I remember the day Dad died…

I looked at the words I had typed into her computer. In truth, I only remembered it because that girl- whatever her name was- broke up with Jack. He wasn't the least bit sad at the fact, either. Truth be told, he seemed happy. But, due to the circumstances we were in, he didn't tell me until the day after Dad passed away.

I'll never forget what Selmac did for my Dad. He gave me a dad…

"Hey, Sam, got a minute?"

I glanced up from my laptop, smiling at the sound of his voice.

"Of course I do, sir."

Jack smiled. "It's 'Jack', Sam. I'm retired now, remember?"

I smirked. "Of course I remember, Jack. Anyway, what brings you here?"

"Oh, nothing much. Just bored out of my mind, so I though I'd come and disturb you." He walked over towards my desk, a quizzical look on his face. "What'cha doin'"

I closed the top to the laptop, giving him a look. "Stuff." I answered.

He smirked. "What kind of 'stuff'. Sam? Important stuff? Stuff you don't want me to know about…?"

I scowled. "It's nothing, Jack."

"Hmmmmm, sure it is." he answered, sitting down on top of my desk. I pulled my laptop closer to me.

"It sure is."

"Sam, what are you hiding?"

"You'll never know," I answered, smirking.

"Really, now?"

"Yes. Now, what do you want?"

"To take you out to dinner."

I blinked, taken aback. "What?"

"I. Want. To. Take. You. Out. To. Dinner," he repeated, slowly.

I laughed. "I know what you said, si- Jack. When?"

Jack checked his watch. "In a hour, maybe?"

I smiled. "Just so long as you take me home so I can change."

Jack jumped off my desk. "Done deal," he said, grabbing my hand and dragging me out of my office.

"Hold on!" I cried, grabbing my coat and turning off the lights as we left.
