As Emilio stood accepting congratulations, he glanced up to see Hermione smiling and nodding her head in agreement. The warmth Emilio felt from that one glance warmed him from head to toe.

As she stood there with Scorp's little hands wrapped around her leg, Xavier sidled up almost stepping over Scorp.

"You look lovely today."

"Thank you," replied Hermione a bit shortly.

Xavier still tried to keep Hermione's attention on him. "Milan seems to be losing their two best Ministers."

"It would seem so Xavier. If you'll excuse us, I need to take Scorp to potty."

Oblivious to Hermione's mood or mindset, Xavier turned to watch her walk down the hall. As he watched Hermione, Carmela and Hannah were watching him. Matt's radar had gone up as well. Something in Xavier's mannerisms toward Hermione made him uncomfortable.

They all liked and respected Xavier. However, none could see Hermione ever accepting the attentions of a wizard who thought so little of her only child, especially Matt.

As they filed into the dining room, Matt was the only person to put much store in Xavier's obvious interest in Hermione. There was just no way he was going to stand by and let yet another interloper interfere between Hermione and Emilio. Emilio had to make some kind of move, even if it was only a tiny one.

An extraneous, silly thought passed through Matt's head as he took his seat. Perhaps I really should trip Hermione.

A Tale Of Two Wizards Full Circle: Chapter 30

Carmela hadn't assigned seats so Matt had slipped into the open seat on the left of Hermione while Harry had settled himself to the right of Scorp. Xavier found himself seated between the pregnant Seana and Elsa. Even though he was satisfied with the seating, Matt didn't have to step out of line at all because Scorp did it for him.

"Look Meelio. Your little man is eating his food. I'm a good boy."

Scorp's remarks brought smiles to most of the adult faces with Carmela offering a sweet response. "That's Mela's good boy. Eating all your food will help you grow up big and strong just like Minister Lozier."

"Yes Mela. I grow up big and strong like Meelio and Fausto and Uncle Sal and Uncle Matt and Uncle Gas….."

Hermione reached out to touch Scorp's arm. "That's enough Scorp. We know that all your uncles are big and strong."

"Some bigger and stronger than others." Joked Harry, which earned him a nice pinch on the thigh from Hannah.

Matt found this the perfect opportunity to offer his own remarks. "You sound a bit jealous Harry. Perhaps if you eat more of the sprouts, you'll get big and strong as well."

Fausto let out a loud chuckle. "If Harry eats any more of the sprouts, Hannah will have to roll him away from the table." Facing Emilio, Fausto complimented him on his cooking skills. "Roasted sprouts with bacon, sprouts in lemony sauce. Amazing."

Emilio felt the blush creep across his cheeks as he offered a cheeky response. "I'm a one dish Minister, but I'm working on my menu."

Hermione smiled at Emilio's remark as she met his eyes across the table. "Please do not expand your menu too much Minister. What will you do with a number of rotund witches in your life?"

"I'm sure our family will love us rotund or not. Right Fausto?" Questioned Carmela before anyone could get in a reply.

"Of course love. I'll love my girls no matter what their size." Fausto replied, raising his eyebrows in a comical gesture.

"No more sprouts for you Elsa," offered Sal. "As much as I'd love a rotund Mum and rotund sisters, I'd rather my witch stay fit and trim."

Elsa didn't reply, but a small frown appeared on her face.

"Fit and trim," laughed Scorp as if he knew what Sal was talking about.

Scorp's response caused laughter around the whole of the table as Emilio commented he would only expand his menu to include fiocchi d'avena. Then it was his comment that caused laughter around the table.

"Very good," laughed Elsa along with the others. "I wasn't looking forward to being tossed aside over a few pounds. I'll even pass on the lovely Banoffee Pies."

Sal wasn't amused.

The rest of the meal had been congenial as well as boisterous. After the dinner, Carmela sent everyone on their way as she cleared away. Everyone scattered to the living and den except for Hannah and Hermione who helped with the clean up.

"I think we should enlist someone to assist with your Living Portrait project," suggested Carmela out of the blue.

"Yes. This would be the perfect time," added Hannah. "Carmela told me she has already asked Emilio. I think we should ask if he's found a photographer."

Hermione let out a sigh. "Will you two please stop with the Emilio nonsense. Please."

"What nonsense?" Hannah asked innocently. "If Emilio can help, I say let him help."

