Marauders: Studying

There were a couple of things that Remus Lupin thought set him apart from everyone else. First and foremost was a certain problem he wasn't apt to think very kindly of, but the others… the other things Remus couldn't help but feel a strange sort of pride for.

And the thing he felt the most pride for was this: he could do homework.

Now, that in itself wasn't anything most people would bat an eye at (with the exception of Peter – the way that boy complained, one would think homework was a terror worse than death itself). But here was the clincher: he could do homework while Sirus Black and James Potter were in the same room.

"Please tell me that's not a book on Herbology…"

And here, Remus thought, caught somewhere between an inward sigh and a smile, was a prime example of what made his concentrating abilities so extraordinary.

"I'm afraid it is, James old pal," Sirius replied, mournfully placing one hand over his heart. "There might not be a thing we can do for him…"

Remus tapped his quill to his chin, pretending to be blissfully unaware of the imminent banter.

Now, according to the passage, the leaves from an Alihotsy could be used to cause hysteria. Probably just a bit of filler information for the chapter, but it might be useful later on…

"But try to do something we must!" James declared, raising an eyebrow expectantly at Sirius.

"Upon pain of death, I'll do my best to make him lighten up and quit studying his brains out," assured Sirius, repeating his earlier gesture. "You have my word."

James fell silent, but Remus didn't glance up. Any scrap of attention would only encourage the dark-haired boys.

Besides, the next page was far more interesting than whatever James's silence might mean. The notes on fanged geraniums were bound to show up in some way on the test.

Or… perhaps the silence was the more interesting thing. Especially when Remus considered the fact that two rather ominous shadows had fallen over him and his study materials.

"James."

"Sirius."

Somehow, Remus managed to keep his book open and continue reading even as James and Sirius both looped an arm under either of his and lifted him bodily from his armchair, proceeding to drag him backwards across the common room.

This wasn't a loss for the cause of studying, though. No, not in the least.

How could it be thought of as anything but a victory when he'd managed to discover just now (despite James and Sirius cheerfully debating the possibility of throwing him in the lake) one of the many – and possibly test-question worthy – qualities of screechsnaps?

Remus had once again managed to learn something when most normal Gryffindor students would need to retreat to the safety of their rooms.

Though… that might have been something he should have done himself. Sirius and James sounded serious about this whole businessof tossing him in the lake...

Author's Note: Short and sweet, mm? Hey everyone, this is Jade again, back at last. Would it surprise you to know this is for the awesome J-chan? Wrote Politics for her on the last drabble challenge, I do believe.

But yes, anyway. Please enjoy it, the fractured insanity of my mind at two in the morning.
