Mission and a Night encounter
A few hours later
Two persons were sitting in the children's swing in a neighbourhood park. They had been sitting there for quite some time now with neither of them speaking a word. One of the persons was a boy of sixteen years of age with a lean but built body, silver-white hair and sky-blue eyes. The other was a girl of the same age with dark purple almost black hair and electric-purple eyes.
They both had been sitting after Dr. Ryoma had suggested they talk to resolve any misunderstandings between them. However, both of them had been sitting from the time they arrived here in silence. Kevin wanted to initiate the conversation but was patient as he sensed that the girl in front of him wanted to get something off her chest.
"My mother passed away when I was barely two years old. They say it was an accident, a car lost control and ran her over. But the reality was that the driver was drunk." the girl, Mei finally started speaking.
"…" Kevin kept quiet, he respected her courage to speak and just listened to her.
"My father was heartbroken, if only there was some kind of device that would automatically detect a person's intoxication and prevent him to drive the car. He went into the field of applied A.I to create such a thing. And finally, he succeeded. The first model of bionic lock that you see in vehicles today was made by him." She continued
All this while Kevin listened to her reasons for becoming a scientist. Her father then went into applied Quantum physics and combined his knowledge of applied A.I to create a special breed of which are able to perform calculations more complex than any human being. Kevin wondered if this was the 'framework' that Welt-san mentioned that helped him create PROMETHEUS.
"And then he became my role model. I wanted to be like him, to help people. But I guess along the way I forgot why I wanted to become one in the first place."
"And why is that?" Kevin opened his mouth for the first time.
At his question, Mei looked at him with firm resolution in her eyes that it was difficult to imagine her being the same girl who was whining just a few days ago. With those eyes that held resolve she said:
"I don't want to see others sad. If I can make others happy through science then I will do it."
Kevin returned her gaze evenly and said:
"What you say is not physically possible. Didn't you hear what I said earlier? As a scientist, you will have to make hard choices."
"Yes, I heard it very clearly. But I will not stop until the only choices I have are the ones that make everyone happy."
"Is that so?"
"Yes. It may sound like a naïve dream of a sheltered girl to you. But I will not stop until it becomes a reality." she said with a hint of fire in her eyes.
"Thank you Kevin-kun. You helped me remember again the main reason why I wanted to become a scientist after all." Mei said while getting up and bowing her head perfectly parallel to the ground to him.
"I didn't do anything." Kevin said dismissing her gratitude. At this, she giggled and said:
"You really are kind Kevin-kun."
"We don't even know each other."
"Perhaps, but I can say this thing with certainty." she then dusted her skirt and smiled:
"With that out of the way. I will not lose next time Kevin-kun." she said with confidence.
"I look forward to it." Kevin said while getting up himself and dusting his pants.
"Hmm. Just look, I will get the highest score." she smiled a genuine smile which Kevin found beautiful. She finally got over her pride and was willing to work hard and be sincere with her dreams now.
'Yes, she will be alright now.' Kevin thought as they made their way back.
At the same time
"So, this is your answer to fight the Honkai, huh Joachim?"
"Yes, Ryoma. Although their execution is not for a long time, I still want to hear your opinion."
"It's difficult to say anything at this stage. First of all, we don't have enough experimentation and raw materials to make these two a reality. Secondly, would anyone offer themselves up for what is basically a guinea-pig position?"
"I agree with you. But to answer your concerns, we will get more raw materials with more Herrschers defeated, and well as for finding a suitable subject; I have someone in mind."
"Who?"
"You know who." Welt said knowingly
At this Ryoma's eyes widened a little.
"You can't be serious, he's just a boy." Ryoma said incredulously.
"A boy with high combat experience as well as the experience of fighting a Herrscher first-hand. Furthermore, he will fight more of them whether this becomes a success or not."
"But if something goes wrong-"
"That's why I need your help, Ryoma. We have to work out the fine details on how to implement the two things."
"Sigh… You really are serious about this, Joachim?"
"The fight against the Honkai is going to become bloodier and more desperate, Ryoma. We will be getting desperate soon, and desperate times call for desperate measures. This is our responsibility as scientists."
"Okay, I understand your reasoning. Just… Give me one week, you will have my answer by then."
"I expected nothing less than you, that's why I have said him to return to you to hear your answer in one week."
"Joachim, Mei has started to have a soft spot for the boy. If he suffers because of these decisions, I won't forgive you."
