Chapter 10 Dueling with the Stars
In the You Show Duel Field, two sides are standing face to face each other. Shuzo asks, "Where is your fourth member?"
"No need to worry, he has some other business to attend to. Though I wonder if we really need him to come, now who should duel first?"
Sora raises his hand and says, "Me!"
"No, it's me!" Vivian steps forward, much to the others' surprise.
Himeka sees her and says, "You must be Sakaki Yuya and Yuni's adopted sister, right? You seem more reliable than the others, I guess you may be the best choice for—"
"Whatever, old lady!" Sora yells. "You don't know how strong I am!"
Yuni puts her hand on his head and says, "Don't worry, Sora. You can duel next time." Sora pouts as he can only agree to it.
"But you shouldn't think that you'll win easily." Himeka says as she turns to the three students. "They are all Junior Youth Class, just like a lot of you. But they're aces in each of LDS' courses. The one who will face Vivian is..."
A boy wearing a zip-up blue and purple jacket over a white long-sleeved shirt, with white pants, olive-colored shoes, and a loose blue belt steps forward and says, "LDS' Xyz Course student: Hokuto Shijima."
"Xyz…" Ron and Jean mutter. Yuni inwardly smirks as the first is actually one of her students.
"Here it is!" Tatsuya just presses the duel disk and sees his information. "LDS' Hokuto Shijima. His record this year is 58 matches, 53 wins?"
Ayu says, "No way, his win rate is above 90%!"
Ryu says, "Not only that, but he easily met the requirements to enter the Junior Youth Championship. He's one of this year's favorites to win the championship."
"Even if he's an ace or a tournament favorite, there is no need to fear." Vivian says. "I'll show you my power."
As the two people head into the field, Shuzo is choosing an Action Field while the others are watching with nervousness.
"Our students can deal with any situation, so choose whatever you like." Himeka says as Shuzo is picking the Action Field.
"Deal with any situation? Then how about this! Action Field On! Field Magic! Cosmo Sanctuary!" Shuzo yells while pressing the button. "Gain the power of the stars and battle, Vivian!"
As the Real Solid Vision activates, the field turns into a sanctuary that had a lot of stars shining on the field. Hokuto sees it and laughs, much to others' confusion, "Hahaha! He chose a field where I'm an expert."
Shuzo is shocked, "What?"
Sora says with a disappointed look, "Since his name is Hokuto aka the Big Dipper, you could have easily figured that out." The words cause Shuzo to petrified.
"I promise to win this duel! I'll win and protect You Show School." Vivian says.
After the starting chant, they start the duel immediately. (Hokuto:4000) (Vivian:4000)
While this is happening, =Akaba Reiji also enters the room to see the match.
Yuni asks, "So Brother, who do you think will win?"
Yuya says, "Hokuto is your student, right? What do you think?"
Yuni smiles, "Both Vivian and Hokuto are my students, so who am I to favor the winner?"
"Now Hokuto, show him your power." Himeko says.
"Understood, Chairwoman." Hokuto says, "I'll go first! I summon Sacred Gredi!"(ATK:1600/DEF:1400 LV:4)
He summons a knight-like monster with red lines on its armor.
"When it's successfully summoned, I can Special Summon one Level 4 Sacred monster from my hand! I Special Summon Sacred Kaust!"(ATK:1800/DEF:700 LV:4)
Gredi releases a burst of blue light from its staff as Hokuto Special Summons Kaust, which is a centaur-like monster.
"Sacred Kaust's effect activates! Twice per turn, I can change a Sacred monster's Level by 1. I use the effect once to increase Sacred Gredi's Level by 1. Then I use the effect for a second time to increase Kaust's Level by 1."
Kaust forms an arrow in its hand and fires it from its bow into the air. It explodes and particles shower Gredi and itself. (LV:4-5)
"Two Level 5 monsters..." Ryu says.
