29: You Be the Lamb & We'll Be the Slaughter.
"How do you know Lily Salvatore?" Claudia questioned Alina while Valora zipped the back of her new dress.
Alina was brushing her long hair while sitting at a vanity when she suddenly stopped. "Lily Salvatore is a liar and a traitor to her family. Stefan and Damon were children when she died of consumption in 1858. A nurse turned her and she fled to Europe where she became a Ripper. The second she stepped foot near Romania we knew who she was."
"I still don't understand what the problem is I guess."
"Lily had threatened Nova's life," Valora explained. "She demanded asylum in Bucharest or she would return to the states where Nova had settled in with Lily's former family. Even old, decrepit, and compelled could no one threaten the safety of Alina's daughters."
"Let me get my hands on Niklaus Mikaelson and that Moroi for what they did to Zina," Alina hissed.
"You didn't hear?" The blue eyed Vasile questioned. "Katia took care of him the moment she came of age. It was quite beautiful."
"Maybe I'm just more lost since Remiel had me locked in a well from the moment I turned," came Claudia with deep confusion on her face, "but how would you know any of this? Were you not dead long before I?"
Valora smiled. "I've always been a tad bit… special, I suppose? Being on the Other Side only enhanced my abilities. I might be the only one of us who has been able to see all and retain all. It's quite horrifying, really. Any more questions, Claudia?"
"Yes, actually. Why are we here? The Other Side collapsed; shouldn't we be wiped from existence?"
"Prison worlds are for some bloody bad power. I read about them once or twice, but it was all theories from various witches. No one really ever tried it."
"Well, someone did," came Alina as she stood. "As for why we're here, look at our lives, child. We are Vasiles. Whether we know it about ourselves or not yet, we are monsters. Monsters with dangerous power and magic."
"No."
Nova let out a childish groan. "Come on, Sofia! You and Freya could totally figure it out!"
"I can figure out most anything and I do it without working in the company of others. This, Nova, is asinine. The Gemini Coven created that Prison World for Kai for a reason."
"Yeah, and he can stay there. We just need to get Damon and Bonnie and then we can slap a couple of extra locks on the door. I know he's alive somewhere now, Sofia. If you won't do it then I'll find a different way. I'm not giving this up until I have Damon back. I don't care what it takes."
Eventually the Russian vampire sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. She knew Nova was telling the truth; she would do anything in the universe to bring back the one she loved. "Fine. Bring me to this Freya Mikaelson then."
Not a damn one of them expected Sofia's or Freya's reactions upon meeting one another. The raven haired Russian knew exactly what the feeling was and went on a cursing spree in her native tongue in her thoughts. She was perfectly content going through her miserable life alone. She managed to avoid coming across her eternal mate so well for so long. What were the fucking chances that the Mikaelson family had a mystery sibling paired for her?
"Is there a problem, ladies?" Klaus broke the silence.
Nova knew the look in her relative's eyes. She could feel the sudden imbalance of emotions spearing off the other vampire. Her emerald eyes moved slowly onto Freya; the blonde looked confused and flustered. Of course she wouldn't know. "We Vasiles each have someone we are meant to be bonded to for our eternal lives," she spilled the beans. Sofia immediately cut her eyes at the Romanian who merely shrugged. "No, Sofia, you don't get to be afraid anymore. We're stronger together."
"She is right," came Daciana as she leaned in a doorway. "It's why I stay here with the big dumbass over there." She nodded towards Klaus with a smirk. "It's why Nova was able to reach Damon and won't stop until he is returned to her. It's even why Kol was quite fond of Carina."
The youngest Mikaelson's head poked up suddenly. "What about Carina? Is she still alive? I never saw her on the Other Side."
"See?" She smiled at Sofia before turning back to her brother with a serious expression. "Carina was quite broken the day you died, as Nova was Damon." Kol and Nova exchanged glares. "She's always had a bit of an attitude problem, but…"
"But what, sister?"
"Rumor has it Remiel finally outlived Runa and has Carina for a vessel now."
Nova's hands slapped her face and dragged down as she let out a dramatic groan. "You're fucking kidding me."
Daciana shook her head. "Unfortunately I am not. And there is more."
