For arislanchan: L/Light, "come undone"

Layers

Smothered in bandages of lies and half-truths and idealistic beliefs, Light was a pyramid waiting to be cracked. Every step L took had an 80 percent chance of being a trap; every trap he dodged, there was a 99.9 percent likelihood that something else was planned behind it. Side by side, L heard Light's breathing, soft and regular, and could not rest-- each calm, normal thing Light did only added to his list of abnormalities, adding another layer to the silent, faceless mummy of Kira.

How tangled they were. L felt filthy just stepping into them, as if he was being tainted by Kira's very presence, immortally taunting him in the form of Yagami Light, the most studious student in Japan. His brilliance became mangled as it clashed with the swirling precautions of Light's own mind, coiled together like a giant snake. He wanted to pry it open. The snake would bite him, lashing out in self-defence, but L didn't care. He wanted to see. And somehow, in the midst of the chaos, desire had crept in.

Each layer L peeled away, he discarded a little bit of himself. Venturing into Light's heart and mind carried a hard price, a risk on L's part that he'd never been forced to take. His layers were slipping off too. They were sacrificed.

Now, L was just waiting. Waiting for Kira to emerge, waiting and wondering where the demon had gone. He was going to stay with Light until those bandages-- tighter now than ever before-- came undone.
