Now we are starting to get to some of the funs stuff when it comes to the story, as now, I can finally start getting into the champions and other things. Though there is a lot I want to do, I going to keep it compressed, so there isn't too much confusion

the story will still revolve around Link, and as such most chapter will focus on his relationship with other characters though I will often veer off and do different characters

now let's begin

Link let out a breath of fresh air as he felt Mipha lean against him. They let out a small laugh as they looked at the sight in front of them, a Lynel lying on the ground, several shock arrows scattered across the ground. To make a long story short, the Lynel had at some point taken resident on polymus mountain. When the Zora had come to remove it, they had found quite suddenly that it was in possession of shock arrows which to them was a death threat their many injuries and of course, being the person, he was once he heard of the Zora plight, Link had immediately came to deal with it. Of course, once Mipha had learned of his plan one that she was attempting as well, she secretly followed the ensuing argument that had led to them nearly being bested.

"you know," Mipha said, finally catching her breath, "once my father learns about this," she said, "he's going to give you a lecture."

Link smiled Dorphan wouldn't just lecture him. He would glare at him with that worried eye on that he often would assume a father would. Ever since he had become a knight, the King had grown into giving a lecture of him being reckless. Often he wondered if Dorphan had viewed him as his own. Link shook his head "eh, worth it," Link muttered. He could hear Mipha laugh as he looked at her "if anything, I'm more worried about Seggin," Link said, "he doesn't say anything, just gives me that cold glare."

"oh, I'm sure he's just as worried," Mipha said as she started to heal some of Link's wounds.

"princess," a guard shouted as he ran up the mountain "there you are," he said, sounding relieved. He stopped when he saw the Lynel on the ground. and an injured Link "are you alright."

"I'm fine," Mipha said. "Link here was a little injured after his fight," she told the guard," so I need to heal him."

"I understand," the guard walked up, looking over the Lynel "thank you, sir Link," he muttered, "you do too much for the Domain."

Link smiled and nodded, clearly showing that it was no problem Mipha sighed. Since Link joined the royal guard, he became less talkative though ha part of her wondered what the cause was. She could only guess though she did notice he was talkative when they were together, she worried that it would grow to a point where he would stop talking all together "see to it, my father knows of what happened," Mipha said, "I will tend to Link's wounds, and we will be there shortly."

the guard nodded as he started to leave Mipha waited until the shadow of the guard was gone as she looked back "you know," she began, "I notice that you seem to talk less," she said, "if you don't mind me asking, is something wrong."

"no," Link said, "it's just, have you ever had to wear a mask."

"a mask," Mipha asked, confused.

"it's just," Link sighed, "I just feel out of place," Link muttered, "it's so weird."

"out of place," Mipha asked.

"I mean sure, I have Kiana," he said, "but sometimes it feels there's this wall between my fellow knights and me."

"have you ever thought about telling them this" Mipha said "sometimes, to remove a wall, you have to be willing to break it down"

"maybe," Link muttered, "but when it comes to the fact that they know who my father was and that I was knighted at thirteen, they either view me with awe, contempt, or both," Link laughed.

"I can understand where you're coming from, Link," Mipha started, "but you also have too willing to see the problem within yourself." she smiled "besides, we shouldn't worry ourselves so much with what others think." she said, "and you never know, someone there might have had a similar experience."

Link sighed. "Daruk said something similar to me once."

"Well then, it's good advice," she smiled. "the way you talk about him means that he must be a powerful and good friend to you, yes."

"yeah," Link smiled. He could say that Daruk was one of if not his closest friends. feeling a teasing grin from "I have to say he is a good friend, he's like a brother to me."

"oh," Mipha said, "well, I'm glad to hear you are actually making friends" she smiled. "I don't want you to all alone when you're out there." she smiled as she finally finished healing Link the last wound going away "now that is done, I want to show you something," she smiled as she guided Link to the edge of shatterback point.

"what are you trying to show me" Link stopped as he saw a large mechanical creature. It lets a loud shout Mipha smiled as they watched it rise out of the water giving a large screech as a burst of water came from its snout. "wow."

"yes," Mipha said smiling, "apparently, it what they call a divine beast," Mipha noted, "we have named it Vah Ruta, named after the sage princess Ruto" she smiled.

"its" Link was speechless. He had heard that the sheikah had unearthed something big but seeing it up close and personal. it was "magnificent" was all Link was able to saw

"yes," Mipha said, "seeing it is quite the sight," she smiled, "they say the reason that all this going on is that Calamity Gannon is rumored to return."