"What more could there possibly be?" asked Rebekah.
"Zarya… the Mark of Cain was removed by magic which released the Darkness and killed her. At the time of her death," her emerald eyes turned to Nova, "Lucifer was dragging you back as the Other Side collapsed."
Lethia let out a gasp as her hand flew to her mouth. "Did she… did she turn?"
Daciana nodded. "Katia and Zarya are the only known two dhampirs to walk the Earth currently. On top of that, Saskia's death has released the Night Creatures and an influx of residual Black Magic."
Nova's brows furrowed. "No, they're not. Clara made it through before the collapse. She's somewhere on this planet."
"Then you need to find her," Sofia finally spoke. "Katia has always been able to protect and hide herself, and Zarya is with the Winchesters; Clara has been abused and in captivity her whole life. She could be easily manipulated or killed if she doesn't snap and kill herself."
"That tiny, timid thing?" Nova made a face.
"'That tiny, timid thing' is both a dhampir and a Cursed Twin. She is sister to Natalia who frequently harassed and abused her sister. Only on a few rare occasions did Clara lash back and it would frighten Natalia badly enough to leave her sister alone for a month or two. One day they were going at it so badly that Natalia actually pushed her sister into a river where she hit her head on a rock and never came back up. Natalia fled to America and when Clara woke up as a dhampir she was taken by Augustine. Does that sound like someone you want roaming about unattended?"
Everyone was silent for a good couple of minutes, then Freya cleared her throat. "I- uh- I'll get a locator spell going on Clara quick."
Clara had tried to ignore the vehicle approaching her until they actually pulled right in front of her. She was still learning about modern human things but knew the vehicle was called a 'truck'. The driver's window rolled down to reveal a young woman; her hair looked like a brown to blonde ombre that had been growing out, and her eyes were a pretty shade of blue coated in thick, black makeup. "You need a ride, kid?"
The raven haired dhampir tried to avoid eye contact. Something about the woman's scent was throwing her off. "N-no, thank you."
She chuckled. "Afraid of strangers or something? Can't say I blame ya - humans are pretty raunchy these days."
Slowly, her dark eyes met the stranger's. "Humans?"
Her eyes flashed black with a smirk. "You're a Vasile, ain't ya? I hear you ladies are becoming more popular and attracting a lot of trouble these days. Name's Meg. Get in if you value your life or keep walking if you don't." She shrugged.
Clara hesitated for only a moment before walking around to the passenger's side and getting in the vehicle. After a few minutes of driving in silence she finally spoke. "My name is Clara. How do you know of us? Why do you help me?"
Meg nodded slowly with understanding. "So you're one of the last dhampirs. Cool. The guy that created me - and demons in general - is like, kind of obsessed with a relative of yours. He says you guys are to be allies and comrades." She shrugged. "A lot of important people think I'm dead too." She tossed a smirk to the dhampir. "Stick with me and you'll be totally under the radar."
Clara was unusually calm with Meg. She enjoyed the demon's presence already. "How can I trust what you say though?"
"Well, at least you're kind of with it. Look, I highly value my life. My boss says watch your back and I live and it's what I'm gonna do. And I guess," she stressed the word, "you Vasiles are kinda badass."
"Who is your 'boss'? Why does he care so deeply?"
"Damn girl, how much are you even caught up on?"
"Forgive me," she muttered as her gaze turned to the window. "Since the moment I turned I have been in the captivity of Augustine and then Remiel until my death."
"Ouch. Alright, gotcha. You're good with me - we're Team Lucifer around here. He's got the hots for Zarya and you all amuse the fuck out of me. Welcome to the party, Clara."
"Okay… so where are we going, Meg?"
The demon's lips curled upwards when the dhampir spoke her name. It was kind of nice. "First we gotta get you some new clothes; it's 2012, kid. Then we go greet the boss."
Clara's eyes widened a little. "Lucifer?"
Meg grinned at her. "The one and only."
"What a brave little thing you're becoming, Zina."
She kept her lips in a tight line as she stared the archangel down in her spell circle. "I know it's you dicking with Sam Winchester. Why?"
Lucifer chuckled. "Can't say I'm surprised Sammy sought out the psychic. Though I'm guessing you didn't tell him much."
