What If… It Was An Accident
Ga Eul quickened her pace as the clouds covered the sky. She could not be late for this interview. Finding it pointless to continue reaching her destination on foot, she looked in her purse, 'guess you have to use emergency money at some point' she thought to herself as she called out.
"Taxi!"
Yi Jung looked at his watch for the tenth time, the world was really testing his patience.
"Hey, will my car be fixed soon or are you just wasting my time?" Yi Jung yelled, slamming his palm on his car's hood as his other hand tightened its grip on the umbrella handle.
"I apologize sir, I am almost done," a man from under Yi Jung's orange lotus replied. Yi Jung massaged his temple, from all the days, today was not one to be late. One of his pieces was going to be auctioned for the first time in the So Museum and if he wasn't present his grandfather would skin him alive. Yi Jung shivered as chills ran down his spine as the image came to mind. He could have called someone else to take him but of course he forgot to charge his phone last night. Taking another glance at his watch Yi Jung threw his hands in the air and walked away.
"Taxi!"
"Yah, I called this taxi first!" Yi Jung stated with an angry tone as he sat himself in the back seat.
"Who do you think you are? I clearly sat in first!" Ga Eul replied with the same tone, setting her bag on her lap.
"I am not in the mood for this. Just get out, I have somewhere important to be" Ga Eul scoffed hearing the words come out of the man sitting next to her.
"Mister, the world doesn't revolve around you, we all have important places to be. I called this taxi and got in first so you can get out." Ga Eul gestured towards the door as she looked at the taxi driver and gave him the address of her destination. Yi Jung remained stunned, who was this commoner girl giving him orders.
"Oh. Hello! He is not going to your destination" Yi Jung snapped his fingers in front of Ga Eul's face as he informed the driver of his destination.
"Sir. Madam. Both of you have the same destination." The driver's response shocked both Yi Jung and Ga Eul. 'What would a commoner like her need to do at the museum?' Yi Jung thought to himself as he shifted closer to his side of the window and signaled the driver to go ahead and drive. Ga Eul looked out as the rain tapped on the window.
Rest of the ride was silent as both Yi Jung and Ga Eul weren't interested in having a conversation. Being up all night and waking up so early Yi Jung felt his eyelids get heavier, closing his eyes shut he laid his head gently on the window.
Ga Eul gave attention to her stomach which had been making noises throughout the ride thankfully low enough for her ears only. As another sound reached her ears Ga Eul put her index finger on her lips and looked down at her stomach as she whispered "Yah, from all the days you have to be so annoying today? I'll give you something" switching her gaze to her purse Ga Eul digs in pulling out a Twix, her favorite candy bar. She knew this wasn't going to fill her up but it will have to do for now, taking her first bite she closes her eyes savoring the flavor. One bite after another Ga Eul was down to the last piece, before she could take the next bite due to the bump in the road Ga Eul jumped from her seat for a quick second.
"Sorry madam. This is a bumpy road." Ga Eul nodded her head in response to the driver and shifted her head towards the man next to her who seemed unchanged. Ga Eul was surprised to see the man still fast asleep, shrugging her shoulders Ga Eul turned to sit back in her seat as she went for another bite, only to find the wrapper in her hand. She could have sworn she had one more bite, looking around Ga Eul's eyes widened as she saw her last piece of candy stuck on the lapel of the coat that the man next to her wore. Looking out her window she decided to pretend she didn't see it there but taking a quick glance back at the man she bit her bottom lip 'the suit sure looks expensive' Ga Eul thought to herself as she leaned closer hovering over the figure and slowly peeled off the piece of candy only to see caramel still found on the lapel.
Using the water bottle from her purse, Ga Eul added some water on her thumb and focused her attention to cleaning up the sticky spot. Yi Jung felt a pull on his coat and slowly lifted his eyelids. Turning his head he saw the girl who had sat next to him look up with a smile as her face was only inches away as her eyes remained on his coat.
Shifting her eyes up Ga Eul witnessed the man looking back at her. Before either could react, another bump in the road caused Ga Eul to lose her balance and fall forward. The driver apologized again but gained nothing in response, looking into his rearview mirror he saw the girl sitting closer to the man, although he didn't get a clear few of their faces as the man sat right behind the driver side but the quick glance caused the driver to smile, it was nice that the two got along after the argument they had earlier.
Unknown to the driver Ga Eul fell on top of Yi Jung causing their lips to connect. Both remained frozen with widened eyes as their lips stayed connected to the others. Ga Eul was the first to move back to her seat and look out the window. Yi Jung fixed his coat and was about to question what she was doing but was silenced as the driver suddenly stopped.
"Sir. Madam. You have reached your destination" Yi Jung gave Ga Eul an angry look before handing the driver the fare money and heading out without another word. Ga Eul looked into her purse.
"Madam the sir gave me enough for both of you and even a tip" Ga Eul nodded to the driver and headed out. Taking a deep breath she headed into the museum hoping she would never have to see the man again.
"Ga Eul! You are here!"
"Ugh!" Yi Jung screamed in frustration as he headed into his office. Nothing seemed to be done, all the paperwork was wrong. It was good he fired his old assistant, she really didn't do anything right. Thankfully his grandfather was going to hire a new assistant for him. Yi Jung noted to himself as he sat on his chair rubbing his temple. As he closed his eyes the image of the girl came to mind. Lifting his eyes slowly Yi Jung placed his hand on his lips, before any other thought could be made Yi Jung felt a crumb on the corner of his lips, and cleaned it off. 'Was I eating something before I shifted off to sleep'
"Yi Jung you are here and didn't disappoint me this time!" Yi Jung rolled his eyes as he stood up and turned around. His grandfather walked into his office with a big smile on his face.
"Are we ready for this auction? I am sure you prepared everything and will make this a great one." Yi Jung's grandfather spoke with joy but Yi Jung knew this wasn't a tone of happiness at all, it was a warning.
"Yes grandfather, I have everything done on my end but my assistant didn't do any of the paperwork correctly and I need to do them again"
"Well then this will be great news for you. Ga Eul come in please" Yi Jung shifted his view towards the door as the girl walked in. Yi Jung's eyes widened.
"You!" Both Yi Jung and Ga Eul shouted, pointing at one another.
"Oh you both know each other already? That is great that means I picked the right assistant then"
"Her? Grandfather you can't be serious"
"Yah! Do I look like I am playing a joke here? Ga Eul is the granddaughter of my very good old friend and she was looking for a job and you needed an assistant, there was no better candidate. Ga Eul this my grandson Yi Jung, he is who you will attend to from now on"
"Yi- So Yi Jung. That's you?" Ga Eul spoke with hesitation.
"Even more handsome in person right?" Yi Jung's grandfather commented.
"More like a weasel face in person" Ga Eul whispered in response but both Yi Jung and his grandfather heard her words clearly.
"Excuse me?" Yi Jung's grandfather laughed at their little quarrel.
"Okay well you both have a lot of time to get to know each other. Let's focus on this auction for now shall we." With that Yi Jung's grandfather left the two in the office and headed out.
"Yi Jung took a deep sigh as he looked back at Ga Eul "I don't have time for this, I need to get ready. Here, fix this paperwork. You have an hour, think you can handle it?" Yi Jung handed Ga Eul a pile of paperwork as he raised an eyebrow.
Ga Eul knew an hour wasn't enough but she was dedicated, she nodded her head and was about to head out when Yi Jung called out.
"Oh, and get me a candy bar. I have a weird sweet tooth right now" Ga Eul looked back at Yi Jung as he licked his lips and turned back to attend to his work. Ga Eul pressed her lips together and headed out.
