Cameron walked out the doors of Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, and was met by the cold wind hitting her face. She pulled her coat tighter around herself and walked quickly towards her car.
She needed to get out of the hospital. She was tired, so tired, that even the prospect of driving home weared her out.
Cameron stopped suddenly, staring at her car some 10 metres away and the person standing in front of it.
"What are you doing?" Cameron asked, edging towards her car and hastily pulling her keys out of her bag.
"Preventing you from killing yourself. You're not driving home," House replied, blocking her way as she made to step around him.
"House, please. I just want to go home," Cameron said, rubbing her temples.
"Yes, I did notice. But you aren't driving. Come on, you're coming with me," House replied, grabbing her wrist and pulling her over to his car on the other side of the parking lot.
"House, for God's sake -"
"Shut up," He cut her off, clicking his car doors open and climbing in.
Cameron stood staring at his car for a moment before shaking her head and climbing into the passenger seat.
"See. That wasn't so hard, was it?" House asked, putting his keys in the ignition and pulling out of the parking space.
"What about my car?" Cameron asked, sighing as they sped along the empty streets of Princeton.
"It's not going anywhere," House replied.
They spent the rest of the trip to Cameron's apartment in silence. Cameron gazed out the window and contemplated House's actions. They had changed. The past couple of days had changed them. Cameron realised this, and as much as it scared the crap out of her to be faced with the possiblities, the change was good.
House slowed down and stopped out the front of Cameron's apartment. They both sat in silence for several minutes, House staring at the dashboard and Cameron at her knees. It was Cameron who broke the silence.
"Why did you do this?" Cameron asked, facing him.
House shrugged. "I told you, you weren't in any state -"
"No," Cameron interrupted. "The real reason. Not the one you made up in your head."
House didn't reply, but continued to stare ahead. Cameron sighed and picked up her bag, opening the door and stepping out of the car.
"Cameron."
Cameron turned around to face him. House was still staring at the dashboard.
"I noticed it too."
Cameron smiled softly and nodded. She knew that was it. All that was going to happen. For the moment.
"Goodnight, House," She said, closing the door.
It only took a few seconds before House's car zoomed off, leaving Cameron standing on the sidewalk, staring after him.