"As do I," seconded Carmela.

"I don't mean to eavesdrop, but Scorp was taking me to see his new books when I heard my name. How can I help?"

"Meelio helps me and you mum. Right Meelio?"

"Well, let's first see what these lovely ladies need Scorp."

Carmela spoke before Hermione could turn the Minister away. "Hermione, Hannah and I were wondering if you've made any progress with finding a photographer." From there, Carmela and Hannah explained Hermione's project.

While Carmela and Hannah explained things to Emilio, Hermione picked Scorp up mumbling that he should have an after dinner poop. Once Hermione and Scorp left the room, a surprised Emilio explained how he hadn't pressed too hard because Carmela hadn't stipulated the information was for Hermione, but had made it quite clear she wasn't in any rush for the information.

A flustered Carmela acknowledged her part. "Let me set the record straight. I did say I wasn't in any rush for the information, and you're quite correct that I didn't mention Hermione. However, my lovely daughter has seen fit to move her project along rather rapidly. Can you help us? Hermione has everything set up in Fausto's study. Will you allow us to familiarize you with the plan?"

Emilio was embarrassed. He really didn't have any concrete information to offer. However, this was for Hermione. He'd help as best he could. "I expect to have a few prospects by Monday morning, so let's have a look at the plan."

/*/

While Emilio was having his private conversation with Carmela and Hannah, Matt had watched as Xavier separated from the groups to follow Hermione and Scorp down the hall. Thinking quickly, Matt tried to form a reason why he'd be at that end of the house when he realized he was an invited guest. Neither Carmela nor Fausto had mentioned that the back end of the house was off limits.

Matt reached the door in time to hear Hermione ask Xavier to back up a bit. Entering the room as though he hadn't heard Hermione's remark, Matt jostled past Xavier to pick up Scorp. "The uncles are missing their boy Scorp, and mum is needed in the kitchen."

A grateful Hermione pushed past Xavier as Matt and Scorp followed in her wake. When they reached the living room, Hermione thanked Matt in a soft voice mentioning that Xavier kept getting too close for her comfort.

"I noticed. I came to your rescue hoping I wasn't interfering."

Hermione patted Matt on the arm. "You definitely weren't interfering. You can sit Scorp with Fausto or Harry. There's a conversation in the kitchen I need to rejoin. Thank you."

"My pleasure Hermione. Come on little man. Let's go see what Uncle Harry is up to."

"Yay. I love Uncle Harry," replied Scorp as he patted Matt on both cheeks.

/*/

Hermione entered the kitchen to find it empty. At that moment, Hannah poked her head into the kitchen to tell Hermione they were in the study. Following Hannah, Hermione walked in to find Emilio with the contents of her plan strewn in front of him.

"I know you are brilliant Hermione, but this is just incredible. Have you done a market survey? Have you begun to build a possible client list? Do you intend to include anyone other than children?"

Hermione grinned. "Easy with the fawning Minister, or Mum and Hannah will accuse you of winding me up."

"Mum and Hannah would be wrong." He bantered back, keeping his eyes on the documents in front of him. "Winding you up is the last thing I'd do."

The room went so quiet all that could be heard was breathing.

When Emilio realized his words might have been taken out of context, he immediately rephrased. "What I meant was, I'd probably have to use my wand to get the better of you."

All three witches smiled at Emilio's discomfort.

"I'm thinking now is a good time to remain silent Minister," joked Carmela.

"If only I could." Emilio quipped before bringing the conversation back to the project. "Now that I understand what the photographer is for, I'll be sure to get back to you on Monday. Matt and Gas will probably have me tied up all day, but I can have an assistant drop the information by your home."

Carmela couldn't stop herself. "We'd like to keep this among the few of us Minister. It would probably be better if you brought the information yourself."

Hermione kept her composure, but felt the blush creep up her neck as she responded to Carmela's comment. "Please mum. Don't let Gas or Matt hear you say that. Emilio is just starting at MCC. As he said, he'll probably be tied up until all hours. His assistant will do just fine. I'm quite capable of researching credentials on my own."

Emilio took it all in stride. "So it's settled then. If I'm unable to get free before 8:00 pm, I'll have either an assistant or a messenger drop off the list. Although, my source is here in Italy, so the information might be in my hand before I have to make my appearance at MCC. If that's the case, I'll drop the information off by mid-day. Either way, I'll ring you Hermione to let you know what's what."

