And I am back with another exciting chapter of Remnant Unleashed. I am glad I am getting a lot of support for this story it means a lot to me, especially since my other RWBY story hasn't been doing so well, which is a good reason why I plan on doing a rewrite of it.
Now, I am not sure if any of you have been keeping up with RWBY and Star Wars, but the live action appearance of Ahsoka Tano in the Mandalorian was awesome, along with knowing the child's name. As for RWBY Volume 8, things seem to be taking a turn for the worst with Oscar's capture and Salem's new type of Grimm. Things don't seem to be looking well for Ruby and the others, but I did love what Weiss did when Whitley returned, even if for a brief moment. Hope that little shit gets his ass handed to him.
Now onto the reviews for the story.
Jack Smith1: Thanks for liking the story and calling it one of your favorites. I noticed you are doing a World at War/RWBY crossover with Sgt. Sullivan. Might I suggest that the man get our favorite red head build him a M1 Garand, B.A.R and M1 Carbine. The guy only has the Thompson and Winchester 1897 which are good at close and medium range. Or maybe you could go Jak and Daxter and have put all the weapons into one, like the Morph Gun. As for the semblance idea of Good Luck, it does seem like a good one, but I think it sounds a lot like Clover's semblance.
Darth Cody: Second Chance sounds pretty good for his semblance.
Luffy L Deathwalker: Of course, it's not Obi-Wan, he won't be appearing for a while, and I don't mean when I get to the movies. Who is the Jedi that was put into stasis again? It's not Asharaad Hett either, but it's not someone from the galaxy far, far, away. Its someone from Remnant.
Mr. Shades42: Teleporting, I think I've seen that in several other RWBY fanfictions. Phasing through walls, isn't that what Shadowcat does in X-Men? Either way, both are good ideas but I'm thinking of maybe using the idea given to me by Darth Cody for Galen's semblance, but maybe I could use the phase semblance for Rick. Need a name for it though.
Spartan-626: Thank you for those kind words. Of course, it was Junior Rick and Robyn were going to pay a visit too. I do try my best with the fight scenes, especially since I do better with dogfights and shootouts. I'm hoping I can do just as good with Mobile Suit Combat and fist fights. For Rick and Neo being friends, I always feel like there is more to Neo than what we already know, especially since Rooster Teeth hasn't really given us any idea as to her background. As for the Scorpion line, I may not play Mortal Kombat, but Scorpion is one of my favorite characters from the game along with Sub-Zero. As for the character, they aren't a new character it's someone who's already made an appearance.
Alright, reviews done, let's get this started. Disclaimers are the same as before. Please enjoy.
Chapter 19: Extracurricular
Dozens of students from all the Academies chattered in one of the area's used for sparring and combat classes. As the last of the students took their seats in the room, Sedyn walked into the area and looked at the students. "My name is Sedyn Merrick, and I am the hand-to-hand combat/CQC instructor of Beacon. It's my job to teach you all how to fight without your weapon." He said to the class.
"Uh, why would we need to know how to fight without a weapon?" Ruby asked.
"A good question, Miss Rose. It is true that a huntsmen and huntress use a weapon in battle, but what if you were to lose your weapon in battle? What if you were called into battle and your weapon is broken or your weapon is undergoing repairs? While using your weapon against the Grimm is effective, you need to learn how to fight against those like the Faunus and your fellow man without a weapon." Sedyn answered, sensing a darkness coming from Cinder and her fellow teammates.
"Now, before I want to call for two volunteers for a sparring match. Any volunteers?" he asked.
"I'll do it." Mercury called out.
"Very well, Mercury, is it? Now, let's find you an opponent." Sedyn answered, before flipping through his Scroll to find Mercury his opponent. However, much like with Cinder, Sedyn sensed a dark presence coming from Mercury and just when it looked like that Mercury was about to choose Pyrrha for his opponent, Sedyn quickly made his choice. "Mr. Marek. You will be Mercury's opponent." He spoke.
"Damn it." Mercury said under his breath before he strutted into the area while Galen passed by a very tired Blake. Days had passed since their investigation and Galen sensed a lot of worry from the Belladonna girl. He could understand, especially considering that Blake, Sun and March reported that Torchwick somehow managed to get his hands on several crates of E-11 blaster rifles and the two AT-ST's that he destroyed.
"Your weapons." Sedyn said to the two combatants. Galen handed the teacher his lightsabers while Mercury simply stated that he had no weapons, but both of them knew that he was lying but didn't say anything despite their suspicions of him and his teammates.
Both students took several steps back from each other and waited for Sedyn to begin the match. "This match will be done in accordance with Vytal Festival tournament rules, so I expect you two to follow them." the Mandalorian said before he began the match.
