Volume I: The Invincible Iron Man
Note: This will be the ninth chapter of Volume I. This will into Tony Stark's first appearance as Iron Man. His path will cross with Spider-Man's as the two heroes team up for the first time, this will feature The Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom as the main villains.
In Malibu, California at the mansion of Tony Stark who just returned home after being held captive for three months, he returned a different man than he ever was before as he now has a different purpose in life, he still stayed out of the spotlight after his return and stayed in his home for the past two weeks.
Tony Stark is a 36 year old male standing at 6' 1" with black hair and brown eyes, sporting his signature goatee, he's extremely intelligent but can act like a teenager all the time, he's got quite the reputation for being a womanizer as he has a habit of sleeping with multiple women most of the time.
He works in his private lab inside the home below as he's now working on a new project that will change the world, though things have changed while he was away, the sudden appearance of the new hero called Spider-Man who has been operating in New York these past months since he saved a school from a group of criminals.
His secretary Pepper Potts came down into the lab as she brought him a drink.
"Here you go Tony." Pepper hands his drink.
"Thanks Pepper." Tony drank it and puts it down. "I heard that the expo went well without me."
"Yeah... didn't have the heart to cancel it and disappoint a lot of fans." Pepper explained to Tony.
"You did right Pepper, I would've kept it going. Thank you for that." Tony thanked Pepper.
"You're welcome." Pepper says to Tony.
"JARVIS! Show me the footages of Spider-Man!" Tony orders JARVIS.
"At once sir." JARVIS says to Tony.
JARVIS is an A.I. created by Tony Stark to help around the house as well as Stark Industries. JARVIS shows holographic footages of Spider-Man, news reports, social media, everything.
"So this is the famous Spider-Man I've heard so much about?" Tony is curious about Spider-Man.
"He is... he saved an entire school from a group of crime syndicates that held it hostage two months ago. Since then he made a big difference in New York, his heroism inspired everyone." Pepper explained to Tony.
"Yeah, but he's just one man saving a city, what about the world? There's a whole world out there that needs heroes willingly to save lives from conflicts. That's what I aim to change." Tony has his own plans.
"How?" Pepper is curious about his plan.
"With this." Tony holds up a helmet that he created.
The helmet is just one piece, the suit is the whole picture. Tony created an golden advanced power armor suit equipped with repulsor technology.
"And with this as its heart." Tony points to the arc reactor.
Tony has got an miniature arc reactor implanted in his chest to keep him alive, though it has another purpose, he plans to use it to power up his suit.
"It's too golden, wouldn't you agree?" Pepper looked at the suit.
"Mmm, good point, how about some hot rod red?" Tony suggested to Pepper.
"That'll do." Pepper liked the suggestion.
"Hopefully this will give me an edge in my crusade against evil, a promise I made to an old friend." Tony remember a promise he made.
Tony looked at the Mark One, the very first armor he created during captivity with the help of someone important, he used it to escape and get his freedom, now he must do more in life than he ever did before.
"By the way, how was the construction of Stark Tower in New York?" Tony asking Pepper.
"It's completed, we're just figuring out when is the grand opening." Pepper explained Tony.
"Mmm... why don't we schedule that tomorrow, now that I'm back, the timing couldn't be perfect." Tony moved up the timetable.
Tony is planning on do the grand opening of Stark Tower tomorrow in person as Pepper Potts is making the arrangements.
In the Gobi Desert, at the hidden ruins, the group of terrorists known as the Ten Rings are gathered around as their leader, the Mandarin is watching the recent news of Tony Stark.
"It's been two weeks ago since billionaire Tony Stark has been found alive and well, since his return no one has seen him in public though that's all about to change as he's about to attend the grand opening of the newly constructed Stark Tower that's he'll be hosting personally."
"So Tony Stark has finally decided to show himself to the public for the first time... good. Tomorrow is supposed to be his greatest day, let's make it his last." Mandarin smiled mischievously.
The men all agree with their master as they bow to the Mandarin and the mysterious entity that hides in the shadows with his eyes glowing red.
The next day at the Daily Bugle as the reports of Tony Stark coming to New York for the grand opening has thrown everyone into a frenzy.
"Tony Stark is about to show himself to the public tonight! need a photographer for this event! Where is the staff photographer?!" Jameson is throwing orders at everyone.
"He called in sick, he's unavailable." Robbie tells Jonah.
"Sir, I found Parker!" Betty came into the office with Peter.
"What'd you bring? Anything?! Nothing?! You're fired!" Jameson says to Peter as he's leaving.
"Jonah, the grand opening!" Robbie reminded Jameson.
"Oh right! Never mind, you unfired, come back!" Jameson says to Peter who came back. "What do you know about Tony Stark?"
"Well I-" Peter was going to answer.
"Ah, don't answer that, my photographer got himself the flu or something, you're all I got, tonight is the grand opening of Stark Tower, Tony Stark will be there in person, it's big." Jameson explained about tonight.
"Could you pay me in advance?" Peter is asking Jameson.
Jameson stayed silent until he laughed in Peter's presence, he kept on laughing until he stopped.
"You serious? Pay you for what? Standing there? Tonight, at Stark Tower, there's the door." Jameson reminded Peter.
Peter got a job taking photos at the grand opening of Stark Tower in which Tony Stark will make his first appearance since his disappearance months ago.