"You are too kind Mr. Lozier. If you do come through, perhaps I'll have a little surprise for you."

"A surprise? I love surprises."

Hermione laughed out loud. "No you don't. If I remember correctly, you hate surprises."

Emilio chuckled as he gave a quick flick of his wand to set the documents into a neat pile. "Kudos to the lovely witch with the sharp memory. However, it's been years. I now find a surprise every now and again doesn't hurt…"

Emilio was about to say more, but just then the study door opened and Xavier poked his head in. "There you are. Not intruding am I? I thought the ladies had left the premises. Good to know I was wrong."

"May I help you with something Xavier?" Asked Carmela.

"I was hoping to have a word with Hermione."

As much as he didn't want to leave the study, Emilio rose from the chair to leave Xavier to his conversation. Before he made it to the door, Hermione thanked him for his advice. With a quick bow, Emilio told her it was his pleasure.

/*/

Neither Hannah nor Carmela was as accommodating as Emilio. They remained in the study pretending to glance over the documents.

"How can I help you Xavier?"

With a quick glance at Carmela, Xavier stated his purpose. "I was thinking of taking a few days off. Knowing you must be at loose ends, I had hopes of visiting London so you could show me some sights and have a coffee."

Hannah rolled her eyes at Carmela over Xavier's paper thin excuse, but her best friend could hold her own.

"How nice of you to offer Xavier. I'm just wondering where you got the idea I was at loose ends. If nothing else, I do have a son who keeps me quite busy. In addition, Carmela, Hannah and I are researching the possibility of setting up a new business, so there isn't any need for you to worry about me being at loose ends."

Xavier was a bit taken aback. "My apologies if I spoke out of turn. My only thought was…. Well, no matter the thought. It seems it hasn't been well received. However, if you ever find yourself wanting a bit of company, I'm your wizard. You have my mobile number. Please feel free to use it." Turning to Carmela, Xavier made a little bow. "I'll just go say my goodnight and be on my way. Thank you for a fantastic meal as well as some fantastic company."

When the door closed behind Xavier, Carmela started to comment. "Well that was ….."

"Expected," laughed Hannah, cutting across Carmela. "I see what you mean about him being dismissive of Scorp. Knowing you might be at loose ends. As if." She added in a huff.

Hermione let out a loud chuckle. "The looks on your faces. They are priceless. Mr. Cross seems to have gotten on the wrong side of my mum and my sister. I have my reasons, but could either of you explain why Xavier is suddenly on your shite list?"

Carmela hastily explained that Xavier was not on any shite list. She just didn't like him being dismissive of her Scorpius.

"Same here," offered Hannah. "Xavier is fine as long as he keeps his place. However, with that said, I'll just remind…."

This time it was Matt who stuck his head through the door. "Hello ladies. Emilio and I are leaving. I want to thank you all for a delicious dinner, and a lovely time."

Emilio who was standing behind Matt offered his sentiments as well.

Carmela thanked both men for coming adding additional thanks to Emilio for always stepping up. Her comment caught Matt off guard, but he managed to hide his surprise. He would definitely be prying information out of his cousin this night.

Hermione and Hannah simultaneously thanked Emilio as well with Hermione mentioning she would see him sometime on Monday.

Matt was now beside himself with curiosity. What had gone on and when?

/*/

"Let's get out there," suggested Carmela. I need to say goodnight to everyone."

Carmela was right. The living room was swarming with people as they got ready to take their leave. Everyone was saying their goodnights. Suddenly, Carmela was inundated with hugs.

"See you mum. Thank you for dinner. Seth and I will be in and out of SSE, so we'll stop by the office. There are a few things we'd like to discuss with you. Goodnight papa."

"Thank you for having me Mrs. Maida. I had a lovely time." Complimented Elsa. "I hope I'm not rotund by the next time I see you. Goodnight Mr. Maida."

Carmela gave a shaky laugh as she hugged Elsa noticing the small frown on Sal's face. Sal wasn't all that keen on being ridiculed, especially by his own witch.

"Thanks for everything mum. Seana and I are leaving now as well." Gas said, giving Carmela a tight hug then stepping back so Seana could hug her as well. "Goodnight Hermione. Goodnight Hannah. Goodnight papa."