"yes," Link muttered, "he heard about that through whispers and such, but as a knight, it really wasn't anything he wasn't allowed to talk about it though the rumors had everyone up in arms Link sighed as he looked at Vah Ruta again.

Link sighed as he walked through castle town a large bag on his back he walked past, giving several people greetings. He enjoyed being a knight was his ability to simple things, such as helping others when they needed it. He sighed as he stopped in front of a small shop.

"Link," the shop owner smiled as he Link handed him several bottles of delicate fish and other materials "you don't have to do this, you know," he smiled, "or the very least let me pay you." Link simply shook his head as he walked away

"Link," a voice called he heard as a farmer ran up to him, "I just wanted to give something to say thanks" he smiled "you cleared up those monsters that were terrorizing my sheep," he said, "it took a while but."

"that's okay," Link said, making the man stop, "use that money to get anything you could need," he smiled "besides, I'm a knight; it's my duty to protect my people."

"Are you sure?" he said. Link simply waved as he walked away. He had a few more stops, and they all typically ended the same way he would do something nice the person would try to give him something for his good deed, and he would deny it. as he made his last stop in front of Edna's small shop

"ah, Link," Edna greeted him with a warm smile as Link pulled out several bags of seeds, soil, and other things she would need to run her shop Link had started doing this as the women began to reach her elder years and "you know my boy" she smiled at him "you shouldn't be putting so much on your plate."

It's no problem," Link said as he set up a few pots. "I like to help people out whenever I can," he smiled "it's why I became a knight."

"I see," Edna smiled. She knew there was no stopping Link. Once he had a goal in mind, he was set on doing it no matter the strain it would put on his body. "well, let me say thank you," she laughed, "you are too kind to an old woman like me."

"it's my pleasure," Link told her as he started to fold the bag so he can place it in his pouch as he began to leave, "if you need anything else, let me know."

"I will," she said as she watched Link leave. He had been making great strides as a knight and was moving quickly though she knew of the scorn that many knights felt for him many would pass by talking about how easy he had it. 'if only they knew,' she muttered. 'sometimes the one who gains the most are the ones who have experienced the most pain.' the might of the monster attack flashed in her mind. she wondered for months of the boy and his mother's fate if they had managed. to survive or not when she had learned he had survived but neither didn't she shook her head 'Link, I hope you don't let it bring you down.'

"excuse me miss," the voice of a customer brought Edna out of her thoughts as she turned to get another customer with fresh supplies thank a Hylian knight

Link sighed as he entered the housing distracts where knights lived. He sighed. Knights all stopped looking at him. They were eyes of distrust, hatred, contempt. Maybe they were all there

he thought of what Mipha told him, but at the same time, it was hard to ignore with all the staring. Sometimes he wondered why he put up with all this.

As he walked, he noticed the princess standing above, watching over the knights. The look of jealousy in her eyes had always thrown Link off guard every time she would see him; a look of hatred came across her face unless she had to talk to him, which was rare 'when your own princess views you with hatred.'

"it's because they don't know you' a voice told him, 'maybe if you let them in.'

"scowls don't suit you," a voice called. "Link turned to see his friend and mentor Kiana smiling at him. He frowned as he looked away "come on, you look so down. I hear you've been busy."

"you could say that," Link muttered as she approached him

"though I want to tell you should take breaks when you're given them," Kiana smiled, "but how you spend your free time is your business" she placed an arm around him, "but you should also rest up despite what everyone thinks you're not a machine."

"I guess," Link muttered

"hey captain, a knight called

"I'll be there in a sec" Kiana called

"where you're heading," Link asked

"nowhere important," Kiana told him, "a few monster sightings and such" she smiled. "I would have invited you, but you need to take it easy," she said "while I may not be your captain anymore, I still am your friend. You're going to burn yourself out."

"so, take a break. I hear there going to be a festival tonight," she smiled, "so pucker up and go have some fun," Link looked away while it did seem like a good idea. A part of him just wanted to sleep.

"I'll do that," Link said as he started to leave.

"and Link," Kian's voice called over. He looks back, "love you," she gave him that motherly smile that she knew always got him embarrassed Link nodded before leaving.

"Love you too," he bids his friend and mother figure. Farewell, so he could get some rest, the place he had was a small empty apartment. It had a few knickknacks here and there and on a small shelf was the necklace that Mipha had given him lying on his bed. The sound of silence soon filled the room 'now I have to choices'

he let out a sigh Mipha's words to him earlier that day had come to his mind he needs to try at least and bond with his fellow knights, but what could go wrong

'This was a mistake,' Link said as he sat alone on a balcony. The first thing that happened was that nearly every knight there had started to avoid him or give him praise for some made-up feet that he doesn't make sense; of course, others would just pretend he wasn't there. He didn't mind, though. Maybe there was something he could do though he couldn't help but also feel a certain nervousness around most; of course, any civilian or people that weren't in the royal guard would greet him, but then they would go off to be with others.