Mercury was quick to move in for the attack and quickly knocked Galen for a loop with a kick to the chest. "Got to keep your guard up against someone like me." Mercury quipped. Galen didn't get the chance to say anything before Mercury kicked him again in the chest, sending him skidding back a few inches.
Galen glared at Mercury before the silver haired boy came at Galen with another kick when much to Mercury's surprise, Galen dodged the kick before landing a punch in Mercury's gut. "Nice dodge, pity it won't help you win this fight." Mercury said, yawning as if he were bored with the fight. "Can we wrap this up sometime in the next century?"
Galen again glared at Mercury before he dashed towards Mercury, landing a series of punches on Mercury's body, depleting some of his foe's aura a good amount. "Like you said, 'got to keep your guard up'." Galen said to Mercury, challenging the boy to come at him. 'And you didn't know that I allowed you to get a few hits on me for a reason.' Galen thought to himself.
With what looked like to be an explosive force of some kind, Mercury flew towards Galen at high speed and tried to land a drop kick on his opponent, but Galen dodged the blow and kicked Mercury in the back. "Oh, you are in for it now." Mercury said with delight.
In the stands Ruby was cheering for Galen. "Come on Galen! Kick his butt!" she shouted, pumping her fists with excitement. Galen did so, but made it look like he was a novice at hand-to-hand combat. In truth, when he first met Sedyn, he asked for special training in hand-to-hand combat due to his concerns about Mercury and his teammates, which Sedyn also had. The arrangements were put in place so that it seemed like Galen was getting some extra help in his studies.
But that didn't mean Galen couldn't make things interesting for the fight. A couple more hits from Mercury's attacks soon told Galen that it was time to stop holding back. A kick to his jaw, gave Galen the moment he was waiting for. Going in for a flying kick, Mercury thought he had the match in the bag, when to his surprise Galen caught the kick before sending him back.
An uppercut soon followed up, followed by a jab to Mercury's ribs, then a hard punch to the boy's face before a quick call upon the force then pushed Mercury back. Grinning, Galen rushed in before his opponent did something unexpected. "I forfeit." Mercury said non-chalantly.
Galen then skidded to a stop before his fist could make contact with Mercury's face. "That's it? You're giving up, just like that? Your aura isn't even in the red. I'd rather finish this fight." Galen stated.
"What's the point? We're obviously leagues apart. Especially since you have those fancy swords of yours, why humiliate myself?" Mercury asked with a shrug of his shoulders. Galen just glared at Mercury, sensing that he was lying and hiding his true intentions.
Sedyn sensed this as well but played along. "In that case, Galen Marek is the winner of the match." Sedyn said, catching Emerald's smirk and Mercury's smug look. "Perhaps next time, I should consider pair students with those of equal skill." He added. "Alright, now that everyone saw what my class has in store for you, each student is to pair with a member of their team for light contact sparring."
The class went off without any incident and throughout the whole class, both Galen and Sedyn sensed something off about Mercury's other teammate, Cinder. Both of them sensed a dark ambition to be powerful, ruthless, sadistic and ambitious, someone who desired power and would do anything to get it. Something that felt very familiar to them.
By the time the final bell rang, Galen noticed the jolt it gave Blake who was starting to nod off, even during her practice match with Yang. "That is all for today. And I'm sure I don't need to remind all of you, that while the dance is this weekend, you all have your first mission on Monday. Glynda will not accept any excuses and neither will I." Sedyn announced as the students headed out of the classroom. All except Galen. "Something on your mind?"
"Mercury's legs, they're prosthetic. I could feel the metal underneath his clothing when he attacked. Seems like something he didn't tell anyone about, only his team. I also sensed an ulterior motive when he volunteered for the match, he wanted to fight Pyrrha." Galen said.
"I sensed it too. Something is off about him and his teammates. Something that's strong in the dark side." Sedyn said in agreement. "Keep an eye on them, but don't get yourself in trouble." He added.
Galen nodded and exited the classroom to hear Sun asking Blake to the dance, only to be rejected. "I don't have time to worry about a stupid dance. I thought you of all people would get that." Blake said before walking past her team while Sun sinks from the rejection.
"Don't take it personal Sun, she's just got a lot on her mind." Galen said to the monkey Faunus before following after Blake. He followed her all the way to Team RWBY's dorm room.
Inside the dorm room, Blake had just sat down with her arms crossed before she shouted. "You what?" To her teammates.
"We want you to go to the dance." Ruby repeated before she noticed Galen standing in the doorway. "Why don't you come on in Galen? I don't think you want anyone to think you're a creepy boy or anything." She added.