Harry was bringing up the rear with Scorp close on his heels. "If you'd like Hermione, Hannah and I will wait while you get yourself and Scorp sorted. We can all go back together."

"Thanks Harry. And thank you for keeping our boy awake, otherwise he'd be up all night when he got home. Give me fifteen minutes and I'll have us all packed up. Mum, I'll be taking two slices of the Banoffee Pie, Hannah didn't make, with me."

Everyone laughed, including Hannah.

Twenty minutes later, Hermione was ready and suggested Harry call Matt to see if they could take the short way home through his floo.

Matt was fine with them using the floo. He and Emilio were going over business.

Hermione, Hannah and Harry said their goodnights with Scorpius leaving a sloppy kiss on both Carmela and Fausto.

"Love you both," shouted Hermione before stepping into the floo.

"Love you both," shouted Scorp from Harry's arms, mimicking his mother.

"Love you all," answered Carmela as she watched one after the other disappear into the floo. Turning to Fausto, Carmela asked if he wanted to have a lie down after she took a shower.

"I'd love a lie down." Fausto answered saucily. "Perhaps you'll allow me to wash your back and maybe a bit of your front."

Carmela let out a wicked laugh as she told Fausto to turn off the television and follow her.

And he had.

/*/

When Hermione, Hannah, Harry and Scorp stepped out of the floo, Emilio and Matt were down to their shirtsleeves immersed in the paperwork before them. Both wizards stood to acknowledge the two witches.

"Dark and blonde. Two handsome ends of the spectrum," whispered Hannah. Hermione who didn't want to make a production of Hannah's remark, simply gave her friend a slight nudge.

"We're not here to keep you. Just passing through," offered Hermione in the way of an apology. "Thank you for the courtesy."

"Thanks mate," added Harry, reaching out to shake hands. "I'll see you both around London."

Scorpius who was wriggling around in Harry's arms asked Emilio if he would come read him a story, but Hermione quickly stepped in. "Scorpius Malfoy. You've been on Emilio's heels since he walked through Mela's door. Give the wizard a rest. Crissy or Dusty can read to you. We should get going."

"Have a rest Meelio. Bye."

"Goodnight little man. Goodnight all."

/*/

After locking the floo, Matt began to tease Emilio. "Is read him a story a euphemism for spend the night?"

"Don't be an arse Matt. Scorp is just missing a male figure in his life."

"Really? Why you? Why not some other wizard? Face it cousin. Scorpius Malfoy has taken a liking to you. Anyway, he'll see you tomorrow. Right? While we're on this subject, just why are you seeing Hermione tomorrow? What did I miss?"

Emilio sighed as he picked up his half empty glass of brandy. "I've been recruited to help Hermione, Hannah and Carmela with a very interesting project."

"Recruited is it? I'm guessing you are speaking of the living portrait project. I heard a bit about it from Louis. You do understand you will be tied up until late tomorrow. In fact, there will be late nights the entire week."

"Don't worry. It has all been sorted. If I can't get away, I intend to have a messenger drop off the information. There is also the possibility I'll have the required information before I leave the Ministry tomorrow. You do remember I have to turn in my resignation? If so, I plan to deliver it to Hermione before I appear at MCC."

"Thought it all out have you? Let me say this. Xavier Cross is trying to push up on Hermione."

Emilio looked disappointed, but did nothing more than let out a sigh.

"Don't worry," continued Matt. "I don't know what Xavier has done, but Hermione is having none of it. All that to say, now is the time for you to make some move. I mean a move other than tripping Hermione and letting her fall on your needy dick."

"Enough Matt." Emilio replied in a weary voice. "I will follow Hermione's lead, which is the most I can do. And just to satisfy your bloody, unrelenting curiosity, I'll tell you another thing. Hermione was so pleased with my assistance, she promised to have some sort of surprise for me."

Matt was amazed. "She's going to have a surprise for you? What kind of surprise?"

"Have no idea," responded Emilio after letting out a soft chuckle. "She didn't say. Suffice it to say, it's not what you are thinking."

Matt poured them both another drink. "You have no idea what I'm thinking surprise boy. Although I imagine it will be given with knickers and boxers on."

Emilio guffawed. "You are being a pig. Let's just get back to this documentation."

"Really? I'm being a pig? Tell me truthfully where your mind went when Hermione uttered the word surprise."

