simplified and made safe by the introduction of simulator rooms, in here soldiers could hone their prowess with life-like simulations of the honkai beasts and could improve their battle skills by engaging in real-time battles against them.
The simulator arena also had something of a leader board system, where the performance of each member was ranked. As Kevin prepped himself, he equipped the standard-issue broadsword as the Solflame was broken beyond repair against the fight with the 2nd Herrscher; Welt-san has told him that his new sword was still under making and he will give it at the end of this week, meaning he could test it on the next mission. He also equipped his new pistols APOLLO, which boasted ten times the power over the earlier BABEL. As he went into the simulator, he set the difficulty to EXTREME as usual. Once the simulation started, he was greeted with dozens of Emperor-class beasts.
'Too easy.'
These simulated beasts had nothing on the ones he shot down in Brussels after the surge. He shot his pistols instantly killing two of the beasts.
"Let's begin." he said to himself.
Kevin was wiping down his pistols after the simulation battle. As usual, it was far too easy than what he was accustomed to on the field. The entire battle ended within ten minutes, the fastest out of anyone. In the leader board rankings, Kevin had the top spot from the moment he re-joined. None could beat him no matter how much they tried. But none of them knew the training that he was undergoing to become that strong.
After his rehabilitation had ended, Kevin had increased the intensity of his training tenfold, he was also learning sword martial arts from different disciplines and combining them to create his own style. He also had started to focus more on his surroundings so as to not get caught off guard with how he did with the 2nd Herrscher. All in all, Kevin was getting further stronger at a fast pace that even his seniors couldn't keep up with.
As he finished wiping down the weapons, he went to fill out the feedback form. The Moth members were required to fill them objectively and honestly so the simulator arena could be further improved. Kevin just wrote three words in the feedback as usual:
FURTHER IMPROVEMENT NEEDED.
"Oi oi, are you writing that again?"
"Aniki."
He saw Ato standing while propping himself against the wall, once Kevin greeted him Ato continued:
"Man. You always write that same thing; all the technical researchers in Einstein's labs are going ballistic 'cuz you write to improve it further but they don't know how. Give them a break."
"I'm just giving them honest feedback."
"Well not everybody is a monster like you who can kill Emperor-class with only pistols. Heck, I think nobody in the entire organization can handle the output of those pistols." Ato said pointing at the APOLLO.
"Yeah." Kevin said with a faraway look, if he was this much strong earlier then maybe-
Seeing his faraway look Ato decided to change the topic:
"By the way, have you seen the second in the rankings?"
"No, what about it aniki?" Kevin asked.
"Take a look then." Ato urged.
As Kevin brought up the rankings, he saw who was in the second position. Although the difference between him and that person was like a chasm; however, that person's innate skills were on par with him, maybe with proper training and experience, they could come to his equal someday. Kevin checked the name of that person.
ELYSIA LEVEDEVA.
He had never heard the name before, so she must be a new recruit. Kevin decided to inquire more about her:
"Have you met her aniki?"
"Oh, how do you know it's a her?" Ato teased.
"The gender is written in the primary information." Kevin said deadpanned.
"Geez, you are no fun at all." Kevin kept his deadpanned gaze "Fine… Yeah, so her, I have met her only once. She is from the city of Vladivostok in the now Russian federation, I think? As for her personality… it's unique, to say the least."
"Unique?"
"Yeah, I have not met anyone introducing themselves as 'a girl pretty and sweet as a newly blooming flower in spring'."
"…." Kevin was too stunned to speak; he kept the same neutral face for some time before speaking:
"I'm sorry what?"
"You heard me." Ato laughed his signature laugh "Himeko said that when she was overseeing the induction program, the reason that girl gave for joining was: to spread love and happiness to all the weary souls in the Moths especially their strongest fighter: THE GODSLAYER."
Kevin's face twitched a little at hearing that name. After things settled down his exploits spread like wildfire among many who were in the command room that day. And thus, he was given the moniker:
GODSLAYER.
