Chapter 9: Lies

FUTARI NO KIMOCHI-OST

DREAM

"Where…am I?"

As he thought that, what he found himself in was darkness, nothing but darkness with gif feet appearing to be stepping in water as every step had water splash.

"Damn that Inuyasha…" As he heard that voice, he looked in the direction to finally see the first thing and that was a figure, the darkness in his heart taking the form of a man once again yet his back was turned away from him and facing another direction where a scene was playing of a woman that was walking away, giving off a pure a white-light yet despite not being able to see her face, he knew immediately who she reminded him of and the name.

"Kikyo…?" As he muttered that name, he saw the man who had stayed still till now, finally move as his left hand turned to a shaking fist and with it, he found himself overwhelmed by complicated emotions, hate, anger, regret, sadness, and love.

(If only…)

DREAM END

"If…on—"

In an instant his eyes shot open yet he didn't react but took in what he had just witnessed in his dream, that was until he began to realize the situation he was in from the small movement that was 'very' close to him that got him wondering how long he was out for. He found himself in a very curious position of him cuddling up with Moroha, his arms wrapped around her while she appeared to be snuggling into his chest despite the fact he wasn't alive and did not produce body heat along with the fire being out, yet even so the two had their arms wrapped around the other with said girl finally stirring, her eyes slowly opening as she moves her hand to rub her eyes.

"Morning Whiskers, how—" She stopped mid-sentence as she was met with a very 'close' Naruto which she looks down before her face turns a shade of red that would put the blonde's mothers hair to shame, immediately she separated with him letting go as he just sat up, trying to take in what happened yet despite the situation they were just in, his thoughts just went back to that dream until he saw Moroha looking at him with wide-eyes with the blush fading.

"What is it?" He stops to see her turn away.

"Are you ok?" Her words seemed to make him pause as he thought about yesterday until he realized something and reached up to his face, wiping away the tears that seemed to have once again caused him to pause as he just thinks about the dream and the emotions he felt from the dream before wiping his eyes with his arm.

"Yeah…just a dream." Hearing him say that, she just looks away while scratching the back of her neck with embarrassment.

"So…about yesterday…" As he heard those words, his eyes widen as he thought about everything but frowns.

"I'm not sure what to say," He runs a hand through his hair. "but it seems there are things I don't fully know about myself but please…keep this between us, I'll try and tell Towa when I can." Moroha just stares at him while he held his somber expression before with one swing her hand slaps his back, causing him to jolt as he just looks at Moroha who shows him a smile.

"Just so you know Whiskers, she's gonna worry about you if you keep that expression on your face." She gives him a toothy grin. "So how about smiling more, even if it feels forced so she won't worry too much." Naruto just stares at Moroha in surprise before her eyes widen as her face starts to heat up at what she said.

"How would you—"

"I-Intuition!"

Immediately she turns away, trying her best to stay calm.

"A-Anyways, I'm…gonna go see Jyūbei again, maybe another Bounty showed up so I best check! I'll see ya' later!" And without another word, she waves while running right out of the room with Naruto just standing there in surprise before he appears to go back into thought, his gaze glancing at the silent Sō'unga.

It took him about an hour to arrive back at the village, wondering just what he should say as he walks up to the curtains that acted as a door but he froze as the flash of memories hit him once again, villagers being slaughtered, men, women, and even children and with it the feeling satisfaction that caused his hand to shoot up to his mouth as the feeling contradicted his feelings of disgust a horror.

"I'm going to Mount Musubi to find the dream butterfly." Naruto jolts as his eyes widen. "After all, it's why I came to this era in the first place and to save Naruto so I'll see you later!" Immediately he pulled his hand away and took a step back as the curtains were pushed to the side, revealing a smiling Towa who stops in her tracks to find Naruto standing there.

"Naruto." Her eyes widen and walk towards him with concern. "What happened, you and Moroha were gone for two days—" She looks both ways and focuses on him.

"Is Moroha ok, I don't see her?" Yet his reaction to this was glancing away nervously.

"S-She's okay, she went back to the corpse dealer to see if an update came in on Bounties but so far we ran into trouble with a couple demons that were causing problems with a family…" As he answered, Towa's eyes widen at the expression he was showing.

"Is everything ok, you don't—" Immediately a hand rested on her shoulder.

"A lot happened is all I can say…" He forces his smile to make it look as genuine as he could, yet Towa just looked unsure as to what he exactly went through.

"So, I overheard what you said. Going to Mount Musubi for the Dream Butterfly?" Her nod immediately got a response. "Ok, how about I join you?" Despite hearing him, Towa looked at him unsure yet even so he just smiles.

