Halcyon Days
FIRE MOTH BASE – 2020(Previous era) (Seven months later)
"You want me to go to school?"
"Yes." Welt said "One of my associates Dr. Ryoma Kiyome is living in Nagazora along with his daughter. He was one of my friends and partners in quantum research back in our professor days. Some of the ideas about fighting Honkai were initially thought of by him. Heck, Soulium could only be completed because he provided the framework for the nano-robots integration with ordinary metals. He truly is a genius not like any other."
"And you want me to?" Kevin stopped Welt's ranting.
"Ahem… Yeah, about that. I want you to be the liaison between me and him as we share ideas."
"Why me?" Kevin was not amused. He had many other important things to do, like killing more beasts for example.
"Because you are the closest in age to High school-going age. Dr. Ryoma has asked to look after his daughter in exchange for sharing of ideas."
"…"
"Come on. Agree with me please, you will get to enjoy the springtime of youth in a Japanese high school. So, it's a win-win for both of us, right?"
"Have you been watching those weird cartoons again?" Kevin asked deadpanned.
"Hey, don't say my anime collection is weird."
"It is."
"Geh. Since when have you developed such a sharp tongue." Welt's face scrunched "anyway help me out this once."
"No." Kevin said and started to walk away.
"Wait, wait, wait. There is something else as well." Welt stopped him.
"?"
"PROMETHEUS has deduced that the 3rd one will happen in Nagazora."
At this Kevin's ears perked up. The A.I could predict the place which will be the epicentre of the Honkai eruption?
"How?"
"Well, I have created it with all of my knowledge as the 1st Herrscher. Furthermore, we both are developing an algorithm for finding the epicentre of Honkai eruptions using the past data and various parameters such as the distribution and variety of beasts, their activity, and the flow of Honkai energy in the world over and so on."
"And the algorithm has decided that this time the epicentre is in Nagazora?"
"Yes."
"What are the chances?"
"More than 76 per cent." Welt said in a serious tone.
"Are you sure about these results?"
"Well, this is the best estimate we can give you; the prediction model is not fully complete or accurate yet. It needs more eruption's data to learn."
"You sound like you want the eruptions to happen."
"it's not about wanting or not Kevin, they are going to happen sooner or later. The only thing we can do is fight the Herrschers that are born within it."
"Yeah." Kevin said while remembering his oath.
"So, what's your choice? If you don't want, I can always send someone else."
"…"
"Think about it, Kevin. This is not only your chance to have a normal life but also Seele's. Don't you think she deserves better than being in this base?"
"…" Kevin was silent. It was true that he had no expectations for himself, but Seele was a different matter.
After a long silence that seemed like an eternity, Kevin sighed.
"Fine, but I will do no shenanigans that you see in those weird cartoons."
"Fair enough. And don't call my animes weird."
"It is."
"Grr."
Kevin was making his way back after the meeting with Welt. As agreed, he will be enrolled in a prestigious private Academy in Nagazora as part of his cover called CHIBA ACADEMY. Apparently, this school is meant to cater to the children of influential families in the country, and as such had world-class facilities. This also meant that the entrance to the school was a very intensive process. You had to be either the son or daughter of an influential family or be a prodigy.
Welt considered getting Kevin into the school with the political power of the Moths and his personal connections. But Kevin didn't need it at all, being surrounded by intellectuals who have won multiple Nobel prizes meant that Kevin could unlock his true mental potential. The organization-wide I.Q test that was conducted by Welt made the fact more apparent:
Kevin was a Prodigy.
With an I.Q of about 180, he truly belonged to the top of the layer. At his results all of the people around him were proud;
Seele and Griseo were happy that their big brother was a Genius.
Ato and Himeko were proud to see that their little brother is a Genius.
Mobius was ecstatic. The man she held feelings for was a true genius and a warrior. He was perfect and was extremely loyal to the things he cared for as his interactions with Griseo and Seele showed.
He was every girl's dream.
But this also meant that his popularity increased as well. She already had that pink-haired bit- ahem girl flirting and hanging around him like moss all the time now, which grated on her nerves. And now she had to deal with multiple slu- ahem…ahem… females trying to throw themselves on him.