The plane landed at LaGuardia airport as Tony Stark is getting off the plane, he's being accompanied by his secretary Pepper Potts and his driver Happy Hogan. The plane is unloading something locked up in the crate that Tony wanted to bring to the tower. They sees Colonel James Rhodes here waiting for them.
"Rhodey, it's good to see you stateside again." Tony smiled as he hugged Rhodes.
"It's good to see you alive and breathing, hope that you've been a good boy these days Tony." Rhodes says to Tony.
"He never does, that's why I'm here, to set him straight." Pepper smiled as she talked,
"It's true, by the way, how's security?" Tony asking Rhodes.
"I selected these men myself, security is tight, you're in good hands." Rhodes assured Tony about his safety.
"Thanks, if this Air Force Colonel thing doesn't work out, you can always join Stark Industries as my new head of security, pay is good." Tony telling Rhodes.
"Tempting, though I just prefer serving my country than to babysit your ass." Rhodes made a joke.
"Too bad, your loss. Shall we get going?" Tony asking Pepper.
"Let's go. We got a schedule to keep." Pepper reminded Tony.
"Allow me." Happy opened the door.
Tony, Pepper, and Rhodes enters the limo as Happy Hogan takes the driver seat. The limo drives out of the airport accompanied by the cargo truck carrying something inside the crate.
As the sunsets in Forest Hills, Peter is getting dressed for the grand opening of Stark Tower tonight, he dressed up in a black suit, Mary Jane is in the room watching.
"Can't believe that Jameson is making me dress up like this, I look ridiculous." Peter isn't amused.
"I think that you look good, need help with the tie?" Mary Jane offers to help.
"Sure." Peter let's Mary Jane help.
Mary Jane helps as she ties the tie around his neck.
"Are you okay? You look nervous?" Mary Jane is asking Peter.
"I'm okay, it's just... I get to see Tony Stark in person." Peter says to Mary Jane.
"What's so great about him?" Mary Jane says to Peter.
"The guy is a genius, he made a revolutionary power source at his factory that could provide unlimited energy to the world, the arc reactor." Peter explained to Mary Jane.
"That sounds amazing. Okay, I'm done." Mary Jane finished with the tie.
"Thanks MJ. How do I look?" Peter asking Mary Jane.
"Like you're going out to prom that I be happy to go with." Mary Jane smiled.
"Thanks." Peter blushed a bit.
"You're welcome, now shouldn't you get going. The sun is setting down." Mary Jane reminded Peter.
"Right, I should get going. Wish me luck." Peter exited the room with his camera.
"Good luck." Mary Jane says to Peter as he left.
At Stark Tower, the grand opening is beginning as a lot of people are gathered around outside the streets as the area is closed off to cars. Peter has finally catches up as the grand opening is still underway.
(Inside Stark Tower)
Tony Stark is all dressed up in his black suit as he's having trouble putting on a tie. Pepper came by wearing a dress for the event.
"Seriously?" Pepper is surprised.
"Can you blame me? I've been held captive in a dark place for three months, so forgive me if I'm a little rusty." Tony still having trouble with the tie.
"Here, let me help you." Pepper helps Tony with the tie.
"Pepper Potts to the rescue. What would I ever do without you, Pepper?" Tony let's Pepper help with the tie.
"Probably be self destructive all the time." Pepper smiled as she made a joke.
"Thanks, for everything." Tony says to Pepper.
"You're welcome Mr. Stark." Pepper finished with the tie.
"Well then, showtime." Tony smiled as he walks toward the elevator.
(Outside Stark Tower)
Peter is still outside with Jameson who is dressed in a coat and his hat, they're with the other photographers and reporters that are waiting for Tony Stark's appearance.
"Be sure to get a decent photo." Jameson reminded Peter.
"Sure, you only reminded like the 100th time." Peter smiled as he holds the camera.
They sees Pepper Potts coming out followed by Tony Stark as everyone finally sees him in person, they all started taking photos of Tony.
"Parker! The picture!" Jameson tells Peter.
Peter took the picture with his camera and got the image of Tony Stark. Pepper took to the stage.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the grand opening. We are pleased not only in the opening of this magnificent tower, but by the presence of the man who build it. It's gives me great pleasure to announce the return of CEO of Stark Industries, Mr. Tony Stark." Pepper claps her hands as did everyone.
Tony Stark took to the stage as everyone is pleased to see his return back to society. Unknown to everyone, a sniper is nearby far away and he's not alone as he brought help, they're the Ten Rings.
"Thank everyone, It's so good to be home after so long. What I'm about to tell you is this, I've come back not as the billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, but as something more. During my time in captivity, I had a lot of time to reflect on my old life. I realize that I needed to do more in life than just creating things that blows up." Tony says to the crowd.
Peter's spider sense is tingling as danger is nearby, he looks around until he sees a flash from a rooftop far away, he looks back at Tony Stark who is giving his speech.
The sniper has his scope locked onto Tony Stark.
"Say Goodnight Mr. Stark."
The sniper pulled the trigger as the bullet fired off. Peter then reacted as he runs up and pushed Tony out of the way, the bullet missed as it hits the wall. Everyone started to panicked as a gunshot was fired though no one had died luckily thanks to Peter saving Tony's life.
"Get him inside!" Peter tells security.
"Come on Tony, let's get you to safety." Rhodes escorted Tony inside the building with the bodyguards.
The Ten Rings saw that their assassination attempt has failed and now they're forced to attack the Tower and everyone around it to get to Tony Stark.
"That was a close one, Parker." Jameson tells Peter but he's not here. "Parker? Parker?!"
