Midnight Dance

By: the critical blow

The music started up.

They met at the room's center. He bowed and she curtseyed before they began to dance.

Slow and steady.

The grand hall was empty save for the two of them, he'd made sure of that personally. He didn't want anyone to ruin this for him... Not tonight. He didn't need anyone else to find out about this. Not just because his Superior would be mad with him, he could care less about what the melodramatic man thought or said unless it had to deal with getting his heart back, it was just the fact that he'd never be able to live it down if any of his fellow Order members found out about this.

Slow and steady...

Deep Violet locked with chocolate brown as their eyes met. She smiled brightly up at him and he found a small smile worm its way onto his face as well. Neither one spoke. No words were needed at the moment. Not that any could be shared anyway. So they continued their wordless dance.

You're beautiful...

Twist.

I wish I could have you...

The music stopped signifying his time was up. Belle stood before him her hands still in his. He kissed one of her hands and she blushed, pale cheeks turning a faint pink as she averted her gaze from his. He laughed softly and she smiled at him, laughing as well.

He loved her laugh.

It was nice... even if it wasn't real.

He watched as the once bright ballroom full of it's rich colors faded to the brilliantly blinding white and muted grays of the Castle that Never was.

And soon Belle vanished her wonderful laugh fading with her leaving Xaldin to stand alone.

He stepped out of the room he'd been occupying and walked down the hall looking to see if Xigbar was up for some sparing. Number 2 had been acting a bit lazy these past few week...

And he was not about to be outranked by anyone weaker than him.

But as he turned down another hallway he was too late to see Xigbar stumble out of the room, a hand over his mouth to quite his giggles, camera in his hand.

'I really need to thank Namine for this.' They both thought simultaneously.

Xaldin for the dance...

...and Xigbar for the blackmail.

A/N: Something that crawled into my head last night on my way back from Corpus and threatened to lay plot bunny eggs in my head if I didn't write this. I dunno. I just like this pairing for some reason.

...don't look at me like that. --;