It was meant to show him respect for his achievements, namely duelling and defeating a Herrscher on all his own. But this was nothing more than a headache for Kevin as he was now pestered by newly recruited members to join his regiment and he had to decline them every time.
Kevin didn't know who this girl was but he was sure that she didn't know him. He is no hero; he is a monster who failed to save even a single person in Brussels. He mentally decided to stay away from this girl as he will only bring pain and destruction as he had brought to so many others.
"Oh right, today is the first of that tradition night. Who knows maybe you will meet her tonight?" Ato spoke. After the growth of the Moths, general Alexei decided to hold a formal ball every year at the end of the induction period of the newbies. It was so they can interact and socialize with their seniors and themselves to build a sense of camaraderie and friendship.
"I am not going."
"Eh? Why not?"
"Not interested." was his curt reply.
"Oi, do you know how many guys and gals are coming to the ball just to meet you?"
"I have work to do."
"Like?"
"…"
"Let me guess, you want to sneak outside again to fight against actual beasts for your so-called personal training."
"…" Kevin remained silent.
"Sigh… when will you learn. If Himeko, Clara, or Mobius learns of this they are going to chew you down."
"…" Kevin still didn't say anything.
"What will I learn?" a new voice interrupted. They saw Himeko walking toward them. As she approached them, she noticed the weekly ranking board; as usual, Kevin dominated it.
"Good work Kevin." Himeko congratulated him.
"Hmm." Kevin nodded.
"So, what were you guys talking about?"
"About how he doesn't want to go to the ball and wants to spend time training."
At this Himeko frowned and said:
"You know it's general's orders that all high-ranking Moths should be specifically present in the ball right Kevin?"
"You and aniki are more than enough. I'm not needed." Kevin replied.
"You know that's not true; many people want to meet the Hero who defeated the 2nd Herrscher alone."
"I'm no Hero aneki, I'm a monster." Kevin said in his usual denial and self-depreciation.
"Yes, yes whatever you say. Still, you have to attend."
"I don't have proper clothes." Kevin tried one last attempt.
"Don't worry 'bout that otouto, I got you covered." Ato hammered the final nail in the coffin.
Kevin, seeing that he won't be able to get out of this one relented, but he put his condition for coming to the ball:
"Fine. But I will leave after two dances."
"That is perfectly acceptable. I look forward to how you will look in formals." Himeko said judging his physique "From the way I see it many hearts are going to be broken tonight." She teased.
"I know right. This guy has such a perfect build and looks, and he wastes it all away by doing his ice-cold act." Ato said exasperated.
"Now don't say that Ato. To say truthfully, many girls like the ice-cold prince persona. They dream to be the princess to melt that frozen heart." Himeko said.
"What? I didn't know this. Damm you Lady-killer."
Kevin could only tilt his head at the nonsense they were talking about. Someone liking him, the Honkai getting defeated tomorrow has more chances than that. Nobody will like a monster like him for what he is, this he already accepted long ago. Not like he could like anyone back either, he died long ago and dead people can't like anyone. To him as long as could keep others safe from Honkai, that would be more than enough. His oath was what drove him now, nothing else; but that was fine for him.
"Oh, by the way, we were also talking about the second-ranked girl in the leader boards, you know the one in your Regiment."
"Hmm, Elysia? What about her?"
"Well, he was interested in her a little." Ato said slyly.
"Hoho, what's about this I hear, Kevin?" Himeko asked in a teasing voice.
"Aniki if you don't stop creating misunderstandings, I will tell Clara-san how you tried to flirt with that girl in the 2nd Regiment. As well for you aneki, I will report to the general about the usage of surplus funds granted to maintain equipment for your personal shopping spree." Kevin said with a straight face.
"Geh.", "Ugh." Both of them stopped at once, if these things really come to light, then they can say their peaceful life goodbye.