Peter ran to a nearby alley as he starts to undress with his Spider-Man suit he's already wearing underneath.
The Ten Rings flew around in jet packs as they started throwing grenades and attacking civilians.
"Where is Tony Stark?!"
One of the members got webbed up and taken down by Spider-Man.
"Not here, but I am!" Spider-Man stopped their attack.
"We only want Tony Stark, this is not your business!"
"You're attacking innocent civilians in my city, this is pretty much my business!" Spider-Man says to the Ten Rings.
"Then you shall die with them, kill him! Kill them all!"
Spider-Man fights off the Ten Rings all by himself as some innocents are caught in the crossfire.
(Inside Stark Tower)
Tony and Pepper are inside the private elevator as the fight is happening outside, too many people are already hurt or worse.
"It's them, the Ten Rings, I'm sure of it." Tony says to Pepper.
"What do they want?" Pepper asking Tony.
"Me, I know too much, seen too much. I'm a loose end that they want to tie up." Tony explained to Pepper.
"What do we do?" Pepper is getting worried.
"Now I'm going to take the fight to them." Tony says to Pepper.
They got off the elevator as Tony walks up to the lab on the top floor. He found the power armor that he brought on the trip, it's painted red on the gold plating.
"JARVIS, power up the suit!" Tony orders JARVIS.
The suit activates as the visor on the helmet is glowing blue.
(Outside Stark Tower)
The civilians are evacuating the area as the Ten Rings threatened a lot of lives. Spider-Man is doing the best that he can to hold them off by himself. A trio of them aimed their guns and fired at Spider-Man. Spidey runs and flips until he webbed up a manhole and uses it as a makeshift shield.
He fires back some webbing at the guns and jammed the barrels. He tossed the manhole at one of them and hits. He runs up and does the scissor kick, taking the two out.
His spider sense tingle as a rocket was launched at him and he jumps out of the way. He dodged the blast though he sees some more men with heavy weaponry, too much for him to take on alone.
One of the men was about to fire off his grenade launcher until he got blasted back by a repulsor blast. Spider-Man looked up and sees a man in a armored suit flying above him, this guy saved his life.
"Hope I'm not late to the party." Iron Man lands on the ground.
"Who are you?" Spider-Man is curious about the new guy.
"Call me... Iron Man." Iron Man introduced himself to Spider-Man.
Iron Man uses his visor to scan Spider-Man's face as it can see through the mask, he completed the scan and sees his face, Tony was surprised to see that he's just a kid, especially the one who just saved his life.
Spider-Man and Iron Man sees the remaining members of the Ten Rings still standing and armed.
"Looks like the fight is not over yet." Spider-Man says to Iron Man.
"Apparently not, shall we?" Iron Man has his repulsors ready.
"Thought you never ask." Spider-Man got his web shooters ready.
The Ten Rings fire off their weapons as Spider-Man dodges the bullet but Iron Man just stayed still as his armor is very durable and can withstand bullets. Spider-Man fires off some webbing at their guns, jamming the barrels. Iron Man hovers up and fires off his repulsors, taking them out.
"Help, someone is trapped underneath."
Spider-Man sees someone calling for help as someone is trapped underneath the rumble from the fight, he went over to help as he tries to carefully lift without causing harm.
Iron Man faces off against the Ten Rings alone while Spider-Man is busy rescuing lives. He sees a wave of them coming towards him until Iron Man fires unleashed a fury of small seeker missiles at them, they all got blown up.
He sees the last guy left holding a RPG aiming at Spider-Man and some civilians. The rocket fired as Iron Man flies in and took the impact to protect Spider-Man and the civilians, Spider-Man pulled the guy out from the rumble as he turns and sees Iron Man taking the hit and falls down hard.
The last member of the Ten Rings tries to reload another rocket until Spider-Man webbed him and pulls him in for a flying knee strike. All the members of the Ten Rings are down for the count.
He went over to see Iron Man still laying on the ground.
"Iron Man, are you alright?" Spider-Man is getting worried.
"I'm fine, I'm-" Iron Man got cut off as he's starting to feel the pain in his chest. "JARVIS, what's happening?"
"The arc reactor has taken too much damage from the blast, power is failing." JARVIS says to Iron Man.
"Damn... take me inside the Tower." Iron Man says to Spider-Man while in pain.
"You're not looking too well, I should take you to a hospital." Spider-Man tells Iron Man.
"No hospital, the tower, please." Iron Man still in pain.
"Okay... I'll take you there, hold on." Spider-Man lifts Iron Man off the ground.
(Inside Stark Tower)
Spider-Man took Iron Man on the private floor where a lab is already set up. He laid him down on the stretcher.
"JARVIS, unlock the suit." Iron Man orders JARVIS.
The suit began to unlock and opens as Spider-Man sees Tony Stark is inside the suit and that he has being piloting it.
"My god... Tony Stark... you're Iron Man." Spider-Man is still shocked and surprised.
"What gave me away?" Tony joked as he's in pain.
Spider-Man could see that Tony isn't doing too well as he sees a device implanted in his chest, something glowing blue though its seem to shut down and Tony is going into shock.
"Mister Stark, what's happening?" Spider-Man is getting worried.
"That box over there, go!" Tony points to the box.
Spider-Man went over to see a box and opens it, he sees several miniature devices that identical to the one in his chest, he picked one and walked over to Tony.
"Is this it?" Spider-Man holds the arc reactor.