Galen walked in, getting a serious look from Blake. "Why are you here?" Blake demanded.
"I was worried about a friend so I decided to see if I could do anything to help them. I think Ruby is right, you should go to the dance." He said in agreement.
"That's ridiculous." Blake stated.
"Blake, we're worried about you. This investigation is starting to mess with your head." Yang pointed out.
"You can't sleep, you hardly eat and to be honest, your grades are suffering." Weiss added, counting the facts off with her fingers.
"You think I care about grades? People's lives are at stake!" Blake countered, shrugging and gesturing towards the window before Yang put her hand on Blake's hand, lowering it.
"We know, and we're all still trying to figure out what Torchwick is up to." Yang reminded.
"Thanks to you, Sun and March, we know they're operating somewhere outside of southeast Vale." Ruby inputted.
"And the Schnee company records singled out Vale as the primary target for Dust robberies over the last few months." Weiss stated.
"Don't forget about their missing military tech too." Yang added.
"Let's not forget about the walkers and blasters being given to them by the Empire. For all we know, one of the imperial officers managed to make contact with Torchwick and somehow gave him some way to contact the Empire and sell some of their military equipment for a tidy profit for themselves." Galen added.
"But there's still so many unanswered questions!" Blake reminded them.
"Blake, you won't be able to find anything if you can't even keep your eyes open!" Ruby voiced in concern.
"All we're asking is that you take it easy for one day." Yang stated.
"It will be fun! Yang and I will make sure of it." Weiss added which Yang confirmed, much to Blakes surprise. According to Weiss, Team CFVY was originally supposed to be setting up for the dance, but their mission had lasted longer than expected, so Weiss and Yang we're asked to pick up where the second-year team had left off.
Despite the assurance that after a night of relaxing, Blake still thought the dance was a waste of time and said that she would be in the library. "She can't keep going like this." Weiss said before Jaune knocked on the door.
"Hey, guys. Is everything okay? I just saw Blake heading for the library and it looks like she could collapse from exhaustion at a moments notice." Jaune said with concern.
"She's got a lot on her mind." Galen answered. "Is there something you wanted to tell us?" he asked.
"Huh? Oh right, well you guys aren't going to believe this. I asked Pyrrha to the dance and she said yes! Looks like you were right Galen. If I just be myself, people will like me and Pyrrha… well, I think she always liked me. Just wanted to give you guys the good news." Jaune answered. "Hey, if Blake comes back, tell her that my team and I will help her as best we can, if she lets us." He added before walking away.
Galen smiled, happy for Jaune but at the same time, he felt concerned about why Team CVFY was still away on a mission. If what he heard was true, Team CVFY was going to eliminate the large Grimm nest in an area rich with Dust in the Northwest region of Saunus. Surprisingly, word had reached the Schnee Dust Company in Atlas who had already established a mine in the area, but the mine was in close proximity to the Grimm nest and an area on the Vale and Vacuo border.
In days of old, warriors battled for control of location in an effort to establish a foothold for an invasion of Vale or Vacuo. The clashes of the forces battling for this area left the desert littered with the bodies of warriors on both sides and in later years, the wreckage of various fighter planes and bullheads.
Traditionally, the only way through this area was by the railroad which dug out a massive tunnel through the mountains, which the Grimm sometimes hid in only to be killed when they were crushed by the trains. But as air travel continued to advance, the rail line saw less use by passenger trains and more use by freight trains, many of which carried Dust from some of the old mines in Vacuo.
Galen also remembered that Artoria was going with Team CVFY and with a professional huntsman with them, they would have been done before the dance. But the lack of communications bothered him greatly. "Galen, you alright?" Ruby asked.
"Huh?" Galen answered, snapping out of his thoughts. "Oh, yeah I'm ok. I'm just thinking about Team CFVY. Something about this doesn't seem right." He added.
"Yeah, I know what you mean." Ruby said before she cleared her throat. "S-so I was wondering i-if y-you'd like to g-go to the d-dance with me?" Ruby asked with a stutter.
"Sure, it sounds like fun." Galen answered, noticing how nervous Ruby was. "I'll see you on Sunday then." He said and left the dorm room, missing Yang pulling Ruby into a sisterly hug and doing things that an older sister would do.
While the students of Beacon and the students visiting from the other academies were continuing with their studies or talking about the upcoming dance, back at the airbase being used by the Galm Team, Rick and Robyn were returning from a flyby of Vale in an F14 Scimitar with Onyx in Robyn's lap.
