Trigger Warning: Throw up!

Chapter 18 - Unexpected - Part 1

"And we're moving into the new home next week. Some of the villagers have asked Cliegg to run for election, but I doubt it. He's much happier with the simple life of a farmer, I think." Shmi finished her tale.

"Very good news, this is. Happy for you, I am," said Yoda.

"Thank you, Master Yoda. Thank you for keeping me updated on Anakin. And I hope you have good luck with your uh, little experiment." Shmi smiled.

"Thank you. To change sometimes, long traditions need. Hard, this can be."

"Um hmm. We have a legend: An old Bantha walking a new path. Ask Ani to tell you that one."

"That, I will do." Yoda laughed, as he signed off of the Comm. "An old Bantha, indeed, I am."

He hadn't told her everything, of course. Especially not the reason he had to plan new paths. A warning of the ghost of your Grand-Padawan, now living, was hard to explain. But he told her a few things, and she was very helpful in her suggestions.

Yoda walked into the main Council chambers and looked over at Adi Gallia, who was reading the Council mail. "Come in, word has?" he asked her eagerly.

"Yes, the Judge has issued a warrant. We can send a team to arrest Krayn right away!" Adi announced from where she was reading the Council mail.

"And what about Magus?" Yoda then asked.

"Wha- oh yes. We have a Warrant for him too." Adi turned to face Yoda. "I get that this is good news. His victims' families will rest well, but why are you so pleased with it? It isn't even over yet. They still need to flip him to bring down the Corporate Alliance. Surely Krayn is the bigger news here."

"Big news, justice always is," Yoda hummed. He must have been projecting his emotions.

Adi smiled. "It was fortunate that the Jedi on those missions spotted the clues they did."

"True. Fortunate indeed, it was." Yoda agreed. If he had known to pay more attention the first time around, there would be a whole lot more Justice to bring about. But these cases meant an altered future, and a plan he could go ahead with. Getting certain teams of Jedi to the right place and time was trickier than you would think.

"Do you know who is going to bring her in?" Adi asked.

"Thought of that, I have not."

"It's just that she took the shadow mission to take down Krayn, because it was so long. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to knight Padawan Tachi. It's just, will this be long enough for her?" Adi fretted.

"A familiar face, perhaps I should send." Yoda came to a decision. "The mind of her Padawan, a Master always knows. Follow your guidance in this, I will."

Adi sighed. "If only that were true."

About a Year Earlier

"Siri, you can't be serious!" Bant exclaimed.

"No I am. If they refuse to do the work, let them stand in front of Master Che with nothing to say," Siri suggested.

"But it's a group assignment."

"And you've already done your part. Who was the only one who showed up to the last three 'group study sessions', hmm? You were! If those other losers insist on slacking off, they deserve Vocara's wrath."

"I can't just…" Bant struggled to word her reply. When Siri gets something into her head, it's hard to convince her otherwise.

"If any of them give you trouble, I'll have your back. Obi-Wan too," Siri said.

"And when is he getting back?" Bant asked.

"In a couple of days." Siri's eyes fazed out in a dreamy expression. Bant knew there was more to their relationship than just friendship. They technically weren't allowed to act on it, but they probably have. Siri had been grumpy for the last two weeks, waiting for him to return. "I just know that once he hears about this, he'll tell you the s-" Siri stopped talking suddenly and put a hand over her mouth. Then she turned and ran to the nearest refresher.

"Siri, what's going on?... Siri?" Bant followed her friend and found her crouched over a toilet. "Oh my! Siri, let me help." She grabbed a towel and bent over to help the poor girl.

"I'm sorry, I…" Siri choked as more came up.

Bant stroked her back soothingly. "It's ok. I've seen worse on night shifts in the Halls of Healing. One time, a whole team of Jedi returned from the Outer Rim after eating some foreign dish. They all got sick. Projectile Vomit everywhere. Do you think, maybe you ate something you shouldn't have?"

"Maybe… I can't think what." Siri wiped herself with the towel.

"Or, once there was a time when three younglings came down with a stomach flu. We were lucky, we managed to isolate them in time. Otherwise the whole Creche could've gotten sick. They threw up so much, we had to give them extra fluids so they wouldn't get dehydrated."

"Maybe, but I really don't feel sick. I'd have other symptoms too, I'd think."

"You know what, I'll bring you to the Halls of Healing. You should have a check up, just in case," Bant suggested.

Siri groaned.

"I'll come with you. It won't be that bad." Bant placed a hand on her friend's shoulder.