"Believe me Ryoma, the one who wants him to suffer the least is me. I see him as a younger brother too you know? Furthermore, a certain doctor will dissect me alive if I make him sad."
"Her too? How did that happen?" Ryoma was baffled.
"What can I say. He's got that natural charisma to make girls draw and fawn over him."
"Hahaha." Ryoma laughed over the phone. Then he continued "anyway, you will have my answer by the next week."
"Then I will wait for a favourable one. I'm hanging up."
"Yeah, goodbye Joachim."
"Goodbye." And the person on the other side hung up. Ryoma then glanced at the two files that were in the package that the boy: Kevin brought for him. The two files contained outlines for two top-secret projects that will change the nature of Honkai warfare in the near future.
As Ryoma looked over the files, he couldn't but have doubts about whether this will succeed or not. As he kept the files in the hidden vault in his study, he thought:
'I hope this is really worth it, Joachim.'
In the vault with red ink, the names of the two projects were written along with the top-secret on the top.
PROJECT: GODKEY.
PROJECT: MANTIS.
A few months later
Kevin was trying to meditate, keyword being 'trying' as he was not having much success at it. The reason being:
"Really Su-kun, you want to do masters in the general physician category."
"Yeah. My hometown doesn't have a good number of doctors, and furthermore, it will be financially beneficial for my family."
"Wow, that's really noble. You sound like a hero from those films that I saw as a child."
"Haha, but really, it's nothing compared to your dream Mei-chan. Helping all of humankind through science. Now that's what I call a noble goal."
"I'm also doing it partially to become popular, hehe."
"Nothing's wrong with it Mei-chan. Everyone can enjoy the little benefits of being a great professional. Even I want to become a doctor partially so a cute girl can fall in love with me."
"giggle… I never thought you to be the type to fret over these things. After all, you act all aloof in the classes."
"That's not true. I heard that girls like those types of guys, that's why I act like that. People like me have to put in the effort to get girls to notice me, unlike a certain someone I could name."
"Sigh… right? To think one would be aware of their popularity after getting so many confession letters."
"He just takes them out and put them in the trash, not bothering to even read them. The girls who see their letters get thrown away then run away in tears. Many of them have even approached me asking me things like how to win over his heart, what classes does he take, where does he eat at lunchtime, what is his favourite food, what his schedule is etc. Do I look like his P.A?"
"That's terrible."
"And that's not the end of it. the girls even after getting such treatment still pine over him. This causes no small amount of the male population to become jealous. I'm sure literally every male in our class hates this guy's guts but is afraid to say it to his face."
"Now, now Su nii-chan. Onii-chan is not that heartless."
"That's the problem Seele-chan. This guy does that kind of thing and then helps those girls with little things out of nowhere. Just the day before yesterday when Saeki-san got hurt during P.E, this guy carried her all the way to the infirmary while carrying her in a princess carry."
"haha… sigh…."
"Hooo. Is that so?"
"Your jealousy is showing Mei-chan."
"W-what, I'm not j-jealous."
"Sure, you are not."
"Hmmmmm."
Finally having enough Kevin opened his eyes and said in his usual tone:
"What are you guys doing here again?"
At this, both Su and Mei looked up at him. Then they both looked at each other and laughed.
"What is so funny?"
"Oh, nothing at all. We just thought you were going to go full Buddha mode until the end."
At this Kevin could only give him a blank look which caused him to chuckle again. After calming down he said:
"Yeah, so the reason I came here is this. Ta-da." he pulled out four tickets from his pockets. They were to an opera of some kind Kevin noted.
"What's this?"
"You wouldn't believe this. After standing in the line for four hours, I finally got the tickets for the live performance of the upcoming singing icon: EDEN." Su said while puffing out his chest.
"Waaa." "Really?" the girls were obviously happy and excited. On the other hand, Kevin was:
"Who?"
At this, all three of them went silent. Su then spoke up:
"You don't know who she is?"
"Should I?"
"Obviously, you stud." Su screamed, "how can you not know who Eden is?"
Kevin just shrugged.
"Onii-chan, Eden-san is that famous opera singer, she was also nominated for ga-gar-garm-"
"Grammy awards." Mei helped.
"Yeah that. She is one of the most famous singers in the MU continent. Seele loves her voice, it's so pretty."
