Beca kept her distance from all the Bella's as much as she could. She needed to focus on creating mixes for the producer at her internship while working on the set list for the Bella's. She felt guilty every time she saw Chloe's disappointed gaze, but she didn't understand the pressure she was under, not even to mention the strain in her relationship with Jesse.

After hood night, things had started to become awkward between the two. They hadn't been doing their usual date nights due to Beca working so hard on her mash-ups or classwork. They would ride to Beca's internship in near silence, Jesse would not-so-subtly ask "How's Chloe?"

Beca would honestly say, "I dunno, we haven't been talking much. I've been so busy with work and our set list."

Then they would sit in silence again, the car ride would seem to take ages. When they finally approached the building, Beca would give him a quick peck on the lips before running inside quickly to avoid any more awkwardness.

After her internship, she would go to Bella's rehearsal. The girls were already starting without her. Chloe worked them through rigorous choreography. She insisted they step up their game if they wanted to beat Das Sound Machine. That meant focusing on their strengths, sexy dance moves paired with cool prop tricks. When Beca tried to argue that that wasn't really one of their strengths, Chloe countered that they needed to add some flare to their routines. "We can't beat them doing our usually sets. We need something that will make us stand out."

"Fire!" Fat Amy shouted, causing all of the girls to panic for a moment. "No, we should use fire! You know like sparklers and such. I learned how to do this cool fire eating trick from an aboriginal in Tasmania. It's aka-awesome. We need to use some fire in our performance."

Their practice that day consisted of hula-hooping, ribbon dancing, playing with fire, and learning sexy dance moves from Chloe. Beca would notice herself staring from time to time as she sat at her computer and tried to come up with something good enough for their set. Focus Mitchell. She needed to create something that could be paired with the insane choreography they were trying. Something that would put them on the same level of Das Sound Machine. Watching Chloe twerk was definitely giving her some inspiration. She could think of a song or two that would match the sexiness that Chloe was emanating. It was so hard to focus, with all of the crazy around her, and the nagging feeling that she would rather be working on her mix for her internship. Then, she felt guilty for thinking that. She knows she's letting everyone down no matter how hard she's working to balance it all. All the while not trying to blow her one chance at making an impression on her boss.

Chloe was wrapping up practice for the day. When the newbie, Emily, came over and started talking to Beca about tips. Beca knew the kid meant well, trying to make a good impression and what not, but she honestly didn't have the time to add another thing to her plate. She felt bad for blowing her off, but then knew it was the right decision when Chloe so kindly reminded her that she needed the arrangements ASAP.

"Awes," Chloe said leaving rehearsals for the day.

"Yeah, Awes," Beca replied, feeling like it was the furthest thing from being "awes." There was so much tension between the two of them, Beca knew something was going to have to give. She couldn't keep going at this pace, or she may internally combust.

Later that week, at her internship, Beca confronted her boss about the mix she had made, hoping for good feedback. To her dismay, he wasn't happy that she had given him more mashups. She felt like an utter failure. She had worked so hard to make it perfect, and it still wasn't good enough. She had a complete mental breakdown. She tried calling Jesse that night. He hadn't picked her up from the internship because of a class conflict, so she had to catch a ride from a co-worker. She needed to vent so bad, but he wasn't answering. As she was throwing herself a pity party, Amy walked in, and she tried to hide her frustration and tears. Amy, as always, was far too insightful and recognized there was something wrong. Amy revealed that she knew Beca was sneaking off to her internship…and apparently stealing money from her. It was a huge relief that she had someone else she could talk to. Amy also suggested telling the rest of the group, especially Chloe, about the internship, but Beca still wasn't ready for that conversation. Chloe was even worse than earlier in the year. Now that they had seen DSM in action multiple times, Chloe was even more obsessed about winning worlds. Chloe needed the Bella's to get reinstated. The Bella's were her life. Beca understood that, but she wanted more, she needed to be more than just a college acapella singer. After today, though, it felt as if her dreams of being a producer were slipping through her fingers. The conversation ended with Amy tackling Beca, trying to share her confidence, by wiping it from her armpits and butt. As gross as it was, she needed that reminder that she is "Beca f*ing Mitchell" as Amy had put it. She could do it, she just needed to keep at it.

