"Here." Watanuki held out a shiny object to the stoic Doumeki.
Biting off the last bit of his popsicle he deftly threw the stick into a neighboring trashcan – much to Watanuki's annoyance – and grabbed the item.
"What's this?"
"I won two at that booth over there," he held up the other one to his eyes, admiring the way it sparkled. "I didn't like that one, so I'm giving it to you."
"Hn." Doumeki looked down at the small plastic ring. It was cheaply made and would probably fall apart before tomorrow. The paint on one side of the fake jewel had already chipped off, and he could see the dull gray color of metal underneath. He tried it on his fingers, noting that it didn't fit him.
"This is made for a girl's hand."
"They don't have any other sizes. Besides your supposed to give it to a girl," Watanuki told the taller boy matter-of-factly. He admired the ring a few more minutes before placing it carefully into his pocket. He looked over at Doumeki who was still absentmindedly trying to fit the ring onto his fingers. The archer looked up and stared at him for such a long time without saying anything that Watanuki could feel his temple burst.
"WHAT!"
"Well?" Was the blank response.
"WELL WHAT!"
"I thought you were going to propose to me." He held up the ring. "With this."
Watanuki blushed crimson red before feeling himself well up with anger. "WHAT! No way!"
"Oh."
"Besides, do you honestly think I'd propose with a shoddy ring like that! I would definitely pull all the stops for something so important like that you idiot!"
"When then?"
"I –" Watanuki blushed severely when he realized that he was talking to Doumeki as if he really was going to marry him. "Y-y-you! I'm never marrying you! Get that idea out of your head. I only meant to say that I'm not going to be a cheap bastard when I propose." He quickly turned and ran away, stopping only briefly to shout at him, "AND I MEANT TO SOMEONE ELSE!"
Doumeki looked at the ring again and neatly crushed it in his hand. "Oi," he yelled to the retreating back of the panicky boy, "I don't care about material things, so I'll say yes now to save you the trouble."
He watched as that other boy nicely tripped on his own legs and fell flat into the dirt.
His lips twitched only slightly at the sight.
