It took almost a month for Alora to be able to cross the room and another to go down to the dinning hall to eat meals. Not wanting to talk to people she usually stayed by herself with the overwhelming cold. There was sense that part of Efan was still with her, even if it was a crazy notion.
Four months after she first woke Alora had finished checking the battlements and returned to her chamber to sit on her side of the bed. There had been comments about how she smelled since she had stopped taking care of herself, so she took the jug of water to the fireplace to warm it up. As if warmed she locked the door before starting to remove her clothing to change to a different set than the two she went between.
Not wanting to wear a dress she pulled out Efan's spare set of clothes, the ones he wore for their wedding and set them aside for after she was clean. She had tried not to look at her upper body ever since she had lost her child, and wiped it off more by feel than anything else. Closing her eyes she readied herself before looking to see if there was any more dirt there.
More of Alora's bones were showing than usual, and there was some sagging skin she still hadn't fully worked off thanks to the eight days in her bed. Then she saw the blue knife wound in her left breast. It was cold to the touch and where her bone deep chill always came from. Quickly pulling on her shirt she ran out of the room yelling, "Laloren!"
Running into her, "What is it honey?" Laloren looked terrified as Alora grabbed her hand and pulled her into a different room and locked the door. Demanding to know, "Has something happened?"
Not looking at her, "Nothing has happened today, except I put something together." Alora could hear Laloren shift, "When I lost my child," choking slightly and her older sister came forward to rub her back, "just before I was frozen with cold. I have been bone cold ever since," turning to Laloren, "I don't understand what this is." Then she undid the shirt to show her breast with the blue knife mark.
Laloren reached out and touched it before pulling back with a cry, "Its freezing!"
Alora nodded, "And that's where my feeling of cold comes from." Swallowing before speaking again, "Could this be some form of magic?"
Shaking her head the older woman spoke, "I don't know." Then she took Alora's hands, "You are cold, far colder than you used to be." Chewing her lower lip, "We have to talk to Brandon, he'll know who we can consult."
Alora nodded, "Alright." Swallowing, "Should we keep it a secret otherwise."
Putting her hands on Alora's shoulders, "Yes. You are a leader here, and if someone has cursed you we need to know how to fix it before anyone else finds out about it." Then Laloren hugged Alora to apologize for so many things. Together they left to find Brandon and (hopefully) Codin to make a plan.