The man in the question was blissfully oblivious to this however which caused no short amount of headaches for her.
As Kevin made into the special room meant for the children in the base, he was tackled by two figures:
"Nii-Nii", "Onii-chan".
"Have you both been good?" Kevin asked both of them while rubbing their heads.
"Hmm." they both nodded.
"Thank you for looking after them in your spare time Dystopia." he said thanking the blonde-haired girl.
"Oh, don't worry Kevin. I love taking care of children; back in Vladivostok I and Ellie took care of the younger children in the orphanage whenever Sister Olga was out." Dystopia said. Kevin nodded in reply.
"Ne Ne Onii-chan what were you and Welt Ojii-san talking about?" Seele asked.
"Yeah, about that-"
"Don't forget to brush two times a day."
"…"
"Don't get into unnecessary fights."
"…"
"If something happens contact me at that instant"
"…"
"Are you even hearing me, Kevin?"
"Yes, mom." Kevin said in a plain voice.
"Now, Now Dr. Mobius he is not a child. He can take care of himself and Seele's with him, right?" Ato said.
"Hmmm. Seele will take care of Onii-chan." Seele said enthusiastically, going to a new place with her onii-chan and going to school again made her extremely happy and excited.
"Sigh… Fine. Just take care of yourself."
"Yes, Mobius-san."
"And… no being… a Casanova."
"?"
"That might be impossible Dr. Mobius." Ato laughed hearing that along with others present.
"Hmmm." Mobius pouted.
Kevin was not understanding this line of conversation. How did his undercover mission equate to him being another person? However, he decided to label it as Welt-san's and aniki's usual shenanigans. Mobius then hugged him and said:
"I'm going to miss you."
"It's just until graduation and then I will come back."
"You better be."
At this moment a girl with pink hair and blue eyes barged into the room
"Kevin~ I heard you were going to school. Are you trying to make many others fall for you as well, hmm? ~"
"No. I'm going on a mission undercover."
"Sigh… I knew it. you are too much of a blockhead to understand." Elysia sighed.
"He is going to do no such thing." Mobius bristled.
"Ara~ but Dr. Mobius, you understand what I am saying right~." she said in her sing-song voice. Mobius just huffed away, but internally she had to agree with this girl. Kevin was just too charming for his own good. His physical finesse along with his intelligence and handsome face made him look like a prince. She could only sigh inwardly as it seemed that this dense as a rock oaf was going to get many girls to fall for him despite her disapproval regardless.
"Anyway, give me a hug and kiss before you leave~" Elysia teased. At this Mobius' body tensed up. How dare this woman, she was even more dangerous than she thought. To her relief however, Kevin just swatted her away as usual.
"Mou~ just a hug then~." she then hugged him without any warning. Kevin could just stand there and let this happen. Aniki and Welt-san were laughing their asses off saying something along the lines of- 'Harem king'; while Mobius-san just pouted again angrily.
He seriously didn't understand women.
CHIBA PRIVATE ACADEMY (NAGAZORA - JAPAN) – 2020(Previous era) (One week later)
Feng Su thought that being a scholarship student would ease his and his family's burdens, but he was not prepared for the mental stress it brings. Being in a faraway country all alone as an international student brought about its own set of headaches. Maintaining excellence in different fields brought extra stress to him as he had to maintain his place in the top 10 per cent of the student population if he was to continue to get his scholarship. This was easier said than done in a sea of scions of rich families that had multiple private tutors to help out their child, while he had to work his ass off to study and get good grades in their trimester exams which were increasing in difficulty at an exponential pace.
Many others had their friends to help out in their weaker subjects in school. It was also a sore point for him as irony would have it the total number of friends he had now since he started school one year ago was: Zero. Sometimes he thought of throwing it all away and just returning to Shenzhou, but then he remembered why he came to such a far place. He wanted to become a doctor and help many people so that they would not die like his uncle due to diseases that could be treated but couldn't because of the unavailability of a doctor. Even though his aunt had five children to look after, she always saw him as her own son. When he said about his decision to study in a prestigious school in Japan, she was extremely worried and tried to persuade him to not go. She said that she could pay for him to study in a good high school in Beijing, but he refused. How could he take any more of her kindness when she worked herself to the bone for all of their sakes.
