Desc: Ron and Harry are both awakened by nightmares the night after Harry arrives at the Burrow after being rescued from the Dursleys.
Parings: Possible Ron/Harry if you squint at it
Moonlight filtered into Ron's attic bedroom, a beam of light illuminating the sleeping forms of two boys. After the excitement of the rescue both boys had fallen asleep almost as soon as they'd laid down.
The peaceful silence was broken suddenly as Ron began to toss and turn in his sleep, letting out small whimpers. His eyes shot open as he sat bolt upright looking around, his breathing was heavy. The youngest Weasley boy ran a hand through his ginger hair and let out a deep sigh, it was no surprise that his nightmare had involved spiders. Ron had been terrified of spiders for years. He shuddered as the last of his fear started to drain away.
Apparently Ron wasn't the only one having a rough night, a look over at the camp bed that Harry was asleep in revealed that the raven haired boy was twitching a bit in his sleep, he started to whine and talk to someone who wasn't there
"Let me go..please."
Ron sat dumbfounded, watching his friend as Harry continued to whimper and twitch. He knew Harry was back at Privet Drive in his barred up bedroom, begging to be let out. Ron seethed with hatred for Harry's so-called family. Soon enough the other boy woke up, panting and shaking just as Ron had done moments ago.
"You okay, mate?" Ron asked as Harry got his bearings and started to calm himself down. Harry sighed and nodded.
"Yeah, just a nightmare." he murmured "Did I wake you up?"
"No." Ron replied, "I was up..I had a bad dream too."
"Oh. Wanna talk about it?"
Ron shook his head quickly. The two boys laid there in the silence for a few moments and then Harry spoke up.
"I'm tired but..now I'm scared to go back to sleep." He muttered, voicing Ron's own feelings. Ron nodded, and thought for a moment.
"Maybe we'd sleep better if–" Ron began, he hesitated for a second and then continued, "we slept together."
Harry stared at him for a few moments and Ron almost regretted asking, but then a little grin spread across Harry's face and he clambered out of the camp bed and padded his way across the room and clambered under the covers next to Ron.
Ron grinned and, after another second of hesitation, cuddled a little closer to Harry and wrapped an arm around him. Harry let out a little sigh and closed his eyes. He felt warm and safe here next to Ron, as if he was being protected, as if nobody could hurt him. He took in the slightly minty scent of Ron's soap and allowed himself to relax.
"Night, Ron." He muttered sleepily.
"G'night, Harry." Ron replied
Each comforted by the other's presence the two boys drifted off, and there were no more bad dreams that night.