"Yeah, the one in my chest is damaged, needs to be replaced. Can you help me out?" Tony asking Spider-Man.
"Okay, what do you need me to do?" Spider-Man telling Tony.
"Remove this damaged arc reactor and put in the new one." Tony tells Spider-Man.
Spider-Man slowly removes the damaged arc reactor out of Tony's electromagnet and puts it aside, now he slowly puts in the new arc reactor in and plugs it, power is restored to the device as Tony is starting to feel better.
"There, how do you feel?" Spider-Man asking Tony.
"Feel better now, thanks kid." Tony thanked Spider-Man.
"You're welcome, though I'm surprised to find out that Iron Man is you." Spider-Man said to Tony.
"Yeah well, I didn't expect that Spider-Man would be a teenager, so I guess we're both full of surprises." Tony says to Spider-Man.
Spider-Man's phone rang as he picked it up as Aunt May is calling him.
"You should take that." Tony says to Spider-Man.
Spider-Man answered the phone. "Hey Aunt May."
"Peter, I saw on the news of what you did. Are you alright?" May says too worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I promise." Spider-Man assured May that he's fine.
"What were you thinking? You could've gotten hurt or worse." May says to Peter.
"I didn't think, but I couldn't stand by and do nothing." Spider-Man says over the phone.
"I know and I'm proud of you for saving a life, but please don't take anymore unnecessary risks with your life. I can't stand to lose you like I lost Ben." May says to Peter.
"I'm sorry Aunt May, never meant to worry you. I promise to be home as soon as possible." Spider-Man says to May.
"Okay... I love you." May says to Peter.
"I love you too Aunt May," Spider-Man hangs up the phone.
"You should get going, your family needs you." Tony tells Spider-Man.
"What about you?" Spider-Man says to Tony.
"I'll be fine, I've been through worse. I'll rest for a bit and Pepper will keep me company, now go." Tony telling Spider-Man to go.
"Alright, take care." Spider-Man left the tower.
Tony is left alone in the lab as Spider-Man is already gone.
At the Parker Residence, May is with Mary Jane and Gwen watching the news of tonight's incident at Stark Tower.
"An assassination attempt was made against Tony Stark who just recently returned back into society after escaping from his captors. Mr. Stark was giving his speech until a bullet was fired from another building, intended to take his life. Fortunately freelance photographer Peter Parker from Forest Hills managed to push Tony Stark out of the way and saving his life."
Peter just returned home as they see him alive and well.
"Peter, thank god that you're alright." Gwen run up and hugged him.
"I'm okay Gwen, I promise." Peter hugged Gwen back.
"You're quite the hero, Tiger." Mary Jane smiled at Peter
"I'm so proud of you, you saved someone." May smiled at Peter.
Back at the Ten Rings hideout, The Mandarin found out that the assassination attempt on Tony Stark has failed thanks to the intervention of Spider-Man and his new ally Iron Man.
"This is not looking good at all." Fin Fang Foom speaking from the shadows.
"The intervention of Spider-Man and Iron Man was greater than anticipated. Looks like I'll have to deal with this whole thing myself." The Mandarin decided to take this matter into his own hands.
"If you're going, then it's time that I join the party." Fin Fang Foom volunteers to go too.
"Are you sure?" The Mandarin says to Fin Fang Foom.
"Of course, it's time the whole world knows of Fin Fang Foom." Fin Fang Foom says to the Mandarin.
The next day at Midtown High, as a lot of students applauded Peter Parker for saving Tony Stark's life.
"Way to go Pete, didn't know that you had it in you." Harry applaud Peter.
"Yeah, that took guts." Flash applaud Peter too.
"Thanks, just reacted on instinct." Peter says to them.
"By the way, what's the deal with this new guy, this Iron Man?" Flash is wondering about the new hero.
"I think that he looks cool with that armor, pretty hi tech." Harry says to Flash.
"Maybe, but he's no Spider-Man." Flash says to Harry.
"Still his fan, aren't you." Harry says to Flash.
"Better believe it." Flash says to Harry.
Peter remember that he needs to check in on Tony Stark after school, whatever happened yesterday with the Ten Rings, he has a feeling that it's not over yet.
Later at Stark Tower, Tony is feeling all better as he's working in his lab making some upgrades to his suit after the fight with the Ten Rings. Tony then sees Spider-Man hanging onto the window.
"I was wondering when I see you again, Peter Parker." Tony says to Spider-Man.
Spider-Man enters the building as he took off his mask as Tony already knows who he is.
"I see that you're doing so good since last night." Peter says to Tony.
"Yeah well, I've been through worse. I'm guessing that you must have a lot of questions, and I some of my own." Tony says to Peter.
"That's why I'm here. How? How did you become this Iron Man?" Peter is curious.
"JARVIS, show him the Mark One!" Tony orders JARVIS.
A holographic display of the Mark One armor is in view for Peter to see. The Mark One is a prototype armor made from scavenged parts.
"Whoa!" Peter is fascinated.
"This is the Mark One, the very first armor I created. This armor bought me my freedom thanks to the help of a dear friend." Tony tells Peter.
"Still doesn't explain how you became Iron Man." Peter says to Tony.
"Very well, it all started about three months ago." Tony tells his tale.
(Flashback)
Three months ago
It's August 9th, as a helicopter is exploring the Gobi Desert with Tony Stark as its passenger.
"Mr. Stark, we shouldn't stay here for too long. There's been reports of a terrorist organization operating in these parts."