"I overlay Level 5 Sacred Kaust and Sacred Gredi! Light of the stars, come descend and shake this very earth!"
As he is chanting, two monsters become orbs and shoot into the Galaxy portal.
"Xyz Summon! Rank 5! Sacred Pleiades!" (ATK:2500/DEF:1500 RNK:5 OVU:2)
As the knight with a golden armor along with the cosmos cape appears, Katrina says, "Quite impressive."
Ron says, "Sacred deck is not an easy deck to use, though I wonder how Vivian will defeat it."
"I end my turn." Hokuto says as he gives a smug face.
"Xyz summon in the first turn, pretty good." Yuya says.
"But right now if he doesn't get cocky...which I doubt he won't." Yuni says.
"My turn." Vivian draws a card. "I use Magic Card: Ghost Vacuum! By sending three cards to the graveyard, I can gain 1000 LP and draw another card from my deck!"
As the vacuum with a ghost symbol appears on the field, it sucks up 3 of Vivian's cards and she gets her LP. (Vivian:4000-5000) Vivian draws a card and looks at it, she nods and says, "Then I set Continuous Magic: Ghost Zone, with this card, I can negate any destruction from my monsters. I end my turn."
"What? No monsters? Only a Magic Card that negates the destruction of monsters?" Hokuto laughs at her.
"Excuse me, I don't have my monsters in my hand." Vivian rolls her eyes.
"Whatever. You're not worthy of being my opponent anyway. I'll tell you straight. You'll lose!" Hokuto says. "My turn!"
Himeka asks, "Only a Ghost Zone, what is she planning?"
Yuni says, "You'll see."
Gongenzaka says, "What is Vivian doing?"
Ron says, "I guess I know since I was defeated by that tactic before."
"What?" He exclaims. "How?"
Hokuto says, "Ever since I mastered Xyz Summoning, I've won 40 consecutive duels. This will be my 41st victory in a row. My turn." He draws a card and continues, "Battle! Sacred Pleiades attack you directly!"
Vivian looks around and sees the shooting stars from above. "There should be an Action Card where the shooting star fell on the temple."
One of them hits a nearby building, revealing the location of an Action Card.
Before she can reach the card, Pleiades blocks her path, and Hokuto chuckles and holds up the card he was after. "Did you come here to look for this?"
"Impossible! When did you get it?" Vivian asks.
"I'm an expert in this field. I know the exact timing of when and where a shooting star carrying an Action Card will fall." Hokuto says. "And I also got some training from the Vice President, so it's pointless."
Vivian looks at Yuni with a little glare, but Yuni doesn't seem fazed as she knows that Vivian might find a way to counter the attack.
Gongenzaka says, "This is bad. He's anticipating her every move."
Ryu says, "He didn't lie when he said that he's an expert in this field."
"Yeah, but now that Vivian is in trouble." Yuzu says.
Shuzo is covering his head and says, "Forgive me, Vivian... But please get fired up! Get your blood boiling!"
"Now continue to attack directly." Vivian is blasted by the hit as she falls down to her knees.
"Vivian!" Everyone exclaims. (Vivian:5000-2500)
Hokuto mocks, "Even though you are the sibling of Sakaki Yuya and Sakaki Yuni, you can't do anything against me. You're going to lose pathetically, and this school will be placed under LDS' control."
"No! I won't let that happen!" Vivian yells as she struggles to get up, but only Yuni notices that she is smirking and she is confused.
"Then try to stop me. I set one card and end my turn." Hokuto mocks.
"My turn." Vivian says, "I summon Ghost Force Gas Spirit." (ATK:1600/DEF:1600, LV:4)
As the card appears in the defense mode, Vivian says, "And when there is a Ghost Force monster and Ghost Zone on the field, I can special summon Ghost Force Human Spider."(ATK:2500/DEF:2000 LV:7)
As a half-human half spider monster appears on the field, it gives terrifying vibes to the children.
