Note: Okayyy, so... I know I said I would update before 2021, but before 2023 isn't so bad, right? RIGHT!? I'm sorry for being away for so long, I lost interest in Pokémon for a while, and school + covid also drained me of my motivation and creativity, but (spoiler for the Sword and Shield anime) the reveal of Paul returning to the anime threw me into the Pokémon fandom again, and I feel like I'm getting back to my old self now that Covid is almost gone. I don't feel like that will last long however as I have atleast 8-10 national tests this spring (and also A LOT of other school work). But I will try to stay motivated and will update this as often as possible.

And since the question was asked, this story takes place in the anime universe. I just feel like I have a lot more freedom there as the game rules don't really apply.

That was all for the notes, I don't want them to be longer than the actual chapter ;)

-o-o-o-

I stepped into the forest a few hours ago at around 11am, that was the last time I would see Lumiose City for a while, but I didn't think much about it. I had switched my gaze between the map in my hands and the path I was walking on so many times that I got dizzy. In other words, my mind had a lot to do. I eventually decided to put the map in my bag and just take it out whenever I needed it, Eevee had been walking beside me the whole time looking at our surroundings, she must also have been exited to explore the world, this was most likely her first time outside of Lumiose City, after all. During our walk we hadn't seen many Pokémon except for some Butterfree and a Weedle, but they didn't catch our attention so we instead used the time we were wasting to get used to walking long distances, after all, that is a part of journeying.

Now Eevee and I have been walking in the forest for two hours, I picked up my map and looked at it, after a minute I concluded that me and Eevee could make it to Santalune City before dark, but we would have to walk at a fast pace. If we were unlucky we would have to set up a tent somewhere in the forest and I REALLY don't feel like sleeping uncomfortably on my first night as a trainer. Since both Eevee and I want to make it to Santalune today we agreed on a strict schedule, try to not catch anything unless we really want to, and lunch is at 2pm and lasts for 15 minutes at maximum, at 6pm we have dinner that lasts maximum 20 minutes. Right now the time was only 1pm so we weren't really in trouble as the sun goes down pretty late in the middle of summer, but it would still be good to be out of the forest before 8pm. If we make it out of the forest today we could challenge the gym as early as tommorow, and the quicker we get to battle, the quicker I get my first Gym Badge. And while we're there I'm planning on stocking up on things like bandages, food and anything else I might need as I'm short on pretty much everything, which by the way was my fault.

We were surrounded by trees, all we could see were more of them as we walked. I started thinking about random stuff, nothing too important, as I was deep in my thoughts I felt something tugging my pants, I looked down to see Eevee looking up at me with glowing eyes, her mouth drooling.

"Oh, are you hungry?" I asked.
"Mhm, vai!" she nodded and looked at me.
"Sorry Eevee, we decided on 1pm together, you'll have to wait a while, I don't want the food to run out. My fault, I didn't pack enough, so we strictly need to follow the plan so that we can make it to Santalune and buy everything we need," I explained, I could tell by her expression that she wasn't happy, she pouted her mouth and then stuck out her tounge at me, but she wasn't doing it seriously, so we just laughed together a bit and then went on.

We walked for around 15 minutes or so but not much was happening, the forest was very quiet today. The sun was shining and there were almost no clouds in the sky, the flowers on the side of the path were blooming and showed strong and lively colors. As I was about to make a comment to Eevee about how everything seemed so calm we heard a weird sound and turned our heads to the left, where the sound was coming from. Just a second later we see a Vivillion fly out from the bushes and crash to the ground, unconsious. Eevee walked up to it and just as she was about to sniff it the wild Pokémon suddenly shot up and flew away while repeating it's name.

"Well that was weird..." I mumbled, but I quickly turned my head to the left again as I heard another strange noise. Eevee got battle ready and I braced myself from whatever was coming towards us, I was sure it's the same thing that hurt Vivillion. We heard the noises coming closer and eventually the creature popped out from the bushes... and Eevee and I were both confused and disappointed.

