Chapter 1 Moving In
Coffee & Smiley Faces
Beep beep beep. Santana's eyes shoot wide open as her alarm goes off and goes straight to a song that's currently playing on the radio. Some weird guy is singing about 'blow my whistle, baby'. That's just.. discusting! She turns around to turn it off with a loud sigh. 'Man I miss being in college and skipping classes' she thought to herself. 07.10... Santana graduated 2 months ago and was offered a job at her last internship. Although she really enjoyed her job so far she always needed a bit of time to adjust to her new surroundings. She hopped out of bed and went straight to the shower. Thank god it was not occupied, she really couldn't use that this morning.
After a quick shower she hopped back to her bunk in only a towel and got dressed in a tight black jeans and a white loose top. When she reached the kitchen she saw her roommate Quinn making some breakfast. "Fiet fiew, looking hot today Lopez. Found a girl at work to hit on already? Dress to impress right?" She laughed. Quinn had always been very supportive of Santana being gay ever since she came out to Quinn and some other friends a few years ago. "Oh shut it Fabray! If you want some sweet lady kisses all you should do is ASK!" She snorted while bumping her butt into Quinn's. "Mmm that looks and smells delicious!" She says while grabbing the toast Quinn just made from her plate and making her way to the doorway, grabbing her keys from the dining table and backpack that was hanging on a chair on her way out. "Ey! That's mine you ass! Wait we have to talk about your housing options before work!" Quinn yelled. Santana didn't reply and the door was already closed behind her. Walking downstairs to her rusty old car parked on the other side of the street.
OFFICE
"Goodmorning Will" Santana said when she stepped out of the elevator. "I brought you a coffee from downstairs, no sugar right?" Will looked up surprised. "Goodmorning Santana! Thank you, you didn't have to but I sure do need the cafeine this morning. We have a busy day ahead, meet me in my office in 5?" Santana faked a smile and replied politely "not a problem, I'll be right over!" She made her way to her desk and placed her backpack on the chair. The office they were in was quite small. They didn't need alot of space. Except for a few desks, Will's office, the cantine and a small room for the printers. Santana enjoyed working in a small company. She always prefered working closely with a few people rather than a whole group of people she barely knew.
So ofcourse there is Will, the owner. He is slightly older than the rest who are all around Santana's age. You have Mike and Tina, a couple which Santana found out during her first few days of her internship because the caught them kissing in the printer room. Artie, a nerdy but very nice guy in a wheelchair. And Sam, a cute blonde guy, which could definitely be Santana's type if only he was a girl. While Mike, Tina and now Santana were in charge of making all the designs for new customers, Artie and Sam where responsible for the technology behind their ideas. They worked great as a team. Which is why Santana was hyped when Will called her to the office to offer her the job straight after her internship.
While Santana began unpacking her bag she heared the sound of the elevator reaching their floor again. Will was standing in front of the elevator, it looks like he was waiting for someone. As the doors open Santana's eyes shot from Will to a blonde haired girl. She was surprised by her piercing blue eyes, her slightly curled hair and a funny sweater with a fat cat on it. It looked like her grandma might've made it. She heared Will greeting the girl and inviting her to his office. "Uhmmm Santana?" Tina asked while laughing. "Have you seen a ghost or something?". Santana's dark skin got a little blushy but she still managed a whitty reply "Hey Tina, yes a very pretty one don't you think!" Tina gave her a wink and walked away back to Mike who, ofcourse came in the office at the same time.