"I won't lie Matt. A small part of me was hoping the surprise is something sexual, but I know better. Besides, if I'm ever lucky enough to have Hermione make sexual overtures to me, it won't be in Draco Malfoy's bed, and Scorpius will not be in the next room."

"Understood." Matt remarked, clapping his cousin on the back. "Let's do this. Even if your connections come through early, hold onto the information. As long as you are there for our news interview, I think Gas and I can allow you a little leeway. We'll call your end of day tomorrow for 5:30 or so. Plenty of time for you to drop off your information and get your surprise. While I'm thinking about it. You'll need your privacy. Why don't you hire rooms at the hotel then get in touch with Theo? He'll help you find something permanent and suitable to the new Chief Operating Officer of MCC. Don't even consider a flat. This is the big time. Buy a home. Please make your appointments with Theo for the weekend. I can't be seen as favoring my best cousin with extra time off, especially with our big meeting coming up on Wednesday. We can also ask Gas or Harry. They might know of something. In fact, they may know of something for me as well. If all else fails, MCC does have homes set aside for newly installed Officers who haven't found a home of their own."

"Thanks cousin. I appreciate the leeway and the information."

"No need to thank me Emilio. I just hope it all works out, especially the surprise."

"Whatever it is, it will be welcome," murmured Emilio before reciting from memory facts straight from the MCC manual."

"You, Gas and I are going to be beasts. Now give me some facts about our largest enterprise."

And Emilio had. Two hours later, they called it a night.

"We'll see you tomorrow cousin. Don't forget. We'll need you there before 1:00. Have a good night."

"Goodnight Matt. I'll see you before 1:00."

/*/

When the small group stepped into Malfoy Estate, Hannah told Harry he could go on ahead and she would be there shortly. "I'm going to help Hermione put Scorp down for the night."

"Alright then. I'll see you when you get home. Goodnight Scorp. Goodnight Hermione.

Don't be too long love. Your husband needs to be tucked in as well."

"You don't have to stay Hannah. Scorp is tired. He'll go down pretty easily."

Hannah shushed Hermione as she followed her up the stairs. "I know that. It's just that my curiosity has gotten the best of me. What surprise do you have for that gorgeous hunk of wizard? You can tell me. I'm your sister after all. I won't tell a soul. Would I be embarrassed if I walked in on you giving it to him?"

Hermione broke out in giggles. "You filthy witch. Get your mind out of the gutter. None of us would be embarrassed. The surprise is actually an inside joke. Now if you'll get off my heels, I'll put my son to bed."

"The plot thickens. An inside joke is it? Does it….?"

"Go home Hannah. Harry is waiting. Probably with a very stiff man part. I'll explain it all to you after I see Emilio."

"Oh Merlin!" Hannah cried out, clutching her chest dramatically. "I'll definitely stop by before I go to work."

Hermione giggled again as she placed their family photograph in Scorp's hand. "Say goodnight to your Auntie Hannah Scorp."

"Good night Auntie Hannah." Scorp replied before turning on his side.

"Since you aren't willing to share with your sister, your sister has decided to take her tired arse home. Love you. See you tomorrow. Goodnight."

"Goodnight love."

/*/

After she unpacked, Hermione ran a warm shower. This night, instead of thinking how much she missed Draco's embrace, Hermione thought about getting out of the house early so she could pick up Emilio's surprise. She laughed at the fact Hannah would be so disappointed to find out her surprise only consisted of a case of Guinness Beer. After the shower, Hermione slipped into a night shirt that barely covered her bum and fell asleep before she could finish the thought of how surprised the Minister would be.

/**/

By Monday morning, Kim was over her little snit and realized her petty arse had thrown away not only her wedding rings, but possibly her marriage as well. However, she wasn't a stupid witch, and wouldn't give any of those MCC bints a chance to take her place. Knowing Matt was in London, Kim decided she would go pick up her rings from wherever they had landed. She had no intention of stepping out of her marriage so easily.

If she was expecting to walk in and walk out with the rings, Kim was sadly mistaken. In fact, she wasn't able to enter at all. She had first tried to floo in from her office, with no luck. Not comprehending, Kim had then tried to Apparate in and still had been unable to get into the house. A bit angry and quite a bit frightened, Kim realized Matt had either changed or deleted her authorities. She had been locked out of her own home. Obviously Matt was going along with her wishes. She was now free to push up on any wizard who caught her fancy.