"Vai?" Eevee said, confused.
"Wow, it's just a Fletchling," I said, my voice not hiding any disappointment, I had expected it to be something bigger and more interesting. Not sure of what to do I just picked up the Pokédex, despite knowing what Pokémon it was (my dad has a Talonflame). I scanned the little bird and listened, knowing to much can't hurt me after all.

"Fletchling, the Tiny Robin Pokémon. Despite the beauty of its lilting voice, it's merciless to intruders that enter its territory."

I looked up at the bird and it's furious gaze and quickly put two and two together.

"Uhm, Eevee, I think we might be on it's territory."
"Ee-vee," Eevee said and nodded in agreement.

Then, before we could discuss what to do, Fletchling's beak started glowing white and it flew towards us at a very high speed.

"That's peck! Quick Eevee, move out of the way!" I threw myself to the left and Eevee jumped to the right, Fletchling went past us like a woosh, "it's fast, we need to be careful!"
"Chling-chling!" Fletchling's voice was full of rage, ready to chase out us dirty intruders.
"I'm sorry Fletchling, we didn't know it was your territory, we promise to not come back! Please, we promise, just don't hurt us, I have so much to live for!" I begged, my begging did nothing as the little bird charged at us with another peck, "Eevee, try to not get hit!"
"Bvai!" she grunted as she jumped out of reach from Fletchling, she then ran over to me, waiting for orders.
"It seems like we don't have a choice Eevee, we will have to battle it. Well, I guess a Fletchling isn't bad as a first catch, do you agree Eevee?"
"Bai-vai!" she agreed, we turned our gazes back to the Fletchling who seemed to be getting ready to do another peck attack.
"Okay, Eevee, let's do this! First we just wait for Fletchling to attack again, and then we counter and catch it, got that?" I looked down at Eevee for a quick second, she nodded to me and I nodded back.

Just as we finished the "inspiring" conversation we heard Fletchling's cry again and we got ready for whatever it would do next. Just as we predicted it tried peck again, I just waited for it to get a little closer and...

"Now Eevee, jump and use bite!" I called.

Right as Fletchling was about to hit her she jumped, she was now above it and had a quick second to attack, in the right moment she hit the bird and it went to the ground.

But before I could celebrate, Fletchling got up, and it looked like it had barely taken any damage. Its eyes showed even more fury than before and it got ready to attack again; it's wings turned white and a small whirlwind appeared, and there I got a big problem, Eevee was still right next to Fletchling, and she was clearly the target for its next attack!
"Quick Eevee get out of there!" I called, but before she could react Fletchling's wings released some glowing stripes that hit Eevee from close range, sending her into the small cliff-wall to my right.
"What move was that!?" I exclaimed, whatever it was it must've been strong as Eevee clearly took much damage from the attack, the pokédex heard me and it turned on.

"Razor Wind, a normal type move and long-range attack, the move has an increased ratio of dealing critical damage."

'That move sounds really dangerous, we need to be careful, this isn't a weak Fletchling,' I thought to myself as I watched Eevee get up, a bit shaken, but still able to fight.

"Are you alright, Eevee?" I called to her, she nodded but stayed focused on Fletchling.

'It's a shame Eevee only knows physical attacks, especially since it's hard and dangerous to get close, there must be some way we can deal with this...'

The Fletchling got up in the air again, and well, now it would be impossible to hit it. We could try to run away, but I don't think it would let us go. The Pokémon cried out its name and used Quick Attack.

