For as long as she could remember she always could be where she needs to be. And that was as true then as it is right now. She never knew why or how it happened but she can barely remember when it did. When she was younger it was more like a wish she could make and then it would happen. Since then she has learned what she can do and how to control it. The first time it happened was when she was young, probably about four years old. And it scared the hell out of her parents. They had all gone shopping at the local Macy's department store and they were holding each other's hands walking through the store looking for items that were on sale for her because she was starting kindergarten that September. Her mother has found many outfits for her to try on and once they were safely inside the changing rooms little Katie Beckett had picked out four of the ten outfits that her mother had selected for her loving the colors and patterns she picked out.

They were back out on the department store floor with the outfits she picked out and that's when she needed to go to the bathroom. She could look at one particular place and instantly appear there. She needed to go to the bathroom and knowing that her mother and father wouldn't take her right away because they were too busy looking for the sales of anything that caught their eye, she spied the girl's room which was about twenty feet away from where she was currently walking away from. While she was walking between her mother and father holding their hands tightly she closed her eyes and thought of the inside of the girl's bathroom. She had been there many times before with her mother so it was something she could focus on.

No sooner than a nanosecond later she was standing inside the girl's restroom making her way towards the stall to go to the potty.

Her mother and father were frantic. One second they were walking along the floor heading towards the little miss department holding their daughter's hands and the next second they noticed that they were holding empty air. Their daughter had been taken from them as far as they could tell.

They were searching all over for her and they couldn't find hide nor hair of her anywhere. How could she have so easily gotten away from them they could never figure out. They searched the children's department, the young misses' department, the toy department, and finally, they went to the security department to ask if she could page their daughter over the intercom overhead. Johanna didn't know if she could actually comprehend what was happening to her since she was only four years old but maybe she would hear her name announced and come to the security area of the store if she could find it.

Little Katie having finished going to the potty, washes her hands in the sink with soap and dries them as a good girl does. When she finishes she wishes she was back with her mom and dad. She closes her eyes once again and before she knows it and a nanosecond later she's standing right behind her father. She can tell that he looks very upset but she can't understand why. She looks up at her mom and sees that she has tears coming down her face and again she doesn't know why.

"Mommy, what's wrong?"

"What do you mean baby?" Johanna asked not realizing that her daughter had returned.

"I had to go to the potty and I wanted to show you how much of a big girl I am so I went all by myself and now I'm back."

Johanna who was stunned at seeing her daughter standing by her side and her pulling her dress looks over to her husband and can't imagine how she got between them. She never heard her walk up behind them. She decides that an impromptu investigation is needed.

"Katie, when you left us did you walk to the girl's room, or did you get there by doing something else?"

"No mommy, All I remember is that I needed to go really bad and I was there. Then when I wanted to be with you I just wished it to happen and it did."

Johanna look at Jim and wondered how this could have happened. They had both noticed that she was not there and then in less than five minutes she was standing between the both of them as if she had never left them.

Johanna and Jim knew that what happened was not normal. Their daughter had left them for five minutes and they had no clue as to where she had gone. They didn't doubt her telling them where she had gone, it was how she got there in the first place. Their first course of action was to figure out exactly what happened to their daughter.

The walk back to the subway was not enough time to have a talk with Katie about how she had escaped their grip. So Jim decided to wait until they got back home.

Walking into her apartment Johanna gave Jim a look that told him they were going to settle this once and for all.

"Katie, could you do me a favor and sit down right here?" Jim asked her daughter as he patted the love seat with his hand.

"Sure Daddy, what's wrong?"

"There's nothing wrong bug. We just want to have a short talk with you about what happened today at the department store."

"Oh. Okay."

Jim and Johanna sit down across from Katie both keeping a close eye on her.

"Katie, we need to know how you were able to leave us and end up in the bathroom. We're not going to scold you for what happened but we just need to know how you were able to get from one place to another without us knowing." Johanna asks.

"It's simple Mommy. All I do is think of somewhere I want to be and I'm there. When it happens there is a little bit of black smoke and I don't see anything until I get to where I'm going. It was the same today when I went to the bathroom. All I did was wish I was there and I was there. And now when I was finished washing my hands I wished I was back with you and I close my eyes then opened them again I was back with you right behind you.

"Does it hurt when this happens to you?" Jim asks.

"Oh no Daddy it doesn't, it just tickles a little bit, and then it's over that's all I can say about that."

"Okay, Katie why don't you go to your room and read a book while me and your daddy talk.

"Okay, Mommy. I guess I'll just read a book to my dolly."

"What do you think Jim? I mean this is something straight out of science-fiction. I've never had anything like this happen to me before in my life and I know you haven't either because I've been married to you for the past ten years. What do you think?"

"Jo, I'm not sure what to think. I don't doubt what she does is probably real it's just that we lost her for five minutes today and I don't know where she went to. Or even how she got there. I don't know about you but I was so scared that we'd lost her for good."

"I felt the same way. You don't know what it was like to look down and see that she wasn't there when we had a firm grip on her hand."

"Why don't we see what happens with her? Maybe it won't happen again."

Ever since that day she had focused on how she used her powers. She wouldn't even know what to do if she didn't have the power that she had. All during her teens, she was able to get from one place to another just by simply thinking about where she wanted to go. Ever since that day in Macy's her mother had told her that using this power was something she had to control and not ever be seen Blinking. Many times her mother will come up to her room after she had "Blinked" as she called it to ask her something but all she found was an empty room.

Later when she was older her parents wanted to take a trip abroad. They had planned everything down to a tee and were looking forward to seeing the Irish coastline and all attractions in Rome. It was a trip to celebrate their twentieth anniversary of being married. That was until the airline they were using to get to Ireland for their first leg of the trip went on strike. They tried everything to get another flight out but only realized that not only was their airline on strike but all the other International carriers as well were on strike to honor the first airline company workers on strike in solidarity. They were devastated.

Kate took matters into her own hands had her parents sit down at the kitchen table and explained what she could do. Kate herself had me doing this to get back and forth to school in the blink of an eye. She had also been to many places on the globe within a heartbeat. But now what she proposed to do was to take her parents across the pond and start their vacation. The problem is that she had never done it with more than just herself. This was a learning experience for all three of them so instead of taking both of them at once, she took just her mother.

"Mom want I want to do is have you come with me go somewhere close by to start with and if we can do that then I can't see why I won't be able to take you and Dad to Ireland and that way the two of you can start your trip."

To say that she was a little skeptical was an understatement but she would try anything the first time.

Kate had a short trip set up and in her mind, it was less than a nanosecond. She would take her mother to Cape May lighthouse. If you were to drive by car it would take you a little under two and a half hours from the city. They would be there in less than a second. She took her mother's hand and said this to her,

"Mom it's going to feel a little weird like your insides are being turned outside and then you will feel nothing. When we get to where we're going the reverse will happen. You'll want to scream but when you do nothing will come out of your mouth. Being that this is going to be your first time you might even pass out when we get to where we are going. Just let it pass and you'll see how quickly you get used to it. Now that I've explained everything to you are you ready?"

"No, but you're going to take me anyway I can see that look in your eye."

Before Kate could respond she closed her eyes and they were both gone.
