Malfoy, I shall never understand . . .

by: the Norse Goddess

rated: PG-13 for sexual tension and gratuitous leather

coupling: Lucius Malfoy/Charles Bingley (?)

author's note: To understand this you will have to have seen the BBC 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice (w/Colin Firth) AND you will have to have a cusory knowledge of the Harry Potter books/movies. Anyway, you know the part in Pride and Prejudice after the ball where Darcy and Bingley meet the Bennets? Where they're in Netherfield and Darcy and Bingley are talking by the fireplace? And Bingley says "Darcy, I shall never understand why you go through the world determined to be displeased with everything and everyone in it." Well, this is a bit of a variation on that little scene where Darcy is replaced by . . .

"Malfoy, I shall never understand why you go through the world determined to be displeased with everything and everyone in it."

"And I," Lucius returned, "will never understand why you are in such a rage to approve of everything and everyone that you meet."

Bingley stared at Lucius. His usual cheerful countanance was tinged with a look of hurt disappointment - the result of his friend's sudden, harsh words. Lucius quickly took note of Bingley's injured expression and looked away into the fire burning merrily in the hearth. When he looked up again. Bingley had moved across the room and was gazing out one of the tall windows. Lucius sighed, agitated, and started to walk over to him. "It is," he began when he was by Bingley's side, "a rather pretty piece of countryside, I suppose"
Bingley continued to stare out of the windows at the aforementioned countryside before saying. "You know, Lucius, I wouldn't have you stay and suffer such dissatisfaction merely for my sake. Your family needs your company more than I do and I'm quite sure you would be much happier to be back in your own home." He looked over at his friend. Lucius returned the gaze and narrowed his eyes as though trying to decide something and hoping to find the answer in Bingley's face. Then, he slowly raised a leather gloved hand and let it gently brush across Bingley's cheek. Bingley's questioning look gradually gave way to a slightly pained expression as he closed his eyes. Lucius leaned in slowly, moving his hand downward to cup Bingley's chin, and brought their lips together.
