The next Saturday Jade found herself watching Ryder's football game. So far she had only watched professional games on TV, but seeing that Ryder agreed to take part in the dance contest with her it was only fair that she supported him with something that was important to him. Little did she know that she wasn't the only one who came to her school's football game for the first time. Unknown to her, Tori and Andre would perform in the half time. It was a last minute change and even the two had been told on short notice. However despite that, Beck, Robbie and Cat sat in the audience to see their performance later.

While Jade didn't realize at all that her friends and ex-boyfriend were there, Beck immediately saw her. He knew about the upcoming dance contest in which Jade and Ryder would take part in, after all a few months ago when they had still been a couple they had planned to participate together. It hurt Beck when he thought about Jade spending even more time with Ryder and seeing her now watching his game made his heart squeeze painfully. Since their fight during lunch, after Jade had chosen Ryder over him, they had barely talked and Beck missed her more with each day.

Jade was surprised when Tori and Andre sang a few songs during the half time, but she still didn't consider that Beck could be here as well. After the game Jade went to the field and waited for Ryder to come out. They had agreed that they would practice later when he had relaxed a little bit. It was only when Cat and the others approached her that she realized that Tori and Andre weren't the only ones that were here from the group.

"Hey Jadey, how did you know Tori and Andre would sing today?"

"I didn't." Was Jade's short reply to her best friend.

"But then why are you here?" Robbie asked.

"That's easy. She came to see me." Ryder came up behind Jade and lay an arm around her, which she immediately removed.

"Don't be such an arrogant jerk, Daniels." Despite her words she smirked slightly and Ryder didn't seem offended by her choice of words.

"There he is." Cat suddenly said. "I want you to meet this new guy I met in the half time. He is really nice and tall and I think he plays football too." With that she quickly grasped Tori and Jade's wrists to drag them over to the guy she had just pointed at.

Despite that Jade rolled her eyes, she followed her best friend. Ryder had probably still a few things to discuss with his coach and teammates after their victory, so she had a little bit of time left before they could start their practice.

The way Ryder looked after Jade didn't sit well with Beck. There was no doubt that Ryder was interested in Jade and Beck couldn't stand it. The jealousy that was now always present when he saw them together flamed up more than ever and Ryder's next words only fueled it.

"You are an idiot for letting her go, Oliver."

"That's rich coming from you. You used a lot of girls for grades and now you want to tell me that I'm in the wrong." Sure, Beck knew that he had made a mistake when he had let Jade walk out the door, but he wasn't going to admit that to someone like Ryder Daniels.

"Jade is different. If I had met her before you, I would have never used any of these girls, because we would have become a couple in no time." At Ryder's words Beck began to feel jealousy gripping his heart tighter and it got even worse when Ryder continued. "She is an amazing girl and unbelievably beautiful. It isn't hard to see her great character when you get to know her and she is special. You lost your chance and now I have mine and let me tell you one thing. I would never treat her the way you did. I would make her feel loved and tell her every day how amazing she is. I would never flirt with other girls if I had her as my girlfriend."

"I didn't flirt with other girls." Beck was barely holding his anger back. "She is too good for you, so don't even think about it."

"Isn't it more like you were never really good enough for her?" Ryder smirked. "A girl like Jade needs a real man and not a pretty boy like you."

"I'll show you what this pretty boy can do." The thought of Jade and Ryder together was unbearable for Beck and Ryder's words were like he had stabbed him in the heart with one of Jade's beloved scissors.

"You don't stand a chance against me, Oliver. My whole team is just standing a few feet away and the only ones on your side are a nerd and a musician who wouldn't dare hurt his fingers." Ryder looked arrogantly at Robbie and Andre. "Now if you'll excuse me. I have to take a beautiful girl out for a coffee and then spend the rest of my day dancing closely with her."

Andre watched his best friend, who had clenched his fists, carefully and looked after Ryder, who was approaching Jade now. Never before had he seen Beck so angry and they were already best friends for a few years. Ryder really knew how to get a rise out of people and Jade was a sore spot for Beck anyway. Seeing his best friend react like this only confirmed Andre's suspicion that Beck was still deeply in love with Jade. Considering that, Andre could only hope that Beck would tell his ex-girlfriend that and that she would forgive him and take him back, because seeing Beck like this Andre doubted that Beck without Jade was still the laid-back guy they all knew.

True to his word Ryder invited Jade to a coffee and never one to deny coffee Jade agreed, however not before making clear that this wasn't a date. Ryder only nodded amused and the two sat down in a small cafe near by.

"You know, your ex-boyfriend is jealous of me." Ryder told her when they both drank their coffee.

"I'll only believe it when I see it."

"So you want proof?" When Jade nodded he continued. "And here I thought you trust me."