"Hey, I don't like being here either. If it were up to me, I be back home with some supermodels in a hot tub." Tony smiled as he made a joke.
The reader picked up something as its beeping red.
"What's going on?" Tony is getting worried.
"RPG!!!"
Tony sees an RPG heading towards them as the pilot tires some evasive maneuver but the rocket hit the tail. The helicopter began to spin out of control as they lost the tail, the pilot is having a hard time maintain control.
"We're going down!!"
The helicopter crashed down onto the ground hard, Tony is still shaken as he managed to survive but the pilot wasn't so lucky, he crawls out of the wreckage while still being injured and shaken. He managed to climb out and crawled away from the crashed helicopter. He's sees some fuel being leaked out as a spark was lit, the helicopter blew up and Tony got caught in the shockwave, he felt back down hard but gotten some shrapnels in his chest.
(Present)
"I nearly died that day, until someone saved me." Tony continues the story.
(Flashback)
Tony Stark woke up still injured as he finds himself in a cave of some sorts. He then noticed that he's got something on his chest, he looks down to see a device implanted in him hooked up to a power source.
"Don't move, you're alive, just barely." Yinsen says to Tony.
"Who are you?" Tony asking for his name.
"My name is Yinsen." Yinsen introduced himself.
Unknown to them, someone is watching them through the surveillance camera, the Mandarin.
(Present)
"Yinsen saved my life that day, the blast from the wreckage left me a lot a shrapnel inside my body that was a death sentence. This device in me kept the shrapnel away from my heart." Tony explained his device's purpose.
"So who was it that was holding you both hostage?" Peter asking Tony.
"Never met him, though from what Yinsen told me, he controls the Ten Rings, he calls himself the Mandarin." Tony answered the question.
"The Mandarin?" Peter is confused by the name.
"Yinsen told me that he possesses great powers gifted to him by a powerful entity not of this world. Apparently they needed me alive for a purpose, so for the next three months, I've been working in their private workshop creating new weapons and technology, until I created this, the arc reactor, and I thought why stop there." Tony continues the story.
(Flashback)
Tony is using the forge to make something new, he swings the hammer down hard on a piece of hot metal.
Later he dipped the hot metal down into the water as steam is pouring out. He pulled the metal out and shows what looks like a metal faceplate.
He and Yinsen are working together to building a suit of armor that can free them from captivity. They used the scavenged parts from what the Ten Rings has collected to build this suit.
(Present)
"Thanks to Yinsen, we both build the Mark One together, we were supposed to make our escape until..." Tony continues the story.
(Flashback)
Tony is donning the Mark One for the first time with Yinsen's help. They've completed the programming to the suit as Tony tested it out its functions, it worked perfectly for the first time.
"Alright, it's time to go." Tony in his Mark One suit.
The Mark One bursted down the door as the insurgents began firing back at him but their bullets are having no effect. Tony began to swing his arms around and tossing around anyone trying to stop him, Yinsen followed behind him safely.
They managed to reach outside as many more men are waiting, they all began to fire at the Mark One as they have no success in killing him.
"My turn." Tony says in his armor.
The Mark One fires off the flamethrowers as the Ten Rings are getting burned up and dying. Some of them are still firing bullets at them.
"Hang on!" Tony grabbed Yinsen.
The Mark One prepares to flies off with its rocket boosters, they managed to fly off the ground and away from the hideout as they managed to escape from the Ten Rings.
Sometime later after they've escaped far from the Ten Rings reach, they landed on a remote piece of land as they're finally free.
"We did it, Yinsen!" Tony smiled as he's free.
"Yeah... good." Yinsen isn't doing too well.
Tony looked closer and sees that Yinsen had a bullet wound on his body, he's bleeding and dying.
"Yinsen! Stay with me! I'll get you some help!" Tony helping Yinsen stay alive.
"It's too late, but not for you. Go... live... you still have a great purpose in life... don't waste it." Yinsen says his last words to Tony as he slowly died.
"Thank you... for everything." Tony says to a dying Yinsen.
Yinsen died in front of Tony as he said his final words. Tony then swore to continue living for Yinsen and to do better in his life.
(Present)
"Yinsen died that day, I never forgotten those words. Since then I decided to honor him by changing myself and becoming the man he hoped that I could be. I think that I realize that meant being a hero, like you." Tony says to Peter.
"He was right, what you built is amazing, you chose to use this new invention of yours to help people. You saved me and those people yesterday from an RPG, normal people wouldn't do that, heroes would do that." Peter says to Tony.
"What about you? I'm guessing that Peter Parker wasn't born with these gifts." Tony made a guess.
"No, I got these powers by accident. Can't give you too much details, but after I got these powers my life changed forever. One day, someone I loved was taken from me and I decided to honor him by living up to being the man he hoped that I could be." Peter explained his story.
"So you go out there dressed like a power ranger, fighting crime and saving lives." Tony says to Peter.
"How do you know about the power rangers?" Peter is curious.
"Kid, I was born in the 80's, I've seen the first series when it came out in the 90's. So I'm guessing that no one else knows, is your dad okay with you going out there risking your life?" Tony says to Peter.
"He pretty much died when I was young, not that he made time for me growing up." Peter says about his relationship with his father.
"Mmm, dads can be like that, you should've seen mines." Tony can relate to his relationship with his father.
"That explains a lot." Peter smiled at Tony.
"Really? By the way, being Spider-Man must've made you popular with the girls. Got any luck with one?" Tony smiled at Tony.