Kevin remained silent to show his ignorance on the matter. Truthfully, he could not give a single care about this person. Music and such are not necessary to fight Honkai and thus unnecessary for him. For him, he would rather spend time training to hone his skills rather than listen to some opera.
Seeing his disinterest in the matter, Su said:
"This is the perfect chance then. Come with us to the concert, then you will know how amazing she is."
"No. I have work that day"
"Ehh? Can't you do it some other day?" Su whined.
"No that is more important. However, you guys can take Seele with you to the concert."
"Onii-chan it's all right."
"You want to go to the concert, right?"
Seele nodded.
"Then you can go. And spend the night with Mei nee-chan in her home as it will be extremely late when I return home."
"Eh? But what about dinner?" Seele asked worriedly.
"I will eat at the place where I'm going. So don't worry about me and go enjoy." Kevin said while patting her head.
"Kevin-kun, you really are not coming?" Mei asked dejectedly. She wanted to spend some time with him after the concert, but it seemed that will not happen.
"As I have said I have work that day. So, I will not be able to join you, I'm sorry." Kevin apologized.
"Okay, I understand. But we will hang out the next weekend, promise me." Mei said with a serious face.
"Promise." Kevin promised.
At this Mei blushed a little and said "Then I will hold on to that promise."
"Hoho. Something is going on between you two." Su teased. At this Mei blushed deeper.
"?" Kevin gave him a questioned look "You are coming with us along with Seele in the hangout, right?"
At his question, the atmosphere in the room cooled down instantly.
"Why did I expect more from you? You have your work cut out for you Mei-chan." Su said shaking his head disapprovingly.
"Tell me about it."
"Anyway, dinner's ready. So, let's all eat." Seele tried to clear the air.
"Oh, it's that time already? Then I will return home now." Mei said getting up.
"Eat dinner with us, then I will drop you at your house." Kevin said.
"Oh no I possibly couldn't-" Mei tried to refuse.
"I insist." Kevin pressed.
"Okay, if you say so." Mei relented. As they sat down to eat, she whispered to him "Thank you."
"Anytime Mei." he said sincerely which caused her to blush again.
"Idiot."
"?"
On the day of the concert
"Make sure to eat all of your meals, okay? And don't worry about dirtying the house, Seele will clean it once she returns."
"I get it. just go and enjoy yourself, Seele." Kevin said while rubbing her head gently.
"Take care of yourself okay, Onii-chan." Seele said while hugging him.
Kevin hummed in agreement. Then turning to Su and Mei he said:
"Take care of her both of you."
"Tch, if you are that worried about her, then come with us to the concert." Su clicked his tongue.
"Now, now don't say that Su-kun. Don't worry Kevin-kun she is our little sister as well; she will be safe with us. Take care of yourself in return."
"Hmm." Kevin replied.
"Okay, it's getting late. Let's go Mei-chan, Seele-chan." Su reminded them.
"Okay. Bye-bye Onii-chan, best of luck with your work." Seele and the others waved him goodbye as they got into the cab that Su called for them. Kevin waved them back as the cab drove away and vanished down the street.
"Okay, time to get ready as well." Kevin said to himself as he went to prepare himself for where he was going today.
…
The building was located quite some way outside the city of Nagazora. It took nearly two hours by the commuter train to reach the place. As Kevin entered the building which was a hidden front for the Moths base in the area, he was greeted by the soldiers present there.
"Major Kevin."
"At ease. Show me the reports."
"Sir." the soldier said as he led him inside the building. Once he was in the local command centre of the base a holographic map of eastern Japan came into view.
"We detected a spike in Honkai readings in the Fukushima prefecture, more accurately near the village of Kawauchi. There are local reports of people going missing and demonic shadows being spotted at secluded places."
"Hmm."
"We most likely it to be the work of Honkai beasts, furthermore by the number of cases that have happened in the last few months, we can safely deduce that there are quite a few beasts, probably an Emperor-class as well."
"I understand. Squads 1 through 5 gear up and follow me to the village. We will deal with the beasts. The rest of you be on standby on the base. And report this to the HQ while we are gone." Kevin gave his orders.
"Sir." The soldiers saluted and scattered to prepare for the upcoming mission.
As Kevin made it to his locker, he thought back on how his life was totally different from the one he has in Nagazora. It was almost like two different lives.
'Yes, that's right. That is a dream that will end soon, this is the reality that will never go away.'
