Chapter 7. Should I stay or should I go?
I still don't own Harry Potter or Twilight. Thanks go to Sharrie/Dance in the dark for looking this over for me for the things that are different in Brittan compared to America.
The Pack was not happy with Jacob. First, he got caught, then he'd willingly turned back into a human in front of other humans. Now he was drinking coffee and talking in a monotone voice. Something weird was going on. A good bet that it was the people who'd appeared out of nowhere who were responsible for it.
Paul growled low, wanting nothing more than to attack and figure out what was going on once they had Jacob safely back talking like a human being again and not an automaton.
"They have done something to him," he growled.
"Stay back Paul. Yes, they did something to him but the girl that did it is his imprint! You know our highest law."
"Is she really his imprint or did she magically make him think he was?" Paul asked with narrowed eyes.
"It was pretty authentic." Sam stated. "You can't attack her. Besides, listen to what they are asking him. It is pretty obvious they are worried about this Greyback."
"What kind of a name is Greyback anyway? He sounds like a mountain gorilla."
Hermione turned to Harry, "What do you think?" she whispered.
"Just to be safe, maybe we should move on," Harry advised.
Hermione was about to object, saying, "But school," when Jacob interrupted.
"No! Please don't move on!" he was very much alarmed. Instantly Harry and Hermione turned back to him suspicion clouding their eyes.
"Why not?" Harry asked narrowing his eyes as he closely watched Jacob. Unfortunately for Harry and Hermione Jacob had already burned through the Veritaserum.
"It's hard to explain, but I will you just…you need more information. Please, before you move on, will you come to a bonfire we have at the beach and listen to an explanation?"
Jacob was desperate, he could see Harry wanting to leave and Hermione was feeling torn. He had to get them to agree to come, he just had to. It was either that or he would follow her wherever she was to go. That is, if he could. His imprint and her friend had incredible abilities and magic on their side. What if he couldn't follow her? His inner wolf whined in pain at the very thought.
"Maybe we should allow Andromeda and Teddy a vote," Hermione suggested wanting to listen to the more information he wanted to give.
"O.K. But if everyone else wants to move on…."
"Then we will," Hermione promised.
"Let's get Andy and Teddy out here and then we can make a decision."
Jacob was worried. He didn't want to lose Hermione, they were talking about leaving, and he wasn't sure he would be able to follow if they did. He found his imprint that he had dreaded and discovered that he couldn't understand why he had felt that way in the past. Hermione blew Bella out of the water and out of his heart. Of course, it helped that he had recently realized that Bella had been using him and stringing him along.
He could tell just from looking in her eyes that Hermione wouldn't ever treat anyone that way. Was he in love with Hermione? Probably not, he had only just met her. Yet, she had suddenly become his light in the darkness the gravity keeping him grounded to the earth and when he looked in her eyes, he also felt like he could fly. He could accomplish anything if only he had her by his side.
Andromeda and Teddy were hesitant to come out of the tent. But, after Hermione and Harry both answered some security questions and promised that they had vetted Jacob they both emerged from the tent and appeared in the clearing.
Jacob blinked in surprise when Teddy suddenly looked like he could be his little brother even though when he emerged from the tent, he looked Caucasian with blond hair and blue eyes. Now he had brown hair and brown eyes, he took only one look at Jacob and said, "Woof. Woof! Anny."
Harry and Hermione explained what was going on to Andromeda, while Teddy kept trying to go to Jacob though she had a death grip on him and was holding him close to her heart. The lockdown had truly frightened her.
Finally, Jacob explained a little about his people. He also explained that they were all invited to the next bonfire to hear about the histories and stories of his people. "Please," Jacob pleaded soulfully. "Don't leave yet I really need to explain something to Hermione, and you really need to hear the stories to get the full context."
"Can't you explain it now, tell the stories now?" Andy asked wanting all the information before they decided whether to risk staying and trust the pack or whether to leave and try to find somewhere else to stay.
"Billy, my father, really tells the stories the best. I…I'm not sure I could do them justice. Plus, I really should get approval from my Alpha before explaining this to you all."
"I think we should leave," Andromeda stated at last. "It isn't worth the risk."
"Please, I am begging you to change your mind. We really won't tell anyone outside of the tribe about your being here. We couldn't really to begin with, we have been cut off from magicals for a long time."
"Woof! Woof!" Teddy cried out again and this time pulled away from Andromeda and ran over to Jacob. Jacob cocked his head in confusion. The little boy smelled a little like a wolf himself. "How does he know I am a wolf? And how is it that he smells like us?" Andy cocked a half smile as she considered Teddy who was practically begging to know more about Jacob and his people.
"Alright, I've changed my mind. We can stay for the bonfire, but after we have another discussion about possibly leaving." Andy put in her vote and Hermione smiled happily.
"I suppose... that means we are going to the bonfire," Hermione stated.
"Fine, but I don't like it. Fenrir isn't hunting me, he is hunting you and possibly Teddy, I don't think it is worth the risk, but I have been outvoted," Harry stated.
Jacob couldn't help himself, he growled at hearing that this Fenrir was hunting his precious imprint and the boy he was starting to feel like could be pack. "What does that Fenrir guy want with her and the boy?" Jacob asked again, his voice becoming gruff and growly.
The three magicals looked to each other and Hermione nodded at the silent communication that was going on there. "After the bonfire, should we agree to stick around then we will explain," Hermione promised.
Jacob sighed. Why weren't they answering any of his questions? A part of him wanted to ask for some of whatever they gave him to get him talking so freely, to give his imprint. Maybe then he would get some answers.
A.N. OK so I need to make the final decision on who else is going to be a mate for Hermione. I am hoping for a vampire, but I am having a hard time deciding which one. Anyone with passionate feelings about this should speak up now or forever hold your peace. Oh, and from my standpoint they are NOT dead. Just immortal I will go into more details later about why they are not dead. Just in the meantime please help me figure out who else to put Hermione with? I was leaning toward Either Jasper or Emmett. A part of me wants to choose Emmett because he is so free and fun. He has a playfulness about him that is very attractive to me. You can even suggest Edward, just please support yourself as to why you think one person over another.
sorry about the long wait I had a lot of things going on including a death in the family.