The Convention performance was a complete disaster. Chloe was freaking the fuck out. Things hadn't been this bad since Aubrey vomited all over the audience at nationals her junior year. The girls were off key, the props were a mess, and they accidentally set CR on fire. Beca wouldn't even look her in the eye after the performance and demanded to drive the bus on the way back to campus. Good thing she had a back up plan!

"We're going on a retreat!" Chloe announced as the bus pulled out of the convention center. The Bella's were falling apart. To make it worse, Chloe could feel like something was up with Beca. She was even more distant than usual. She disappears for hours at a time, her arrangements were not up to par, she was definitely hiding something, and Chloe was going to get to the bottom of it. A retreat meant time together 24/7. No distractions from school, practice, and no Jesse, Chloe smiled to herself.

When she had called Aubrey earlier in the week, it had been her suggestion to bring the girls out to her camp. She was used to working with big corporations, but it sounded like the Bellas needed to be whipped into shape. If anyone could do it, it would be Aubrey. Then there was the whole Chloe-Beca dynamic that she never understood. Aubrey was sick of listening to Chloe crying to her on the phone, but tried her best to be a supportive friend. She was the only one who knew the truth about Chloe's constant failure of Russian Lit and her return to the Bella's for an extra four years of college. Poor Chloe, it sounded kinda desperate actually, but not her life. Aubrey told her on the phone to just put herself out there once and for all, if it wasn't meant to be, it was time to move on.

What a total shit show. Just like everything else right now in Beca's life. She demanded to drive the bus back to campus after the convention performance, mostly so no one would see her crying. Not only had their theatrics been way too much, they didn't even sound good, which she could only blame herself for. They had no chance at winning worlds with a performance like that. They'd probably be laughed off the stage by the other countries. At least Chloe was smoking hot. The red head's dance moves had almost thrown Beca off because she was staring so much. Sweat dripping down your chest, was on repeat in her head. Chloe had looked and sounded amazing as always, yet, it was still a disaster. All of their hard work and effort over the last couple of weeks seemed like a complete waste now. That performance was the worst that Beca could remember in her four years as a Bella…well except for one.

The 2013 national championship tour had been a great bonding experience for the Bella's. Even Aubrey came back for one last hurrah since she had graduated the previous spring. The victory tour was 8 cities in fourteen days, luckily the girls were granted special permission by the Dean of Students, as national champions, to do their classes virtually. The tour started in Charleston, South Carolina then on to Chattanooga, Tennessee, Little Rock, Arkansas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Topka, Kansas, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and ending in Cincinnati, Ohio. They performed their same set that won them their national title, so the girls had it down pat, which was a good thing because they were doing a performance a day, besides the weekends. The performances were held at local shopping malls, during the day, in September, so the audiences usually consisted of elderly patron mall walkers. The girls didn't mind though, they were doing what they loved, and they were doing it together. The new girl Flo was used as an alternate since she technically wasn't on the championship team, but Aubrey surprised everyone when she would occasionally opt out of a performance in lieu of the newest Bella. Aubrey said it was to help them find their sound as a new group, Beca actually thought the was aca-awesome of Aubrey but would never use those words out loud, ever, to anyone.

The girls, having to put on a show daily, were stressed by the constant pressure, but loved the thrill of performing. Well, everyone except Aubrey. She never told anyone how much she hated performing live. She was a perfectionist, by nature, so any little hiccup would throw her body into panic mode. Hence the puking episode at nationals in her junior year. Any chance she got, on the victory tour, she would "graciously" hand over her part to Flo. The other girls assumed she was being a good captain and role model, and she was going to let them assume that.

The day of the Tulsa show, Flow was going to take Aubrey's solo, that had been the plan. However, when she woke up that morning, Flo had a terrible cold. She had a cough so bad there was no chance of her singing. Aubrey would have to perform. She put on a smile to fool the others, but inside, she was a wreck.

When they got to the Tulsa shopping center that day for the performance, they had more than their usually elderly crowd. An entire bus full of what appeared to be middle school aged students arrived shortly after Fat Amy parked their bus. Middle Schoolers were the hardest audience to please. So moody and too cool for anything that was actually cool. An acapella performance was ground zero for their taunting and heckling.