"I trust you to not drop me when we dance because you know the consequences, but when you tell me that Beck, a guy who never showed any sign of jealousy during our three year long relationship, is jealous that's hard to believe."

"Alright, but it still stands that you won't hurt me with your scissors for what I have to do in order to prove to you that he is indeed jealous."

"I only said that I would humor you, so think twice about whatever you're planning."

In the evening when Ryder dropped her off at her house Jade had to admit that spending her day with Ryder hadn't been all that bad. After they had finished their coffee they had practiced their dance for the contest next week and now she felt like they could actually win it. The days following Sunday Jade didn't think more about Ryder wanting to prove to her that Beck still cared, because she was only focused on perfecting their dance for Saturday. However little did she know that this Saturday would change her look on a few things.

Jade wasn't surprised when she saw that Cat had dragged everyone from the group with her to the dance contest to support her best friend. However seeing Beck so tense was definitely new and she began to think that maybe Ryder wasn't so wrong about Beck learning what jealousy meant. Speaking of Ryder, he didn't leave her side even when she talked to her friends and it might be her imagination, but she thought that she saw Ryder sending Beck a triumphal and arrogant smirk. Jade shook her head, she would never understand guys and their silent conversations.

It turned out that their competition wasn't that strong. Jade thought that they had done a great job, especially considering that they were only dancing partners for a little over a month now, so she wasn't worry about the outcome of the contest. In the end they really won and Jade even accepted the embrace Ryder offered her, but what he whispered into her ear when they hugged on stage surprised her.

"Here comes the proof I own you."

When he pulled away a little after that Jade looked confused at him, but then he suddenly closed the distance between their lips. It took Jade a moment to realize that Ryder was kissing her on a stage, where they had just been announced the winners of the dance contest with all her friends and ex-boyfriend in the audience. What would a kiss prove? Despite that she was sure that Ryder was imagining that Beck could ever get jealous, she had told Ryder she would humor him, so she returned the kiss. It felt more like a stage kiss than a real one and Jade was sure no one would be fooled by it. However that was where she was completely wrong.

When they pulled away the host didn't seem affected, probably thinking that they were a couple and not just dancing partners, and just gave them a small trophy. However the moment they went off stage Beck went over to them, an expression on his face that Jade had never seen before.

"So that's how you want to announce your new boyfriend." Beck almost spat.

"What is it to you?" Her voice rose with her anger.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"It's none of your business." By now she was screaming.

"It is my business."

"I'm not your girlfriend anymore. Why do you care?"

"Because I love you." He screamed just as loud as she had screamed her words.

"What?" Now Jade's voice was almost a whisper, such a contrast to their screaming match from before.

Beck nervously ran a hand through his hair. He hadn't meant to tell her that. Sure, it was true, but he didn't want them to discuss this here in front of all these people. Since their break up he missed her every day and wanted her back, but he knew she wouldn't give him a second chance. However now that he had told her, he at least wanted her to know that it was true.

"I love you. I never stopped and I probably never will. I'm sorry for not opening that door, it was a mistake. I know you can't forgive me right now, but please think about giving us a second chance."

Seeing a combination of pain and love in Beck's eyes and hearing with how much honesty he said those words made Jade consider what he had said. He was right, it would take time for her to forgive him, but she couldn't deny that she still loved him as well. They had to talk about a few things and work on them before they could make a second chance work, but he seemed willing to do that and if she was honest with herself so was she.

"Let's talk over a coffee. You pay."

"Of course." Beck smiled at her, his eyes shining with true happiness for the first time since their break up.

"Just give me a minute with Daniels here." Beck looked hesitant, but then nodded and went over to the rest of their friends. However Ryder could see that Beck kept an eye on him and Jade to make sure he wouldn't get too close to Jade.

"So I have to admit that you were right. Do I have to worry about you falling in love with me now?"

"It was a win-win situation for both of us, I got to kiss a beautiful girl and you got Beck jealous, so no hard feelings." Ryder smirked at her.

"Maybe I have to thank you for that later."

"If the look on your ex-boyfriend's face is any indication that will be sooner than later."

"Don't count on it. I'm not known for thanking people." Jade smirked at him, before it turned into a gentle smile. "Seriously, I think you're alright, Daniels."

"That compliment I can only return, West."

When a few days later Ryder saw Beck buying Jade a coffee and them sitting together at lunch without their friends, he thought that maybe for once he did the right thing. He meant what he had said, Jade was a great girl and if she had been his girlfriend he would have cherished her and would never have treated her like all the other girls he had dated briefly. However that Beck and Jade deeply loved each other was obvious and who was he to come between them? Ryder could only hope that somewhere out there was a girl who would make him as happy as Beck and Jade were with each other.