"Eevee, counter its Quick Attack with your Quick Attack!"
"Evui!" Eevee shouted as she ran towards Fletchling, they collided but the wild Pokémon overpowered her, by a lot. She flew into a tree behind me and struggled to get up. Realising it would be impossible to beat this thing, I looked for ways to get out of here, I didn't see a lot of options so I settled on just running as fast as I could towards Santalune City.
"Eevee, let's get out of here, this is a battle we can't win!" I called.
"Ebai!" Eevee called back as she ran to me, we then ran as fast as we could, but Fletchling was following us, still wanting to fight. We only ran around 15 meters before it's wings started glowing, but instead of doing Razor Wind like before, it flew towards us at high speed.
"Eevee, jump to the side!" I shouted, Eevee dodged last second and Fletchling flied to about ten meters in front of us.
'Now what was THAT move!?' I checked the Pokédex to see if it knew.

"Steel wing, a steel-type move and close-range attack, it has a small chance of raising the users defense by one stage."

"That must be a powerful move, just how strong is this Pokémon..." I mumbled to myself. Just as we were bracing ourselves for Fletchling's next attack we heard a voice coming from our right, more specifically from the top of the (very) small cliff.

"Pichu, use Thunder Shock!"

A Pichu came out of nowhere and fired the move against Fletchling, unfortunately it dodged pretty easily. I picked up my Pokédex for the forth time today and scanned the Pokémon.

"Pichu, the Tiny Mouse Pokémon, Pichu stores electricity in the sacs on its cheeks but discharges it inadvertently when agitated or excited. Being yet immature, the Pokémon's handling of electricity is rather inept."

'Wow, that was actually very interesting! But what does "inept" mean?' I forgot about the question as I looked up from my Pokédex. Now Pichu wasn't the only one there, another person, who I assume was it's trainer, also stood there now. I couldn't see her face as she was facing Fletchling, but I could tell that she had dark-brown, wavy-curly hair reaching her back. She had a black blouse and black pants, I couldn't tell the color of her shirt from where I was standing

The Fletchling charged towards them with Quick Attack, but the girl didn't even flinch, it was like she was waiting for the right moment. Then as Fletchling was just a few meters away she called out an order.

"Now Pichu, Nuzzle!" Lots of yellow sparks surrounded Pichu and Fletchling, as Pichu stopped you could see that Fletchling's legs were shaking, it had taken visible damage.
"Great," the girl shouted, "now, go Pokéball!"

Fletchling was sucked in by the red light and the Pokéball started shaking, after a few seconds that probably felt a lot longer than they actually were the pokéball clicked.

The girl went up to Pichu and patted it on its head.

"Good job Pichu, this is probably the best catch so far," then she quickly turned to me, "thank me later." And then she quickly ran away before I could say anything.

"Who was that..." I mumbled.
"Evui..." Eevee looked in front of us with a curious gaze, then she shook her head and we continued forward.

.,.,

It's been 45 minutes since we were saved by that girl, and we haven't gotten into any more trouble yet. Eevee had been complaining about hunger for a few minutes and now I could feel my own stomach longing for some food, I checked the digital wristwatch on my right arm and it said 2:03pm.

"Okay Eevee, time for lunch, but let's be quick so we make it to Santalune City in time!" I sat down on a rock and took out a sandwich, it was filled with salad, tomatoes, cheese and more. Eevee happily jumped up onto my lap, drooling at the sight of the food.
"You also want some, right?" I asked, giggling a bit at Eevee's expression.
"Ebaibai!" she shouted, trying to take a bite, but I got the sandwich out of her reach last second.
"Hey hey, calm down. I also want some lunch!" I scolded with a sarcastic tone, I broke the sandwich in half and gave one to Eevee while I ate the other one. Lunch only took us around 10 minutes to eat and we were mostly quiet and didn't talk, after that we quickly got up and started going towards Santalune City.

Just like before not much seems to be happening, it's pretty clear Eevee and I are still a bit shaken from our encounter with Fletchling, we're both paying more attention to our surroundings now. More Pokémon seemed to be coming out, but nothing was really getting our attention, they're just the usual Wurmples and Pidgeys. The weather was still nice, there were a bit more clouds now, but not so many that it covered the light blue sky.