"As Spider-Man, yes. As Peter Parker, no." Peter says to Tony.
"No? What's wrong with you? You shy or something?" Tony is surprised that Peter is single.
"No, it's just... being Spider-Man means living a hard life making a lot of enemies. I won't forgive myself if anything happened to the ones I love." Peter explained his reasons for being single.
"I see, but listen kid, if I learned anything in the past months is that life is too short. No one knows how much time they got left in the world. The only thing that kept me going was Pepper, Happy, and Rhodey, they're the only ones I care for most in this world. We all need to be human otherwise we're just empty inside, not really alive." Tony encourages Peter to live his life.
"Thanks." Peter says to Tony.
"By the way, got any ladies in your life?" Tony smiled at Peter.
"A few." Peter says to Tony.
"Show me." Tony is getting curious.
Peter pulls out his phone and shows a picture of himself with Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson, two girls his age.
"Wow, you certain hit the jackpot, kid. Anyone particular you're interested in?" Tony asking Peter.
"Gwen Stacy, she's the blonde in the picture." Peter holding the phone.
"Gwen Stacy, the girl that nearly drowned in the school pool, the one that you saved? The damsel in distress?" Tony says to Peter.
"Yes, that's her. I... had to give her CPR to save her life, but since then I can't get her out of my head." Peter began to blush a bit.
"Have you told her how you feel for her?" Tony asking Peter.
"No, I maybe brave at fighting bad guys, but confessing to my feelings is another thing." Peter isn't good at speaking to girls.
"You just need to practice, kid. Take a chance, if that doesn't work, then you move on and find someone else. Be confident in yourself, trust me kid, you're quite the catch." Tony gives his advice.
"You think so?" Peter says to Tony.
"I know so, because when I see you, you remind me so much of myself when I was your age. You'll get the hang of this, you'll be a player in no time before you know it." Tony smiled at Peter.
"Sir, a Colonel Rhodes is contacting you." JARVIS tells Tony.
"Put him through." Tony tells JARVIS.
"Tony, we got a situation here on satellite that you're not gonna believe." Rhodes tells Tony.
"What is it, Rhodey?" Tony asking Colonel Rhodes.
"Well... it looks like someone riding on a green dragon heading for Manhattan." Rhodes explained the situation.
"A green dragon?" Peter is confused.
"JARVIS, access the satellites and give me a view!" Tony orders JARVIS.
JARVIS accessed the satellite grid and shows a holographic view of what appears to be a giant green dragon flying across the country towards Manhattan.
"What the...?" Tony is shocked to see a dragon.
"I... think that it's time to suit up." Peter suggested to Tony.
"Think you're right." Tony agrees with Peter.
Peter puts the mask back on as he became Spider-Man again. Tony went to the lab and activates the suit.
The people of Manhattan are living their normal lives until they see something big and green with wings. Fin Fang Foom landed on the ground in the middle of the street as he roared out loud. A lot of people screamed in fear as they ran away.
"Where is Tony Stark?! We demand Tony Stark!" Fin Fang Foom tells everyone.
"Patience, my friend. He shall come but first let's get his attention." Mandarin say to Fin Fang Foom.
Mandarin fires off his rings of power at the vehicle, blowing it up. Fin Fang Foom unleashes his fire breath on the buildings burning them up.
Spider-Man and Iron Man are heading towards the sight of the green dragon as they see it with their own eyes unleashing fire around the buildings.
"We need to stop him otherwise the fire will spread!" Spider-Man swings while talking.
"What are you suggesting?" Iron Man continues to fly.
"I'll get his attention, can you take out the fire?" Spider-Man says to Iron Man.
"Of course, my suit comes equipped with a zero cannon." Iron Man says to Spider-Man.
"Good, now for me to get his attention." Spider-Man swings up ahead of Iron Man.
Spider-Man gotten so close as he's got Fin Fang Foom in his sights.
"Hey Pete's Dragon, over here!" Spider-Man swings while getting his attention.
Fin Fang Foom sees Spider-Man in his sights as he fires off his breath at him but Spider-Man dodged the attack and getting his attention. Meanwhile Iron Man flew close to the burning buildings as he uses his zero cannon to put out the fires.
Spider-Man continues to dodge everyone of Fin Fang Foom's attack until he got surprised by the attack of the Mandarin with his power rings. One of his rings got Spider-Man trapped in a stasis.
"Let's see how you move from this. Fin Fang Foom, would you like to do the honors?" Mandarin still has Spider-Man trapped.
Fin Fang Foom is about unleash his breath on Spider-Man until Iron Man blasted Fin Fang Foom away with his repulsor blast, he even blasted back Mandarin, freeing Spider-Man from stasis.
"Thanks Iron Man, you saved my life." Spider-Man thanked Iron Man.
"Just repaying a debt." Iron Man says to Spider-Man.
Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom both recovered from the repulsor blast as they see Spider-Man and Iron Man working together.
"So you two are the ones responsible for interfering in our ventures." Mandarin say to them.
"Who are you?" Iron Man asking them.
"I am the Mandarin, leader of the Ten Rings." Mandarin introduced himself.
"And I am Fin Fang Foom." Fin Fang Foom speaks and introduced himself.
"Whoa, the dragon talks." Spider-Man is surprised that he talks.
"I am not a dragon, you insect! I am a Makluan from the planet Kakaranthara!" Fin Fang Foom corrects Spider-Man.
"So you're like an alien dragon." Spider-Man says to Fin Fang Foom.
