Alastor had grown to adore the fox demon's company in the kitchen. She would dance and hum while efficiently working. He found himself watching her day to day and found himself requesting her help more often. That being said he wasn't entirely sure what to do with her or these new found emotions. He was actually tolerating her rather than seeing her as a toy as he did everyone else. Maybe it was her silent disposition or her love of music or maybe her usefulness in helping or even her more secretive nature he was discovering. She was no buffoon, and the more he watched, the more of an intelligent being he saw. Something that he rarely cared for. Secretly, he was hoping Charlie would say yes to her help. If she said yes, then he could observe Selena, learn her weakness, and hopefully destroy her. Or torture her. Torturing her would only be sweet if he knew what her soft spots were. The only one he knew of so far was Charlie, but that would end badly. Lucifer would try to send him to "double hell" for doing any sort of manipulation involving his daughter.
The only fondness or affection Alastor would allow himself to feel was for his mother. That woman was a saint and angel. This woman may have been named a saintess by her goddess, but she would disappoint him like everyone does. That's why he destroyed disappointments before they arose.
Speaking of this woman, she was standing next to him in the kitchen mixing batter for pancakes dancing in place to a boogie playing on his mic and quietly humming along. He only noticed due to his enhanced hearing."So, cherie, I've noticed you like music. What kinds?" Music was his love. At least one of his loves. But music determined a lot about a person. And helped determined if he could lose this dumb fondness he found in her.
"Mmm. I love all kinds of music, but electro-swing is special to my heart. I also love folk ballads and lullabies. Mmm. It's hard to make a real choice though." Well that didn't help very much. Electro-swing was great! But people who liked all music were enigmas. Either they were lying or complicated. And he suspected the latter. "Hey, Al. The Extermination is coming up soon. I know Charlie wants to have a party to celebrate one year of the hotel's founding. What are your food plans? And do you need any help?" She had finished making the batter, shoved the bowl towards him, and began cutting fruit.
"I have an extravagant buffet planned and need a lot of help." Alastor had finished the eggs, and began making pancakes on the griddle.
"How much time do you need to prep and finish?"
"Probably half of the day before Extermination Day, all of Extermination Day, and half of the anniversary. I will take all the help I can get. Ready to work yourself to death?" Alastor gave a rakish wink.
"Mmm. All the days except for Extermination Day. 'Fraid I've got plans." She returned his wink with a solicitous one of her own.
"Plans on Extermination Day? Rather odd." He quipped more to himself than her.
"Yeah. Perhaps, but it's the truth." Alastor looked over at her and saw all the fruit cut. It was so quick!
"Well I'll take what I can get!" He grinned at her and continued cooking. Breakfast was quickly served and finished. The two collected the dishes and began cleaning together. Both humming along to the newest song on Alastor's mic.
"Do you regret your rise to power, Al?" Selena stopped. "Sorry,I was thinking to myself, and it just slipped out!" She was waving her hands in the air sending dish soap bubbles and bits of water around her. "Please don't answer that if you don't want to!" Her face was more like a tomato.
"I can't say I do, dearie. People fear me. I quite enjoy that." He dried what she handed him.
"But isn't that lonely?" She seemed to have a contemplating face. She seemed in pain at the thought.
"No one has ever bothered to ask me that, you know? I suppose so. But what friends I do have I treasure." He seemed somber with a strained smile on his face.
"Friends? Don't you mean puppets?" Selena slapped her hand over her mouth. "Dammit! I'm sorry! I don't know why, but today my filter isn't working!"
Alastor let out a light chuckle, "Having someone be this honest with me is quite refreshing. But aren't you scared I'd eat you? Most people are." He seemed to hum in amusement. "I suppose you're right though."
"Fair enough. Well, Al, consider me your first friend. I mean you prank me. Might as well. Plus you wouldn't eat me. Charlie would be sad, and Lucifer would make your unlife a worse hell than it is. Guess that's in my favor." She gave a genuine smile. It seemed to brighten the room.
"Well, dearie, looks like we're done. I have errands to run." Alastor snapped and vanished.
