Trickery

Truth is, Mello should have known better. He should have remembered that L didn't consume only chocolate, like himself, even if the delectable white treat looked like it was actually edible. He should have known. Licking his lips, cringing at the taste of vanilla lingering on his tongue and lamenting the fact that it wasn't white-chocolate ice cream at all, Mello sneered, a futile, flimsy anger burning in his chest.

"Damn you," he hissed. He could feel L grinning like a maniac behind him, Near silent as always, clicking the cheap wheels of a toy train across the playroom carpet. "Just wait. Just wait. I'm going to put chilli peppers in your cake, L."

He smiled, satisfied, at the look of utter disgust that crossed his senior's face. His smirk instantly disappeared, however, when L replied in return,

"Then I will eat all your chocolate."