"Towa, what happened doesn't mean I can't do anything, besides we haven't spent any time together, just the two of us." His words got her eyes to widen as he once again reassured his best friend yet even so she didn't exactly buy it yet, in the end, she signs to herself.

"Fine, we'll be heading east so let's go!" With that said, the daughter of Sesshōmaru began to lead the way with Naruto watching her with the expression turning to being bothered as a flash of corpses appear in his mind yet he tries his best to ignore it as he follows after her.

"I guess using a modern map is pretty pointless."

"This is why we shouldn't have brought anything, if we lose one thing then it'll cause problems in our time."

The two were conversing side-by-side, Towa holding the map from their Era while Naruto walked next to her.

"What makes you think that?" The curious expression she put on her face got a raised eyebrow.

"Haven't you seen the movie, "Back to The Future"? That question caused her to tilt her head while the blonde just sighs.

"Seriously," He showed shock. "we watched that at my house a month ago." His question caused her to put on a thoughtful look as if she were trying to remember.

"I can't remember much, after all, I couldn't focus with your mom standing around the corner, watching us with a camera." This caused his eyes to widen before he facepalms while Towa was glancing away, a little embarrassed upon the fact the memory has more meaning now she knows of Naruto's feelings for her.

"You Samurai seem troubled." Just like that, the two look up to find one guy jumping down before them with Towa dropping the map at seeing the newcomer who had a smile which the two get ready, Towa grabs her blade and looks at Naruto to see he was reaching for his weapon as well yet noticed sudden hesitation appear in his eyes as he stops himself from grabbing the hilt of the sword.

"No need for that." The man suddenly said, trying to diffuse the tension that got Towa to look at him. "I promise I'm not suspicious." Spoken by the suspicious man that jumped from a tree.

"Is that so." She proceeds to grab Map than Naruto's arm to pull him along. "In that case don't bother us, we're busy." As she said that, the two walk past him yet she looks back, not at the newcomer but at Naruto with clear worry.

"Naruto, are you—" He avoids her eyes just as they were followed by the guy.

"I'm sorry but I can't agree to that." He shows a kind smile. "I think we should stick together since we're all lost." His words came to be disagreed by Towa with Naruto silently knowing he wasn't wrong.

"Ok, but you still lost your way, right?"

"We're not lost, we are searching for the Dream Butterfly. Now Buzz off, I'm trying to talk to Naruto." As the two conversed, Naruto was staring at the strange man in suspicion yet for some reason he had the oddest sensation that the man had no ill will towards them.

"From the information, I was told, there located on Mount Musubi." Her words just got the stranger to smile more.

"What's this, I thought you were a Samurai but you're a Princess, huh." That phrase immediately got Naruto to sigh as he just mistook her for a man, tho he couldn't blame him since she tends to wear clothing more seen on men yet he hadn't dared say such a thing lest he earns her glare.

"I hope you'll forgive my terrible mistake." As he asked for forgiveness, Towa just pulls Naruto along as she hurries up with the man following close behind.

"Please don't leave me behind, Princess and Samurai!" He moves to get in front of them, stopping the annoyed Towa. "I'm having so much trouble trying to find my ship." His words took Towa by surprise, once again conversing with the guy and realizing they've been going in the wrong direction.

"Now I've done, I thought we were heading towards the mountains." She crosses her arms. "But we ended up getting closer to the sea instead." Her gaze meets Naruto's who proceeds to look at the map before she starts to sniff the air, gaining his attention.

"Your right, I smell water from here." Her words seemed to have taken the two by surprise." This got the man to smile in happiness.

"Really? That's great," He suddenly grabs her hand, surprising Towa and taking Naruto off guard. "Let's go!" He starts running, pulling along the girl and leaving Naruto standing there before a scowl begins to form on his face.

It took only a few minutes to arrive at a river where the three just stare at it, two of which were dumbfounded at the ocean being a river.

"Eheheeh." Towa scratches the back of her head. "I guess this might be a little too small to be an ocean, huh?" Despite hearing that, he wasn't even an ounce disappointed.

"Even so, if I follow this river I'm certain to find my way! Thank you for all your help, I'm grateful." His words caused Towa to smile, unlike Naruto who felt him be distrusting…or just thinking of that because he grabbed Towa's hand. The princess half-demon begins to stretch, speaking of the great weather before she sets her belongings. It was at this moment the two witnessed an orb of water rising from the river, taking them by surprise at how he was doing that.

