Chapter 2.
Happy birthday to me. You get a chapter and I hopefully get reviews. thanks to everyone for reading following, reviewing, and favorite-ing. especially about the pairings.
It turned out Andromeda wanted to get out too. When they warned her about the fact that Greyback was most definitely going to be coming for Hermione she accepted the risks of staying with them. She said she would rather take the risks of staying with them than setting out alone.
So Harry, Hermione, Andromeda, and Teddy quickly packed up essentials, and together they gathered at Grimmauld Place to decide where they were going.
Hermione vetoed the idea of going to Australia. She didn't think she could face the land where she lost her parents because of a spell she herself cast.
They considered going to Europe but decided it was still too close to England and they wanted another continent. They had decided to stick with English-speaking countries, for Harry's sake.
After all that they were leaning towards going somewhere in Canada that way they would still be in the British Commonwealth, they just weren't sure where in Canada to go.
It was Andromeda who has second thoughts about Canada. They didn't want to make it too easy for the werewolf to find them. So at last it was decided, America. Andromeda also suggested going to a small town, that way they could bank on people talking about new people coming into the area. Then if Fenrir Greyback did come to town people would most certainly be talking about him.
Teddy was the one who finally picked a spot on the map, Forks Washington. Harry then went to Kingsley who explained what was going on and the plan. Kingsley, as the interim Minister for Magic, was able to provide them with a set of portkeys, off the record as well as smoothing the way for them to go to another country. He then provided Harry and Hermione with paperwork showing that they had diplomatic immunity. He apologized that he couldn't get one for Andromeda. He warned them to only use it in the case of an emergency.
Together after setting off the other portkeys that they hoped would lead Fenrir on a merry chase, they gathered around the last portkey set to Seattle Washington.
Together they went shopping in the magic district they stocked up on everything they might possibly need. Then when they were ready to head into No Maj Seattle Harry asked the golden question.
"So how are we getting to Forks?"
"We can't apparate because we have never been there. A portkey would defeat the purpose of leading those false trails for Fenrir to follow and there is nowhere close to it to floo to. " Andromeda pointed out.
"I thought we could either get a cheap car to buy or rent something for a day."
"OOH Buy!"Harry exclaimed with wide eyes. but nothing cheap. I have always wanted a car."
"Harry, do you drive?" Hermione asked.
"Not yet, but apparently you do. and I want you to teach me."
Hermione paled thinking about giving Harry lessons driving in America. It was going to be enough of a hair-raising experience driving on the right side of the road. "I promise we will get you lessons, but maybe we should start out with something cheap to learn in. It has been a while since I drove." Hermione very carefully didn't promise she would be the one to give him lessons and tried to direct him back to the inexpensive vehicles.
Harry was not going for it. He wanted a Shelby Mustang GT500 like from the movie Gone in 60 Seconds. So that was what he was going to get. It took almost all day to find one and it was in perfect condition.
Hermione's anxiety was steadily mounting as they watched the car be pulled around in front for them to really get a closer look.
"Harry, I can't drive that. What if I scratch the paint job, what if I total it on our way to Forks? What if..."
"Hermione, it's ok we will just shrink it down and go to Forks in your car."
Hermione blinked in surprise. "My car?"
Harry smiled and handed her a set of keys just as another salesman pulled a Ford Shelby Super Snake in a ruby red before them.
"Harry, what? Why? Ug!" Hermione was totally discombobulated.
"I think I broke her," Harry jokingly told Andromeda who had a large smile on her face as she cuddled Teddy close.
"Harry, I can't accept this, this car is worth more than some houses, plus I have no way of paying the insurance. Thank you so much but I can't." She said feeling warm inside because Harry wanted to do such an awesome thing for her.
"Don't worry about it. I have it all taken care of. and of course, you can accept it. Hermione, remember when we did the ritual to make each other siblings in blood as well as spirit? Well, that entitled you to half. I just came into the majority of my inheritance it's more than I could spend in 10 lifetimes." Harry explained.
"Har..." Hermione started to object.
"No Hermione! You are my sister you can't give it back. So get used to it!" Harry demanded. "Now we need to get on the road, Teddy is tired and we have a ways to go yet."
Hermione knew it was impossible to argue with Harry when he got like this so she decided to accept it for now.
"Ok, I won't argue for now. I just have to say, thank you for wanting to do something so amazing for me."
"You are welcome Hermione and I didn't just want to do it... I did it. The car is in your name and there is insurance on it for the next year while we figure things out so don't worry about anything."
Together they hugged and Hermione tried to secretly wipe her eyes of a few stray tears. Harry and Andromeda caught it though and together they smiled.
"Mi Mi I'm hungry," Teddy interrupted the touching scene.
"Oh, I'm sorry little man. Let's go get some food and get on the road." Hermione answered him.
Still getting on the road was quite the project as they couldn't just shrink Harry's Shelby down in the middle of the Ford car lot. Hermione had to drive them all in Harry's car to the back of a diner to get food then apparated back to the dealership to get her car.
Once there she got the feeling of someone watching her so she quickly took her...no...Harry's other car and went to get the rest of the others.
The feeling of being watched didn't dissipate until they were well on their way out of town. Hermione only hoped Fenrir hadn't already caught up with them.
It was a couple of hours later that they just passed La Push and were nearing the halfway point between LaPush and Forks when Hermione saw a little dirt road off to the side of the road. Pulling in she declared that she was too tired to push on and look for someplace for them to stay tonight.
"I'm sorry Harry, Andromeda; I think we are going to have to spend the night in the tent. I know you didn't want to but I am pooped."
"No problem Hermione, but don't bother getting out that old tent...I bought a new one." Harry explained.
"Oh thank goodness," Andromeda cried out ready for some sleep herself.
Harry concentrated on putting up the tent while Hermione worked on the wards. Meanwhile, Andromeda got a grumpy Teddy ready for sleep.
Once the tent was up Hermione finished her wards causing it to disappear to everyone except the people keyed to the wards. With a tired yawn, they all entered the tent no one noticing the eyes that watched them disappear into the darkness.