"Yeah, I know you're right. If I am sick, I wouldn't want to spread it."

Bant shook her head. "You and Obi. I don't know what it is about you two and the Healers." This got Siri to smile. "You'd think we were all scary Gundarks or something."

"We?" Siri asked. "Have you decided on your focus?"

Bant blushed. "No, I mean, I could join the healers. I'm pretty good at what I learned so far, It's just. It's going to sound silly."

"Nothing you say is silly to me. I'm a Sentinel, Obi's a Guardian, and you're a Consular. We're a trio."

"Alright. It's just, I don't know that I want to scrub down knights who get into Brambles on their missions, and repair what they shouldn't have been silly enough to do to themselves in the first place. I just have trouble feeling it, is all."

"I get that. No, I really do. You need to find that one niche that makes you feel it is all worth it. Master Gallia said that to me when we started. Haven't quite found it yet either, but then maybe together we can."

Bant smiled at her friend. "Together, we will."

Siri nervously walked into the Halls of Healing with Bant. She didn't want to tell her friend this, but there was another reason she was nervous to come here. Something was missing, but that didn't mean anything, she told herself. It is just a bit late due to the stress of Obi being gone on his mission, and her master being… Well, Adi was a stickler for perfection. She knew that when she accepted her offer of Padawanship.

"Welcome, Padawan Eerin. Padawan Tachi. What can I do for you?" Padawan Phyl asked from the check in desk.

"Siri isn't feeling well, and we thought a check up was due." Bant spoke up for her.

"Alright, let me pull up your file here. Ah, there we go. I'll have you in room three. Do you want us to call Master Gallia for you?"

"No! No, this isn't that serious. I'd like to just handle it myself." Siri had to pull herself back from biting his head off. The Padawan was only doing his job.

"Alright. Master Che will be in to see you shortly."

Siri nodded and walked towards the room he specified. Bant reached out and grabbed a datapad from the Padawan before she followed after her.

"Any dizziness or headaches?" Bant read from the datapad.

"Uh, no." Siri answered and her friend diligently filled in the form.

Knock knock. "Hello, Padawan Tachi. I understand you're not feeling well. What's brought you in today?" Vocara Che walked in and sat down.

"I couldn't really hold down my breakfast, that's all," Siri looked down and studied the blue freckles on the Healer's skin.

"I wrote it all down here." Bant handed her the datapad.

"I see," she glanced over the form. "It doesn't look like the Wookiee flu." Vocara smiled at her own joke. "But I'd like to run a few scans just to be safe. Padawan Eerin, if you'd like to scrub in, you can help."

"Oh really! Uh, I mean, I don't think…" Bant looked back and forth between them.

"Go ahead," Siri whispered. 'For someone who doesn't know if she wants to be a Healer, she gets awfully excited to see my medical scans.'

"That's great. I mean, whatever I can do to help." The Mon Calamari ran off to 'scrub in,' as Vocara suggested.

"Blah blah blah," Siri's head spun as Vocara continued to talk. She'd just given her diagnosis, and Siri couldn't hear anything from then on.

"You have no other significant results, so things are healthy. When your Master gets here…"

"What!" Those words stuck out to Siri.

"It's a policy. I'm sorry. We have to call her," Vocara said.

Bant stroked her back supportively, and whispered in her ear. Unfortunately, Siri's mind was ringing with the second revelation of the day.

Siri could feel her Master checking in on her through their bond, and her shields went up on instinct.

In the room surrounding her, Vocara tapped Bant on the arm. "She's going to need to process this. The rest of this day will be a blur for her. We'll give Master Gallia the information I just gave you both. For now, let her rest."

"Okay, I understand," Bant whispered.

Hello,

First, I'd like to thank user MMM73181 who kindly Beta read the chapter for me. She was especially helpful to me with Siri's character, because I have never read any Legends material.

I wrote a really long chapter, then made the difficult decision to divide it up. It looks like this one's going to be a three parter! Look for part two soon.

I had Yoda find ways to arrest Krayn, and Magus now to resolve a couple of things. Krayn was a criminal overlord with a little empire of his own. Siri's undercover mission was to take him down. In the Legend's 'Verse it lasted at least a couple of years. They did tell everyone that she 'left the order' after a fight with her Master. I've added a couple steps on the way to that story, of course. And Magus was a "bounty hunter," more like a hit man, who had a lot of deaths on his roster. He worked illegally for the Corporate Alliance, helping them to squelch competition basically, and in the Legends 'Verse he killed Siri.

Please do share your thoughts. I enjoy reading them.