"Wow, so cool! What is that, some kind of special power?" Her question got his attention while he was taking a drink of it.

"Not really, if you focus your energy then anybody could do this. I'm sure you could if you tried." As the water disperses back into the ocean he approaches the two.

"Really?" Towa had a look of wonder on her face before she smiles. "Hey Mister, you wanna come and join us?" This caught Naruto by surprise, one second she was untrusting but the next inviting him to eat with them tho technically he didn't need to eat for just being a reanimated corpse.

"Princess, I don't need to be rude but I'm no mister." He lays his belongings next to Towa and proceeds to sit on her right with Naruto just staring at him. "However, you may call me Riku if you would like but what may your names be, Princess and Samurai."

"I'm not a Princess nor is he a Samurai but I'm Towa Higurashi and behind me is my friend, Naruto Uzumaki. Riku, I'll be sure to remember." With that said, she takes a drink of her water.

"I'd prefer you remember me as Riku the Pirate, Lady Towa, alright?" This immediately got a shocked reaction from Towa while Naruto became more suspicious of who the guy was.

"Rest assured, I don't take from Women, Children, or those in need." Towa could only pause in wonder while Riku examines the food before him.

"Such a fascinating sight," He picks up the apple. "I've never seen something like this before, is it edible?" His question gained a smile from Towa who watch him take a bit before appearing to be amazed.

"Oh my! It's wonderful, this flavor…there's nothing like it!" As he spoke, Towa just smiles at the man's reaction, unlike Naruto who was more on guard. The two have their conversation about food.

"When you're all done with it, I'll take the core." Despite saying that, their eyes widen to see he ate the entire apple.

"Thanks for the hospitality." He begs in to stand with his tone becoming h more somber. "As one abandoned by his master, it's far more than I deserve." The two just stare at him in confusion about what he was going on about yet he just turns to them smiling.

"Thank you Lady Towa and Sir Naruto." Despite saying that, he was immediately corrected by Naruto for not liking the 'Sir' in his name.

"By the way, is that perhaps the Kikujūmonji?" His gaze lay on the replica sword with Naruto staring at him suspiciously.

"It's just a knockoff, see." She unsheathes it to reveal that the blade had gotten broken over the course of everything that has been going on.

"I should think so, the real one should be with the Deputy Shogun of Kantō, Ogigayatsu Hiiragi as it was bestowed to him by the Shogun." This seemed to puzzle Towa at the Deputy and Shogun parts yet Riku just smiles.

"I would like to repay your kindness." With a flick of an earring, a boat comes out of nowhere, floating down the river.

"If fate allows it, I hope to meet again. Until then, farewell." That was the last thing he said before walking away and jumping onto the boat that was nearing them. It was at this time the two realized what was left behind.

"WAIT!" She lifts the forgotten weapon that was the only thing left. "YOU FORGOT THIS!" The man merely smiles and looks towards them.

"I would like to present that to you as a gift. A reminder of our meeting." This surprised the Princess who goes to examine it while Naruto just tilts his head at what the actual point was with Towa examining the blade that looked awful like…

Naruto's eyes bugged for a second as the conversation registered in his mind and with all the days in detention coming to mind of getting in trouble he came to realize one thing, unlike Towa who was looking at the blade in amazement.

"This is the real deal, Naruto—" She stops to see the look he makes when she does something that gets herself in trouble.

"What?"

"Hey, you there!" Upon hearing that, the two turn to find a large group of armed men had arrived.

"Stay where you are, we are retainers of the Deputy~~" As one went on, Towa's eyes widen and turns to Naruto who nods as if telling her that it's true what just happened.

"So you're the culprit who stole that Katana a few days ago!" He demands as they four surround the two with their spears pointing at them.

"We're taking you into custody so drop the weapons!" This time, it was their turn to get serious as the Princess gets in front of Naruto who was griping Sō'unga.

"Please, this is a misunderstanding! We didn't steal it, we were given it!" Despite her words, they didn't appear to even remotely take her words in but labeled them as just lies.

"Ahaha, we've got you Princess Half-Demon!" Spoke an ordinary-looking wrinkled old man arriving by horseback, smiling yet Naruto and Towa immediately became on guard at how he knew who Towa was while he gave off an inhuman aura.

Unlike Towa who appeared amazed, Naruto's eyes just narrow in suspicion on just how the hell he did something like that.

"That clothing you two wear, there's no doubt in my mind that there from the other world." His words further confirmed their thoughts just as one guard made a move to grab Naruto's arm yet immediately found his arm grabbed by Naruto.

