The first hope you enjoy of the 2022 year

New Year, New Me

A Doberman Pinscher looked his calendar.

December 31st

"Focus focus focus." He mumbled to himself as he quickly packed some important belonging. Mainly clothes and his family heirloom...a small case.

He shoved in the last of his clothes and shut it close, closing his suitcase fast. The Doberman paused and admired his room for a bit.

The hallway light turned on as the noise of footsteps grew. He slid his case under his bed and quickly covered his body.

The door swung open. "Claw?" A small white terrier said into the room.

He groaned... "yeah?" He mumbled as he squinted into the light avoiding a stare with the figure.

The figure shrugged. "Just checking in on my favorite dog in the world." She said.

She blew a kiss before lightly closing the door.

The Doberman listened for the footsteps to fade away before getting up once again.

Once they were gone he quickly and silently pulled out the suitcase. He paused, flashes and glimpses of him and Sweetie clouded his mind. "Focus." He mumbled to himself again.

He turned towards the window. The sky as dark as can be with no moon out. His bedroom sat 5 stories high.

The cemetery was a couple of blocks away starting at the beginning of the bridge. He had been planning this for weeks after realizing something important about his parents whom he dearly missed.

He looked at his old suit with a criminal background, a tear forcefully pushed itself out. "No!" He quietly scolded himself.

It was now or never.

He picked up his purple glider. On his back was a harness with a clip made perfectly for his suitcase. He weighed himself with the gear and he barely made the cut.

He opened his window and took heavy breaths.

"You got this you got this you got this"

He jumped out and shut his eyes closed so he couldn't see himself plunging to the ground from 75ft in the air.

After a couple of seconds he slowly opened his eyes and realized he was gliding. A wide smile grew across his face as he soared through the air.

The ties to his past loosened as he got farther and farther from the palace.

He slowly turned towards the cemetery.

A bad landing later

The Doberman stood up and spat dirt out of his mouth. He patted himself down and removed all the stuck leaves from his harness.

He entered and quickly made his way to a single grave and saw next to it.

He pulls out a flower and places it on top of the grave.

"Hey dad..." He mumbled.

He sniffled up some tears. "I wanted to say that I'm making a change...How come you didn't tell me you were an undercover agent? Hm? I know you wouldn't appreciate what I do now, especially with Sweetie." The Doberman said with his eyes closed and tears flowing.

"I wanna become...Good. I don't wanna pick pocket or break in...I'm doing this for you and Mom where ever she is."

He deeply inhaled. "This is my New Years resolution, to quit this terrible life and lead a new one." He exhaled.

The Doberman opened his eyes and sighed. "I can't stay long. Love you." He said standing up, he could still see the Barkingburg Castle in all of its glory and hidden dark side.

He smiled and kissed the grave stone before running off.

He met a loyal goon of his. "Hey Freddy."

"I'm proud of you for this." Freddy instantly said supporting Claw's decision.

Claw couldn't help but smile. "You stay safe you hear me?"

Fred gave a confident nod and moved out of the way revealing a small airplane. "Baby should take you to America and isn't being tracked by Sweetie." Fred smiled as he smacked the front of the engine.

Fred put out his hand for handshake but was met with a tight hug. "Gonna miss you." Claw said

They let go and parted way.

Adventure Bay, California

Claw gritted his teeth as he crash landed his plane into an open dirt field to try and avoid making contact with people for now.

He quickly got out of the plane and pulled out some matches and gasoline.

He took his time to pull out the surrounding grasses to stop the fire from possibly spreading. But soon, the noise he was trying to avoid could be heard in the distance.

Helicopter propellers and sirens. He lit the plane on fire and ran into a thick grove nearby. He watched as a helicopter scanned the area as a team of dogs in all sorts of colors surrounded the area.

It was the crack of dawn and the sun started to rise. The dogs lazily moved around probably disappointed by their new year so far.

It was evident the boy was the leader and the German Shepherd held some sort extra power among them.

As the hours went on the flames died out and they called it a day probably went home to wherever it is.

Claw stretched out his legs and walked out and followed the way the dogs entered from.

He wasn't sure what his plan was. He owned basically nothing apart from a little bit of cash and his "clothes"

He walked around town for a bit before deciding to stay in an alley that seemed vacant.