"Vivian, it's boring if you don't do more entertaining things!" Sora yells.
"I don't have time for entertainment right now!" Vivian retorts back, causing Sora to pout. Ryu says, "Maybe Sora is still bitter about the fact Vivian beat him..."
"I guess so." Jean replies. "But Vivian seems to be serious."
"Her desire to protect You Show has her fired up as well..." Yuya adds.
"I can't afford to lose the duel..." Vivian thinks, and then she sees another shooting star, then she mounts on the spider monster and goes after it.
Yuya sighs, "This is not good for Vivian..."
Hokuto says, "This is within my expectations. Sacred Pleiades' effect activates! By using one Overlay Unit, one card on the field returns to the hand! I choose Ghost Force Human Spider!"
As Pleiades absorbs an Overlay Unit into its fist, Human Spider is enveloped in orange light and causing her to fall out of reach of the card.
"He did it at the exact time on purpose!" Gongenzaka yells in anger.
As Vivan slips from the roof, her friends scream her name. Vivian says, "When Human Spider left the field, I can draw a card." She draws the card and then continues, "I activate Quick-Play Magic Card, Ghostly Float, with this card, I won't be taking any damage until the end phase."
Vivian floats for a while until she lands on the roof.
"Well done." Hokuto praises.
"Hey, how could you put her in such danger!" Ayu yells.
"Yeah, he just does anything to win..." Tatsuya mutters.
"That is so dirty that I can't get the shivers." Futoshi yells.
Vivian manages to get the Action Card and Hokuto says, "So you haven't given up yet... Then Action Magic: Cosmic Arrow, This card destroys a Magic Card that was added to your hand other than by drawing."
"What?" Vivian gasps as her card just get destroyed by the arrow. "Too bad. Just when you got it." Hokuto says.
"I end my turn." Vivian mutters with slight anger.
Hokuto says, "My turn." He draws the card and says, "I summon Sacred Sombres!" (ATK:1550/DEF:1600 LV:4)
As a female-like monster appears, he says, "Sacred Sombres' effect activates! Once per turn, by banishing a Sacred monster in my graveyard, I can add a Sacred Monster in my graveyard to my hand! I add Sacred Kaust to my hand!"
Then he banished Gredi and returns Kaust to his hand. "And on the turn that this effect activates, I can summon one Sacred Monster. I summon Sacred Kaust!"
As Kaust returns to the field, Vivian says, "Two monsters with the same Level. That means..."
"I'm not done! I activate Sacred Kaust's effect! Twice per turn, I can raise a monster's Level by 1! I select Sombre and Kaust and raise their Levels by 1!"
After the effect activates, Vivian mutters, "Level 5! Does that mean..."
"I overlay Level 5 Sombre and Kaust! Xyz Summon! Rank 5! Sacred Pleiades!" (ATK:2500/DEF:1500 RNK:5 OVU:2)
"Damn it, another Pleiades..." Vivian grits her teeth.
"Since I've met the requirements, I'm going to show you the trick I learned from the Vice President herself! I can Xyz Summon this card by using one Sacred Pleiades!" Hokuto yells.
Vivian gasps and she says, "Another Xyz?"
"Rain down your dazzling light! Xyz Summon! Appear! Rank 6! Sacred Ptolemys Messier 7!" (ATK:2700/DEF:2000 RNK:6 OVU:2)
As the monster appears, Yuni just gives a small smile and turns to Yuya, "Seems like he did do the homework I asked him to do."
"Indeed, but now Vivian is in trouble." Yuya says.
A shooting star reveals another Action Card and Vivian rushes towards it by using the Gas Spirit's Gas. Hokuto says, "You don't know when to give up. I use Sacred Pleiades' effect! By using one Overlay Unit, Ghost Force Gas Spirit returns to your hand!"
After the monster disappears, Vivian falls into an abyss between two floating stones, but she manages to grab hold of a stone just in time. She hoists herself up and continues for the card.