"Fine, you wanted to know about her right?" Himeko said changing topics "well from what I can see she is an earnest and optimistic person. She does her role perfectly and is sincere; trying to spread a smile all around her, it's just that-"
"Hmm" Kevin urged her to go on.
"-she can be a little intrusive sometimes, but she doesn't pry into anyone's private matters. So don't think badly of her Kevin. She is just pushy for the things that she believes are best for those close to her."
Himeko continued "I know that you don't want to share your burden with anyone else, and I like that about you. However, she is the complete opposite of you, Kevin. She believes by working, sharing our burdens, sadness and happiness, sharing our responsibilities, and trusting each other we can overcome any obstacles in front of us. Really, her positivity is so infectious that sometimes even I get swept up in it."
"She sounds like a good girl." Ato said.
"Yeah, that she is. She and her friend Dystopia are like two sunflowers in my regiment. I'm really glad that we got some cuties like her."
"Man, I'm so jealous. The only ones I got were some extremely stuffy men and a sort of crazy kid." Ato complained.
"Oh, you told me about him, if I'm correct his name was 'Kalpas', correct?"
"Yeah, him. He can be a handful sometimes. Do you know the first thing he did in the introduction session was to challenge everyone on the field in a duel? He even won against Emile and had beaten him half to death before I had to step in and calm him down. He is one fiery guy for sure."
"You've got the short end of the stick this time huh?" Himeko sympathized.
"Tell me about it."
"Anyway, as I was saying, Elysia is your polar opposite of you. If I have to give an analogy; you are like a tall mountain, standing bravely protecting everyone yourself but are too cold to approach; and she is like a gentle river, giving peace and caring for everyone coming near her." Himeko said fondly. She was thinking while saying this:
'I really hope for this river to seep into your heart and nourish you. To heal the pain you carry, Kevin.'
Kevin was listening to the conversation quietly. The more he listened the more he was dismissive of her: 'sharing pain and responsibilities?' what a joke. His pain, burdens and responsibilities were his own, and he didn't need anyone else's help to carry them. He will purge the Honkai and burn down those false gods. He will protect everyone on his own even if he turns to dust in the process. This was his promise to them and his oath and he will follow it to the end.
He really hoped that he would not meet her at the ball.
Night of the Ball
Kevin was fixing his undershirt's collar for the umpteenth time. He felt really strange in these clothes. A white undershirt was tucked into a pair of smooth black pants, he was wearing a matching tuxedo with the buttons opened as he felt suffocated keeping it closed. He was not also wearing a bowtie as he thought he looked like a clown in that. He didn't slick his hair back as his natural hairstyle complimented his look according to Clara-san. When he stepped out of the room fully dressed, she was blushing lightly and said that he looked very handsome. Griseo hugged him saying he looked very good and she will marry him in the future to the utter despair of Ato.
As he stepped into the venue, all eyes were upon him. The guys were mostly lightly scowling at him while looking with respect at the same time. The girls were averting their faces which were mostly tinged with red for some reason. He made his way to one of the walls of the main hall and stood there with his back against it supporting him. He simply closed his eyes, folded his arms and waited for the General to start the celebrations.
The celebrations started with General Alexei congratulating the new recruits who passed the initial testing and formally welcoming them into the Moths proper. He then went and gave a simple speech on the ideology of the Moths and what was to be expected of the new recruits. He also encouraged them to strive to do better and to become a beacon for humanity's war against the Honkai. He finally ended the opening address by acknowledging the hard work and sacrifice of many of the soldiers who came before. Hearing that his comrades from the 7th squad get some recognition brought a hint of peace to Kevin. Now he had to give his best to pave the path they once did for the future generations.