Santana realized Will asked her to meet him in his office. She was dying to find out what this blondie was doing here so she grabbed her coffee from the desk and made her way over to his now closed office. Santana softly knocked the door twice before letting herself in "you wanted to see me Will?" she asked. "Come in Santana, I want to introduce you to Brittany Pierce. She's currently in her last year and will be around the coming months for her graduation internship just like you did with us last year!" Santana looked over to Brittany and instantly got lost in those piercing blue eyes. What felt like a few seconds later she quickly moved the coffee cup she was holding from her right hand to her left hand so she could reach it out to the blonde in front of her. Brittany got up from her chair and grabbed Santana's hand in hers. "Santana Lopez" Santana said a little nervous. "Brittany S Pierce" replied Brittany with a little giggle. "So I've heared" Santana replied with a smirk trying to hide her loss of words so far. Will must've noticed the slightly awkward silence and started his explanation. "Brittany, I asked Santana in the room because I want her to guide you through your first few week here." He looked over to Santana who simply nodded a 'yes'. "I figured it would be nice for you since Santana also did her internship here. So she knows what it's like to be new around here." He continued. Brittany nodded and glanced at Santana. Santana smiled at her as soon as their eyes met again. "Brittany is here for a different job than you" Will said looking at Santana. Her eyes shot back from Brittany's to Will's.
"She is, if everything goes well going to be Sam and Artie's direct collegue. Well why don't you guys sit in the cantine for a while before you get to work. Get to know eachother a little!" he said. "Thanks Will, I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the team and getting to work" Brittany smiled politely. "Okay off to the cantine then" Santana said while walking to the door and holding it open for Brittany like a true gentleman... woman. "Lady's first" she said while waving her hand towards the hallway. "Thanks Miss Lopez" Brittany giggled softly while making her way out, Santana following closely behind her.
CANTINE
"Tea, coffee, something else?" Santana asked while walking towards the coffee machine. "Coffee and some milk please" Brittany replied, a bit more shy now that it was just the two of them. She felt a little nervous around this girl, she felt attracted to her. Something she didn't feel often with another girl. Until now she'd only been with boys. Nothing too serious though. Santana started talking "I would've gotten you a coffee from the shop downstairs if I'd known you would be here ofcourse, but Will didn't tell me before." Santana chuckled while grabbing the milk out of the fridge. "Oh that's alright" Brittany said "I'm all good, maybe next time, my treat." She said while connecting her eyes with the dark eyed latina. "Yea that'd be nice." Santana smiled while sitting down in front of the blonde and placing her coffee cup with a huge smiley face on in on the table.
"So, tell me about you...?" She asked the younger blonde. Brittany smiled and starting stirring her coffee a little nervously. "Well my middle name is Susan, my last name is Pierce, that makes me Brittany S. Pierce, Britney Spears" she air quoted the last name. Santana started laughing "wow that is seriously way to cool, so go on tell me about Brittany S. Pierce" she said. Brittany smiled "uhmm yes... Well I am in my last year at college now which is why I'm here for my last internship. I have a cat" she said while pointing to her sweater. "I live on my own on the other part of town. I enjoy living there though sometimes it gets kinda lonely" Santana smiled, she knew the feeling of loneliness. Which sounded weird. Santana and Quinn shared a bunk in the college appartment so there were always many people around her. But still, without her family around and being alone in bed at night she still felt lonely most of the nights.
Suddely Santana wondered and spoke outloud "how come you are living on your own in the city? Isn't that like super expensive?" Brittany's smile faded "Well, my parents left me and my sister the house we grew up in" she took a sip of the hot coffee before saying "my parents aren't around anymore... they had an accident a few years ago" Santana listened quietly, giving Brittany a soft smile to show her it was okay to continue her story. "When it happened my grandma came to live with me and my younger sister.
But after a while she went back to her own house and my sister went with her, she's only 16. So now it's just me and Lord Tubbington in the house" she smiled at the thought of her furry friend. "Luckily the house is paid off so it's just electrical and gas bills which I can cover with working extra shifts after work in a bar" she continued.
Santana let out a sigh and said "I'm so sorry Brittany for what happened with your parents" Brittany looked up from her very interesting cup of coffee and said "that's okay It's been a while. Ofcourse I miss them but... I have to go on. My sister visits almost every weekend if she's not too busy with a new boyfriend" she chuckled. Santana laughed "if you ever want some company when she's not around you're more than welcome to visit me in my room" Brittany smiled and said "thank you, I could use some company"
This was gonna be very interesting Santana thought to herself. Quinn would totally laugh at her if she could see her face right now. 'You're so whipped Lopez' she thought to herself.