"It's probably fine," Beca had said. "They'll be so busy buying frappuccinos at the coffee shop and playing games at the arcade, they won't want to sit and watch some acapella performance."

Oh, was she wrong. The Bella's were a group of attractive college students and they were 12-13 year old's. Seeing them in the crowd made Aubrey start to hyperventilate. On stage, she tried her best to just focus on her moves and lyrics, but they started booing and taunting them. Her nerves were so worked up that it happened again. She vomited so bad, it soaked the first row containing the middle school principal and several teachers. The crowd erupted in cheers for the first time since they took the stage. Beca had never experienced Aubrey's projectile vomit first hand, and she never wanted to see it again. It was literally the grossest thing she had ever witnessed. In Beca's mind, it went down as the worst performance she experienced in her time as a Bella. The incident was all over social media, Aubrey had even become a trending meme for several weeks post tour. She ended up leaving halfway through the tour stating that she needed to get back to working at her new job, they were short staffed and needed her to return early.

The sudden departure of Aubrey left Chloe feeling abandoned. They had been rooming together on the tour, but now she was alone. Aubrey had been keeping Chloe in check when it came to Beca. She had first recognized the red head's "toner" for Beca the previous year. She wasn't sure at first why Chloe was so adamant about the "alt." girl joining their group, constantly nagging at her to give her a solo, or give her a break, and to not be so hard on her at practice. Beca had a major attitude problem, in Aubrey's eyes, and didn't understand why Chloe was pushing so hard for her to be in the group when it seemed like Beca didn't even care to be there in the first place. Then, she started picking up on the signals. During practice Chloe would try to guide Beca through choreography, which would be normal as their choreographer, but she was definitely more touchy feely with Beca than the other girls. Aubrey also started to pick up on the glances the two gave each other during practice, you could cut the sexual tension with a knife. She couldn't be the only one who could feel it. After they had initially lost to the Footnotes, and they season was over, Aubrey thought she had been rid of Beca from her life, but when they found out that the Footnotes had been disqualified for cheating, the Bellas were back and Chloe brought Beca back too. After they had a little "kumbaya" moment at rehearsal, Aubrey admitted to Chloe that she didn't think Beca was so bad after all. ,

Later that night, Beca had gathered them in the old pool to work on a new sound for the Bella's. The mashup of Just The Way You Are and Just A Dream was so beautiful, Aubrey hated to admit it, but Beca had a good ear for arrangements after all. She couldn't help but notice the connection between Chloe and Beca as they sang, it was almost like they were singing only to each other. Chloe's eyes had not left Beca the whole time she sang. Aubrey decided to finally confront Chloe after the rest of the Bellas left. Chloe admitted her crush on Beca to Aubrey, even telling her about their special shower moment. That had been it for Chloe, she was obsessed ever since. Aubrey told her to do something about it then. The way Beca had just been singing to Chloe, Aubrey was confident there were some feelings from both sides. Chloe was going to tell Beca how she felt after the national competition.

The girls had killed it at nationals and become the first ever all female group to win. In the spirit of girl power, and girl crushes, Chloe rushed off the stage after Beca to tell her that she had feelings for her. Chloe felt like she was punched in the gut as she watched Beca push her way through a row of people to Jesse and kiss him. She felt a hand on her arm, "oh Chloe," Abrey pulled her into a hug, and Chloe cried for a good 15 minutes. On the bus ride back to campus, Chloe resolved to be just friends with Beca, she would have to get over her. Beca had chosen Jesse. Aubrey supported her the best way she knew how, introduced her to some new guys, and spent the summer in Tampa keeping Chloe's mind off of Beca.

When Aubrey found out that Chloe was returning for another year at Barden, she immediately became suspicious. "I thought you were over her Chloe," Aubrey had said on the phone the day after hood night 2013.

"We're just friends Aubs," was Chloe's response.

"Yeah, who just so happened to share the same bed last night."

"Nothing happened."

"Yet. Just know that I do not approve of whatever this plan is. I am coming on the victory tour to make sure you don't do anything you'll regret. She's with Jesse. You're going to get heartbroken again. Then, I'll get to say 'I told you so'."

While on the tour, Aubrey would block Chloe's chance to hang out with or even talk to Beca privately. Now with Aubrey gone, Chloe was back in the game! She would win Mitchell's heart, one way or another.