"Because, quite frankly, I didn't know enough to tell him anything. Why are you making him think God of all creatures is reaching out to him?"
"Who wouldn't want to listen to Daddy dearest?" He snickered. "Ah, it seems someone else is here to join this call." With a snap of his fingers another spell circle merged.
"Clara?!" The Romanian vampire exclaimed when she saw the two women appear. "What the hell is going on?!"
"Clara is safe from harm; you know I wouldn't lie, don't you, Zina?" He gave a smirk to the vampire. "My sister is making her move and Rya is in danger. So I'm pulling all of my cards out now. Sam Winchester is going to seek me out and one way or another I'm going to be freed. The eternal survival of the Vasile line is based around Rya and I. Believe it or not, I don't wish to see Remiel smite each of you individually."
"Once you're under, you'll have exactly thirty minutes before you're forced out and revived for the final time." Sofia told Nova sternly. "If you don't have Damon and Bonnie in hand before then, then it's over."
The Romanian stared at the lake with an unreadable expression. She'd never realized it before, but since her death she unintentionally avoided being under water as best as she could. Even in pools she might sit in the shallow section, but nothing past her chest. And gods forbid if her hair got wet. The light of the moon reflected off the gentle ripples against her emerald irises. Still, she did not move after several minutes.
Suddenly, Nova was thrust off of the pier with a loud shriek. Rebekah shouted Kol's name in exclaimatation when she saw it was his foot to kick the Romanian. He shrugged, and Nova landed with a splash in the cold lake. On instinct she struggled which only pulled her harder to the bottom. Panic set in as her lungs filled with water. Though she couldn't see it, her makeup was actually smearing and wearing away the deeper she sank. Nova didn't know how long it took for her to finally die, but she felt a sharp shock as her body wanted to revive and drown again but Sofia's spell would prevent it temporarily. So she floated along the bottom of the lake suspended in death.
"Here's the thing: I have a killer effect on magic. I can't generate it myself," Kai told Bonnie and Damon, "but I can consume it from others temporarily. My family called me an abomination. That hurt my feelings." In a quick movement he snatched up Bonnie's wrist and started siphoning her magic from her.
Kai launched suddenly away from them both and into the kitchen island. A loud smack of a boot hitting the floor followed. In the doorway stood a dripping wet Nova, her makeup mostly gone and what was left was dripping down her pale cheeks. "Try again, psychopath."
Kai coughed a few times as he pulled himself up. "You again. Bonnie and Damon refused to tell me who you are."
"Good. I introduce my damn self." She smirked. "Name's Nova Vasile. I don't care if any of my relatives have somehow crossed paths with your family, and I don't care what happened to cause this." She gestured to the prison world. "You're in eternal time out and we are the fuck out of here."
Nova stepped forward hurriedly to grab hold of first Bonnie, but when she reached for Damon, Kai jerked him back. He grabbed Nova's wrist in an attempt to siphon from her, but nothing happened. Nova raised her brows before smirking. She let go of Bonnie's hand to punch Kai in the nose. With his grip still around her other wrist, it pulled her backward as he fell, crashing into Damon. There was a loud crack of thunder, and all three were gone.
Bonnie's jaw dropped slowly as she came to the realization that she was left entirely alone in a 1994 magic prison world.
Vespera's feet glided across the vastness of Oblivion as they always did. She had been searching for something. When the Other Side crumbled, and when Amara was released, something broke through Oblivion. She felt it pierce through her own flesh, yet she had no idea where the thing was.
She found herself growing tired. Not just of endlessly searching, but in general. She hated her siblings, each and every one of them, for the madness they caused. Truthfully, she loathed each of them the moment they became sentient beings.
Vespera couldn't believe her eyes when she finally found the mystery she had been searching for. It was a magnificent lilac lacrima, fully tethered to the very core of Oblivion. Upon closer inspection she could see that there was a mortal form within the lacrima. A woman, with her hands clasped against her chest and long legs flush against one another. Her raven hair curled around her in a messy, imperfect way. The celestial's mouth actually began to open in awe.
Siya Vasile once again offered herself up to the chopping block, that time with the defiant hope of returning to her daughter.