He got ready with his padded anti-Honkai clothes, his combat coat, combat boots, suspenders to keep APOLLO and the sword holder to hold Surtr. Finally, he equipped his trusted partners. The special anti-Honkai pistols APOLLO and the Honkai-powered great sword: GODSLAYER: SURTR.
Once he finished preparing, he saw his reflection in the big mirror in the locker room. He was no longer a student of Chiba academy; he was now a soldier of the Moths. Switching his mindset to that of a soldier he made his way out of the locker room. Seeing that people were present in the main hall he asked:
"Is everyone ready?"
"Sir." everyone shouted in unison.
"Then let's go." he said while making his way to the transport crafts in the hanger. It was time to purge the Honkai and to keep his oath.
OUTSKIRTS OF KAWAUCHI (FUKUSHIMA PREFECTURE - JAPAN) – 2020(Previous era) (a few hours later)
"Okay, split up as I have explained. Do not engage anything bigger than Templar-class alone and if you encounter an Emperor, call for your squad and engage it with the entire squad present." Kevin ordered.
"Sir." everyone acknowledged.
"All right move." The soldiers split up with Kevin going solo as usual. The men however were not concerned. Their Major was one of the strongest fighters of the Moths, THE GODSLAYER. He had defeated a Herrscher on his own, so there was no way he was going to go down by some regular Honkai beasts.
As he scanned around, he heard sounds and soon Honkai beasts surrounded him. They were a mix of lower-tier Seraphs, Knights and a few Chariots. Kevin took out one of the APOLLO and shot the head off one Knight-class in one motion. Seeing this the other beasts charged in on him. Kevin readied his stance and said "Die." as he charged into a chariot, unsheathing Surtr and stabbing it through the Chariot's torso killing it.
…
The mission was coming to a swift and smooth closure. They have nearly dealt with all the beasts in the general area. The only thing left was to find the Emperor-class beast that was the cause of the human disappearance and property damage in the area. As he was figuring out where to search the beast, he heard a loud growl. Then he heard rapid and loud footsteps and something flew and landed in front of him kicking up dust. Once the dust settled, he saw what it was.
It was a huge beast with fox-like features and long rabbit-like ears. It was growling at him as if telling him that it was going to kill him for trespassing on its territory. This was definitely the Emperor class they were trying to find. Kevin just pointed Surtr at him and said:
"Die. Foul creature."
He Charged and slashed Surtr towards the Beast's leg, but the beast jumped back quickly letting the blade miss its mark and cut through the air. Kevin quickly fired the APOLLO in his other hand stunning the beast. Then he slashed with Surtr again with flames coming out of it, this time the beast was not able to dodge properly and was struck by it.
The beast howled in pain as it felt its body being cut and then being burned by Surtr's flames. Then it did something different. It jumped up, Kevin's eyes following. However, instead of landing, it twisted its body to fall on Kevin instead. As Kevin put his hand holding APOLLO forward to shoot the beast it saw its chance. It put its tail forward and started spinning causing Kevin to become confused as to where to shoot. The moment it reached Kevin's arm it suddenly put its mouth forward, grabbed his hand, and bit hard. Kevin heard a small cracking sound but felt nothing as usual. Thankfully due to armour plating in his clothes, his arm didn't get completely chewed off, but it was fractured.
Kevin however didn't give it any thought. In its attempt to chew off his arm, the beast had left itself wide open. As Kevin with inhuman strength yanked his arm from its mouth, the beast fell into a disadvantageous position on its back. But before it could recover, Kevin fired the APOLLO again on its legs. This time the bullets struck home, wounding the beast's legs and burning it the same. The beast couldn't think properly due to extreme pain and burning and gave Kevin the time to finish this.
"It's over." he said while calling out the name of one of his attacks.
"Clarent Crimson revenge."
Deep crimson flames emerged from Surtr's blades and engulfed the Honkai beast as he slashed toward it. Even after separating the blade, the flames stuck to the beast burning it completely. These flames will continue to burn the object it's attached to as long as Honkai energy is present. It feeds off the Honkai energy of the target making it very effective against these kinds of monsters. The beast kept wailing in pain as it continued to burn to death. After the life of the beast had been extinguished completely, the flames died down.
Kevin observed the beast with caution, lest it move again. After making sure that it was dead for good, he released his breath and sheathed the APOLLO and Surtr. After sheathing them, he went over to the radio strapped to his shoulder and pressed the talk button.
