Elliot pinched himself. Was this for real? It was. Olivia truly was sitting at the desk across from his. Her coat was around the chair, and she pulled it closer to her desk. She looked at the computer. It still had her background image on it. With the exception of her personal pictures not being on the desk, it was as if she never left. She glanced at her computer for a second before picking her head up and looking at Elliot. Elliot smiled at her. "I missed you," he said sincerely.
Olivia nodded. "I know," she stated. "I missed you, too." She kept her focus on Elliot. His caring face, the sensitivity in his voice. She did miss him. In computer crimes, there was not a lot of partner work. With all of their technology, there did not need to be. "These past few weeks have been awkward to say the least," she admitted.
"But you're really back?" Elliot asked her. He had to be sure. He needed her. He knew that he told her that it would be complicated to keep her and the job together. He cared about her too much. When it came down to saving her or civilians, he would choose her. He had to. She was his partner. She was the best thing in his life. She always would be. "You're not going to try narcotics? Vice?"
Olivia shook her head. "Elliot, I'm an SVU detective. Computer crimes was great. New technology with a lot faster results." She reached for a case file from Elliot's desk. "But you were right," she said as she took out a photograph of the bed used as the scene of a rape-homicide. "This is in my blood. I can't try to escape that."
"Can I ask why you tried to?" Elliot asked her. He would understand if the answer was no. The last case they worked together was far from normal. Gitano was a test on their relationship as both friends and partners. Emotions were running high. Although he hated to admit it, even he had doubts in their ability to remain partners. He shook his head. "Forget about it," he told her. "The important thing is that you're back now."
"You're not mad?" Olivia asked, almost fearfully. She honestly did not know what Elliot's response would be. She hoped it would be a "no", but she had no way of being certain. Given how she went about getting transferred to computer crimes, she would not blame him for being angry. She should have talked to him first.
"It's in the past, Liv," Elliot assured her. "All that matters is that you're here now. I missed you too damn much to be mad." He smiled once again at her. "What's the case?" he asked her. He was ready for the details. Let the case run into night for all he cared. The two of them were reunited. They were working on crimes again. As Olivia began speaking, Elliot knew it was how things were meant to be.