"Now battle! Pleiades, attack her directly!" Hokuto yells, and the sword of the monster glows purple and extends, Vivian widens her eyes as it cleaves away the pillars supporting the building the card is in.
"Vivian!" The You Show Students yell as debris rains down on her. Vivian says, "I can't give up for now!" Then she runs into the building until it collapses entirely.
"Seems like I win the duel." Hokuto says. But then much to his shock, Vivian breaks out of the rubble and holds the card.
"Vivian!" Yuzu, Ryu, and Gongenzaka are relieved, Ron, Jean, Yuya, and Yuni give small smiles.
"No way!" Hokuto yells. "You're supposed to lose the duel!"
"Doing what I'm supposed to won't get people excited." Vivian smirks, "When I am about to have a direct attack, I can summon my Shadow Masks as monsters!" Vivian yells as two masks appear from the graveyard in defense position. (ATK:1000/DEF:1000 LV:4)
Katrina is surprised and she says, "That tactic..."
"I was defeated by that tactic." Ron says. "Pretty strong indeed."
"Even though you have two monsters and the Action Card, you are going to lose! I attack your masks with Ptolemys Messier 7!"
As Ptolemys Messier 7 prepares its attack, its wings glow gold, Vivian says, "I use the Action Card, Twinkle Comet! Your monster loses 1000ATK points until the end of the turn, and you take 500 damage."
A meteor strikes Ptolemys Messier 7 on the chest, reducing its ATK. (ATK:2700-1700)
"And due to the Ghost Force, my monsters won't be destroyed!" Vivian yells as the attack sends her blown back. Hokuto also gets damaged by the comet as he falls down. (Hokuto: 4000-3500)
"Damn it, how dare you damage me for the first time after 40 consecutive wins..." Hokuto says in anger. "I activate the Continuous Magic Card: Sacred Tempest! I can activate this card when I have two or more Sacred Xyz Monsters on my field."
He starts to laugh maniacally and yells, "Crush her! This effect halves your LP at the end of the turn! I end my turn!"
Meteors rain down from the sky, all aimed at Vivian. Vivian frantically dodges them, but a meteor's explosion strikes Vivian from behind. (Vivian: 2500-1250)
"Ptolemys Messier 7's ATK returns to normal. I'll do whatever it takes to finish you next turn." Hokuto yells, still in a maniacal state.
"What do you think you're doing?" "That's right!" The kids try to yell at Hokuto, but he yells, "Shut up! Dueling is a battle! I'll do anything to win!"
"You're wrong! I don't want to hurt anyone!" Vivian yells, causing Yuzu to have flashbacks of Yuto. "Besides, all I did was just let you show yourself, I could have ended you before you do anything."
"What?" Hokuto yells, "What do you mean by that?"
"Don't you see the Shadow Masks on the field, I actually sent them to the graveyard with the effect of Ghost Vacuum in the first turn."
This causes Hokuto to be surprised and he yells, "So you could use it when I was using Pleiades to attack in the last turn..."
"Of course, I get the damage so I can trick you to believe you are winning. After all, Ghosts are tricksters." Vivian gives a smirk which causes Hokuto to seethe in anger.
Yaiba says, "Wow, he was tricked really hard."
Masumi says, "She is quite strong, no wonder she is part of the Sakaki."
Vivian says, "Now the fun has just begun!"
Then the spotlight shines on her. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Right now I am going to end the duel in this turn."
As everyone cheers for her, Katrina says, "She is also like our Dad..."
Yuni says, "Yeah."
Vivian says, "Time for the grand finale! I over my 2 Level 4 Ghost Force Shadow Masks!"
"What?" Hokuto is shocked. Then Vivian chants, "Fire that lit in the darkness, suck up the life force and makes the light brighter! Xyz Summon! Come forth! RNK4! Ghost Force: Burning Chandelier!" (ATK:2500/DEF:2000 RNK:4 OVU:2)
As a chandelier with purple flames appears on the field, it gives them shivers. Gongenzaka says, "So Vivian is an Xyz User?"