"Attention to all squads. This is Major Kevin speaking. I have taken care of the Emperor; group back to the rendezvous point. I repeat, the Emperor has been taken care of; group back to the rendezvous point."
"Sir." all the squad leaders acknowledged.
Once he made his way back to the rendezvous point, he saw the other squad members already present there and talking amongst themselves.
"Sir." one of the soldiers saw him and saluted followed by everyone else.
"Report."
"Squad 1 has taken care of 10 templars, 15 chariots and 27 Seraphs."
"Squad 2 has dealt with 10 chariots, 17 knights and 24 Seraphs."
"Squad 3 has dealt with 15 templars and 12 knights."
"Squad 4 has taken care of 5 templars, 20 chariots and 21 knights."
"Squad 5 has subjugated 10 templars, 10 chariots and 12 knights."
"I understand. It seems with the Emperor that I killed, we have completed our mission. Will, radio back to the base informing them of the success of the mission and request for the transport crafts back to base." Kevin ordered.
"Sir." the soldier named Will saluted and excused himself to contact the base.
In the meanwhile, Kevin sat on a big rock and pulled off his left sleeve back. Shattered plating fell off, being destroyed by the Emperor's bite. He looked over his arm, there were two deep teeth marks and the way his arm was swollen it was most likely broken. Great, now Seele, Su and Mei are going to scold him endlessly.
"Sir, how's it looking?" a soldier standing near him asked.
"I think it's broken but not much. Should heal within two weeks I guess." he replied.
"I see."
"Good job by the way. You took care of the beasts in your area."
"It's an honour sir being acknowledged by you. But still, it's nothing compared to you soloing that Emperor." the soldier said.
"Hmm." Kevin hummed in reply.
At this time the soldier named Will had returned saying that the transport crafts are going to be here in another fifteen minutes. Kevin acknowledged it and unrolled his sleeves back. When being asked if he wanted first-aid he refused saying he didn't need it. The transport crafts finally came after fifteen minutes as said and they boarded it and made their way back to the base.
…
"Well, the fracture is not through the entire bone. So, two weeks give or take." the base doctor said while finishing putting on the cast.
"Thank you, doctor."
"I will prescribe you medicines for faster healing, but try to not put stress on your fractured hand in the meantime."
Kevin nodded.
"It would be better if you put your arm in a sling for additional support." the doctor suggested.
"No need."
The doctor nodded in reply and let him leave the medical bay. As he made his way out towards the front gates, he passed by the command room and entered. One of the soldiers saw him and saluted.
"Sir."
"At ease. I was just passing by here on my way to the gates outside. Keep up the work and notify me of further high-difficulty missions."
"Sir." The soldier saluted and returned to his post.
Kevin then made his way outside the base and to the train station. It had gotten dark and the moon was high in the sky. Kevin checked his watch; 10:00 pm, it was time for the last train so he hurried a bit to the station. Once he got on the train, he let his head rest on the window and got a little nap on his way back to Nagazora.
Kevin made his way out of the Nagazora central. It was past midnight and he was feeling a bit hungry, so he walked around the streets trying to find a Ramen stand to eat Ramen for dinner. He will never admit it but he was fascinated by this dish. It was the perfect combination of noodles, soup, and flavour and the best part was that you can actually eat it for your meals. The Ramen stand Su introduced him to had these huge bowls that held these long noodles much to Kevin's satisfaction. Thinking about Ramen now just made him hungrier, he had to find a stand fast.
"I said no." a feminine voice suddenly caused to get him out of his cravings for Ramen. He found that the sounds were coming from one of the back streets. Once he made his way around the corner, he found five men standing near a wall surrounding someone.
"I'm telling you Ojou-san, we mean no harm we just want to treat you to some nice food."
"I said I'm not interested." the voice was soft and calm.
"Come on lady don't hic make Takae hic aniki wait for too long. hic" one of the men laughed drunkenly.
"Let me go." the feminine voice said struggling.
"Didn't you hear me you little bitch?" the man who was their leader lifted his hand to strike the owner of the voice. Deciding that he had seen enough Kevin spoke from their behind:
"if she doesn't want to go with you, then why are you making a fool of yourself in front of her?"
"Huh? Whaddya say you lil' brat?" one of the men said in a fit of drunken anger.