Thus with a heavy heart, he stood his decision. His aunt finally relented but not before making him promise to call her every night and to return home for summer breaks. She also wanted to pay the fees for the school but Su explained that he was going there as an international scholarship student. So here he was, getting day by day in this place that was far away from his home with no acquaintances, no friends, no one to talk to.
'Just two more years, then I can finally return home and become the doctor I've always wanted.' Su thought as he made his way to his class: 2-D. His seat was the one at the back one column from the window. He wanted the window seat but whatever.
As the homeroom started, Sensei came in and announced:
"Before we get started, we have a new student joining our class. They are from Europe so they might be unfamiliar with our country's customs; so, help them out wherever you can."
At this murmurs broke out in the class. The boys were talking about things like:
"Is it a girl?"
"If it, is I hope she is cute."
"Damm. From Europe, she must be very pretty."
However, the girl's side of the class was also gossiping:
"Is it a boy?"
"I bet he is handsome. They say everyone from Europe looks like a prince."
"Seriously. Kyaa."
Su didn't mind these conversations, but the new student piqued his curiosity. An international student just like him huh? What are the odds? If he was a guy maybe he could be trying to be their friend. After all, they are in the same boat here. Sensei quietened the class before murmurs could get out of hand:
"All right, enough. You may come in." he motioned for the new student to come in.
The moment the new student entered; the female population of the class collectively squealed:
"KYAAAA."
Standing before them with an impressive height and a toned body was a boy with silver-white hair and sky-blue eyes. He had a face and figure that many boys would kill for. He held his head high and straight, and his gaze was even and cold. Su assumed he saw something in his eyes for a fraction before it disappeared. It was…. Pain and Loneliness? But how could that be? He was not able to dwell on it for long as sensei said:
"How about you introduce yourself to them?"
The new student nodded and went to the blackboard and with perfect handwriting wrote in impeccable Japanese that shocked even the sensei:
KEVIN KASLANA.
"My name is Kevin Kaslana. I like Reading and Basketball. Nice to meet you all." the new student introduced himself in fluent Japanese.
At this the entire class started murmuring again:
"My God, he knows our language so fluently."
"He is such a prince, Kyaa."
"Is he single?"
"No way. But if he is then- Kyaaaaa."
"Damm good-looking bastard."
"How are we supposed to compete against that?"
"I look ugly in front of him …'sob'."
Sensei quietened the class again:
"All right, enough. Kevin-kun you can sit on the seat in the back by the window."
The boy now introduced as Kevin made his way to his allotted seat beside Su. As he sat down Su introduced himself:
"Hey there. My name is Feng Su, I'm an international student like you. Hope we can get along." he then put his hand forward.
Kevin took his hand and shook it, and nodded. As the class started nearly all of the girls were stealing glances at their newest addition, but the boy himself spared no glance back. This caused many girls to sigh in heartbreak and guys to burn in jealousy.
Maybe the next two years were not going to be boring at all, Su thought.
This guy was too perfect, Su decided. It was almost surreal how perfect this guy was. They were having a basketball match with the other class and they are dominating it with Kevin in their team. Five out of the seven baskets in their favour are from Kevin alone and the two remaining two had his crucial help as well. On the other hand, the rival team has only two baskets till now.
"Whoa, D class scored another basket."
"That transfer student is insane. From where did he get those moves."
"He is good at both offense and defense? That's totally crazy."
"Kyaaa. Look at me Oujii-sama."
"No. No. Look at me."
At the commotion, Kevin glanced at the side to see the girls cheering for him for some reason.
"?" Kevin was puzzled, this was totally different from Moths.
"Kyaaa. He looked at me. I'm gonna faint." One of the girls squealed before mimicking fainting.
"No faaair." Another girl complained.
Kevin was totally perplexed by their actions; did they find him that monstrous. It seemed wherever he went things were the same after all. He decided to focus on the game and proceeded to score another basket followed by more squealing by the girls.
…
His class won the game by a staggering twenty-point lead. As he was undressing in the shower booth, the student who was sitting near him Su if his memory served correctly came to him.
"Congratulations on being the star of the game earlier." Su said while patting Kevin's shoulder.
"It was not me alone." Kevin replied.