"No, but I am an alien. Centuries ago, I was one of many who explored your galaxy and visited your planet though something went wrong as my ship crashed down. Unable to fix it, I remained trapped among you primitives, unable to go home to my kind. I remained in hibernation for years until a man came to me. I saw his brilliance and see him as a potential ally, in exchange for his help, I gifted him the ten rings of power." Fin Fang Foom explained his origins.
"And that is how I became the Mandarin. Though as brilliant as I am, even I can't fix his ship. That is until we found someone who can, the great Tony Stark." Mandarin speaks to them.
"So that's why you went after him? You wanted him to fix something of yours?" Iron Man says to them.
"Exactly, hand him over to us or we'll lay waste to this city and everyone in it." Fin Fang Foom demanded they hand over Tony Stark.
"Sorry, but as a member of Tony Stark's security team, I must refuse your demands." Iron Man maintains his secret identity.
"So be it! We'll destroy you both and everyone else here until he comes out of hiding." Mandarin is preparing for battle.
Spider-Man and Iron Man are about to face off against the Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom.
"So which one do you want to fight?" Spider-Man asking Iron Man.
"I'll take the Godzilla here, you take Genghis Khan." Iron Man says to Spider-Man.
"Okay, let's do this." Spider-Man is about to fight.
Iron Man flies up as he fires off his repulsor beams at Fin Fang Foom, but the behemoth uses his wings to fly up into the air.
"Sir, it appears that he can fly." JARVIS tells Iron Man.
"Noted, let's take him far up." Iron Man flies up higher.
Fin Fang Foom follows after Iron Man in the air.
Meanwhile the Mandarin is facing off against Spider-Man.
"I shall destroy you Spider-Man." The Mandarin threatened Spider-Man.
"Destroy? Is that all you do? Terrorizing innocents? You need to find a new hobby, pal." Spider-Man jokes to Mandarin.
"You think of me as a terrorist, I like to consider myself a teacher. So Spider-Man, ready for a lesson?" The Mandarin says to Spider-Man.
"Do I have to stay after class?" Spider-Man jokes again.
The Mandarin uses one of his rings as he fires off a beam of energy at Spider-Man but he missed as Spider-Man is agile.
"You missed!" Spider-Man taunts him.
"Ahhh!" Mandarin getting annoyed by Spider-Man.
Mandarin fires off more beams but he kept missing as Spider-Man is incredibly fast and flexible.
Meanwhile in the air as Fin Fang Foom continues to fire off his breath but Iron Man kept climbing up into the air avoiding his attacks.
"Keep going, higher!" Iron Man flies more up.
Fin Fang Foom flies even higher and fast as his hand reached and grabbed Iron Man as they still fly up too high above. Iron Man is trapped in Fin Fang Foom's grip.
"Did you really think that you could escape from Fin Fang Foom?" Fin Fang Foom still has Iron Man in his grip.
"No, then again I wasn't trying to." Iron Man says to Fin Fang Foom.
Fin Fang Foom realizes that he's too high up as the ice is building up around his scales, freezing him.
"What have you done?" Fin Fang Foom is freezing.
"It's not what I'd done, it's what you've done by flying up at such high altitude. For someone who's supposed to be intelligent, you're not that bright." Iron Man says to Fin Fang Foom.
Fin Fang Foom froze up as he lets go of Iron Man and falls down hard from such high altitude.
Meanwhile back on the ground, the Mandarin still has trouble getting to Spider-Man with his powers. Spider-Man dodged another attack as he webs up Mandarin's eyes, blinding him.
"What is this?" Mandarin has webs stuck on him.
"Webbing I made myself, don't think you want to know what's it's made of." Spider-Man jokes as he got the advantage.
Mandarin removes the webbing off his eyes until he sees Spider-Man running up for a psycho kick, Mandarin got taken out cold. Spider-Man defeated the Mandarin as he webs him up for good measure.
"Class dismissed." Spider-Man jokes at a defeated Mandarin.
Spider-Man looked up and sees Iron Man hovering so close above.
"I see that you got the situation at hand, I was getting worried that Mandarin would be too much for you." Iron Man hovers in the air.
"Nothing I can't handle." Spider-Man says to Iron Man.
They then heard a noise as they looked at the bay and sees something burst out of the water. It's Fin Fang Foom who was frozen in ice and fell into the water, but now he broke out as the fight isn't over yet.
"I thought that you took care of him?" Spider-Man says to Iron Man.
"So did I, looks like the fight is on. Any idea on how to beat him?" Iron Man says to Spider-Man.
"No, but don't worry, remember that King David defeated the Goliath." Spider-Man says to Iron Man.
"That's true." Iron Man says to Spider-Man.
Fin Fang Foom flies back to the city as he sees Spider-Man and Iron Man in his sights, he unleashes his breath upon them but they jumped out of the way.
"Hey! Over here!" Iron Man flies above.
Fin Fang Foom fires off his breath but Iron Man uses his zero cannon to neutralize the flames. Spider-Man is swinging close to the ground as he swings around Fin Fang Foom's legs.
"Hey! Have you seen Empire Strikes Back?!" Spider-Man swings around the legs.
"Kid, this isn't the time for a movie reference!" Iron Man kept firing off his zero cannon.
"Remember that part! On the snow planet! With the walking thingies!" Spider-Man gives a hint at his plan.
"Oh! Hell yeah!" Iron Man got the hint.