Link was pulled out of his thoughts when one of the doors opened. He looked over to see a woman who had long white hair, and Link noticed that she had the sheikah eye symbol. On closer inspection, Link saw that it was Lady Impa, the royal advisor. As she laid eyes, a shocked look comes over her face. A set soon signed at him.

Link raised an eyebrow. He understood Hylian sign. He learned it so he could communicate with a deaf girl in town, he had taught it to a few of her friends as well, but apparently, people seemed to get the impression that he was mute, so that was something he and Kiana could laugh about later "I can talk," Link mentioned.

"oh," was all the woman said, clearly shocked. "I'm so sorry," she said, rubbing the back of her head, clearly embarrassed "it's just that I hear a group of knights going on about how you were mute, and every time I'd see you were alone" she was mumbling at this point "so I'd thought"

"no, it's okay" Link smiled. "I understand the gesture" he looked at his drink, "that was nice of you."

"well, there goes that" Impa let out a small laugh, "so can I ask you why you don't talk so much" she sat down, looking at the lone drink on his table. "I just find it weird, ya know."

"it's nothing much," Link said. "I just don't have much to say," he laughed "maybe I should start relying on Hylian sign," he heard Impa giggle a bit.

"why"

"cause why not," Link said, "it'd probably be fun then I could talk one day just to shock everyone."

"I'm pretty sure you could do that now with little trouble," Impa told him as she scooted back. Looking over the balcony seeing the celebrations going on below. "what was it like," she asked "you know, being able to go to Zora domain with little trouble freely," she asked.

"eh," Link said, "it's not as glamorous as one would put it."

"I guess," she said, "you know, being removed from what you know" she looked at him, "having it all ripped out from underneath you." Link could see it in her eyes, the look he had seen so many times every time he looked in a mirror. Maybe that's what brought her here. She wanted to get another perspective, but he couldn't give her that.

"ya know," Link started looking over as well, seeing people dancing in the streets, "a good friend of mine once told me, we shouldn't focus on what we lost" he smiled "focus on what you gain,"

"sounds like a good friend," Impa said

"yeah," Link said. silence came over them as they watched the festival go on "you think that it gets any better" Link asked

"maybe," Impa said, "at least that's what my sister says" she looked away. "Purah always says that you don't belong somewhere you find it yourself or something like that"

"Lady Purah is your sister," Link asked, clearly shocked

"what," Impa asked

"Nothing, it's just she's so," Link had thought to the few times he had interacted with the scientist and how he was lucky to still be in one piece "extraverted, and you're so this"

"you just gestured to all of me," Impa said. "I can be extraverted."

"I never said you couldn't," Link said. "I'm just saying you're composed and observant. She's well eccentric and chaotic" Impa let out a laugh.

"don't ever let her hear you say that," Impa said, "she'd probably take it as a compliment." she smiled "in fact, I'll take your comment on me as a compliment," she smiled.

"oh, will you now," Link said

"maybe," Impa smiled, "I take pride in what I do" she smiled

their laughter filled the space as the festival below continued 'maybe,' Link thought to himself. He looked at Impa as she flashed him a smile. Maybe Mipha was right. All he needed to do was to take down the wall he built himself, and perhaps he could get closer to the people he has sworn to protect

"so, what is the Domain like," Impa said, trying to get back on topic if they had started on "I mean I never had the chance to go."

"it's honestly a sight to see," Link said, "you can't describe it but see it once, and you've seen one the best sights in all of Hyrule."

"best sights, huh," Impa said. I need to find an excuse to head there at some point," Impa smiled as a guard came up to the pair.

"Lady Impa," he said, "Princess Zelda has requested your presence."

"I understand" she looked back. A devious grin came over as she signed goodbye to Link as he gave her a not funny Look. She hid a giggle as she waved by.

as she left, Link mind started to wonder, 'I wonder if Mipha would like one of those flower necklaces Link didn't know why the Zora princess would occupy his thoughts so much, but there was a time when it would be calming

"well," Link said as he finished his drink. 'at least I'm making friends,' Link said to himself.

"Hey, Link," Impa said, "mind helping me out with something tomorrow."

"Sure," Link said as he stood up, getting ready to head in for the night.

The next day, Link had found himself stuck behind a bush waiting for a group of monsters, the sound of the wind bushing through the trees as Link had to hold himself still. "Link, get lower," a voice whispered.