He walked in rethinking his decision to enter and just rent out a hotel.

Low growls could be heard around him. There was an uncountable amount of dogs surrounding him. "Hello. Heh heh." He lightly chuckled and slowly backed up.

He turned around to see a huge cane corso staring down at him with a little bit of saliva dripping down on his face. He stayed calm, and tried to think to other situations like this.

Usually he had his gear and an ally but he was missing some of that.

He suddenly dashed past a group of dogs to the exit before feeling a sharp pinch on his tail, turns out it wasn't a pinch.

He barked in pain and tried to fight back but he couldn't pull himself up.

"HEY! Who's there!" A loud voice boomed throughout the alley. Almost instantly the pain loosened but was still there.

Claw looks up to see the same German Shepherd from earlier. "Have we met before? You smell...familiar." He asked as he helped Claw to his feet.

"Nope, I'm new to the town, Claw."

"Chase."

Chase looked at Claws rear end, "that's doesn't look good, you should come with me." Chase insisted as he walked out the alley in his police uniform.

Claw followed hoping his first time trusting a stranger wouldn't backstab him.

The Lookout

Marshall groaned as he stretched out his paws and saw his fellow teammates sleeping. All but Chase. He sighed and assumed he went back to the helicopter.

That's why we was thoroughly surprised when he saw Chase with a Doberman waiting outside the door.

Marshall quietly let them in. "Who's this?" Marshall quickly asked.

Chase shrugged. "He needed some help and I need you to fix him up. His tail doesn't look to good."

Marshall was automatically on board when Chase mentioned he need help.

They led him to the Marshalls room where most of his supplies is.

After awhile, Claw walked out cast on his tail. "Well this is a nice way to be introduced to the city." He said in a British accent.

He looked around. "Was that me?"

"The accent?" Marshall replied

He slowly nodded.

Chase nodded in agreement and watched Claw rethinking his life. "I've never noticed it..." he said even more.

They tip toed downstairs and looked at the sleeping pups. Claw couldn't take his eyes off of the two females of the team.

A small voice spoke to him. "They're pretty at first but you get used to it, just don't try anything since they know show no remorse when it comes to feelings." Marshall informed noticing Claws stares.

He ignored it, he was aware of his own charm and he often used it. He was already confident he was better looking compared to his peers.

Chase wasn't going to let a stranger stay in their house much longer if he didn't have any background info.

"Where you from?" He asked

Claw didn't hesitate, he had a bad feeling about this Shepherd. "Barkingburg."

The feeling was mutual between them. Something was off to Chase. He can almost guarantee he smelt Claw recently.

Chase nodded "Explains the accent, are you of any royalty?"

"Yeah actually. Was a knight for the princess. Had a pup pack like yours." Claw said looking at Chase's, then to Marshall.

The Paw Patrols pup packs were superior to his.

Claw was reevaluating his background, he knew Chase was trying to get information.

"What did you do in your free time?" Chase questioned.

Claw wasn't ready for this question. "I uh" he stumbled.

Marshall stepped in between Chase and the guest. "I think that's enough questions for now." He nervously chuckled and walked into the kitchen to prepare everyone food.

Chase sighed. "At least, where do you live? And How did you end up in Adventure Bay? I don't understand why you'd be in an alley, especially when there's a pack of dogs out for blood."

"I don't have anywhere to sleep and I was planning on the alley to be my home. And I needed a fresh start for the new year." Claw replied looking at the ground feeling embarrassed.

Chase sighed. "I can talk to Ryder if you wanna stay here. You can sleep in my house. It's out front, the dark blue one with a police badge symbol. Don't mistake for the teal one. You can drop your stuff off in there."

Claw raised an eyebrow. "You'd do that? Where would you sleep?"

"Inside the lookout probably, just have my gear ready to go." Chase quickly replied and headed up the stairs.

As Claw walked outside, he felt...free. No guards no nothing out here. His stomach twisted a little thinking of the castle.

He laid eyes on the dog house, the sunlight reflected was strong enough to blind you. He opened it and started to unpack and check if he forgot anything.