"Eevee, isn't it nice that the weather has been good all day?"
"Vai," Eevee said with a big smile on her face, clearly happy. She jumped down from my shoulder and ran in a few circles in front of me before getting up on me again.
"You're excited, aren't you?"

We walked for a few hours, determined to reach Santalune City before dark. Of course, we took a few breaks in between, we do not have the energy to walk 4 hours non-stop! And yes, we were walking that long and still not reaching the city, the path was a lot longer than I thought it would be. I could now see that it wouldn't be long before dark and I was becoming more sure by the minute that we would have to set up a tent for the night. I notice Eevee jumping down from my shoulder, perking up her ears and looking to the left

"Something there, Eevee?" I asked, Eevee nodded and got ready for battle, "Let's hope it isn't a Pokémon looking to cause trouble."

I heard the bushes rustle for a second and then a Pokémon walked out. It was white with blue stripes and was super-cute, it walked out to the middle of the path before it noticed us. It didn't seem to be scared, just wondering who in the world we were.

"I recognize this Pokémon, but I can't remember the name of it, I'm sure I've seen it before!" I took out my Pokédex and scanned it.

"Pachirisu, the EleSquirrel Pokémon. Though Pachirisu is a calm Pokémon, it still presents a danger should one touch its electrified tail or cheeks.

"Wow, a Pachirisu! But..." I paused for a second, "I don't think they usually live here... well maybe it's just a sign that we're meant to have this one on our team, don't you think so Eevee?"
"Ebai!" Eevee agreed and she waited for me to call the first attack.

Pachirisu seemed to notice what we were planning and it's expression changed from wondering to fury.

"Eevee, let's get our first catch, use Tackle!" Eevee immediately started running towards Pachirisu with the attack, but it quickly dodged, bounced against a tree and came towards Eevee with Quick Attack. I didn't have time to react and Eevee got hit, she rolled on the ground a few meters but got up as soon as she stopped, the attack had gotten an extra boost from Pachirisu bouncing against that tree.
"Okay, this Pokémon seems to know what it's doing, we need to be careful when it attacks!"
"Ebai!"Eevee said, looking at Pachirisu intensely, the electric type didn't waste any more seconds and ran towards us with it's body surrounded in blue electricity.
"Eevee, look out!" Eevee jumped out of the way last second and Pachirisu stopped and turned to not lose sight of her, I quickly picked up my pokédex.

"Spark, an electric type move and close-range attack, if the move is used it has a small chance of leaving the opponent paralyzed."

"This sounds like a dangerous move, it's best to avoid it. Or well, it's best to avoid any attack really if we want to capture it, but still. Eevee, don't let your guard down!"
"Chu-pa... iiiiiii!" Pachirisu let out that scream as it let out lots of electricity around it, some of it hit Eevee and it did noticeable damage.
"Evuiii!" she cried in pain, but she quickly shook of the attack and looked back at me, eager to attack back.
"We won't let that thing take us down! Eevee, use Quick Attack!"

As the Pachirisu was catching its breath from its recently used Spark Eevee came flying towards it at high speed, the attack made a direct hit and sent Pachirisu flying a few meters back, but it quickly got up again and was readying its next attack. We didn't waste a second and Eevee immediately used another Quick Attack, but at the last second a bluegreen shield-like thing appeared in front of Pachirisu, stopping Eevee's attack. Eevee bounced back a few meters but seemed to be unhurt.

"That was protect, that'll be a pain to get around," I muttered, "Eevee use bite!"

As Eevee got closer Pachirisu got ready to jump.

"Grab its tail!" I shouted, Eevee listened and managed to grab onto Pachirisu's tail, inflicting noticeable damage, but Pachirisu's tail started glowing and sparks showed up, electrocuting Eevee.
"Oh no, I forgot about its electrified tail, Eevee I'm so sorry!"