/*/

Back at her own offices, Kim closed her office door and had a minor meltdown. There wasn't any reason for Matt to be this vindictive and petty. She had acted and spoken in anger. She hadn't meant any of it. Matt knew that. In her state, there was no way she could concentrate on clients. She needed to speak to Matt and get this cock up straightened out. The best thing for her to do was get to London and wait for Matt at the hotel. Which is what she did.

/*/

Emilio was quite busy tying up his loose ends. He had spoken to the HOMI earlier to tender his resignation. The HOMI had wished Emilio well and shaken his hand. And that had been that.

Wallace had come through for Emilio. By 9:30, he had laid the basic information of four prospects on Emilio's desk. Emilio thanked Wallace for his diligence then had an extended conversation explaining that he would be more out than in the office over the week. After that, he would probably spend mornings in London and afternoons in Milan, but would adjust his schedule as needed.

"Understood Minister. I know the next few weeks will be busy ones for you. I'll definitely step up when and where I can."

"Good man. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you will be next to hold the Minister of Acquisitions position. I'll do all I can to make it so."

"Thank you for your confidence and support Minister. It is very much appreciated. I'll get back to work now as there are a few things which will need to be moved around or cancelled entirely. I hope the prospects work out for you."

"Thank you Wallace. I have a few minutes. I'm going to look over the information before I leave for the afternoon. Because I don't want you to overwork yourself, I have assigned a Junior to assist you. He will be set up in the small office down the hall. Use him. One more thing. Please ring Minister Wooley and ask him to come to my office."

"Thank you for the Junior. I hope he can remember to charge a mobile." Wallace added with a grin. "I'll call Minister Wooley immediately."

/*/

Emilio had reviewed the information regarding the London photographers. He had also had a conversation with James during which he explained losing the Head of Case Management slot but gaining a position with Matt at MCC. James had been amazed and wished Emilio well.

"Once I'm situated, I'll expect you to come to London to be entertained by the CEO, COO and CFO of MCC."

James had laughed. "Wild horses couldn't keep me away. Perhaps some lovely, English lass will fall for me and never want me to leave."

Emilio grinned at his former assistant. "Stranger things have happened James. You'll simply have to come to London to find out. Have a good day. I'll probably speak to you sometime during the week."

"Okay Emilio. Take care. Speak to you soon."

Emilio checked his Wonder Wizard Watch to find it was already 11:40. He was due at MCC by 1:00. He planned to arrive early as there were papers which needed to be signed. After letting Wallace know he was leaving, Emilio put all the photographer information in his case, grabbed his wand and flooed through to Matt's house where he would set the floo directly to MCC.

When he stepped out of the floo, Emilio took a deep breath before heading into the next phase of his life.

/*/

Matt stood to shake Emilio's hand. "Welcome cousin. Thank you for arriving early. We'll get you signed on then we can go from there. We'll be meeting in my private conference room. Third levels will attend the interview as well. These are the witches and wizards who will have our backs. We need to include them."

Emilio cleared his throat. "Before we get down to our business, I need to make a call."

"Fine Mr. COO. Let me show you to your own office so you may have a bit of privacy. Come back to my office when you're finished."

"Will do. Back in a moment."

/*/

As soon as the door closed behind Matt, Emilio dialed Hermione.

One ring. Two rings. Three rings. Emilio was ready to disconnect when a breathless sounding Hermione answered.

Hello Emilio.

Hello Hermione. You sound winded. Have I caught you at a bad time?

Haha. I am a bit winded. Scorp and I are just getting home. We were out running errands. I imagine you're calling to let me know that those gits Matt and Gas are not letting you off until the wee hours of the morning.

Emilio grinned at the mobile.

To the contrary. I will ending my day between 5:30 and 6:00. Therefore, I will be able to bring the information myself. Perhaps, we can look it over to find you the best photographer in London.

You are the best Mr. Lozier. In light of the fact you'll be straight out today and probably won't sit still long enough to have a decent lunch, I'll make you dinner. That way, Scorp will be able to show off his eating skills yet again.

This time, Emilio chuckled out loud.

He does like to showcase his talents, doesn't he? I just called to inform you of my itinerary. I have to get back before Matt and Gas begin to hammer on my door. I'll see you and Scorp by 6:00, if not before. Until then.

