The apartment bedroom, which was often Chris's room while the living room was Dan's, was a bit dirty. There was a small bed that looked like it was pretty old, next to a desk, and a soft cushy chair at said desk. Chris was laying flat on his back, he hadn't even bothered pulling the blanket over him the night before. Chris's phone was still on, the low battery prompt was at the forefront of the screen, and had Google up. His research wasn't very deep; how would anybody be able to find their roommate's stolen pets? Chris was sleeping with his eyes open.

Daniel was sleeping at the desk, or rather, just laying his head on the desk. On his phone was an article about Gamefreak testing Pokemon creation. "We will see if we make a Pokemon, will it become reality? We will also be looking into if we can synthetically make evolution stones for sale," the article ended on that quote from the president. He groaned as he slammed his phone down. "Hey Chris, did you find anything?" He heard his roommate snore, which told him everything he needed to know.

The young man sighed; maybe he'll only be able to see his Pokemon once their testing is done. His phone started going off and he quickly picked it up. "Hello?" Daniel said. Chris was up the second he heard the phone ring. It was a number he didn't recognize, but that didn't stop him from picking up. "Hello! This is Gracy Stewart. I work with Consumer Rewards! I'm calling you today because you," before the lady could continue, Daniel put it on speaker for Chris to hear. "have visited one of our affiliate websites. For this we have a 1,000 worth of store credit for the store of your choice. Please say your first and last name."

Dan and Chris grinned knowingly. "Do the voice!" Dan mouthed. Chris joking looked shocked and shook his head. "I'm not a one trick pony, Dan!" He yell whispered. "Do da voice!" Daniel mouthed back. Chris took his roommate's phone. "My name is Sponge Bob!" By now Daniel was laughing his ass off; Chris had a spot on impression of Spongebob Squarepants. It wasn't exactly the most useful thing in the world, but it was funny as hell. "Okay… Sponge Bob, can I have your street address and zip code?" Chris listed off a bunch of fake information. "This is SpongeBob Squarepants and I love killing people! You're next!" The scammer hung up.

"Dude, audition for Spongebob," Dan said while laughing. "Nah dude, the voice actor is still kicking. Plus Pokemon are real now. How long is it until people find a way to bring Spongebob into existence?" Chris asked. "At least start making Youtube videos where you just do that voice while playing a game or some bullshit!" Daniel was wiping the tears out of his eyes. "No no, that would hurt my throat," he saw the look on Dan's face and sighed. "You're helping me with those. I'm gonna make a top ten video with the voice," Chris said. Daniel nodded as his phone went off again.

"Hello?" Daniel said. "Hello, recently a Ninetales and Vulpix was brought into our lab by a van. They have tags and their owner is… Daniel Walter. Do you know about them?" The voice asked. "I'm Daniel Walter!" He informed the caller. "Oh awesome! We are just calling in to tell you thst your Pokemon are safe and well fed. We were going to run an experiment on them, but figured out your Ninetales can write. So our lead scientist, Riot Simmons, just said to have them relax and have Ninetales write in a diary." Daniel looked at Chris, who nodded.

"Will I be able to see them? When will I be expecting to take them back? What experiments are you going to run? You're not gonna cut them open right?" Daniel quick fired. "Whoa! One question at a time…" the other voice said. "You'll be able to see them in a week. Riot kind of… got himself turned into a Vulpix by his own Pokemon. We'll give you a three day notice before you can take your Pokemon back home. Our experiments aren't too bad, we're just testing their intelligence and cursing. And no, we are not dissecting your pets. We're not legally allowed to do that," the operator said. "Anymore questions?"

"How are my Pokemon feeling?" Daniel asked. "Did either of them bring up being mad at me? They… kinda got dragged away from me and I didn't stop it from happening," Daniel asked. "No, in fact, they have made it clear they only want to see you," the operator said. "Alright, if that's all, we'll call you at a later date, and schedule a visit for your Pokemon," the operator said. "Alright awesome. Thank you!" Dan clenched the air as his hand shook. "Say, I didn't know uncle Riot was a head scientist," Chris said.

"Wait, did Ninetales turn my uncle into a Vulpix?" Chris asked. "No, your uncle apparently had his own Ninetales that cursed him. I'm assuming in a week he'll be back to normal," Daniel said. "Alright… well, I'll get to see Riot for the first time jn a hot minute," Chris grinned. "Say, now that we at least know they aren't hurt, or going to be hurt, let's get some ice cream and a bad treats. You'll likely wanna spoil those two when you see them again," he said. "You bet I am, c'mon, we're heading to Meijer."

Riot stood up and followed Casper and Ruby out of his room. Despite how much the other teo Pokemon tried, Riot couldn't keep his balance very well while walking. While it was quite intuitive, which it should be given how evolution just makes what works, it wasn't something Riot was used to. His body was bent forward as a Vulpix, whereas a human stood upright and almost never were on all fours. "This is so weird," Riot nearly tripped, but Ruby stopped him from falling. "If you would like, I can carry you for a bit, it would not be difficult. Then I can teach you how to maintain your balance."

"That… would be nice, I always wanted to know how quadrupeds do this everyday. I might as well figure out," Riot. "I believe you knew that already, you are a scientist after all," Casper said. She took the human-turned Vulpix up and started communicating with telepathy in order to not drop him. "I kinda get why. Usually four legged animals run faster than those on two, but two legged animals tend to be better at running for longer distances. They... I never really got the chance to look super deep into it, but as a Vulpix, I can get an even better understanding," Riot said. "You humans and your desires of understanding the world. Is simply living not enough?"

Riot chuckled as he noticed how Vulpix actually had a scruff. It again, made sense. A Pokemon without arms had to carry its young somehow and it felt somewhat comfortable to be held like this. It wasn't anywhere near as comfortable as cuddling with Ruby, or resting his head on the side of Casper's stomach, but he instinctively just felt safe. The Ninetales used her psychic abilities to open a door and walked through with Ruby at her heels. "Well, we humans do just enjoy living. Some of us seek something more or a purpose, or like me, want to know about the world and how it works," Riot closed his eyes. "Honestly, humans are smart. It's great, it's how we managed to thrive for hundreds, if now thousands of generations. Though now it also seems like a curse," Riot was settled on the ground.

"Your intelligence isn't a curse, it is ambition. You seek so much more than just being alive. You said I was just as smart as a human, yet I do not question if there is an afterlife, or how my body works. I just know that I am alive and I am happy for that," Casper said. "The only ambition I have had is simply hoping to raise kits, if they are mine, or if I find them somehow," she smiled at all the memories from the kits she raised over the years. "And I'm happy with just exploring!" Ruby said. "Once we are permitted to leave, we will…." Casper faked a glare as Riot.

"Did I make you mad or..." Casper giggled. "No, I'm glaring at you, because I want you to join us when we leave. You wanted to adopt us, so I wish to explore the world with you. I know you humans love traveling as part of your ambitions," Casper said. "You bet I'll come! I've done enough studying over my life and have made plenty to keep going for a while. After I learn a bit more about Pokemon for my book, we'll head out on a journey," he said. "Allow me to aid you. I don't remember every Pokemon in the world, but I can give you details on the ones I know. Remembering 800 creatures is quite difficult."

"Once I had to remember every species of ant, there's 17,000," Casper said. "Are those the little black creatures that run around?" She asked. With a nod the Ninetales nearly face pawed. "You humans are un-understandable."
