"Why her?"
"Go away." He didn't look up from the desk, picking at his nails.
A cold laugh. "Why? Because you know what you really want?"
Hesistation. "No. Go away."
"No." A pause. "Why her?"
He raised his eyes. "She's different, it's fun. Now go away before Dick comes in. You'll be murdered."
"I won't." Pride filled her voice. "I locked him in his office!"
He laughed, smiling at her antics fondly. Then he remembered, and quickly made his face straight. "Go away."
"Why is it so hard for you to accept?" A tear on a white face.
"There's nothing to accept." A hard voice, which softened. "Don't cry..."
"Why can you tell everyone you love her, and not me?"
"I don't love her- I just like her."
"And what of me?" A stinging voice.
Anger, hot anger. "You're being such a bitch!"
"No." A small smile. "Go on then. Look me in the eye and tell me you don't care."
"Allison-"
"Do it."
Eyes met. His were wide, shocked. Then he was standing up, in front of her. Lips met.
"I told you." She smiled triumphantly.
"But Claire-" He sighed. "What about Claire?"
"Deal with it."
She turned to leave.
"Wait-"
"No. You'll hear from me when you're ready for me."
John watched as she left.