"Well, you got nearly ten baskets. I don't know how much more you can get bigger than that."
"…"
"Okay. Let's take a shower fast, the next period is math, and Takewada-sensei doesn't like people who are late."
Kevin nodded as he took off his gym clothes.
"Whoa man, you are ripped. But what about these scars?" Su said pointing out the scars he got while on missions.
"…" he just gazed at him coldly.
"Sorry, my bad." Su said shrinking under his gaze "I won't pry, so forgive me."
Kevin said nothing and entered the shower booth. Sensing his silence as him letting go of the matter, Su entered the booth next to Kevin and started chatting:
"So, where are you from? I mean which country?"
"Germany."
"Germany? Must be cold all the time huh. Well, I'm from Shenzhou city in China."
"Hmm." Kevin nodded.
So, as they showered, Su kept making small talks with Kevin giving monotone answers.
After school
As Kevin made his way to the shoe lockers, Su came up to him and said:
"So where do you live around here Kevin?"
"In the Suncrest apartments on the third street."
"Whoa, that's close to where I live. Think I can drop by sometimes?"
"Hmm. My sister loves meeting new people."
"You have a sister?"
"Yeah, she is three years younger than me. But is able to do housework much better than me." Kevin said with a hint of despondency. At this Su could only laugh. He said while laughing:
"Oh, so you are that kind of guy." which was replied by a glare from Kevin.
"Okay, okay my bad. How about I treat you to Ramen in this stand I found not too far from the school."
"Ramen?"
"Yeah, it's a kind of Japanese noodle in a soup. You are going to love it, trust me."
Kevin thought about it. Seele did say to make some friends in school and thus had prohibited him from returning before 7.00 pm, as such he had a lot of time to kill. Su was also a guy that meant good was what he deduced from his interactions with the guy. Thus, he decided to trust Su's judgement and try out this so-called Ramen.
"Fine. Lead the way."
"Sweet. We will have karaoke after that what do you say?"
"It's fine. I have time to spare."
"Okay, let's go." Su said dragging him to the ramen stand.
As they were passing the front yard, a strand of violet flickered in Kevin's vision. Looking front he saw a beautiful girl wearing glasses and carrying thick books. Her hair flowed in the wind obstructing her face, but from what he could see she really had a beautiful face.
In another world, another life; this meeting would have led his heart to skip a beat. He would have made an excuse to Su and chased after that girl. In that world where he was a happy and carefree boy, this meeting would have turned into him meeting the love of his life, his other half, his soulmate.
But this was not that world. He was not a carefree boy. He was a soldier of the Moths whose only goal in life was to purge the Honkai. His heart had been burdened enough by the wishes of his dead comrades and his promise to his brother in everything but blood. The only thing that remained now in that frozen heart was the desire to protect those close to him, his comrades, his family and to keep his oath as a warrior bold. He will fight till the last moment until it was his time to turn to dust and scatter in the fields where his fallen brothers lay.
As such, he did not even register the girl and went straight ahead passing by her. As they passed by each other, the girl looked back feeling an inexplicable ache in her chest as if she just lost something irreplaceable to her. Something then fell from her eyes, wiping it she saw that they were tears
"Huh… Why?" the girl asked herself but couldn't find an answer. She looked up hoping to find the boy, but he was long gone. Sakura petals fell at the place where they crossed each other, perhaps signalling the end of a blissful yet tragic romance that now would never be.
Kiyome Mei for the first time in her life felt a sense of loss that would never go away no matter how many days pass.
As for Kevin, he went forward passing through the school gates leaving that untold story behind. He went forward to write his own destiny. A Warrior's destiny.
"I'm back Seele."
"Welcome home Onii-chan. How was your first day at the school?"
"It was fine. I made a friend."
"Really? What is their name."
"His name is Su, and he is from China."
"Wow, I'm so happy for you. Did you invite him to come to our home sometime?"
"He invited himself. He said he will come this Sunday."
"Yay. Seele will prepare a feast then that day. Tonight, we are having fish stew. I was worried at first that it will taste strange given the fishes are different here, but it turned out good."
"Thank you, Seele. I would never think of cooking if I was alone."
