Chapter 16 – Through the Dark
Rose woke up with a throbbing in her head and neck, they were in a bright room with a slanted ceiling. Hugo, who wasn't awake, was on the other side of the room tied to a wooden dinning chair. After her vision clear a bit, she saw that Hugo had been injured with blood dripping down his arm. The adrenaline hit like a train if she wasn't also restrained, she would have checked on him, where is Lyra? What happened to Hugo? There was an opening to her right that looked like a doorway and made her way quietly towards it by lifting her chair.
There was a piercing scream from Lyra in the next room and that's all it took for Rose to stand and charge out the doorway and into the hallway. A man guarded the room next do with a closed door.
The man tapped on the door and pulled out his wand, "Sir, the weasel mother is awake." Merlin of course I don't have my wand.
The door opens revealing an old man with a bit of a hunch in black robes and long dead straight white hair exited the room. It was Lucius Malfoy.
"What did you do to my daughter?" Rose spat while trying to think of a way to get into that room.
"No need for you to be concerned anymore, she's becoming acquainted with the glorious symbol of our bloodline. She will be raised in our careful hands."
There's something dangerous in that room with my child. "If you so much as scratch her you will regret it, I'll haunt you for the rest of your days, I can promise that."
Another scream had magical force behind it as all the windows exploded forcing everyone to step back. Rose launched back onto the two back chair legs, breaking them and one of the arm rests. Just then the men recovered and pointed their want at Rose.
"If you don't want us to kill both you and that girl, I suggest you cooperate." The wizard that looked more like a thug beside Lucius.
While still struggling to get her hand loose, Lucius interjected, "Actually you could make yourself useful," he turned to the other man, "retie her so she can walk."
"Yes sir." The man re tired the rope with this wand and lifted Rose with magic.
"Now my dear heiress to the Malfoy name, we'll consider renaming you to a more traditional name later, but, if you don't want your mummy to get hurt then you have to do as we say."
Rose floated closer to look into the room. Lyra sat in the corner curled up with her teddy bear surrounded by broken glass and a huge Python sat in front of her, head raised looking straight at her. "No Lyra, mummy is fine don't worry about mummy. Daddy will be here soon so hang on until then ok sweetie."
"Ha that useless boy won't make it here in time," Lucius laughed confidently.
That's when Lyra whispered, "Daddy."
As she did there was a loud pop outside the house. Finally, the cavalry arrived. There was fighting and confused screams from downstairs, as Lucius directed the man to go investigate, he let his concentration go for a second long enough for Rose to run into the room with Lyra and pull the door closed behind her. The Python started towards Rose and started curling around her leg. She let go of the door for a split second and saw a wand rolling around down the hallway. She stretched out her hand and summoned the wand. As it flew into her hand the snake reached her hip, but once she cast Vipera Evanesca it fizzled out of existence.
Rose ran straight to Lyra, stepping on some of the unavoidable glass in the process. Once in her arms Lyra sobbed so hard her body shook then she passed out. All she could feel was the tremendous relief that Lyra was not severely hurt. Rose patted the curls and back of her beautiful daughter with one eye on the door for other threats. A creak from the door caused a surge of adrenaline. Rose stood, winced and pointed the wand at the door. But it was her mother and Scorpius, staring at the mess and looking relived, well Scorpius looked more like a zombie. He, who was wearing shoes, walked straight to the two, picked up Rose bridal style and carried out of the room. Hermione patted the heads of the two on the way past planting a kiss on Roses forehead. When Rose caught a glance of the other room she quickly turned to her mother, "Mum, Hugo's hurt."
"He's already apparated to the hospital, and now you are going there too," Hermione reassured her daughter.
Scorpius said nothing but nodded as they all apparated to the hospital.
As they waited for the nurse attendant to see if they had a doctor available, Scorpius held them both tightly. Rose looked up at Scorpius, there were silent tears dripping down his face.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt?" Rose asked alarmed and checking him for injuries.
He shook his head, "I got you back, I wouldn't forgive myself if I lost you two. You are both my whole world."
Of course, that's when the doctor came to take both to get checked out. Which left Scorpius to wait alone, but Rose didn't mind because that gave her time to think over being with him again.
As Rose had been healed and Lyra was getting her check up while clinging to Rose, Esme approached the bed, Rose felt every emotion she'd felt come rushing back all at once. The two cried as they hugged tightly, it had been too long since she had seen her best friend, all the stress melted away. Once the two recovered, Esme said, "Sooo what's happening with the major hottie outside," She winked at Rose. Rose laughed so hard she coughed, "I not full sure yet but one thing I know for sure, I still love him." She smiled down at her daughter and pushed the hair out of her face.
"Well, duh I knew that ages ago," Esme teased and the two giggled.
Lyra looked up at Rose with big blue eyes, "You luv Daddy?"
"Yes lovely, I love your dad," Rose continued to pat her head.
"Then does that mean he'll stay forever now?" Damn those curious child eyes and brains, I don't know!
"Well…"
A voice interrupted Rose, "Only if you mother says I can."
Rose's heart caught in her throat, as Scorpius appeared out of seemingly thin air. God damn children making people say things without being aware. Can I hide? Is it too late to just run?
Then before she can reply her parents arrive and frantically check both over.
Hermione sighs with relief, "Thank goodness you're both not hurt, I was seriously close to bringing every possible muggle and magical force to find you."
Ron gave Rose a bear hug, "Dad, I'm ok now, you don't have to worry ok."
"Rosie, never scared me again like that."
"Ok ok, I promise I won't," Rose patted his back and as he pulled away, she remembered, "How's Hugo? Is he ok?"
"They are healing him now; he had a bad gash on his side and arm along with a few bruises, but they can be healed. He should wake up soon and your father will bring him home."
She let out another sigh of relief, Thank merlin he's ok.
"Well how about a nice meal and a rest at home?" Hermione was eager to get everyone out of the hospital and to a place she knew was the most comforting.
"Sure, but I just have something to discuss with Scorpius, can you go on ahead?" When Rose tried to give Lyra to Hermione she screamed and cried bitterly. It's probably fair enough given what we went through today. "Actually Scorp, why don't you come with us, and I can talk to you after we get a certain little gnome to sleep?"
"That's fine," He smiled and nodded. The group walked out to the main entry and disapparated home.