"This isn't comfortable," Link whispered back. Eh hate being in one place for an extended period he could manage, but he didn't get the purpose of this.

"get over it," the voice whispered again. Impa was hiding in a bush across from him. She had come to him by asking for help. Link's heroic nature took over, that and he had nothing better to do till that afternoon as Mipha was in Castle town and had agreed to meet up with her, so he didn't want to miss her, but Impa needed help, and well he was a helpful person.

"will you too be quiet," another voice said it belonged to Kiana. She had come with them more curious than anything, and much like Link, she had nothing better to do "you can't ambush an enemy if they hear you" it was her idea to ambush the enemy as when his highness had told them about this.

"um, Kiana," Link they were here because the monster had apparently gained a particularly important sheikah Impa was tasked with receiving, and she had asked Link for help. Kiana had insisted that she come because monsters were starting to get more dangerous and more cunning. Also, the fact that Link would be escorting the Royal advisor, he would need some help. Though he felt a bit offended that she had said he would need help, he guarded Mipha all by himself every time she comes to Castle town, but he understood her concerns.

"Hey, we didn't ask you to come, Kiana," Impa started.

"Lady Impa"

"I came here to make sure Link didn't get himself to hurt," Kiana shot back.

"I would have been fine," Link stated

"I've seen him take entire armies of monster by himself," Impa muttered,

"last time you told me that, you ended up fighting three Hinox's and a Lynel," Kiana told him, "so clearly, our definitions of being safe while on the job are different." Link just shook his head as he noticed something. He could see the monsters

"there here," he said as he pointed down the road seeing several monsters pass by, nothing more than Lizalfos, Bokolbins, and Moblins. Pretty simple, Link thought to himself as to where they were going. They could only guess, but as the days went by, monster sightings were becoming more common. so, they were most likely moving their camp

"Okay then," Impa said, smiling, "let's do this."

"Finally," Link muttered. He was starting to fall asleep. Once the monster was in position Link, pulled out his sword, not waiting, decided to jump in, letting out a giant shout. He immediately cut down the head of a Moblin as he heard Impa land next to him, taking down several Bokolbins as the Lizalfos started to run up to them. Kiana jumped down, using her sword to cut them down. She glared at Link as he gave her an incent smile. She shook her head as they continued the fight.

Impa was surprisingly good at this. Now he understood the King's comment on how she didn't often need escorts he had in his hand as he continued to fight his way. The monster wasn't that numerous, but they still put up a good fight. "Impa, why did you need help on this again" Link asked as Impa giggled

"man," Kiana said, "that was barely a workout" she sighed as he made let out a whistle. Four horses came up to them. Link walked up to his steed before patting it on the head "hey girl," Link whispered, "how are you" his horse Epona bowed its head as Link pulled out an apple so it could munch on one.

"so, what do you guys say we start heading back," Link asked as they all climbed on their horses before heading out. "Lady Impa did get everything," Link asked.

"Yes," she said, approaching him pulling a strange device off one of the monster corpses, "how these things got this artifact? I don't know, but we have it know" she smiled "thank you, Link," she smiled as Kian let out a cough "and you too Lady Kiana."

"you're welcome," Kiana smiled as Impa started to get on her horse. She was glad to see Link was making more friends. She watched as the two had a lengthy conversation staying behind. If she was honest, she only tagged along because she wanted to see if Link was actually trying like he said he was. Well, she was glad that he was, in fact, trying to open up, surer. She wasn't expecting him to go and befriend the royal advisor. Still, it was a start now if only she could get him to talk around the knights, she could retire and die a peaceful death. 'and with what the king is planning.' she was one of the few knights who knew of what was going on due to her seniority Link had apparently also been told seeing as he was Hyrule's rising star or whatever that meant 'when that happens, who knows the pain those days would bring' that was one of the main reasons she decided to tag along she wanted to be with Link. Still, she knew that wouldn't always be the case, leading to her stressing out a bit more than average.

"and I'm telling you I know a good way to get you in there," Impa said. She looked back. This wasn't a conversation. She wanted to have a conversation between the two of them. She had noticed that Link seemed more talkative when it just the two of them, but that seemed to change with Kiana though she did see why Link and Kiana are clearly close friends.

"and I told you I'm good" Link smiled. "I'm in no rush to head to Gerudo town" they've been having this conversation ever since he told her about how he never went to the Gerudo desert with the while no men allowed in town rule Link just figured he'd wait until he had an assignment.