Yuya says, "Of course. She is also a strong one."
Hokuto says, "You manage to do Xyz summon, but I detach one Overlay Unit to use my Pleiades' effect! Once per turn I can return a special summoned monster from the field back to your hand! Say goodbye to your monster!"
As Pleiades absorbs an Overlay Unit into its fist, Chandelier is enveloped in orange light. Vivian yells, "Not this time! I use my Trap Card from my graveyard! Ghost Force Invisibility!"
"From the graveyard again?" Hokuto is shocked. Yuya says, "So she could have done it with the Human Spider back then..."
"By banishing this card, I can negate one monster's effect! And if my opponent controls Xyz monsters, all Overlay Units my opponent has must be sent to the graveyard!"
"What?" Hokuto says in horror as the Overlay Units on Ptolemys Messier 7 are gone.
"Now by detaching one Overlay Unit from Burning Chandelier, I can take all Pleiades' ATK to itself! Life Force Suck!" Vivian says as the Chandelier stops in front of the warrior and starts to take its ATK. (ATK:2500-5000)(ATK:2500-0)
Of course, Hokuto doesn't want to give up, so he finds an Action Card with ease and yells, "Action Magic! Twinkle Comet! I can decrease your monster's ATK by 1000 and you get 500 damage!" Hokuto says as a comet hits her. (ATK:5000-4000)(Vivian:1250-750)
"I will destroy you just by using Action Cards, I have been trained in this field and I am not going to lose!" Hokuto yells as he tries to get to another place where the Shooting star is about to land, but Vivian says, "I won't let you do it." Then she jumps on Chandelier and flies towards the shooting star.
"What?!" Hokuto cries as Vivian picks the hot Action Card, as it is burning her hands.
"Hot...hot...hot..." Vivian says. "Now battle! I attack Pleiades with Burning Chandelier! Hell Inferno!"
As the flames reach Hokuto, he yells, "My 41st win streak..." (Hokuto:3500-0)
"Vivian won!" Yuzu says in shock. Then the students from You Show cheer her.
"This duel is really hot-blooded!" Shuzo yells in excitement.
Reiji was watching the duel in the shadows, and he smiles a little to see Vivian wins the duel.
As the two people go outside the field, Vivian is tackled by Tatsuya, Ayu, and Futoshi, who also congratulate her.
"Vivian, you are doing a great job." Katrina says.
"I, the man Gongenzaka is touched at the wonderful display you give us!" He says while bursting into tears.
Meanwhile, when Hokuto gets back, Hokuto is kneeling down and Yuni scolds, "You let your guard down so easily. Never underestimate your opponent, that is what you lack ever since you have your 40 wins in a row. Let this be a lesson for you."
Hokuto is crying in anime tears, he says, "Yes, Vice President."
Then Yuya sighs and says, "Now what will the next duel be..."
Here is the new chapter. Vivian has defeated Hokuto, and the duel is interesting to write about as well. The next duel is going to be Masumi versus Yuzu.

Ghost Vacuum:
Normal Magic Card
Effect: Send up to 3 cards from your hand to the graveyard, then recover 1000 LP and draw one card.
Ghost Force Human Spider:
Dark Attribute, LV:7 Insect/Effect ATK:2500/DEF:2000
Effect: You can special summon it if you have a Ghost Force monster and a Ghost Zone on the field, when this card leaves the field, you can add one Magic Card from your deck to your hand.
Ghostly Float:
Quick Play Magic
Effect: You won't take damage until the end of the turn when this card is activated.
Ghost Force Invisibility:
Normal Trap Card
Effect: Negate the effect and send the target's every Overlay unit into the graveyard when the opponent activates the effect from an Xyz monster. You can also activate the effect by banishing this card into the graveyard.