"Huhu, That is what Seele's here for Onii-chan. Seele knows that you are hopeless in these things. So don't worry and leave all these things to Seele." Seele puffed her chest proudly.
"Yeah, I'm grateful for that." Kevin said while patting her head.
"Hehe. Okay, go take a shower while Seele set the table."
"Let me help you."
"No. No. Go to the shower. You stink."
"Do I?"
"Yes, so go quickly. Seele is getting hungry."
"Fine, fine. Don't push." Kevin said as he made his way to the bathroom. As he entered the shower and turned on the tap, hot water came pouring down relaxing his muscles. Taking a quick shower and then wiping his body dry and changing into his house clothes he sat down at the table for dinner.
After a short prayer, courtesy of Seele they began eating. As they ate Kevin said something that was on his mind.
"Hey Seele, do you by any chance know how to make Ramen?"
"Hmm? What is that Onii-chan?"
"It's a type of Japanese noodle that is put in a broth. I ate one today in a stand that Su found earlier."
"Did you like it?"
"It was not bad."
"Then Seele will learn how to make it, so you can enjoy it at home."
"You don't have to."
"No. Seele has decided." she said in a final tone. Her Onii-chan liked very few things. He was always fighting those monsters and getting hurt. Furthermore, he couldn't feel anyone's touch due to some injury he got during fighting before he met her. So, it was very rare for him to like something.
Thus, if he showed interest in something, Seele would make sure to incorporate it into their daily life. Like this Ramen for example. She would try her best to learn to make it so that her Onii-chan could enjoy it. It was the least she could do for the person who saved her and gave her another chance to have her family. She would be happy as long as her beloved Onii-chan is content.
As the dinner went on they talked about some other mundane things before getting up, washing and drying the dishes, and then retiring for the night.
…
As Kevin lay in his bed after finishing his homework which was leagues below what Welt-san would give him, he closed the lights and laid on the bed thinking over the happenings of today. It felt like a totally different life than what he had until now. He could not compare it to his life as a soldier of the Moths, as it felt like two different persons were living it.
He thought, would life be like this if he was a normal boy instead of one of the Moths' best fighters: THE GODSLAYER. He still hated that name but now accepted it all the same, as it was stuck to him now. He wondered how he would be if he was just a normal boy with normal worries, would he be happier? More at peace? Kevin sighed as decided that it was useless to think about what-ifs. He is what he is. He just had to keep his promise and his oath. And when his time comes, maybe he will be content and finally find peace.
Thinking such thoughts, he drifted off to sleep.
Five months later
"Fen Su, Feng Su, Feng Su….Ah There." Su exclaimed as he found his name on the result list for the first-term examinations for the second year.
"15th place, not too shabby." he said to himself, he has maintained his place at the top 10 per cent of the entire second year. His scholarship was safe for another term at the least.
After making sure that his place is safe in the school, he started to search for his friend's name in the result list. He started seeing in ranks higher than his as he Knew Kevin's intelligence when they studied together. He was a prodigy, there was no other way to explain it. He effortlessly solved five years' worth of the previous year's question paper in two hours. He then proceeded to tutor Su in his weak subjects. Except for Japanese history, all of his answers to all the questions in their study session were absolutely correct.
It was also not like that Kevin studied like crazy. Whatever he read, it was etched into his mind the man said himself. It was crazy how he had the I.Q to understand everything at once, Su felt a little jealous of his intelligence, to be honest, but he was more relieved to have such an academically gifted friend. His sessions with him were the reason that he was able to climb up 5 ranks this time. As he was searching for Kevin's name, there was some sort of commotion in the bulletin where the toppers of each year's names were posted.
"What? No way."
"He beat her?"
"Who the hell is this guy? He is perfect in sports and studies."
"Kyaa Oujii-sama has shown us his academic strength as well."
"Oh my god. He is so perfect. It's like a dream."
"He is so handsome, athletic and a genius."
"I'm going to confess to him today after school."
"No. I'm going to."
"No, me."
A group of girls then started to fight among themselves. Su paid them no heed and made his way to the bulletin and saw the names of the toppers. What he saw made his jaw drop.
2nd Kiyome Mei - 495 pts
And in the first place;
1st Kevin Kaslana - 498 pts
The only thing Su could say to that was:
"Holy shit."
