She sits there on her love seat for a full thirty minutes deep in thought after he abruptly left her apartment. She never told him about the case that she and the boys were working on and she can't figure out how he found out about it.
But the most upsetting fact was that he told her to look into the Au pair. She never gave the woman a second look once she had started her investigation. What did he know about their case that she didn't? Then the blood in her veins runs cold with an astounding thought. Could he see into the future?
She'd always been a skeptic about other people who might have a gift, and she is slowly coming around to the fact that he could have some "power" so to speak. She is not on board one hundred percent but some things don't add up that she can't explain. The pizza guy delivering her dinner is the first puzzle she has a problem with.
Sure he could have called ahead to find out if she did call a pizza shop in the area to have a pie delivered but the odds of finding the exact one she had ordered from in the time he had before he arrived at her apartment are in her mind astronomical. So she is leaning a little towards him being able to do something with the future. Not necessarily being able to see into it, but maybe he can predict the things that could happen by using the process of eliminating the obvious.
But her mind keeps going back to how he knew that the Au pair was the person responsible for little Garrett's murder. There is no way that he could know that it was her who had committed the murder. But his claim gives her another reason to believe that he can tell the events that could be considered the future.
She thinks that he would be upset if she told him that she could blink anywhere she wanted to if she had been there. This would be like her calling the kettle black and she was the pot. She has never told anyone what she is capable of doing other than her mother and father. They have known that she had the ability since she was a young girl.

She did not sleep well last night. The right part and the wrong part of her brain would not stop arguing in her head. Half of her wants to tell him what she can do, but the other half can't only because she fears that she will end up in some top-secret lab buried under a mountain somewhere in the southwestern desert.
But as she gets ready to go to work she thinks to herself that she has bigger fish to fry. The Au pair whom she had never suspected will be the first person she looks into this morning. She had come across as the innocent in this playing the helpless waif from Croatia. Well, now the gloves are off.
Kate gets behind the wheel of her unit and starts it up. Just then she has a thought about how he must feel about what he sees if he might be able to see the future. He must have a lot of what it's and maybes and she can bet that he has hard decisions to make.

Leaving her apartment to give her time to cool off was probably the most sensible thing he's done since he's met her. She did it again today when she adamantly denied that he could see what was going to happen to her in the future. When she told him that she didn't believe that he could see the future something between them changed. He doesn't know if it's something that is felt between two people who have a certain power or not but he knows he feels that something is off between them. He was foolish because he never understood why or how she could have had a power and he was not able to realize it until now. Right now he doesn't have the time or luxury to figure out what that power is because he needs to be back home in the loft.
Arriving at the loft he heads towards his office. In it, he has a very large flat-screen TV that doubles as an idea board of sorts when he outlines his book ideas. On the board, he has all the pathways that her life might take if she continues doing what she's doing. This is what he can't figure out. He knows that she is doing something he just doesn't know what it is. And this is what gets her killed. Because in every vision he has, she ends up not surviving.
He keeps at the board for about two hours filtering the events by way of how she dies. He has grouped the ways her life ends into specific categories and thinks that if he is in the right place at the correct instant, he, by himself should be able to save her.
But there is another issue, he still needs to find out what she is doing that gets her into this situation in the first place. He has used the only hook he had to get the information on where she worked. He doubts he can go back to the same well again for more. No, he needs another source. As he sits in his leather chair a thought hits him like a ton of bricks.
He and Christopher have an agreement. He asks for information about certain NYPD issues and Christopher provides what he can. Their agreement is always a cash transaction and Rick is never meeting with him face to face. He just passes off what was requested of him and that is the end of that particular request. The next request has the same parameters but the amount of cash he asks for could be adjusted either up or down depending on how hard the information is to get.
So he thinks about applying his source to look into what it is that could have Kate so obsessed that she would risk her life. He needs to know what this is before he can move on any further. He shuts down the flat screen and leaves his office for some sleep. Maybe tomorrow he will contact Christopher.

When he wakes up the next morning the sun has yet to rise. Sleep evaded him for most of the night and what sleep he did get was restless at best. He had given her the Au pair and wondered if she would look into it.
Knowing that the temptation was too great for her to refuse, he wonders how long it will take her to tell the boys to pull the Au pair for an interview or possibly arrest her.

The second Kate exited the elevator, she had already told Espo and Ryan to be at her desk ready to go and pick up the Au pair.
"Are you guys ready to go?" She asks as she strides towards her desk.
The boys both nod in unison.
"Listen up guys, I think that she is thinking she got away with her story of being at the house when Garret was killed. Just be prepared for anything."
As they all get ready to leave Kate has a weird feeling about what might happen when they get to the suspect's dwelling.

Pulling up in front of the Au pair's apartment building Kate gets out of her unit and starts for the trunk. She quickly puts on her bulletproof vest and when she is finished she sees that the boys are just about done too. Closing their trunk lids together, they remove their weapons. Each pulls the slide back and confirms that they are ready to go. With weapons at their sides, they enter the lobby of the complex. She gives the name of the Au pair to the boys so they know who it is they are here to arrest.
"Kevin, Javi the name of the woman where here to arrest is named Lucija Knežević," Kate tells them. With a simple nod, they are off.
The three of them take to the stairs to approach the apartment quietly. Once they arrived at her door they took up a defensive position near the entry point, they announced who they were.
"NYPD we have a warrant!" Kate shouts out as she slams her hand against the door.
After about fifteen seconds of silence, they hear a thud and then glass breaking.
Espo looks over to Beckett and she nods at him. The next sound that is heard is the door coming off its hinges when Espo landed a well-placed kick to the door handle. All three detectives take a different path clearing the apartment. In less than thirty seconds everyone but Ryan called out clear. Cautiously Beckett and Esposito move to the small bedroom off the kitchen. When they enter they see why he never called out that it was clear.
Automatically they both raised their weapons and trained them on the suspect that now had Ryan from behind holding a razor-sharp kitchen knife to his throat.
"Napravite još jedan korak i ja ću mu prerezati grlo."
At first, Kate was taken aback by the use of the Au pair's native tongue. Quickly thinking she answered her in like.
"Sve što želimo je razgovarati s tobom. Ovdje nema potrebe nikome naštetiti."
"Lažljivac! Ne vjerujem američkoj policiji"
Kate looks to Espo for some help to which he just shrugged his shoulders knowing that they were in a no-win situation.
Kate needed to get ready to expect just about anything. So she lowered her weapon and gave a look to Javi to do the same. However, this turned out to be a mistake on her part.
She watched as the knife the Au pair was holding is being pressed with more pressure against the front of Ryan's neck.
She has a thought but if she acts on it it will expose her power. If she does use it she will have a hard time explaining what the boys and the suspect have just seen. She tries to think of another solution but all she can come up with is her original idea.
Translations:
"Take one more step and I will slit his throat."
"All we want to do is to talk to you. There is no need to harm anyone here."
"Liar! I do not trust American police."
A/N: Since someone suggested that I give Kate a power similar to Rick's (you know who you are) a majority of this story had to be rewritten. As of now, tonight's chapter will be the last of the Tuesday and Thursday postings. I will be posting once again on Sunday at 0700 EST for the remainder of the story.