Five men were totally inebriated and harassing a woman. Typical, decided Kevin. He was tired and getting hungry; thus he decided to at least reason with them and said:
"Look, it's past midnight now. I'm tired, hungry and want to go home and sleep. So, I don't really have the patience to do this now. Leave and I will pretend nothing happened."
"Look at what this asshole is saying?"
"How 'bout you fuck off?"
"Talk to us when you grow a pair."
At this Kevin understood that they are not going to listen to a civil conversation.
"Don't blame me for what is going to happen now."
"Huh, you think you are hot 'r somthin' you brat. Get him boys." the leader shouted and the five men pounced at him.
The first thug came to him swinging a punch which he dodged very easily and pounded his knee into the thug knocking him out in the first blow. The second thug swing a broken metal pipe he found somewhere, Kevin swung out of the way every time he swung the pipe. The thug was gasping for breath after a few swings. At this moment Kevin put him in an arm lock and disarmed him, following which he gave an uppercut with his good arm knocking the thug.
The third and fourth thug came together at him. One was carrying a knife and the other brass knuckles. He dodged one of them and gave a chop to the other one causing him to lose his balance and fall down. At this moment, the leader entered the fray swinging his fists wildly. He had a large body but that was the only thing going for him, Kevin just tipped him by putting his leg in front of him. Since the guy was just charging ahead swinging without any consciousness of his surroundings, he fell easily. The fourth thug took this chance and tried to give Kevin a lower cut which was stopped by him. However, the third thug who had fallen had gotten up and charged into Kevin as he was busy fighting the other two.
"gasp… Watch out." the feminine voice tried to warn as Kevin turned around to see the man charging with his knife pointed towards him, but unable to respond properly as his left arm was in a cast. Red flew in the air.
"W-wha-wha-" the thug holding the knife was in utter shock. Catching his knife with a bare hand in the cast was the brat in front of him. He tried to retreat, but the brat gripped the knife harder causing more blood to flow out from his palm but allowing him to lock the thug in the place.
"DIIIIIEEEEE." the thug with brass knuckles tried to land a punch but had his hand grabbed in mid-air by Kevin. He then turned his head to look at the thug. Cold Sky-blue eyes were boring down at the thug like he was an insect. They almost seemed to glow in the darkness of the night.
"Eeek." the thug tried to free himself but to no avail. Kevin then let go of the thug with the knife causing him to fall on his butt and punched the one with knuckles with his freed hand. The punch knocked him out cold along with breaking some of his teeth. The leader got up in the meanwhile and tried to charge like a bull only to get kneaded in his stomach by Kevin so hard that he vomited his dinner before going limp. Dealt with all the others, Kevin finally turned his head to the one who had the knife. He was shaking badly and saying things in a broken language that he didn't understand.
"I will give you thirty seconds, take your friends and leave before I change my mind." Kevin said in an extremely cold voice. The thug was shaking but somehow managed to pick up the other four despite him being skinny. Then with vitality that surprised Kevin a little quickly ran away.
"Thank you for saving me." the feminine voice said from behind him. That was when Kevin looked around to see the person whom those thugs were harassing.
She was a little taller than the girls that he had met thus far. Her soft Amber eyes were frowned in concern and her long Velvet Red hair billowed in the wind. She had a golden hairpin that went from the left side to the back of her head, its golden chains leading to a black bow in her velvety hair. She also had an earring on her left ear that looked to be expensive with a red gem within it. She also had a nice figure (not registered by Kevin) that would make any woman jealous. She looked to be in her late teens or early twenties and was wearing exquisite clothes under her overcoat that indicated that she was either extremely rich or extremely popular.
"Are you all right?" Kevin asked the woman.
"Yes, it's all because you came at the right time. I shudder to think what would have happened if you would have not come."
"Hmm." he replied. As she was thanking him, she saw the dropletss of blood dripping off his fingers of the hand in the cast.
"Oh my god, y-your hand." at this Kevin noticed his hand and saw the sliced palm from which blood was flowing. As usual, he noticed nothing when he grabbed the knife. He really had lost the ability to feel, Kevin was reminded.
"It's nothing." he said while shaking his hand to get the blood away which caused the droplets of blood to scatter in the air. The bleeding didn't stop however.
"No. don't do that; it will only hamper the stoppage of bleeding." she said as she took out a handkerchief and pressed it on his hand to stop the bleeding. As she pressed the wound to stop the bleeding she said:
"Let's go to a hospital to get the wound treated."