Then the celebration began with the first dance, many women and girls tried to approach him but were not brave enough to ask the GODSLAYER: the Hero of Moths. So instead, he chose to spend his time observing others. Himeko aneki was wearing a gorgeous dark-blue party dress, as usual many men tried to make a move on her only to get shut down. They left sobbing afterwards, however it didn't stop others from trying. Every male in the room wanted to have the first dance with the Crimson Valkyrie as she was called. She finally went ahead and danced with one of her old comrades from the 4th regiment. The man's expression could only be called stupid as he danced with her.
Ato aniki and Clara-san were dancing together, for all of his flirting aniki was an extremely loyal man to his family. They both were having fun as he noted; they were a perfect match Kevin admitted. Klein was dancing with Griseo, but they were having difficulties due to them both being inexperienced in dancing, but they were enjoying it nonetheless. Welt-san was dancing with Dr. Tesla, he noticed they had an air of something in between them. He decided to confirm his suspicions at a later date by asking aniki. General Alexei was dancing with Dr. Einstein, both enjoying the music.
All in all, everyone was enjoying the good music noted Kevin as he started to relax and sip his drink. He was privileged with the permission to drink alcohol even though he was a minor technically as he had shown the demeanour of an adult in his missions and actions. Not to mention he was also a Major now, so many people were letting something minor such as age restriction slip. As he observed the people dancing and enjoying themselves a voice spoke up:
"What are you doing all alone here Kevin?"
When he turned, he saw Mobius approaching him. She was wearing a dark-green dress that accentuated her curves. It was an elegant backless dress that increased her charm by tenfold. She was wearing high heels that made her reach up to Kevin's chin, while usually she only came up to his chest. She had light makeup with light-pink lipstick which made her look like a model. Her hair was primed and fell behind he shoulders like a waterfall. She also wore a small necklace and long gloves that made her look like an elegant rich noble.
"Nothing Dr. Mobius, I was just observing everyone dancing."
"I told you to call me Mobius." She pouted.
"We are in a formal setting doctor."
"sigh… you are so stubborn sometimes." Mobius sighed.
"…"
She then shyly asked while clasping her hands backwards:
"Kevin…. So how do I look?"
"You are beautiful." Kevin said sincerely with the same serious expression.
Hearing this made Mobius blush and her heart beat like crazy. Why did he say things like this with a serious face? It was not fair. She was only going to fall harder for him. She finally admitted her feelings for the boy to herself. She was head over heels for this person named Kevin Kaslana. However, she knew that he didn't reciprocate her feelings; heck she was sure that he didn't even see her as a woman. He was too focused on his crusade against Honkai to do that, but that was okay. She had time until he reached adulthood, as he was only fifteen now. She wanted to take this slow as she knew she had no competition. The only one who could be was that red-haired woman, however, they just had a sibling relationship to Mobius' relief.
This did not mean that she could let her guard down, however. She had noticed the looks women and those girls were giving him when he entered the hall. Harlots; all of them, they just were lusting over him without even trying to know him, his burdens, his sadness. She was going to make sure that none of those harlots would ever approach him. She'll be dammed if she let anyone take Kevin away from her. He was hers and hers only, and she wouldn't let anyone say otherwise.
To this end, she gathered up her courage and asked:
"Would you like a dance with me?" Mobius asked while bowing down with courtesy.
"Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?" Kevin asked.
"It's not like you give any thought to the traditions."
"I suppose so, but still-" Kevin said as he knelt down in front of her like a knight and asked while holding out his hand:
"Would you like to have this dance, fair lady?"
Squeals were coming from different places and jealous grumbles from others. Mobius was embarrassed; but more than that she was happy. He was such a knight, her knight in shining armour.
Accepting his hand with a bashful expression she said:
"I would love to."
As he guided her to the dance floor while gently holding her hands, Mobius felt like she was in a fairy tale. She always thought it to be a fantasy but this man was proving it to be otherwise. He was strong, brave, intelligent and most importantly Kind. For the first time in her life, she could start to see a future with someone. Is this what her mother felt for her father? She wondered.