…
Kiyome Mei has never felt so humiliated in her entire life. She was the one who studied the most in this entire school. While everyone enjoyed themselves outside, she had her nose in the books. She wanted to be a great scientist like her Otou-san and for that, she worked tirelessly. Even if she didn't have an overinflated ego for her academic knowledge, she still held pride in it. Pride that was ruthlessly shattered today by a transfer student.
She scrunched the paper having her result in her hand and made her way through the hallways. The 2 written with black ink mocked her, said that she was nothing special, that she was not worthy to be a scientist. And this dejected her to no end. As she made her way through the school courtyard to the library, she saw the boy who had stolen her pride in just five months sitting with his eyes back to a tree and had his eyes closed.
Did he just spend his days like this? Then how is he able to get more than her. From what she heard about him, he was gifted physically and now academically. One such perfect would be having so many people surrounding him, right? But in his case, he only talked properly to one guy who sat next to him. He didn't entertain and flirted with any girls either. Did he think that he was so perfect that it was not worth the time to talk to others? Thinking such things just angered her more.
Mei was making up irrational thoughts without any base, but when you get slapped in the face as hard as her you tend to become irrational. Finally unable to take it anymore she approached the boy and tried to start the conversation:
"Ummm…. Sono…. Eto…" she tried to greet him but her social anxiety flared up at that moment. She cursed herself for being so socially awkward now.
"Ano, listen to me please Kevin-kun." she finally got enough courage to voice out a greeting though it sounded more like a threat.
The boy opened his eyes, cold sky-blue eyes met electric-purple ones. After some time the boy asked:
"How do you know my name?"
At this Mei became flustered again, damm her social anxiety.
"Right…. that is….. the thing is…."
"Hmm?"
"I got second place in the term exams."
"And?" he urged her to go on.
"Y-you got the first place."
"So?" he was puzzled.
"So? SO? Do you know how long I had held that spot? Do you know how hard I worked for it? And now it's gone all because of you." Mei started sniffing.
Kevin was totally puzzled. This girl here had roused him from his meditation only to tell him that he scored more than her and when he indicated that he was not interested, she started crying? What is wrong with her?
"Well, calm down first and explain to me why are you yelling at my face?"
At this Mei calmed down quickly. She realized that she was creating a scene and this helped her to get some of her rationality back. She took deep breaths and continued:
"I want to become a great scientist like my Otou-san. To do that I need the special recommendation from the school which is only given to the student who is at the top of the academic of their year, and now you have ruined it."
Kevin was totally puzzled. This girl was saying that he ruined her chances to become a scientist just because he scored more than her once? She had her head in the clouds, he deduced. Thus, he decided to teach her a lesson in humility.
"Okay, so you say that if I score less than you, you will get that recommendation."
"Yes." she nodded.
"Why would I?"
"Eh?" the girl was shocked.
"I said why would I? I got the score because I took the tests seriously and got awarded for it. Now you are saying me to give it up just because you want some recommendation and are not willing to work hard for it?"
"Wha-"
"Let me ask you a question. Why do you want to become a scientist?"
At this, the girl tried to answer but no sound came out of her throat.
"So, you want to become one just because. What a joke. In the place where I come from, scientists and researchers are crucial jobs that could decide a person's life and death."
The girl was stunned.
"They are required to make decisions that will affect hundreds of lives. People trust their judgement and get killed when they are wrong. So do you have the same resolve to send people to their deaths if your predictions are off?"
The girl remained quiet.
"Do you have the strength to bear their resentment when they die and curse your name? Do you have the strength to wake up every morning to see yourself in the mirror and realize that hundreds died because of you? Do you have the resolve to push yourself despite your failures to continue so that others could be safe? Do you?"
Kevin had come extremely close to the girl. He could see her shrink under her ice-cold gaze, but he continued on.
"The scientists I know are heroes. They give everything up to help progress humankind. They decide to bear the pain and responsibilities so the deaths because of their failures are not in vain. And you are trying to spit on their resolve? How dare you, Girl?" he said in such a cold voice that caused Mei's heart to leap in her throat.