"Hey!" The blonde found the blade of the spear against his neck. "Drop the weapons or face the consequences—" He stops the moment they all hear footsteps, the elder's eyes widening and turns.

"What are you doing here—"

"Relax, Sōkyu." Spoke none other than a samurai riding a horse, his jet black armor reflecting the sunlight while the mask worn under the helmet appeared to resemble a laughing Oni.

"I'm merely here to take these two to meet the Deputy Shogun, his orders." As he spoke, Sōkyu frowns at the masked one.

"If that is his wish, but first they must be—" He stops to see a finger being raised.

"I'll be there so there's no reason to disarm them, they wouldn't be much of a threat even armed and besides I would say taking away their weapons would put them more on edge." When he said that, the entire group was puzzled but most of all those two at his cocky attitude with Sōkyu just continuing to stare at the samurai who tilts his head before he looks away.

"I see, bring them and their belongings to the estate. They may keep their weapons but bind their arms." He ordered which they nod while taking away the real sword Towa held. Yet the three just stare in confusion at the samurai, and why he would do such a thing yet the entire time, Naruto felt as if his gaze was on him despite the fact he couldn't even see his eyes.

(This presence and that residual aura…)

Sō'unga remained unresponsive but in thought, yet even so he was indeed watching in curiosity and more so annoyance.

With the sun finally down, the two found themselves sitting before the Deputy Shogun with Sōkyu sitting on his left and the black-armored Samurai on the right, leaning against the wall.

"Do I address the Princess Half-Demon?" He questions with his gave momentarily moving on to Naruto. "I am Deputy Shogun of Kantō, Ogigayatsu Hiiragi Danjo." With that said in a calm tone that could put many at ease, they still spoke.

"My name is Towa Higurashi."

"Naruto Uzumaki."

"Sorry to burst your bubble but I'm no Princess Half-Demon." She begins to frown at the man looking at Sōkyu.

"She claims it's just mistaken identity, Sōkyu." His words merely got a shake of the head.

"My lord, if I may please allow me." He looks towards them. "My young Princess and swordsman, this manuscript was on your person, was it not?" What he shows was social studies and history book which Naruto if he could have facepalmed while Towa glances away in anger at Moroha's screw-up.

"Here's some friendly advice, you should let us go now if you know what's good for you or wise your not going to like it when my friends get to hear." Her words merely got a whistle from the samurai while Sōkyu frowns at the response yet in the end forces a smile.

"Such nonsense, I have something I would like you to see." With a clap of his hands, the door slides open to reveal a man carrying in a box that was placed in the center of the room and inside it was something that Towa didn't know. It Naruto on the other hand felt his heartbeat get faster while Sō'unga started to vibrate next to him.

"What?" As he asked that, Towa looks at her childhood friend to see the look on his face becoming more and more unnerved, what sat in the box was a broken and beat-up sword.

(This is unexpected.)

Naruto jolts, finally hearing Sō'unga's voice yet felt as if it was leaning over his shoulder to look at the broken blade.

(To think that the Tessaiga would be broken to the point the power it held is almost gone…)

As he heard those words, the Deputy finally spoke upon seeing his face.

"So you recognize this blade."

The question got him to jolt as he looks up with Towa looking to see the complicated look on his face, not getting it at all.

"So it would seem, he at least knows something about it." Sōkyu said with a smile while Towa frowns.

"What does that book and weapon have to do with us?" Her words got a laugh from the elder.

"There were once rumors in the Musashi Province, you see the story goes that a priestess arrived through the Bone-Eaters Well from a faraway land called Tokyo." This seemed to unnerve the two of them.

"This broken blade belonged to the half-demon by the name of Inuyasha." That name got their eyes to widen, recalling it as the name of Moroha's Father which Naruto just looks down at the blade.

"They traveled the lands, slaying demons of all sorts…till their journey came to an end. Not much is known what had transpired but all that was left was this broken blade that was retrieved by our Samurai." His gaze turns to the one against the wall, gaining Naruto and Towa's attention as they look at the one who gives a wave. Towa just closes her eyes, sensing a Demon nearby. She looks at Naruto yet her eyes widen to see his eyes glued on the blade.

"Inuyasha's…dead…?" As he muttered those words, Towa just stares at him before she closed her eyes and focused, knowing she needs to deal with the demon that was behind them, hiding on the support beam which she did so by focusing her energy and firing it off which snapped Naruto out of it as he glanced at Towa who looked determined just as his eyes widen at sensing Moroha's spirit energy with the immediate execution of the Demon much to Towa's happiness and Naruto's amazement at her doing so while her arms are bound and weapons at their side.