As they started dancing, Kevin held her with the utmost courtesy and gently as if she was a flower, the thought made her heart soar again. As the song progressed, she rested her head on his shoulders. For this moment, they were not a soldier and a researcher, nor were they the head of the First institute and the Godslayer; they were just Mobius and Kevin.
As the song ended and he escorted her back, she felt her heart ache again that the moment has come to an end. Kevin gave his courtesies and walked away disappearing into the sea of other people. After she could no longer see him, she said to herself in a low voice what she felt for him:
"Tha gràdh agam ort, Kevin."
Kevin was sitting outside on a bench staring at the starry sky. After the dance with Mobius-san, he talked with the other battalion commanders like him. He then had conversations with aniki, aneki, General, Welt-san, Dr. Tesla and Dr. Einstein. He also danced with Griseo at her request. After deciding that he had socialized enough, he went outside the building to get some time alone. He soon found an empty bench and sat down on it.
As he was looking toward the stars, he wondered whether things will remain the same next year? How many of them will be remaining to attend the ball next year? How many funerals will be there before that? How many will not be able to get even that?
Even though he decided to protect others, he realized he was only one man; he possibly can't save everyone. It was just not possible how much he worked hard. Even if he kills the Herrschers as fast as possible, they will still claim hundreds if not thousands of victims in the Honkai eruptions. Such thoughts weighed heavily upon him; however, he was not willing to give up despite that. He made a promise to *** after all. If he was weak now, he just had to grow stronger. So strong that he could protect much, much more than before. He will carry the weight of the world until the very end, he decided as he clenched his hands.
"Do you want something from me?" he asked the shadow that was tailing him from the moment he left the building.
"giggle… I really thought my stealth was perfect. As expected from the hero of the Moths."
"I'm no hero."
"Ara~ but I have heard of only your knightly deeds from other senior members and from the commander herself."
"Sigh… show yourself."
"But I am shy Major Kevin."
"Then I will move somewhere else, seeing as you are uncomfortable."
"W-wait." the voice was obviously flustered "Mou~ you really are ice-cold as they say. This is not how you treat a girl, Major."
"I'm not interested in treating someone nice who doesn't even show their face." Kevin said evenly.
"Hai, hai…. Well, don't faint when you see my beauty okay~." the voice said slyly.
The shadow stepped out. The first thing Kevin saw was light pink hair which was tied into a low ponytail held by a butterfly-shaped hairclip. Her eyes were a light blue with pink pupils the same shade as her hair. She was wearing an elegant black dress which made her look mature. She had the body of a model (not that Kevin noticed it) which was also fit for battle. A small mischievous yet warm smile was on her face and her eyes held a warmth that Kevin only saw in Clara-san's eyes when she spent time with Griseo.
As she neared him, she leaned towards him while smiling all the same. Kevin took a step back feeling uncomfortable by her closeness.
"Mou~ why are you distancing yourself from me."she said sounding upset and frowning a little.
"Too close." Kevin replied curtly.
"Oh, so you are one of the types who maintain a distance from others, I wonder why?" she said while making a pondering face.
"None of your business." Kevin replied coldly.
"So cold. But I suppose that is a part of your charm."
"Who are you?" Kevin asked objectively.
"Oh my~ I was so rude; I didn't even introduce myself." She said in a singing voice.
"My name is Elysia Levedeva from Vladivostok in Russian Federation, I'm in Colonel Himeko's Regiment. Nice to meet you, Major Kevin. Let's do our best together~." she introduced herself in a cheerful tone.
Kevin could only groan inwardly; things just got a lot more complicated.
To be continued….
Hello everyone, welcome back to 'A Warriors Destiny'.
So we are now moving towards Nagazora and the third eruption which should not be as difficult for Kevin as he will have some assistance and better weapons than before. In the next chapter, we are going to be introduced to a very special character, as well as see the improved combat of Kevin. We will also see our Miss Pink Elf in action. Anyway, the story will start moving forward in the next chapter