He knew he had to hide the case. Especially with a cop around.

knock knock knock*

Claw ignored the knocks and continued. He shoved the case under his clothes and checked some other stuff.

The door opened letting in the early light. "Hey Chase, where did you guys go this morning? Also what happened to your tail?" A female voice groggily asked.

Claw paused in confusion.

The voice grew suspicious. "Chase?"

Claw turned around and saw the beautiful Husky he noticed. "I'm not Chase but h-

The Husky was gone in a matter of second.

"THERE'S AN INTRUDER!" She yelled to everyone else.

Chase and Ryder ran down the stairs. "What?" Ryder asked.

Chase felt his heart sink...he spent the entire time telling Ryder other things. He was scared of him saying no to his decision.

"There's a dog is in Chase's pup house!" Everest squealed.

Ryder pulled out a wooden bat.

Chase blocked the door. "Ryder I can explain."

"You're having girls at the lookout without telling me?" Ryder scoffed losing part of his trust for Chase.

"It was a guy!" Everest included.

"Youw gay?" Zuma questioned with a grin on his face.

Chase pawed his face. "I found him getting jumped in an alley, I brought him back so Marshall could help him because his tail looked bad. So now we're here. I was gonna ask you if he could stay here because he doesn't have a place yet and he's from Barkingburg." Chase quickly said explaining the story.

Claw saw Chase standing at the door so he didn't think much. "Hey Chase, I finished but your husky friend got sca- oh." He froze and looked at the mob of dogs and a human.

Ryder couldn't bring himself to kick out the dog, but he would have to stay under one condition. "You can stay but you need to tell me your strengths and weaknesses."

Ryder looked around "You can stayyyy..."

"Names Claw."

"You can stay Claw." Ryder added and smiled.

He walked upstairs to do some paperwork for Uncle Sam.

3 months later

It didn't take long for Claw to end up an official Paw Patrol member in training. He was taken under Chase's wing to become a police officer.

The dynamic of the team heavily changed. Having Claw was good but he wasn't one to be a follower, he wanted to be a leader. Unluckily Chase was the one he had to beat.

Chase grew more and more suspicious of the Doberman. Nothing sets off his nose more than what Claw does at night and how good he is at basic stuff like shooting and fighting. It never comes east but for Claw, it was natural.

Marshall doesn't believe him, neither does Everest and Tracker.

Every night Claw goes to the edge of the cliff the lookout sits on and stares into the sky for a couple of hours.

Chase found his pup house and entered it.

He saw Claw's suitcase and opened it. Almost instantly he found the case Claw hides.

He wasted no time in opening it.

The contents were as expected since this was a small arms gun case. A pistol, suppressor, and 3 extra magazines loaded.

Then there was a picture with Claw, an infamous small white terrier and a much older Doberman. Chase closed everything and ran out and into the lookout. He processed everything.

Now it was a matter of Claw was still with Sweetie or he was running from her.

The next morning

Chase walked out the lookout to wake up the pups. He woke up Claw last just to see him. When Claw opened the door, Chase was met with violence.

They scrapped with each other inside of the pup house, destroying and messing up everything.

"You looked inside my suitcase." Claw grunted as he demobilized Chase.

Chase stayed quiet.

"I don't want to hurt you Chase, you're a good guy." Claw said trying to calm down the Shepherd.

Chase stopped struggling knowing it was wasting his energy. "And you're not, I know who you are. I was suspicious of you BUT...I don't want to get rid of you. The others love your company, probably more than mine but what's important is you." Chase said trying to sympathize with the Doberman.

Claw got off of Chase. "You're bleeding a bit." They both said in unison.

"Like I said, I want a fresh start free from the life of crime. New year New Me type of thing." Claw assured

Chase nodded. "Here's the story, me and you were playing and we both fell."

Claw nodded and they both exited. "Is it clear that I'm the better fighter than you?" Claw jokingly asked.

"Don't get ahead of yourself. You had the jump on me." Chase replied trying to use an excuse.

When they walked in they were shocked to see all of the paw patrol members tied up and their mouths taped closed.

As Chase and Claw approached, they that faced them shook, yelled and did whatever they could to try and alert them.

At the doorway was Sweetie.

Claw felt his new him fade away.