With the back and forth having reached its peak, the Deputy finally brought up the main discussion.

"Now let's waste no more time, you must tell us how you came here." The two glance at the other. "I'm sure you must know, tell us what will to the Shogun, what is the fate of our clan." Despite his wishes to protect, he had no idea the ramifications it would cause.

"Your excellency, run away." That was all she said as shouting started to happen outside the room the two just look at the doorway the other three did the same, the samurai not even bothering to move but standing there.

"You'll get hurt if you stayed, times running out." All of a sudden a guard was kicked into the room, alerting the Deputy and Sōkyu who stand up in alert.

"STOP!"

"SHUT UP!"

Entering the room from the broken wall was Moroha and Setsuna, one of which was avoiding looking at Naruto a little which Towa picked up on, recalling the talk in the morning yet when she looked back at Naruto she saw he had torn the rope and was holding the broken sword in his hands.

"Anyways!" Moroha regained her composure and smiled at Towa. "Towa, we sensed your energy." Setsuna just looks away.

"You are a handful." That was all she said before severing the rope and freeing her arms much to her happiness as she stood up to look at them.

"Thanks, Setsuna, and you to Moroha." Her thanks we're met with Moroha's big smile yet her gaze turns back to Naruto, seeing him put Sō'unga back on while holding the weapons.

"I demand answers, who are you?!" Sōkyu shouts with clear anger.

"Well it's kind of a long story—" Moroha stops to sniff the air and smiles.

"I knew something smelled funny around here." She draws her blade directly at the old man. "So it's you, Yotsume!" Her words angered the man even more as she leaps towards him despite a warning from Setsuna and cuts off his hat to reveal another set of eyes much to the shock of the Deputy at a demon being in their midst.

"Oh shit!" Moroha was falling towards the demon after missing while Yotsume goes to attack only to disappear before his clothing was severed by Setsuna who strikes in one blow, watching as the demon turned into an owl that immediately flys out the opening.

"That's birding a sore loser!" Moroha said with chest glee.

"Moroha, wait." Her words confused the two girls. "He knows more about where me and Naruto came from, we need to capture him to make him take." With that said, the two immediately run out of the room but as they did so Setsuna glanced at Naruto to see he was putting the broken blade in their backpack with a somber expression which puzzled her yet she just focuses on the demon.

"Excellency," Towa called while picking up the book, looking at the man who hid behind the samurai.

"Y-Yes?"

"I'll be taking this, it is mine as well as that sword too since it doesn't belong to you either." That was all she said and starts to walk away with Naruto slinging the backpack over his shoulder before he follows suit as they sped up and ran out the opening in a hurry, puzzling the Deputy even more.

"Who exactly were those girls?" As he said that, he walks out from behind the Samurai and his gaze narrows on the Samurai.

"Tōsen, why did you not do anything?" His words got the Samurai to turn towards him yet silent. "We had intruded but you stood silently and watched, what would have happened if—" The Deputy froze as his eyes widen, he could only look down as the katana found its way buried in his chest. Slowly he looks up in confusion with a look that could only ask 'why' before the sword was pulled out of his chest and letting his body hit the floor, bleeding out as the Samurai starts to laugh to himself before reaching up and taking off the helmet. What is revealed is a man appearing to have an ordinary-looking face, nothing much to stand out but a few things. One was that he had a wicked smile glued to his face and the other…was the fact he had a stitched scar running horizontally through his forehead.

"Tokyo…huh… Half-Demon Princesses and that Boy…" His gaze moves towards the wall leading outside the room and around the corner stood a petrified Aiya, daughter of the Deputy. All she could do was look at her feet in terror and she shook as the man walks outlast of her, his gaze turning on her while she didn't make eye contact.

"Sorry for the mess, I'll spare only you since I got what I wanted." That was all he said as he starts walking but stops when he found one-by-one, guards arriving on the scene in a hurry with their weapons pointed at himself with others getting up after regaining consciousness.

"Why…WHY TŌSEN?!" As she demanded it, tears began falling from her eyes as a few stood in front of her protectively while a couple run the Deputy with the rest of the guards surrounding him, they were shouting at him to surrender and drop the weapon held in his hand.

"Oh…I forgot to say my name isn't Tōsen, it's Kenjaku. And I did tell you…" He looks at her with a cruel smile.

"I would spare only you." That was all he said as the girl witnessed nothing but horror for what came next.

NEXT TIME, WITH THE PERIL, COMES THE CURSED SPIRIT.
