Saturday's reading to the children went off without a hitch. And while Kate had thought about what Rick said at her apartment all during the time that they were reading to the children she still wasn't believing him a hundred percent. No one could tell the future because if they did they wouldn't be a person who wrote children's books. They would use whatever power they did have to make money the illegal way or even the legal way. Whichever the case may be she knew that Rick didn't possess that kind of wealth.

After her bet was paid in full they made their way out of the library. Rick had asked if they could get a light lunch together at a small deli he knew was close by. She declined politely but her friend had overheard Rick asking her to lunch. As it turns out Dee and Jayla had volunteered to take the children back to the Youth Center and she would be free to go with Rick.

Kate who had wanted to go home and relax after reading at the library and then returning the children to the Youth Center wanted to shoot daggers into her friend's eyes. Now she couldn't refuse Rick's kind offer. So she agreed to go with him. They went to the deli and ordered a sandwich for each of them. The deli was large enough to have seating for the both of them away from the main counter. They took their purchases to the booth and started to eat. Halfway through his sandwich Rick put his sandwich down and just looked at Kate.

Kate, sensing that he was staring at her stopped eating and placed her sandwich down on the table as well and said,

"What?"

"Nothing. But I'm just wondering if you gave any thought to what I'm able to do?"

"What do you mean like you being able to tell the future?"

"Yeah, that."

"Come on Rick, telling the future is something that fortune-tellers do. And from my experience, it's never a hundred percent accurate if at all. You know the old trick of reading your palm, feeling the bumps on your head, and holding seances are just not real. No one can tell the future. It's all sleight of hand or in this case, flat out lies."

"Is that what you think?"

"Think about it, if you could see into the future you'd be one of the richest men in the world. You could get in on the ground floor of any new company and buy stock in it. Or you would be able to foretell the six numbers it takes to win the jackpot in the Mega Millions or Powerball Lotteries. All you'd have to do is wait until the jackpot got big enough and play the six numbers you predicted and you would never have to work a day in your life again."

Rick could only look at her with a sad face. He wouldn't even counter with his reason for not doing that, He believed in making his money the real way, and not by taking advantage of his gift. He should be used to it by now because he's seen it all by the way people doubt him. Everybody he decided to confide in about his gift decides that it can't be true or that he is lying. So now he doesn't know if he should continue to push the issue that he can see the future or just drop it. He goes with just dropping it.

"You're right Kate. Nothing can get past a decorated NYPD Detective. I was a fool to even try putting one over on you."

"Good. I'm glad to see that you've come to your senses and finally realized that you can't see into the future."

Rick was finished. If she didn't believe him then so be it. He picked up his paper plate and beer bottle deposited them into the recycling bin in the garbage pail and turned to see her watching him. When he came back into her living room he told her he was leaving.

"Kate I'm going to go now. I've enjoyed our time together and I hope that in the future you find someone who will appreciate what you can offer them."

Kate realizes that there was something final with the way he said what he said. She knew a brush-off when she heard it. But before she could do anything about it Rick took her hand in his and kissed her knuckles.

It was a weird feeling. When Rick took Kate's hand into his there was a feeling of instant connection in more ways than one. He was able to see more than just what was going to happen to her. He knew about the incident in the cemetery but he never knew who pulled the trigger. And even though he could see her future only for the next week he never knew what happened after she went to the hospital. He didn't know if she lived or died. It seemed that all his visions had ended when she was lying on the ground. But the second he touched her hand things fast-forwarded to a month into her future.

What he sees stuns him. It almost feels like he's having a slight heart attack because his heart just seizes for a split second. There aren't many people there but he's back in the cemetery. He sees her best friend Lanie and the two male detectives that make up her team standing above a freshly covered grave. He doesn't have the mindset to look at the headstone in this vision but he knows in an instant when they start talking that she is actually dead.

"Kevin, do you think this is a good location for her?" Lanie asks.

"I do. She's near the two people who loved her the most. I just hope that we had more to go on to find out who shot her. The new captain has suspended anything to do with her case and Javi and I have been doing what we can on our off time to find out who killed her. We just can't seem to get any traction in her case."

"When I catch the son of a bitch that killed her he'll wish he'd never been born!" Esposito says angrily.

"Javi, I think that you'll never be able to find out who did this to her. There was no evidence of her shooting except a mangled bullet. It could have come from any weapon. I wish I had better news." Lanie admitted.

All three people look down at the headstone that had been recently installed. They had lost a friend and a colleague but they would never stop trying to find out who took her life away from her….

The second she removed her hand from his the vision went blank. He didn't see anything past the three of them standing there over her gravesite. Now he knew we had to do something because he didn't want to see her end up like this.

"As I said before Kate I have to go. I wish you luck in your future endeavors."

Rick turned and headed for the door. But before he could reach for the doorknob she said something that made him stop in his tracks.

"When will it happen?"

Rick slowly turns around and looks at her and can see that she knows something. He really shouldn't say anything but he cares for her so he does.

"Soon." Is all he says. "Oh and Kate, you need to look at the Au pair in the current case that you're investigating. The one with little Garrett."

He turns the doorknob pulls the door open and walks through it. He makes it down to the sidewalk and when he looks up at her apartment he can see her following his every move all the way down to the subway station.

When Rick got home he realized that more than her life was at stake. She knew something but she didn't know. So it would be his job to make sure that she lived a long and happy life even if it was at the cost of his own life. It was then when he realized that he was falling in love with her.

He goes over plans to try and save her life but every time he looks into her future it changes once again. In one instance the assassin is behind a tree instead of a gravestone 150 yards away. In another instance, he is up in a tree taking his shot at her. So instead of driving himself crazy, he decides that he will study each scenario that has her being shot. He will then determine when it happens, where it happens, and all the particulars he would need to save her life. Because he doesn't intend to lose her.

The second Kate watched Rick leave her apartment she knew that what he told her earlier had some truth to it. But that's not all. He knew about her current case and she'd never told him that it was a little boy who was murdered. Now she's kicking herself in the ass because she kicked him out of her apartment not totally believing that he could see the future. She thinks back to the conversation and realizes that when he left he gave her a small clue as to what would happen. Now if she could only capitalize on that clue she might be able to come out of this in one piece.
