Dite looked around as she snuck back to the tower after midnight that night. She didn't realize that she had missed not only dinner but also her Astronomy class. She knew that Lily and Alice would be worried about her. But she didn't want to face anyone at the moment. It was like everything shattered all because she had a conversation with a Slytherin. She believed that the others are angry with her for running and staying hidden. Stepping through the porthole hole into the common room she breathed a sigh of relief that she wasn't caught by any professors, to receive a detention of house points taken away.
"Glade you made it back." A voice startled her causing her to jump.
Dite looked over at the fire that was still blazing. She saw James sitting on the edge of the love seat with his elbows resting on his knees just stairing at the fire. She felt guilty about making him worry, it reminded her of his son and her best friend Harry. Sure Harry didn't have his arrogance or strutted around the castle, but she could see that Harry got his tendency to feel guilty for causing others harm or hurting them.
"Syngnomi." She whispered.
"No I'm sorry for Sirius." James said looking at her, he really looked like Harry.
"Why are you apologizing for Black?" She tilted her head to the right looking at him.
"He is to pissed to apologize at the moment." He explained sitting back.
"Did my having a conversation with his brother piss him off that much?" She asked sitting next to James.
James looked at her through slitted eyes as he continued to lay against the back of the loveseat with an arm over his forehead. She looked at the fire waiting for an answer and thinking of Harry doing the same thing when Ron messed up big time. Ron always had a way of putting his foot in his mouth or the inability to pull is head out of his arse.
"Sirius tends to be a nutter when it comes to those in his family." James sighed.
"That has what to do with me?"
"I'm getting there, don't get your nickers in a bunch their Dite. Sirius has been told a lot at home he is a disgrace of the family and gets punished for it. Regulus tends to use a lot of home life to get to Sirius, like to get him to give the kid any reaction."
"So your saying that today was a twisted way to communicate between them?" She looked at him.
"I know, it's wonky, but that's how they act. It's worse that Sirius is protective of you, we all are. My dad said that your dads explained that you didn't have a good childhood, and asked us to watch you." James looked at her.
Dite knew that Fabian and Gideon worked with James's father at the DMLI at the Ministry. But wasn't sure what they told him exactly. It explained why the Marauders went out of the way to make sure that she was alright, but Sirius trying to tell her who to speak to was a bit far, like a bit controlling.
"He was telling me who to talk to and who not to." She said.
"I know he is a tosser and her cocked-up trying to keep you from talking to his brother, but he means well." James gave her a slight smile.
"He still needs to apologize to Regulus about punching him." She said getting up from the spot she took next to him.
"I'll try to, you should know Lily tore into him after she founded out why you disappeared, she also tore into me about it." He chuckled.
Before Dite could disappear up the staircase to the dorms, she heard him ask if she'll forgive the boys for being tossers.
"I will, just not tonight."
The next morning she woke up early as the memories she had from her other timeline kept her up. Those about Sirius and how late at night he seemed to be a tad pissed that he would be found out in the back garden with a box of family heirlooms tossing them and blasting them to smithereens. Mrs. Weasley never liked that about Sirius, but knowing that the Head quarters was his family home and having the Portrait of his mother yelling about blood traitors and mudbloods in her home didn't make any of it better. That and feeling responsible for how Harry was acting because he didn't fight Dumbledore harder about them keeping it all a secret that year, Sirius even felt it was his fault that Harry's parents where dead and that he chased after Peter that night, landing in Azkaban for years. She shook her head chasing all those memories back into the box she kept them in, she had to get ready to meet her Baba's a little later.
Getting up and dressing warm, as it was early February in the Northern Scotland Highlands, it was freezing. She stuffed her scarf, gloves, and hat into her bag as she left her dorm with her coat hanging over her arm. When she entered the common room, the younger students where all talking as they always do about either what they were up to at Hogsmead or wishing they could go too. She thought about it, this was the first time she could be a normal teenager with out something happening to disrupt their year, or Harry's life being in danger from a follower of Voldimort trying to kill him. All she had to worry about really was the drama that had unfolded yesterday.
She walked to the Great Hall for breakfast, her stomach growling as she missed dinner and didn't want to brave the kitchens in case she ran in to one of the Professors after curfew. So she sat down and placed some eggs, bacon, a cinnamon roll and fruit on her plate wanting it to tie her over till lunch with her Baba's. To be honest not many students had ventured down to the Great hall yet, which suited her just fine until she felt someone slide onto the bench next to her. Turning her head, she found a Remus piling his plate with food. All the boys ate like each meal was their last. For a few minutes they ate in silence until he coughed gaining her attention.
"Did I hurt you last night when I held you back?" He asked, his voice filled with a bit of sadness.
"I might have a bruise or two but I'm fine really." She said waving it off.
"I'm sorry, I tried to stop him, but he saw you get pulled in to the hidden corridor up a head of us and went nutter." Remus explained.
"It's fine, water under the bridge, and I'm not mad at you, just Sirius as he thinks he can control who I speak to and for judging me for my curiosity." She sighed.
"I understand, it's just he is surrounded by those who seek power and use it."
"I know, James told me last night."
After their light conversation about the evening before, they where joined by Lily and Alice who both asked where she had gone. She told them that she ended up near the Thestrals and spent time there. They had asked how she could see them, she just shrugged and said she had seen someone die in the past and didn't elaborate about that. Soon the three girls had begun the walk to the entrance of the courtyard when Lily was meting her date. Alice and Dite both ducked into the carriage chatting.
"So why did you run?" Alice asked.
"Sirius got angry that I spoke to his brother again." She shrugged.