Eevee seemed to forgive me but was struggling a bit to get up now, she managed to do it eventually and looked aggressively at the other Pokémon. Pachirisu surrounded itself in blue electricity as it launched a Spark attack.

"Eevee, quick, get out!" I shouted, but instead Eevee didn't move, but I noticed something appearing around her tail and before I knew it she shot stars into Pachirisu, blocking the opposing Pokémon's attack.
"What was that?" I asked myself as I (once again) opened my Pokédex.

"Swift, a normal type move and long-range attack, this attack never misses."

"An attack that never misses? Wow, Eevee, you're awesome, this will help us so much!"

Eevee looked back at me with a smile, but I could tell she was growing tired, she looked back at the Pachrisu who was also staring back, its cheek were sparking with anger.

"Let's finish this, Eevee. use Swift!"
"Evai!" Eevee jumped up in the air with stars surrounding her tail, she grunted as she fired the attack, Pachrisu put up Protect and blocked it.
"Oh, maybe this 'never misses' thing only works when the opposing pokémon ISN'T using protect," I sighed, I Eevee stared at me with a look that screamed 'Well no shit Sherlock'.

Pachirisu charged towards us with Spark, that's when I got an idea.

"Eevee, use Bite!" Eevee and Pachrisu clashed and there was a small explosion from their attacks colliding, "Now, Swift!"

Eevee was so close that Pachirisu didn't get a chance to react and was hit, the damage it had taken was clear now, but it wasn't done fighting as it ran towards us with Quick Attack.

"Eevee, Quick Attack, you too!"

Eevee and Pachirisu ran towards eachother and I waited until the last second to yell, "Now, jump!"

Eevee was now both behind the Pokémon AND above, this was our best chance.

"Swift!"
"Ebuiii!" Eevee shouted as she fired the stars, Pachirisu only had time to turn around before getting hit. It was sent atleast 10 meters back into a tree, now really struggling to get up.
"Alright, let's catch it! Pokéball, go!" I threw my Pokéball and it hit Pachirisu on the head, it was sucked in by the Pokéballs red light.

The ball started moving around and I watched it fully concentrated, after what felt like and hour it finally clicked. It took me a few seconds to process the new information, but when I saw Eevee happily jumping up and down it finally hit me... I had caught a Pokémon!

"We... we did it! We actually did it Eevee, we caught a Pokémon!" Eevee and I hugged eachother and then finally went and picked up the Pokéball, "Pachirisu, I'm sure we're going to be good friends!"

Eevee and I gave eachother a high five and then we walked on, talking about the Pokémon we just caught.

.,.,

Eevee and I had been walking for around 45 minutes since caught our new friend, but I noticed that it was really getting dark now, and I was afraid of what Pokémon might show up.

"Eevee, it's getting late, we should set up our tent around here," I told my partner, but she quickly shook her head and jumped down from my shoulder. She ran forward a few meters and then signalled for me to follow her.
"Ebai!"
"You want me to follow you?" I asked.
"Ebai-bai!" she nodded and I ran after her and after I minute I saw it, houses and lights. Eevee jumped back onto my shoulder and pointed her paw in that direction.
"That's Santalune City!" I exclaimed, "and I can see the Pokémon Center!"

As soon as I said that I ran to the city, excited for my future Gym Battle (and for a comfy bed).

-o-o-o-

Before I go I just want to say a few things. I know this chapter was pretty bad, and it's entirely my fault, I haven't really written anything in almost 2 years so the quality in my writing has gone down. And I didn't properly plan this chapter either, I just knew Pachirisu would join the team by the end and Eevee would learn Swift. I promise this will be the last time I do mistakes like that, I just wanted to finish the chapter before I lost interest in Pokémon, so I didn't think enough about the quality, so I apologize for that.

This time I won't say when the story will be updated as anything can change, but I hope to update atleast once more this year, but it isn't a promise.

Bye! :)