A twin-engine, supersonic, twin-tailed, variable-sweep wing, carrier-based fighter aircraft with a top-speed of Mach 2.34, the Scimitar was the primary aircraft of Vale's navy, designed to replace the aging F4 Wasp. As a multirole fighter, the Scimitar could carry up missiles, bombs and rocket pods for engaging both enemy fighters and the creatures of Grimm. Originally, the aircraft used a highly advanced form of AI to act as the pilots Radar Intercept Officer and later a special type of AK-130 designed for such a duty, but during a few escort missions that resulted in attacks by swarms of Grimm, both the AI and AK-130's failed to operate efficiently and also redirected several missiles towards the ships they were escorting.
As a result, the aircraft were then modified to function as either single seater aircraft for combat missions while the two seaters were used as trainer aircraft. In the case of Rick and Robyn, their plane was fully loaded for combat.
The planes armament consisted of two internally mounted 20mm cannons in the nose, carrying twelve-hundred rounds per gun, giving the pilot a total of twenty-four hundred rounds and ten hardpoints. The plane that Rick was flying carried six long-range, radar guided missiles and four short range air-to-air missiles. Useful against enemy fighters that didn't have any type of shielding, like the TIE fighters or Vultures and even the Grimm if one was lucky enough.
"Trigger, you are clear to land." The control tower operator said over the radio.
"Copy that." Rick replied, albeit sadly. As the plane gently touched down, Rick's mind was wrapped around what he discovered only days ago. Still, he maintained his focus and once the plane had landed, he taxied it into the hanger where numerous engineers and technicians, both clone and Faunus waited to begin work on the Scimitar.
"This is a good plane, kid." Cipher said as Rick removed his flight helmet. "Can't believe you don't want to fly it anymore. Still, I wouldn't want to pass up the chance to fly an S35." He said. Rick said nothing and just walked away to his quarters. "So, Miss Hill, is it really true that Roman's new partner is actually the kids' old friend?" he asked.
"I wish it weren't the case. But it is, Aaron. Neo is actually working with the enemy and it's really bugging him." Robyn answered, before she started to tell Cipher everything.
Neopolitan, better known as Neo, was Ricks childhood friend. They first met in kindergarten and the two were quick to become friends. Both of them used to hang out every day after school both of them talking about the future and wanting to become a huntsmen and huntress.
They did everything together from training, studying or just being regular kids. Those were the days Rick wished would last forever, but those days came to an end two years ago when both he and Neo were caught in a White Fang attack on a local shop that refused to serve the Faunus. As a result, the attack not only killed many people but trapped both Rick and Neo in the wrecked shop. Rick was lucky to get only a few scrapes and bruises, but Neo suffered the worst of the two of them.
Her ribs were cracked, she suffered internal bleeding and somehow, she lost her ability to speak. Seeing his friend in pain, Rick did what any normal person would do and tried to help them but the smoke from the fire that was caused by the attack caused him to pass out. When he awoke, he found himself in the hospital and the staff claimed he was lucky to be alive.
But as for Neo, the doctors told him she had died from smoke inhalation just an hour before he awoke. His heart sank when he heard the news and closed himself off from the rest of the world for weeks, only coming out to eat, sleep and work on his weapon which he and Neo built together.
After finally returning to his old self, Rick continued to his training to become a huntsman as a way to honor Neo and her dream to be a protector of the people. So, one could imagine the shock that Rick felt to learn that his best friend was still alive and somehow working with Torchwick. "Neo, how are you still alive and what made you decide to work with a scumbag like Roman?" Rick said to himself as he entered his quarters and closed the doors.
Back in the hanger, Robyn finished telling Aaron and Larry about Ricks connection to Neo and needless to say, both members of the Galm team were shocked for the lack of words about this revelation. "Damn, I didn't think the kid went through something like that. I mean, to know that your best friend is working with the enemy. That's gotta be hard for anyone, especially someone his age." Larry said.
"Was his friend a pilot?" Cipher asked.
"Not that I know of. His sister told me everything about her and while I never had a chance to meet her before all of this craziness started, I heard that she was a kind and caring person. Though I think it's safe to say that it's possible that since she's working with Roman and whoever else that creep is working with might have given her flying lessons." Robyn answered. "I still don't understand how she is still alive if the docs said she was dead. Maybe someone faked her death and told her lies about Rick or something." She theorized.
"Whatever the case is, I've got a feeling that it's not going to end well for the two of them. But then again, maybe he might be able to snap her back to her old self." Cipher said hopefully. Larry and Robyn agreed but at the same time, both of them knew that it was going to be difficult for Trigger.