Spider-Man finished tying the webbing around Fin Fang Foom's legs as he's trapped. Fin Fang Foom stopped using his breath as he's out of power for now, Iron Man lowers himself down for a shot, he began to charge up his chest piece.
"Here comes the Gallagher!" Iron Man aimed at Fin Fang Foom.
Iron Man's chest piece is fully charged as he unleashed the full blast of his unibeam at Fin Fang Foom, the giant fell down hard on the ground. Iron Man lands down on ground next to Spider-Man.
"Good tactics kid. By the way, they're called walkers, not walking thingies." Iron Man corrects him.
The Mandarin finally freed himself from the webbing as he walks up and sees Fin Fang Foom defeated by Spider-Man and Iron Man.
"You two are relentless, I'll give you that. You may have won the battle, but the war has just begun!" Mandarin hold his rings up.
One of the rings shines out a very bright light as Spider-Man and Iron Man are having a hard time seeing. The light has stopped as they see Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom are both gone.
"They're gone." Spider-Man says to Iron Man.
"For now." Iron man says to Spider-Man.
The crowd came out and see the two heroes emerged victorious as they clapped their hands together.
"Way to go, you two!"
"By the way, who is the new guy?"
"Ladies and Gentlemen, you can call me the Invincible Iron Man." Iron Man tells them who he is
"Let's give it up for Spider-Man and Iron Man!"
The whole crowd cheered together as Spider-Man and Iron Man worked together to save the day. Unknown to them a man is standing among the crowd wearing his sunglasses watching the two heroes, he pulls out his phone and made the call.
"Sir, they did it. How should we proceed?" Phil Coulson says to his superior.
"Do nothing, monitor them. When the time is right, I shall show myself to them." Nick Fury says over the phone.
"Understood." Phil Coulson hangs up.
He puts away his phone as he walks out of the crowd, among his personal effect is a ID card with a symbol of an bird and the word 'S.H.I.E.L.D.'. Whoever they are, Spider-Man and Iron Man are now on their radar.
Back in Forest Hills at the Parker Residence, Peter and Mary Jane are in the bedroom as they're watching the press conference on the news as Tony Stark is speaking about Iron Man.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this city is safe and in good hands thanks to the teamwork of Spider-Man and my personal bodyguard, Iron Man." Tony says to them.
"So this Iron Man works for you?"
"Correct, though I cannot give out details about his identity for good reason, I like to assure the American people that he fights on the side of good, as what happened in these past months has shown us anything is that we need more heroes to help protect us, to give us hope." Tony says to the press.
"What about the damages done to the buildings during the fight?"
"Not to worry, all that will be taken care of thanks to this new subsidiary of mine, it's called Damage Control." Tony created a new company.
"Looks like you started a movement, now there's another hero filling in your shoes." Mary Jane says to Peter.
"If there is one, there could be more coming soon. That's a good thing, this world needs more heroes to keep us safe." Peter says to Mary Jane.
"After what happened today, I'd say that things are about to change a lot, for good or bad." Mary Jane says to Peter.
"Yeah, times are changing, for everyone." Peter agrees with Peter.
Peter realize that with super beings like Doctor Octopus and Tombstone, things got hard, but now there are aliens and people with great powers. This world needs more heroes to keep this world safe from such threats.
Later as the sunsets, Spider-Man stopped by Stark Tower to see Tony Stark still in his lab working on his new suit, this one looked grayish black with heavy weaponry like a gatling gun and mini multiple rocket launcher.
"Wow! Didn't know that you had another one of these." Spider-Man is surprised.
"Like it? I call it the Variable Threat Response Battle Suit." Tony introduced his new invention.
"Not bad, though it's a bit of a mouthful, give it a better name that fits." Spider-Man suggested to Tony.
"Hmm... how about the War Machine?" Tony says to Spider-Man.
"I like it." Spider-Man likes the name.
"Glad that you've stopped by, I'm heading back home." Tony says to Spider-Man.
"You're leaving already?" Spider-Man says to Tony.
"We won a great battle, but the Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom are still out there and still a threat, and they're not the only ones. I need to be out there fighting the big fight." Tony explained his mission.
"I could go with you and back you up." Spider-Man offers his help.
"Thanks, but I should take this one alone. Besides, this city still needs a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man looking out for the little guy." Tony says to Spider-Man.
"Thanks, I'm gonna miss you Mister Stark." Spider-Man says to Tony.
"Mister Stark was my father, please call me Tony, all my friends do." Tony tells Spider-Man.
"So we're friends now?" Spider-Man says to Tony.
"Why not? We make a pretty good team." Tony extends his hand.
Spider-Man took it and shook it, signifying their new friendship.
"We do make a good team. Good luck out there, Tony." Spider-Man says to Tony.
"You too, Pete. If you ever need my help, don't hesitate to ask." Tony says to Spider-Man.
"Likewise." Spider-Man says to Tony.
Spider-Man hears siren from a distance, as did Tony.
"Think that's for you, better get going." Tony tells Spider-Man.
"Right! Duty calls!" Spider-Man jumped off.
Spider-Man swings away towards trouble as Tony Stark watched him go. Tony then thought of some ideas for a new project for Spider-Man.
"JARVIS!" Tony calls to JARVIS.
"Yes Mister Stark." JARVIS asking Tony.
"When we get back home, we gonna start on a new project." Tony says to JARVIS.
"Very good sir. What would you like to call it?" JARVIS says to Tony.
"Mmm, call it... Iron Spider." Tony revealed the new project's name.