"well, fine," Impa said putting "don't say I didn't try to help you." as they walked, the sound of a beam going off made the trio stop. They looked over to see Purah tinkering with something g. She looked up, a smile coming over her face as she noticed her sister along with link" hey Linky," she shouted, "come here, I need a knight who won't piss his pants" she smiled "and you're the only knight I know that fits that bill"

"hey," Kiana shouted, clearly offended by the scientist's words, "I'll have you know I'm the reason that kid has the balls he does."

"sure, whatever," she said behind here was what Purah had told link to be a guardian. They had been unearthing a lot of these things in the past few years. "I need someone to help me test these things combat capabilities," she smirked, "unless it's too much for you to handle."

"what are you trying to say," Kian said

"Kiana," Link had already jumped off his horse and was getting ready,

"see what I mean," Kiana muttered to Impa earning herself a giggle from the Royal advisor "hold up, Link," she said as she jumped down. "I'll go in to," she said

"Purah," Impa said as she walked up to her sister, "what did you do."

Pura just gave her an innocent smile as the sound of the guardian's beam started to charge

a few minutes later, Link and Kiana stood in front of a pile of scrap that used to be a guardian Purah stood behind them, pouting like a child as Impa was on the floor laughing. The fight hadn't even been fifty minutes

"man, I'm," Kian let out a breath as Link patted her on the shoulder, "I think I'm starting to get too old for this," she muttered as she looked at Link, who, unlike her, was barely out of breath

"man," Kiana muttered, "for such big things, they sure do move fast" Kiana laughed, "I think I might have nightmares" Link just shrugged

"Okay," Purah said, muttering something about new data and how to make the guardian more efficient as Impa, finally recovering from her laughing fit, stood up to see if Link and Kiana were okay

"Yeah, give me a minute," Kiana said. "I didn't expect that much trouble." Link frowned. It was clear Kiana needed to relax even, and he had just the solution to her troubles

"Ahh," Kiana let out a sigh of relief as she, along with Link, and Daruk were resting in the Goron hot springs. "I had no idea how much I needed this"

"I'm glad you're feeling better," Link said, "after fighting that Guardian, you looked more winded than normal."

"eh, that comes with age, little guy," Daruk said

"Hey, are you calling me old," Kiana asked, sitting up

Daruk smiled as Kiana rolled her eyes, lying back down "so Link tells me," she asked, relaxing back in the hot springs, "how are things back at the Domain? I haven't been in a while."

"there doing okay," Link told her. "Bazz, Gaddison, and Rivan are progressing through their training really well," Link smiled. "I even started instructing them when I go there."

"OH, look at you already having students," Kiana smiled "you've grown into quite the knight, I must say."

"yeah, little guy," he smiled "ya know Kiana, he came here and took out at least three monster camps by himself," Daruk boasted "of course I helped, but man, the kid made it look easy."

I bet," Kiana said, "Link has that habit," she smiled "keep this up, and you'll end up on the king's personal guard, kid."

"come on, Kiana," Link started. "I'm nothing too special."

"I'm not sure what's worse," Kiana muttered, "the fact that you said that or the fact that you believe it."

"hey, it a bit humbling," Daruk told her, "allows the kid to see his weaknesses and improve."

"I guess," Kiana said

"speaking of which," Link said, "hey Daruk, we good on that training I asked you about."

"of course, little guy," he smiled, "trust me, by the time we're done, you'll be ten times stronger." he put a fist in the air as Kiana just listened in the day to come. Link would have to be as strong as possible a part of her, she smiled, but she would be there to help and guide him at every step of the way.

"gotcha" Impa's voice rang across the hot spring as Link fell. She started laughing before Link pulled her in "oh no, you don't," she shouted before they ended up laughing.

"hey, we're supposed to relax in the spring, not prance around," Kiana shouted.

"you two are going to get it," Daruk shouted. Hearing the sound of a large splash, Kiana felt her face become extremely wet. She opened her eyes as she glared at Daruk, who only laughed nervously as Kian let out a sigh.

"fine, that it," she shouted as she splashed them with water as well. The sound of laughter rang across the springs. Kiana smiled. The days to come would be hard when the King made his announcement tomorrow. She didn't know what those days would bring, but she would enjoy this small moment.

And here is the chapter. Not much going on here; I just wanted to show off the introduction of the Calamity and reference the divine beast to introduce Impa to the story. I know they probably didn't meet so soon, but I felt that having the characters interact would be an interesting point for Link.

I wanted to show off a unique aspect. Typically, I've noticed in stories that Link is always this social outcast or has an everyday family life but had ripped away from when he got the master sword. While I do enjoy this when writing this, I wanted to make Link the people's hero while also keeping the social outcast among his fellow knights for the amount of praise he receives from everyone a bit of both worlds, if you will.

So, with that, we come to an end to another chapter. Tell me what you think
