I lifted my head as soon as I heard two sets of paws enter my cave. It had begun to snow quite hard, to the point that I couldn't even see my nose. So, instead potentially getting lost(or freezing to death. Ice Types are freeze resistant, not freeze proof), so I had taken shelter in the first cave I could find. Luckily for me, there was seemingly no recent activity when I did a quick inspection of it. Well, hopefully my new visitors would be friendly, if they were Pokemon at all.

My gaze landed onto two Ninetales, neither of which had noticed me yet, which was fine by me. I needed information about these two, and I could very easily figure out what these two were like if they did not know of my presence yet. One sniff was enough to let me both know that they were males, but it didn't take more than a glance to know that neither of these two were related. One was a Kantonian Ninetales with well groomed, wonderful golden fur with piercing red eyes. I noted that his muscles were not particularly well defined, but he likely wasn't weak despite this.

Said Kantonian Ninetales had his tails curled over his back as if to cover something up. He immediately laid down as soon as he was alway from the mouth of the cave, and whatever was on his back slid off. It was a human. Perhaps they disliked humans and found that one dead? If so, then what were they doing with it? My focus then slid onto the other Ninetales in the cave while the first seemed occupied with their haul.

This one looked like he was freshly evolved; he still had that innocent little look that most Vulpix have(which sticks around after they evolve for a while), and he was an Alolan Ninetales. This was quite interesting, since it could mean that he led a pack of Vulpix, which meant the possibility of more Ninetales in one place; I could find a mate much quicker if this were the case. But the next thing I saw made my blood boil.

The Kantonian Ninetales stood up and walked around the human, who I had just noticed was merely incompacitated, and laid his tails over the downed human as did the Alolan one. "So I am sharing my cave with human lovers," both Ninetales' heads jerked up. The Alolan one shot up to his feet, as if he were ready to fight to the death for his trainer. Disgusting. Though his eyes widened and locked onto me, as if he found me to be beautiful. Such a compliment meant nothing coming from such a poor excuse for a Ninetales.

The Kantonian Ninetales looked ready to fight as well, but seemingly was more willing to be a last line of defense for his human. Said trainer was slightly flabbergasted by why his Pokemon were acting like this. "Is there anything wrong with us caring for our human's well being? I don't know if you've noticed this, but making sure our trainer doesn't freeze to death is quite high on our priority list," the golden one growled. "Hey bud, what are you growling at?" That must've been the human. I watched as the foul monkey brought his hand to his Pokemon cheek, who immediately stopped growling, but kept his glare on me for a split second.

Then he growled at his trainer, who was making an attempt to sit up to get a better glimpse at what was inside the cave. Then the Kantonian Ninetales scolded his human for getting up, which made it sound like he was talking to a kit. I want to skin that human in front of him. "Alright! I'm laying down!" The human then snuggled up into the fox's fur. Said Ninetales then nuzzled his human before the Ninetales looked up at the Alolan one. The damned pervert hadn't taken his eyes off of me since he became aware of my presence.

"Quit staring at me, you freaks. Just focus on your trainer before I rip your eyes out," The Alolan Ninetales didn't budge. What did happen was the human getting on his knees, and peeking over his companion's side, and taking a glimpse at me. "Hey, Chili's got a crush, eh?" The damned fool said. "If that human makes another comment like that, he will be leaving this cave without a cave," I growled, which was reciprocated by an equally friendly comeback. Then the Alolan Ninetales opened his mouth.

"Mema? Is that you?"

I froze up as did the Kantonian Ninetales. There was no way my child would happily, and willingly, become this trainer's pet. Last I saw, my child had not evolved, and there was a low chance that he could've found an Ice Stone… if he could even get away from those hunters. "Yo, what's going on?" The human fully sat up, having no Ninetales to tell him to lay back down. "Shit. I left the journal at camp… well, if there's anything left of camp after…" He turned his head out towards the mouth of the cave, where it had started to snow even harder.

"Chili," The Kantonian Ninetales spoke up. "Is that your mother?" The Alolan Ninetales turned back shrugged. "She sounds like my Mema, she also looks like it… I, I don't know. I thought she would have recognized me by now if she were, or I might be mistaken…" This… Chili looked up at me again. "Chili, you told me your mother hid you in a bush to keep hunters from getting you. You were a Vulpix back then, and now you're a Ninetales. There's no way she could immediately know who you are," The golden one said. "I know, Sol," Chili said, almost in a whimper.

"Mema?" The Ninetales then started padding towards me, keeping his gaze locked on me, while I remained silent. He sat down just before me with his ears held against his head. He then started sniffing at me from a foreleg's distance, while I did the same. At a far, I could only really make out that this Ninetales was a male… but up close, I could get a good idea of who this was. It was my son, all grown up and evolved… and enslaved to a human. "My son, what has happened to you?"

"Well… I got away from those hunters at least… Then I ended up in this strange world, and then I almost got hit by a car," I stood up and happily padded over to Sol, who was now sitting beside Daniel, and rubbed up into his side. "Then I met Sol here, he's been keeping watch over me while we were separated," my best friend nodded. "Nice to meet you… do you have a name?" Sol tilted his head. "Just call me Ninetales for now," Mema said. "Now my son, please tell me why you were helping that filth?" Mema asked, gesturing towards Daniel.