"I knew that already Dite." Alice raise one of her eyebrows at her.
"I don't know, I wanted to be alone, after the other night and then last night I wanted to be alone." Dite explained with a sigh.
"I understand that, those boys are confusing to say the least." Alice nodded.
"I know, Sirius can go from hot to cold in a matter of minutes, James the same in the right conditions, Remus keeps his anger hidden, Peter doesn't show anything."
"Then you have the other Black." Alice nodded knowingly at Dite.
"Regulus is the one I can't figure out though." Dite twirled her hair around her finger.
The girls talked about other things such as what they wanted to be after graduation in two years. It was a novelty as before Dite wasn't sure what she wanted to do. On one hand she wasted to go into Law inforcment with Harry and Ron, another she wanted to help magical creatures and beings, now she wanted to add to the list becoming an unspeakable so that she can possibly figure out why she was thrown back in time.
"Well here are our ladies." A voice greeted them when their carriage pulled up to the village.
"Yes all three lovely ladies." Another laughed.
"You two never change." A voice joined that Dite didn't recognize.
Stepping out, she saw a man with dark hair that on the side was streaked with gray near his temples. He had dark eyes and a thicker build then Fabian and Gideon. He also looked to be a bit older as well.
"You must be Dite, the other girl my daughter wont stop talking about in her letters." He spoke, the gruffness of his voice coming out.
"Chairete, I'm Aphrodite Prewett, but most call me Dite, Sir." She greeted with a smile and holding her hand out to the man.
"Haden Greengrass, a pleasure to met you." He shook her hand.
"Now that introductions are made, why don't we get to shopping for the girls." The twins spoke together smiling at them all.
Alice and Dite laughed at the silliness of the two. Alice had told her during the slumber party that the twins where funny and that Dite was lucky.
"So where is Lily this fine day?"
"Yes she could have joined us."
Alice spoke up explaining that she had a date today. Fabian asked if Dite had any dates since the beginning of this term, this caused Alice to laugh. Soon Dite explained what had happened had happened between the Black brothers. Gideon groaning at the mention of the two boys, Fabian saying that they were no go for Aphrodite. Mr. Greengrass laughed saying he though the same of Frank Longbottum last year.
Soon the group had entered the stationery to pick up some quills and ink; Alice had found some new ink that was supposed to change color depending on the mood of the writer while writing. This intrigued both the girls, as it was the equivalent of a mood ring, which was popular in the muggle teen girl culture. Alice even bought Lily some as well as a gift as valentines was close at hand with it being a few days away. As the girls shopped, the father's just dotted on them, indulging the two with what they wanted to purchases that day. They had found themselves in the bookshop for Dite; she fond the next book in the series that Remus had gifted her for Christmas, along with some other books.
"Well if it isn't the mouse of Gryffindor." A voice drawled from next to her.
"Hello Snape how's your shopping going?" She asked courteously trying not to sneer at him.
"Not that it matters to a mouse like you, but its fine." He sneered.
"That's perfect as shopping is going fine with Alice and myself, thank you for asking." She smiled at him.
"I didn't ask." He rolled his eyes at her.
"So fallowing Lily with out her knowing, isn't that stalking?" She asked as she noticed he had moved a few books to spy on Lily on the other side of the bookcase.
"I'm making sure she is alright." He spoke, turned to leave when she spoke next;
"I wont tell her you where spying if you tell me something."
"What is it that you want mouse?" He spun and walked right up to her.
"I want to know why you don't like me?" She snapped narrowing her eyes.
"So the mouse is a lion after all." A menacing grin pulled at the corners of his mouth.
"Are you going to answer my question or am I going to walk around and expose you?" She crossed her arms over her chest with the few books she had collected.
"It's not that I don't like you, it's because you are close to Black and Potter and you're an easy target to terrorize." He shrugged.
"So you're just using me as a means to an end?"
"Perhaps." Snape said walking away leaving her alone with that thought.
Dite knew already that Snape hated Potter and Harry, but to use someone that was close to James to get a rise out of him was beyond hatred.
"Dite Lov, are you finished? Alice is saying she is starving to eat." Fabian laughed.
"Yes I am." Her frown changed to a smile as she turned to him.
Walking up to the counter, she noticed that Regulus was waiting there with Snape to check out. When he approached the counter he spoke quietly to the man behind the counter, who nodded in an understanding. When she got up to pay, the man explained to her and Fabian that the books where already paid for. This caused Fab to groan, saying that this was bound to happen.
"What just happened?" She asked him.
"I have a feeling the young Mr. Black who was ahead of us bought those books for you." Fabian sighed.
"Ok, so I'll pay him back another time." She shrugged.
"No they where meant as a gift to you, and also a sign that he may want to court you." Fab explained.
"That's ridiculous, he doesn't want to court me. Maybe its for the other night when he caused the fight between Sirius and himself." She exclaimed.
"Dite, just don't except any jewelry from anyone except Gideon and myself sweetling." He gave her a soft smile.
"Why?" She asked getting to the table the others have grabbed at the Three Broomsticks.
"Because it would mean you except his suit." Fab explained looking at Gideon.
Soon Gideon was filled in on what had happened at the bookshop, he to agree with Fabian. Mr. Greengrass nodded his agreement before saying that it would be a smart match, as the Prewetts where a light family with no connections to the Black whom where considered a dark family. Alice just told her that she was right about Regulus liking her. Dite just shook her head no at her friend. The rest of the day had Fabian and Gideon looking around to make sure that the young Black wasn't around when they entered a shop. They didn't want a misunderstanding to occur between Dite and the boy leading to a misunderstanding between the families.
