The whole next day was filled with team building activities. Ropes, slides, mudpits, a lake, it was all miserable for Beca. Chloe was a bit distant that usual that morning, but after the first round, the girls had no choice but to get up close and personal. Almost every activity Aubrey had planned required close contact. Everything was so physical. Despite their awkwardness from last nights' exchange, Beca was glad for the opportunity to try and sort out her newly discovered feelings. However, this caused her to stress out even more, she was more distracted, and now she had guilt too. Ugh!
After a rigorous morning, Aubrey instructed them through vocal practice, choosing songs, in Beca's eyes, that were a very odd assortment and nothing they'd ever use in their set. Finally, she reached her breaking point!
"I've got more important things to do," she snapped at Chloe. The rest of the argument was kind of a blur to Beca. Amy let the cat out of the bag about her internship and she called them "Bhloe," Beca made a mental note to sort that one out later. She yelled at Chloe, they'd never fought before, she told it to her like it was, that she's too scared to graduate and leave the Bellas. Well she wasn't going to waste another minute with them.
"You're just going to leave now," Cloe called after her.
She yelled back, "We all have to eventually, Chloe, it might as well be now," she stormed off in the opposite direction, not even caring where she was going. She just had to get away, from the Bellas, from Chloe, from her feelings. She was fuming. She didn't see the sign or hear the girls yelling for her to look out! She stepped right into a bear trap.
This is it, I'm dying, I'm dead. She may have said that bit out loud, but it was hard to be sure whilst dangangling 1,000 feet in the air. Her heart was racing but she did catch a snide comment from Chloe and caught a pretty smug look on her face while she yelled for help…and Aubrey's too. Rude. Beca was legitimately terrified of heights and falling from so far up that all of her emotions started to swell. Soon, she was crying and begging for the Bella's forgiveness, admitting that she's been so stressed out. She was sorry for not telling them sooner about the internship.
After being cut down, Aubrey led the group to the fire pit. They roasted marshmallows while Beca shared what it had been like for her at the internship. As the girls all opened up, Beca was suddenly hit with inspiration. Legacy was a songwriter and she needed original music for her boss. The answer had been right in front of her all along. Emily was more than thrilled, Beca almost regretted asking her to collaborate seeing how much the Freshman geeked out. She reminded herself, Emily was trying to prove herself as a singer just like she was trying to prove herself as a music producer.
More of the girls shared their life plans after college. It was starting to sink in. Their little family was going in different directions. It hit Beca hard, she knew it was coming and was ready to take the next step in her career, but it was going to be a lot harder without these girls there for her every day. Especially that lovable redhead who just caught her eye again. That's when Chloe started singing her song, it was sad and soft, not like Beca had sung it at auditions, but with meaning. Soon, they would all be gone, and she would miss them.
Their eyes locked as they sang. Chloe's eyes were sparkling with tears that were dangerously close to spilling over. She was singing more than goodbye to Beca, she could feel it. Beca glanced around at the rest of the group as they all joined in. She really was going to miss this, but Chloe most of all. As they finished, she couldn't help but throw Chloe a look, flirtatious and questioning,a look Chloe had never seen from Beca before. Chloe smiled back at her. Stacy, catching the exchange, bit her lip out of joy.
The Bellas hung out, as a group, for a few minutes longer while Amy went on a tangent about her extravagant dreams after college. During her rant she realized that she was in love with bumper and took off after him in the night, straight into a bear trap. After freeing Amy, the girls slowly headed back to the tent, exhausted from the day. Until only Aubrey, Chloe, and Beca were left by the fire. They sat in silence for about two minutes gazing out at the lake in the moonlight.
"It really is beautiful," Beca broke the silence, seeing Chloe gazing out across the water, but not looking at it herself.
"Well," Aubrey slapped her thighs, standing up. "I've got an early morning tomorrow, seeing you off and then welcoming a new group."
"Thanks Aubrey, for everything." Chloe said, giving her a warm smile. Aubrey returned the smile back and headed off to the councilors cabin, but not quite before yelling back, "goodnight you two," in a sing-songy voice.
Beca and Chloe sat again in silence for a few minutes until Beca stood suddenly. "I need a shower." It came out almost as a whisper. It's now or never. I've got to give her the full college experience before we're gone.
" I can't believe the girls went to bed smelling like lake and campfire," She added a little more loudly. Then, she quickly turned on her heel, threw Chloe a seductive look, and began humming 'Titanium' as she sauntered towards the camp showers.
