Lee and Amanda drove to his apartment so they could change and have a little rest before heading back to Amanda's.
Amanda walked in the apartment and promptly sat down on the couch, letting out a heavy sigh as she did so.
Lee sat in the chair closest to her.
"Penny for your thoughts" he said in his best soothing, velvety tone. "You barely said 2 words all the way back here."
Amanda grabbed his hand and looked at him, a soft smile forming on her face.
"I'm ok. I knew that there was a possibility of things getting dangerous today, but for a minute, I really thought that my time was up."
Amanda sat pensively for a moment as she held on tightly to Lee.
"You know when someone says that their life flashed before their eyes? Well, that actually started to happen to me. And in those flashes, I saw Philip and Jamie, Mother….and of course, you and all our happy times together. And in that moment, I wanted nothing more than to be with you again, and I thought…."
Amanda began to get choked up. Lee swiftly moved next to her on the couch.
"Hey, hey. It's ok" he said as he put his arm around her.
Amanda wiped the tears from her eyes, swallowed hard, and took in a deep breath.
"I know" she said. "It was just a strange experience. You always hear about something like that, but this was the first time I experienced it. I realized in that moment all the things that I wanted, and that there are so many things that I haven't done…..WE haven't done."
Lee leaned back with Amanda on the couch and kissed the top of her head.
"Thankfully, we have time, Amanda. I have had those life flashes more than a few times. It messes with your head for a little while, but you settle back into the regular day soon enough. What do you say I make us some lunch, and maybe a glass of wine?" Lee said.
"I think I would like to take a shower and rest for a bit first" Amanda replied. "Besides, I haven't gone shopping in a while. What is in the house for lunch?"
Lee smiled.
"Oh, you know….probably crackers and moldy cheese."
Amanda chuckled.
"Well, I think I will pass on the lunch, but a glass of wine might be good after my shower."
"Red or white?"
"Surprise me!"
Amanda stood up and looked down at Lee. She loved him so much in that moment. He grabbed her hand and placed a soft kiss on her palm. She smiled and closed her fingers holding the kiss tightly in her hand.
"Ok, see you in a bit" she said as she headed to the bathroom.
