The sounds of unmoving traffic in the morning, constant honking, with no sign of stopping any time soon. Chris had his head on the steering wheel, he had went out to work, which usually wasn't too much of a hassle. Since he and Daniel worked at the same fast food restaurant, they often went together, so even if there was bad traffic, he would have somebody to talk to. "Jesus christ! I swear it's probably a couple of fucking school buses," Chris grumbled as he pulled out his phone. No notifications from any group chats he was in, no texts from Dan, he was bored out of his mind. The truck in front of him finally started moving, which made Chris cheer. He had hit the gas and yelled when the car only moved a couple of feet.
"God, I'm gonna be late for work at this rate," Chris leaned his head on the back of his seat and groaned. The honking around him started picking up, then the driver next to him got out of their car and started running back the way he came. Everyone around Chris's car was actually. "I… Why is everyone running away?" Chris tried to get a good peek, but the truck in front of him obstructed his view. "I swear to god, if a goddamn Salamence lands on top of my car," Chris's ears were met with a symphony of metal being crushed. In response, Chris covered his ears and looked out the passenger side's window. The car next to him got totaled, the hood of the car was smashed, and the windows were completely shattered. Luckily the driver was long gone, but that made Chris wonder, what the fuck managed to crush a car?
Whatever the answer was, Chris didn't want to find out, he remained completely silent. He didn't even move a muscle, just kept his eyes looking forward, hoping that this all would end. Chris's phone went off, Dan had sent him a text message with an image in it, which made Chris's life flash before his eyes. "Damn you Dan," he whispered. While Daniel likely didn't know what was happening right now, Chris knew he had just been screwed by his best friend. "If I get out of this alive, I'm gonna slam a cream pie in your face," he said.
Chris stopped breathing when something peeked into his window, it had a lizard-like face and blue eyes. It was orange and had a couple of horn like structures on the back of its head. Its neck was long like a dragon's and also had a couple wings that greatly resembled a dragon. Any avid Pokemon fan worth their salt would know what they were looking at. It was a Charizard, looking dead at him, which sent a shiver down Chris's spine. While trying his best to remain calm, Chris hastily undid his seat belt, and opened the door. "H-hey buddy, you're not gonna chase me down and rip my arms off right?" Chris slipped out of the car. Without a second thought of what could happen, he ran for some kind of shelter.
That didn't seem to exactly fly with the dragon, as it was immediately in the air, and hot on Chris's trail. With a mighty roar, it was directly flying over the boy's head. Chris looked behind him and then up at the sky. "Shit!" Chris picked up the pace. He was running in the complete opposite driection everyone else had ran in, as there was sure to be a long line of cars. He ran for what felt like hours, just trying not to be a dragon's meal. He made it to a stop sign, which seemed to be the end of all the traffic. There it was, the Wendy's, butthe blinds were down. Despite the adrenaline rushing through his body, it was begining to give in to fatigue. "Help!" Chris tripped over the curve and fell onto the grass.
"Yo Chris, if you still can, turn your car around and head home. There was a Charizard that was spotted at the restaurant," Daniel sighed as he settled the phone down. "Hey Ninetales, I'mma head after Chris," he pointed at the news that was playing on TV. Much to Ninetales' disappointment, Dan had swapped the channel back to the news, and immediately saw the news. Ninetales and Vulpix were quick to follow their trainer out the door. "Guys, this is gonna be dangerous. You could get burnt alive," Daniel said. Ninetales opened the door and ran out; he knew his trainer didn't stand a chance against a Charizard. "Hey!" Daniel ran out the door, Vulpix close behind him. He slammed the door shut.
Daniel didn't even bother buckling his seat belt, choosing to gun down the road as fast ss he could. The streets were now empty after the warning on the news, save for a couple cars left behind by their owners. Ninetales sat in the driver's seat, eyes dead set on the road in front of him. "What the actual fuck?" Dan hit the brakes as he saw a huge line of cars. "There is no fucking way," Dan stepped out of his car. "Chris!" Daniel yelled. There was no way Chris could've gotten out of this alive, there were too many cars, nowhere to hide, and no stopping a two hundred pound dragon from finding you in this. Ninetales dashed down the street from behind his trainer, Vulpix had followed suit; they needed to get to Charizard before Daniel did. Ninetales stopped for a second when he saw a car that had its roof caved in.
"Vulpix, do you smell anything?" The fox asked. "Yup, Chris got out," he gestured further down the strest. "He ran that way if my nose is right," Vulpix said. They could hear their trainer shouting after them, he was doing his best to keep up with Ninetales and Vulpix. "Stay here and lead Dan, I'll run ahead," Ninetals ordered. "Got it," Vulpix sat down as Ninetales bolted down the street.