"Oh Claw, we've been searching for you for awhile now." Sweetie said taking a step forward.

"Keep your distance." Chase ordered.

Sweetie scoffed. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" She yelled at the Shepherd.

"A maniac?" He sarcastically said.

Sweetie snapper her head at Claw, fire in her eyes burned into his. "Tell who you really are Claw."

"Well, he found out yesterday." Claw informed.

Sweetie sighed. "Whatever, Claw is a high class criminal wanted by the British police."

Claw didn't dare look back the the others.

"Look Sweetie, this is only gonna go one way." Chase informed reaching for his taser.

He looked down and noticed it wasn't there.

"Looking for this?" She laughed and held up the taser.

Chase rolled his eyes. "Can I have it?"

"Yeah." She pointed it and shot Chase with the taser. He jerked back and forth and fell to the ground. "Let's go Claw."

"No."

Sweetie looked at him without saying a word.

Sweetie slowly reloaded the taser. She was stopped when a small vase had hit her head.

Upon looking up, she saw Claw bull rushing her. He completely missed and ran into a wall.

Chase shook off the feeling and slowly took out the barbs from the gun. He groaned as he stood up. "Never again." He weakly mumbled.

He shook his head and saw Sweetie manhandling Claw like he was a child.

"I'm sorry." He mumbled and pulled out a police baton.

He slowly approached Sweetie from behind and

Crack!*

She fell over unconscious. "You okay?" Chase said to the barely conscious Claw.

Another 3 months

Chase and Ryder somehow convinced Claw was with the Paw Patrol. Ryder was known for doing things behind the polices back with the help of Chase.

But today was a special day for Claw.

Chase sat in the back of his own cruiser as Claw drove a route throughout the city. Chase wasn't fond of the idea of having to sit next to the driver and be considered the "partner" He put up with it though.

A loud ringing noise could be heard.

"Dispatch we have a 211 on Valentine and Mercury"

Claw's tail wagged "Copy that" he instantly replied.

When arrived at the scene, they watched two suspects in balaclavas point their gun at an old Mexican man. "Who robs a liquor store?" Chase said pulling out his gun.

Claw shrugged and used the megaphone built into the truck. "It's the Police! Put down your weapons and surrender yourselves." Claw ordered.

Chase jumped a bit before stopping himself. He noticed that Claw was off during his statement.

They both watched the suspects take the money and exit through the back doors. A helicopter flew above them calling out the criminals to the duo who began their chase.

At the lookout, Ryder watched from a helicopter point of view biting his nails. It looked like a game of Pac-Man with the criminals running from the cops.

He felt a little unsure since this was Claw's first real call but Chase was there who has done this a few times in his career.

Ryder watched as the criminals split up on a different straight street. Chase went right while Claw went left.

Chase quickly caught his guy but Claw didn't have it so easy with the straight street.

Claw made and right and slowly gained on the criminal. He zig zagged through alleys making hard for Claw to pick up speed on the guy.

"Bark! Analyze his gun!" He called out.

A small transparent screen dropped in front of his eyes. It zoomed in on the gun and a part of the barrel was painted orange. "Oh I got you now." Claw growled and sped up.

They both wrestled on the ground with the guy hitting Claw's head and yelling for help.

Chase turned the corner locking eyes with the robber. The man passed out.

Claw let go and they both got to work on healing the mans bloody arm. "You like the taste of blood?" Claw asked as he spat.

"It's not bad nor good. Ask Everest, anything liver she loves." Chase informed.

Claw nodded.

Later that night

Claw sat down and stared into the ocean. There was no moon out today. Claw took it as a sign.

"Hey dad...I did it. I got my first real stop as a police dog. L-like you. I'm probably not as good as you though." Claw said imaging what his dad would say.

He sighed. "It's great here. It can be rough with the others attitudes and hell, Skye is taking my heart. I heard her and Chase were close for a bit but Chase focused on the Paw Patrol. Then Zuma, boy does he have a way with girls. I've gotta talk to both of them to help me...enough of me venting. It's time for me to go now." Claw finished, he picked a nearby flower held it out.

The wind picked it up and took into the ocean out of sight.

"God I love this new life, new friends, and this new me."