Until then Mr. Lozier.

Emilio sat there looking at his mobile for several more seconds thinking how Hermione had enchanted him. No matter what he had said to Matt, if the surprise was sexual, he wouldn't turn it down.

/*/

Matt and Gas were waiting in Matt's office when Emilio returned.

"Sorry gents. Important phone call."

I imagine it was, Matt thought to himself. "No problem. Let's get to it. There is loads of documentation to be read and signed, after which, Gas and I will introduce you to our third levels."

"Ready when you are," replied Emilio. "I'll do this very quickly as I'll need time to change into my new suit per requirements."

Both Gas and Matt smiled.

"Really Emilio? Making jokes then? You'll be sacked before you're formally hired."

The documents were signed and stamped with the MCC seal in ten minutes or less.

"Welcome to MCC. Your journey has begun."

Both Gas and Matt shook Emilio's hand before heading off to meet who Matt had dubbed The Fantastic Four. He wanted all his team to feel comfortable with themselves before they stepped in front of the cameras.

The small meet and greet served its purpose because the interviews and photo session went off flawlessly. The Beast Boys and The Fantastic Four had arrived. The head journalist and head photographer assured Matt he would have copies in hand before 6:00 pm in case there was something he'd like to see changed. If everything had gone off as well as he thought it had, Matt didn't foresee the need to make any changes.

Shortly after the interviews, The Beast Boys and The Fantastic Four sat down to discuss visions and strategies. By the end of the conversation, everyone was on the same page. They were determined to make MCC bigger and more powerful than it had ever been.

The meeting broke up at 5:40 when copies of the articles arrived. The group went over the articles with a fine toothed comb leaving nothing to chance. Everything was on point. The cover came out even better than Matt had hoped. Tuesday would be an exciting day for the company and for The Beast Boys.

/*/

Everything was lovely, but Emilio wanted to get going. Not wanting it to seem he was being favored over others, Emilio waited until he was alone with Matt to discreetly point at his Wonder Wizard Watch. Matt nodded and Emilio went to his office to collect the information he had for Hermione. Ten minutes later, he was outside the doors of Malfoy Estate ringing the bell.

/*/

In the middle of searing the lamb chops, Hermione sent Dusty to open the door. "If it's Mr. Emilio, please see him through to the living room. I'll be there in a second."

Knowing things, but being an elf that kept her mistress' private business private, Dusty greeted Emilio as she would any other visitor. "Welcome to Malfoy Estate Mr. Meelio sir. Ise Dusty. Mrs. Hermione will be with you in a few seconds. Please follow me."

Emilio followed Dusty and took a seat on the couch. While he had the chance, Emilio took a look around. It was a lovely home, but a little too Malfoy for his taste.

"Hello there Mr. COO. You look lost in thought Emilio. Just what is it deep thinkers think about?" Hermione asked with a soft chuckle. "I imagine your head must be spinning with all the new business being forced into it."

Hermione had startled Emilio whose thoughts were where they shouldn't be. Quickly rising from his chair to acknowledge Hermione's presence, Emilio greeted his hostess then held up his case. "Hello Hermione. I have information which may or may not meet your criteria."

"My criteria? Just what would that be?"

"Before I was informed the information was for your project, my instructions were to find a young, pliable photographer. I don't know if any on the sheets in my case will fit the bill."

Hermione glanced at Emilio and held his gaze. "I did say something along those lines, although my words may have been taken out of context. I simply mentioned I would like a brilliant, young photographer, just starting out and willing to grow along with my project. Nothing spurious."

"The word spurious never crossed my mind," replied Emilio with a bright smile. "I fully understood the intent. I was simply having my little joke."

"Thank Merlin." Hermione replied, balling up a fist and shaking it in Emilio's direction. "I wouldn't want my champion thinking badly of me."

"I could never think badly of you. I am and always will be your champion." Quickly changing the subject, Emilio asked about Scorpius, dinner and his surprise, in that order.

"I was giving you a chance to breathe. You do realize that as soon as Scorp has you in his sights, he'll be on your heels. As for dinner, it is ready. I'll just call for your little shadow and we can eat. You'll receive your surprise after dinner. Just to warn you, your surprise was not very expensive. Excuse me."

A short time later, Hermione was back with an excited Scorp.