"What do you mean by filth? That's my trainer!" I then chuckled. "He nearly hit me with that car, Mema. Then Sol convinced him to keep me, which I am still very grateful for," I then nudged Sol, a silent way of asking if I could hog the human for a bit. He got the message and I then found a way to tuck myself in and under Daniel's armpit, which I could tell made him silently cheer. "Man Sol, you gotta step your game up. Chili's fluffier than you are," Daniel teased. This elicited an eye roll, but I knew what this meant:

You'll pay for that comment.

"So you opted to stay with a human, Chili? Do you not know what those foul things have done?" Mema asked. "They hunt and kill Ninetales just for their fur. Not even for food, which would be far more forgivable, and some have farms meant for raising and killing us for the same reasons. Don't forget that humans are the reason you and I had gotten separated in the first place!" Mema looked furious, who then snapped her eyes on Daniel, who had a small smile on his face. He wasn't fully in on what was happening, so he stuck to simply scratching my chest, and humming to himself.

"Mema, this human's nice. I love him. He treats me quite nicely, and yes, I am not very trusting of many beyond him. But I do trust him with my life, and he doesn't make me do anything. I get to lounge about in his apartment, eat, and sleep. While Daniel just asks for love and affection from me, which can be given tenfold. He's not that bad," I tried to reason with Mema, who had gotten up and started padding over to where my human and I were sitting. "How are you sure he is not trying to get something out of you?" Mema asks. "He spends most of his time out of the house, working a job, so he can keep me well fed. In return, I cuddle with him if he wants me to. He loves me, and I love him. He goes through the afterlife and back at his job, so I make his day better for him."

"Are you forgetting who helps you with that?" Sol butts in, while I simply chuckle. "I know, I know, you help out a lot when it comes to keeping Daniel mentally stable. For that I'm grateful, as I don't think I could stand seeing Daniel depressed," I then looked up Mema, who had her face up in my trainer's, eying him closely. "Hey there… uh, I don't have anything for you to snack on, if that's what you want. Uh… please back up a bit," Daniel lifted his hand to try and push my mother back.

This Ninetales is kind of creepy. The first thing I saw when waking up, after Chili and Sol, was this Ninetales that was no more than maybe six inches away from my face. Now I felt kind of dumb for leaving behind Sol and Chili's notebook at camp, since now I was out of the loop of what was happening. Chili seemed to know who this Ninetales was, but I don't know how or why this Ninetales knew him. Maybe this Ninetales was friendly now that it knew who I was with?

Well, I'm definitely not making an attempt to pet a wild animal, even if it might be friendly. That'd be a good way to be a hand down, or a death wish. It depends on how generous this Ninetales is. Chili said something that I could neve hope to decipher, but I hoped it meant something good. It had to, right? Chili licked my cheek right after he had said whatever he had said, so I'll just assume it was good.

"Ninetales," the fox backed up a second and sat on its haunches. "So, are we chilling now?" I asked while beginning to relax.

I sat a reasonable distance away from Daniel and Chili while the latter's mother inspected my trainer. It did make some sense to me as to why the female didn't like people, she hadn't seen her son for a year because of some hunters. But I don't get why she would despise Daniel(she was still glaring at him) if her son very clearly enjoyed his company. In fact, Chili had just managed to curl himself up into a little ball of fluff in Daniel's lap. This was likely to keep his own mother from mauling Daniel while also stealing some cuddles. That cute little bastard.

"Say Ninetales, why not let Daniel pet you a bit? He's really not that bad, your son likes him, so why wouldn't you like him?" I ask. "Well, no son of mine would happily do this," she gestured to all of Chili, who was now being distracted by Daniel finding the "Sweet Spot" to scratch. "You're going to disown your child because he loves something you hate?" I asked, a small fire was building up in my throat; if what I asked was true, then I'll be pissed the fuck off. "I will give this human a chance, but if he attempts to hurt me, he is losing an arm," Ninetales said before padding up to Daniel and nudging him with her nose.

"Ah, so now you don't wanna put me in an ice cube," Daniel said jokingly as he reached out and started scratching Ninetales' chest. "Okay, I will say this: For all their flaws, humans tend to find spots that I cannot reach that itch," Ninetales said as she sat down and closed her eyes in contempt. "Does this mean you like him, Mema?" Chili asked, a small sparkle of hope shone in his eyes. "Perhaps. We will be stuck in this cave for a while, so I will make my judgments then," Ninetales said.

By this point, Chili had gotten off of Daniel's lap, so our trainer's face began to morph into a mischievous grin. Whatever he was planning on, certainly was not a good idea. Chili's mother had laid on her back, belly up, so Daniel could rub her belly; she already trusted him, or her belly itched, I don't know. "What is he doing?" Chili's Mother asks as she was dragged into our trainer's lap. "Well, Daniel likes you already, so that's pretty good," I said with a chuckle.

"Good. Now I get to steal this human from the two of you. He will be forced to pamper me until the end of his days!" Ninetales barked before laying her head down for a nap.

so fun fact: i had another version of this chapter(that hasn't released. I might release it later as an outtake) where instead of Daniel and Chili's Mom getting along, Daniel gets mauled by her. anyways that seemed a little fucked up, so i scrapped that idea.

p.s I am probably gonna give Ninetales/Chili's Mom a name. so i'm asking for y'all to suggest some names and I'll choose one.