Chris sat up as soon as he had fell, while his legs had given up, he hadn't yet. If he was going to die, then he wasn't going to go down without a fight. Thump! The heavy dragon landed before him, cracking the side walk as he did. "What do you want from me?" Chris asked. He tried getting up, only for him to fall back down, Charizard was unmoving. It simply stared at the human, without moving an eye. "Well? Are you going to rip my limbs off? Eat me alive? Fucking hurry up!" Chris settled on having to kneel on one leg. Charizard lowered its head towards the boy. Chris closed his eyes and braced for the never ending void of the after life. The only thing he felt was something nudging him, maybe Charizard was toying with him, and was trying to make Chris lower his guard.
"Quit it already," Chris opened his eyes, to see Charizard simply sniffing at him. "Just end me," he said. The dragon looked at him, tilted her head, and then shook it. "Ninetales!" Chris looked past his attacker, a Ninetales was growling, like it was getting ready to fight over a kill. Its tails wagged for a second when it saw Chris's face. Charizard turned its head, before using its arms to lift Chris onto his feet. It didn't fly off and then made the boy lean on its shoulder. "I thought Charizard loved destruction," Chris said.
"What are you doing with my human?" Ninetales asked. He lowered down, and got ready to strike. "I saw this human sitting in a car. I might have accidentally crushed somebody else's car in the process of trying to greet him," Charizard said. "So… how do I know you aren't going to eat him?" Ninetales asked. Charizard almost looked offended. "We Charizard aren't a bunch of mindless beasts. We only attack things we consider strong, if I wanted to kill this human, he would be dead right now," Charizard sighed. "I was merely looking for some company this morning and instead I get treated like a monster," she nudged Chris to make sure he was still alive.
"Chris!" Daniel tripped and fell as he came to a stop. "Dan, I'm alright," Chris said. Charizard nudged Chris again and made a light growl. "You're scary as fuck," Chris said before sighing. "Ninetales was getting ready to fight Charizard and then they started talking. I don't know what the heck they're saying, but I'm not dead yet," Chris said. "You texting me almost got me killed by the way," he said. "I didn't think you were staring that thing in the eyes," Daniel ran in and hoisted Chris onto his shoulder, which Charizard didn't protest. "Say, you wanted to be a Charizard when you were six," Daniel joked. "Yeah, before I could comprehend that these things can kill me," Chris and Dan laughed. This was met with a growl from Charizard.
Chris pushed himself off of Daniel and stumbled his way back to Charizard. He took the Pokemon's chin in his hand and started rubbing it. "You aren't too shabby, I'm probably only saying this because you didn't kill me, but you are one scary dragon. A friendly dragon, but still still scary as hell." Chris said. Charizard proudly grinned at the comment, before picking Chris up with her arms. "I guess… you're her pet now," Dan chuckled. "Hey Charizard, the poor guy's tuckered out, let him go," he said. Charizard nodded and handed the Chris back to his roommmate. "I'll see you around some time," Chris waved the dragon goodbye.
"Where the hell am I?" Ninetales lifted her head up, from the cave she and her kit had fallen asleep in, was now a white, empty room. Vulpix was nowhere to be found. "Hello, Ninetales," it was the human from the other day. "Where is my child," Ninetales asked. She frantically looked around the room like an animal, hoping her child would be somewhere. "Well, do you think we'd let you and your Vulpix go so easily?" The commissioner said. He pulled out Ninetales' kit from under his coat. "I'm not going to hurt either of you, but we can't know for sure if you were lying about that farmer's nightmares," he said. "Unhand my kit, right the hell now," Ninetales said. "No need to be feisty, I was just doing my job by taking you guys here. Doesn't mean I can't be friends with you right?" The officer said.
Vulpix opened its eyes and waved a paw at her mother. "Hey Mom!" The kit hopped out of the humans arms and rubbed up against Ninetales. "Why did you agree to go off with that human? He could've hurt you," Ninetales angrily huffed. "He offered to play with me… he couldn't be that bad right Mom?" Ninetales sighed. "Just please do not wonder off while I am asleep," she looked up at the commissioner. "So when are we allowed to leave? I'm not the biggest fan of this room," Ninetales asked. "Well… we've been tasked to gather every Ninetales in the country, pet or not. You're kind of the start to all of this, we mostly need you to tell us how to undo a curse," he said. "That… doesn't answer my question," Ninetales said. "Get used to it, not we aren't answering every single question for you."