"Hi Meelio. It's really Meelio mum. It is." Scorp walked over to stand in front of Emilio. "Are you going to eat dinner with me? I need you to watch me eat my carrots and beans. Can Meelio eat dinner with us? I think he had a rest."

Both Emilio and Hermione smiled at Scorp.

"Hello Scorpius. Your mum and I have business, but she has invited me to dinner as well, so I'll be keeping a close eye on what is left on your plate."

"I'll eat it all. I'm growing so fast. Come on then. Scorp is hungry."

Scorp was good as his word. He ate everything on his plate, including one green bean that had fallen off his plate. After dinner, Hermione allowed Scorp time in the living room with her and Emilio before excusing herself to get him ready for bed. "Feel free to speak to Louis if you like. He hasn't had a visitor in a while. I'm sure he'll welcome the company.

"Goodnight Meelio." Scorp muttered sullenly. "Next time, come to see me, not mum."

Hermione cautioned her son about bad behavior as she hurried him up the stairs.

By the time Hermione came back downstairs, Emilio had been in to speak with Louis and was back in the living room with the sheets spread out in front of him.

"I apologize for taking so long. Scorp was overexcited and wouldn't settle down."

"No problem. I imagine little wizards can be a handful at times."

"Right you are Mr. Lozier. Before we get started, let me show you the surprise."

Hermione went to the kitchen and came back with the case of Guinness floating behind her.

Emilio stood to reach for the muggle beer. "Fantastic surprise. I haven't been in London long enough to stock up on my favorite beer. In fact, I don't have a home to which I can bring the stock, but I will gladly consume a few while I'm here. Thank you for remembering."

"Of course I remember. It was the thing that made you happiest."

Without thought, Emilio replied that she had been the thing that had made him happiest.

Hermione knew this, but was extremely surprised he would say it out loud. Gently, she touched Emilio on the arm. "Why don't we leave the photographer search for another night? Tonight we should talk."

Emilio sighed very softly. He had overstepped his bounds and was about to receive a telling off. One which would dash any hope he had of ever being with Hermione again. "Alright Hermione. We can do that. I apologize if my words have upset you."

It took Hermione a moment to sort her thoughts. "No apology necessary Emilio. You haven't upset me. I'm fine. It is I who owes you an apology. There were things said and done that should have been done differently. You were my wizard. We should have had a discussion. I'm not sure where the discussion would have led, or if it would have changed anything, but I should have tried. I cannot change the past, nor will I deny I had an amazing marriage, however…."

Emilio stood. "I don't need to hear this Hermione. Being pushed out of your life once was enough. I can't bear to hear it a second time. I'll leave the information. It's probably better if you sort it out with Carmela and Hannah."

"Please sit back down Emilio. I need to get this all out."

Emilio perched himself on the edge of a chair.

"…..However, I recognize there is something between us. You are always willing to help, not just me, but anyone who asks. You treat Scorp as if he were your own. Your kindness and thoughtfulness don't go unnoticed. You are a champion for me, but you have champions of your own. Carmela, Hannah and Louis speak quite highly of you. I was reluctant to listen because I've met Marissa. I thought you had finally found your witch, so you couldn't be looking at me in a certain way. Carmela corrected me this past Saturday. Then Sunday evening as I laid in my bed, instead of thinking of Draco's embrace, I was thinking how I had to get up early to get your Guinness."

Emilio slid back in the chair. Was the witch of his dreams saying what he thought she was saying?

"I know my husband hasn't been gone long, but suddenly, I'm in agreement with the those who insist I look forward not back."

Emilio closed his eyes thinking, this is where I should speak. This is where I should say, I fell in love with Hermione Granger the Lobbyist and never fell out of love.

"Have I shocked you silent Emilio?" Asked Hermione. "If I've missed the mark, tell me."

Emilio finally found his voice. "You have neither shocked me silent nor missed the mark. It took me a long time to accept you had married and were out of my life. Don't get me wrong. I worshipped you from afar, but always wished you well. Then Draco died and all the old feelings resurfaced. If you are sitting across from me telling me there might be a chance for us, I am telling you I'll accept any terms you set to make it so."

Hermione took a deep breath which she let out ever so slowly. "So it's out there then. I acknowledge my interest in you, and you have acknowledged your interest in me. Shall we begin as friends with expectations?"

"We are already friends Hermione. I look forward to discussing expectations."