The day went on normally for the rest of Vale and by the time night fell, Jaune and Pyrrha were once again sparring on their spot on the roof. For a moment, it appeared Jaune had gained the upper hand, but that advantage was lost when Pyrrha swept his legs out from under him. "Well done! Your swordplay's improved immensely." Pyrrha said with a laugh before helping Jaune to his feet.
"I couldn't have done it without you." Jaune admitted
"So, are you ready to move on to Aura?" Pyrrha asked.
"Yeah." Jaune answered, turning his head in the direction of the stars.
"Jaune, what's wrong?" Pyrrha asked.
"Its… well it's just that I feel like that something bad is about to happen. I mean, those things that attacked us in Forever Fall, I get the feeling that we're going to be seeing them again. But don't you think it's a bit odd that Galen knew a something about them. I mean, we really don't know much about him but he's still a nice guy." Jaune answered.
"I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. But I do admit that Galen's identity is something I am curious about myself. Still, I'm sure that he'll tell us when the time is right." Pyrrha assured Jaune, who smiled. "Not to change the subject or anything, I'm surprised that you actually asked me to the dance. You're the only one who asked me about the dance. I thought that…" she began.
"Stop. Pyrrha, please just stop." Jaune said. "I asked you to the dance because I like you. Your more than just a teammate to me, you're a friend. I don't care about your title, achievements or anything like that. I see you as a normal person and I know that Ren and Nora feel the same way. Besides, if I went after Weiss, she'd probably just reject my advances. Must have something to do with people asking her out because of her last name." Jaune added.
Pyrrha smiled and once Jaune was ready, the two began to work on Jaune's aura hoping to unlock his semblance before the Vytal Festival.
But while the two of them practiced, in the dorm room of Cinder, Mercury and Emerald, said black haired girl sat on one of the beds, sewing a black dress as Emerald began to say the names of several students they had observed. "And finally, Pyrrha Nikos." Emerald said.
"Ah, the invincible girl." Cinder answered before turning to Mercury. "You were supposed to fight her in the class, yet you agreed to fight Mr. Marek. Why didn't you request to fight Pyrrha?" she asked.
"Call it curiosity." Mercury answered, reading a comic book. "Something about that guy really made me want to let loose and take on someone who's a challenge. I mean, he is a Jedi, and I did get a little knowledge about his fighting style." He added.
"Do tell." Cinder asked, curiously.
"I couldn't tell what his semblance is, maybe he doesn't even have one, but he is skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Not as skilled as me, but he's pretty good." Mercury answered. "Yet, he did manage to avoid several attacks like he knew they were coming, maybe it's his abilities that allowed him to realize where my attacks were aimed at, but I can't really say for certain." He added.
"Interesting." Cinder said. "Even if we didn't get what we needed from Pyrrha, we were able to learn a bit about our mysterious Jedi student. Add him to the list." She instructed Emerald.
The green haired girl did so before Mercury looked to Cinder. "You should be able to take him no problem." He gloated.
"It's not about overpowering the enemy. It's about taking away what power they have. And we will, in time." Cinder reminded him.
"But what if he doesn't have a semblance? Let's not forget, that bounty hunter, Boba Fett said that Jedi are skilled in 'the Force' and their weapons are far more deadly than anything we've ever seen. For all we know, he could have figured out who we are and what are plan is. I'm doubting you or anything, Cinder but I don't think we can handle him on our own." Emerald stated.
"True." Cinder said, putting down her dress and pulling out a box which contained a cylinder object. A pressed of the button on the cylinder told both Mercury and Emerald that what she had was a lightsaber, with a blood red blade. "But he doesn't know that we have an ace in the hole, in both our powers and allies." She said before shutting down her weapon.
"I hate waiting." Mercury groaned.
"Don't worry, Mercury. We have a fun weekend ahead of us." Cinder assured him.
Meanwhile, dozens of miles away from Vale and Beacon, in the area where they were assigned for their mission, Team CVFY was about to be in for the fight of their lives, against an enemy they had never faced before.
And chapter is done. For those who forget, Sedyn Merrick is the OC given to me by ComparedDread12, has been paired with Professor Peach, per his request and is the Jedi General of the 332nd armored legion which are working on the new vehicles.
I gave a bit of background on Neo and Ricks relationship, Ruby asked Galen to the dance, Jaune has a really bad feeling that something is off about Galen, Cinder and her cronies are planning for their plan and Cinder has a lightsaber!
Where did she get it? Who gave it to her? Is she connect to the Force? Only time will tell.
Team CVFY is in for a fight they will remember. Will they survive? You'll find out next chapter, which will include dogfights and a scene some of you may remember from the 2003 Clone Wars micro series.
Until next time, please read and review.