"No need."
"Please, I insist." her face was full of concern. Kevin sighed and relented.
"Fine. Lead the way." and they made their way to the nearest hospital while she held his hand to prevent further bleeding.
…
Fortunately, they found a local clinic not far off. They rang the bell a few times before a middle-aged-looking man came to the door. The moment he saw Kevin's hands he told them to quickly get inside. Once inside he went to treat the cut quickly. Fortunately, the cut was not too deep, and he was able to patch it up. However, seeing that the arm was already in a cast, he scolded Kevin lightly for getting hurt again in the same hand. After patching him, he looked over his hand and to the relief of the woman found that his fracture had not gotten worse. He only let Kevin leave after prescribing some additional medicines and telling him to take it easy for a few days.
Once they were outside, the woman released a breath and said relieved:
"Thank goodness, the wound was not too deep."
"Both you and that old man were fretting over nothing." Kevin replied.
At this, the woman looked at Kevin with a little stern gaze and chided:
"You got wounded in a hand that was fractured already. How much reckless can you be?"
"If I didn't do that, the thug may have stabbed me."
"But still it doesn't make it right for what you did. You could have handled it differently."
"I suppose so."
"What I'm trying to say is treasure yourself a little more."
"…" Kevin remained silent.
At his silence the woman decided to change the topic:
"Let me treat you to a meal at least back at my place."
"Not needed, it's getting late. Tell me where you live, I will escort you there."
At this the woman laughed and said:
"Oh it's not necessary, I have already called my chauffeur. He will be here in half an hour."
"Then let's sit somewhere while waiting for him." Kevin suggested.
"Hmm." The woman nodded. They finally found a bench nearby in a park and sat down.
"So, what were you doing out here at night?" the woman started.
"Work."
"What kind of work?"
"Not your concern. I didn't ask why you were here and I expect the same from you." Kevin said coldly.
"Fair enough I suppose." the woman sighed. Both then fell silent for some time before the woman spoke up again:
"Do you-" she started but stopped. She then took a deep breath and continued:
"Do you think it is okay to listen to others say what is good for you even if you have to leave what you love behind?"
Kevin looked at that woman, she had a sad look on her face. It seemed that she had her own burdens, but who doesn't. After thinking for a while, he said:
"From where I come, every decision has big consequences. So, when deciding, I have to think how it would affect the others."
"I see." the woman replied.
"But" Kevin continued causing the woman to look up at him "If what you believe is best for you from the bottom of your heart, then no one has the right to decide for you otherwise."
"Having responsibilities doesn't mean that you have to leave behind what you love. Because if you do, you won't be you anymore." Kevin continued while thinking about the people close to him back at Moths and here.
"You are the writer of your own story, and nobody has the right to say it otherwise. So, if you have something that you absolutely cherish and believe in, then follow your heart for it will surely lead you to the light you seek." Kevin finished speaking and looked directly into her eyes.
The woman's eyes widened before becoming moist. Nobody has said this to her, ever. That it was fine to choose to follow your heart. The boy before her may not know it, but he had just saved her. She took his uninjured arm and held it tightly while sniffing silently and letting her tears fall.
"Are you okay? Did I say something wrong?"
"No, it's just- Thank you." She said while looking at him smiling a true smile through her tears. She looked like a goddess at that moment with her gentle Amber eyes and her flowing long Velvet red hair.
Seeing her smile, Kevin was taken aback. She really was beautiful he realized. Seeing that her tears still flowed, he instinctively put his injured arm over her head patting her.
"giggle… You really are kind, aren't you?"
Kevin then stopped and tried to retract his hand only for the woman to stop it.
"Just a little longer. Please?" she requested with a pleading expression. At this Kevin complied and continued to pat her head.
Once her chauffeur arrived in an expensive black limousine, he got up and started to leave only for something to tug on his coat.
"Wait, my name is Eden; can you please... tell me yours?" she asked while looking at him expectantly. He felt the name was familiar but couldn't remember where he heard it before.
"Kevin." He said after a little while.
"Will we meet again Kevin?" she asked while frowning. She wanted to meet him again someday.
"Who knows?" Kevin said as he started walking away and waved at her. As she saw his back disappear into the night, Eden held her chest as she thought:
'We will definitely meet again, Kevin.'