He despised this girl, Kevin decided. She was nothing like Welt-san, Mobius-san, Dr. Tesla, Dr. Einstein and others who worked in Moths.
"All I see here is just a complaining little girl who is whining just because she got taught that the world doesn't revolve around her." he said and stepped away. However, Mei was still in fear after the earlier display of his displeasure.
Kevin saw that there were tears gathering in the corner of her eyes. He felt a little bad treating her like this. She was a normal girl who didn't know the ugliness of this world after all. But he didn't regret one bit of what he said, she needed to learn to work for something bigger than herself.
"If you still want the top spot, then you can try your best. But be warned that the next time you whine like this, there will be consequences." Kevin said as he started to leave.
"Ask yourself why do you want to be what you want to be. Because until you find your resolve, you will get nowhere." he said as he left the courtyard.
Mei stood there for some time before slumping down and letting her tears fall. She realized that whatever this guy has said is the bitter truth. She was just having her head in the clouds because she was at the top of the academics in her year. He had just shattered her excess pride and ego and slapped her with reality. She finally realized how selfish she had been thinking that she was special. As she sobbed away, she finally found her sparks of resolve.
She decided that she will find her path and promised herself that she will prove him wrong in the next exams.
A few days later
The house was a mix of western architecture with traditional aesthetics, Kevin noted. Today he had come to the address given to him by Welt-san. He had sent him a top-secret mail via the Moth's agents to take to Dr. Ryoma. When Kevin asked Welt-san what it was, he gave some vague answers that didn't make much sense. Welt-san clearly wanted this to keep a secret even from him so he decided to not pry further. If it was something that truly needed to be kept a secret then there must be a good reason for it. Kevin trusted Welt-san that much.
He had to introduce himself to the man, give him the package and tell him that he will get his reply after one week. Sounds easy enough. Thinking it would not make too much time, he rang the doorbell.
"Yes, yes who is it?" a man's voice came from inside. As the door opened, he was met with a familiar shade of purple that he quite couldn't place where he had seen. The man who was clearly in his late thirties was a little surprised to see a young man at his doorstep.
"Are you Mr. Kiyome Ryoma?"
"Yes."
"Good morning, Dr. Ryoma, I was sent by Dr. Welt Yang with a package for you."
"Oh, so you are the young man Joachim said about. Come inside, let's have some talk."
"Oh, no sir. I just came here to deliver this package to you and to say that I will come next week to hear your answer." Kevin politely denied it.
"Oh, hush. Joachim said you will try to deny hospitality like this. Come in, I insist." Dr. Ryoma insisted.
"Pardon my intrusion then." Kevin relented and entered the house. The inside of the house looked purely ornamental with bamboo mat floors, low tables, screens and sliding doors. As Kevin made himself comfortable Dr. Ryoma asked the first question:
"What is your name son?"
"Kevin Kaslana, sir."
"Kevin huh? My daughter said that someone of the same name was in her class. Do you attend Chiba academy by any chance?"
"Yes sir."
"That's why. I believe my daughter is in the same class as yours then." Dr. Ryoma said.
Funny, Dr. Ryoma's daughter studied in the same class as him. He wondered who she was and if he ever interacted with her.
"She also has said that it was you who helped her to get rid of her ego, and she is quite thankful for it. You really did make quite an impression on her." the man before him laughed.
What?
"Oh, speak of her. Mei come here, the boy you talked about is here. He is the one whom I talked about, the protégé of Dr. Welt"
"O-Otou-san." said a very familiar voice, and when he turned his head, he came face-to-face with a very familiar face. A face he berated not too long ago.
Sky-blue met electric-purple again.
Kevin sighed inwardly. Why does he always end up in these kinds of situations?
To be continued….
Hello everyone, welcome back to 'A Warriors Destiny'.
So here we are, the first chapter of the Nagazora arc. Some main characters like SU and Dr. MEI are introduced. As you might have noticed this is not the Mei who Kevin is going to fall in love with but our good old Raiden Mei. As I have already stated, romance is a very secondary thing in this fic as this is not the Kevin that we know. Anyway, in the next chapter, there will be some big discussions as well as we may meet a certain rich singer mommy.
As always if you like the story please leave a follow, favourite, and/or review.
Thank you for reading, until next time.
