You guys are the best and I'm sorry for posting late today!
Selena had spent the next week preparing the stage for a band and a singer. She had used her magic to form a door that wasn't connected to a hotel. She also placed permanent seals around the ballroom to keep the noise down. She had moved Husk's bar to a middle wall near the hotel's entry point to the ballroom. She knew they would have to barricade it during shows.
The day after she sang him to sleep, Alastor had seemed so happy and calm. She had taken up Alastor's offer to see other musicians he knew. Everyone wondered what the hell was wrong with him. He took her to see Mimzy, apparently an old friend of his. She could sing quite well Selena had thought. Another demon that he introduced her to was a dancer, singer combo. He was named Venom or something like that. The man was a snake demon. Alastor said he could tap dance Fred Astaire out of any room. It made her giggle a bit. From there, she went and visited a few dj's to see if they were interested in performing there. She visited a couple of magic shows and comedians to change up the scene. Alastor though had gotten bored and insisted they head back to the hotel.
Since their expedition, Selena worked on lighting and mic tests and sound tests. She had been so preoccupied with the club that she didn't help Niffty or Alastor during that period. She finally felt content enough with the club that she was ready to be done with it. They had three days until her debut. Any mention of it had Alastor and Angel buzzing with excitement. Something that they bonded over even if just a little. She, on the other hand, was extremely nervous. She hadn't sung in front of a large crowd before so she made sure that the lights were bright enough that she couldn't see the crowd. She left the ballroom through the conjoining door to the hotel and plopped down on the lobby couch.
She gave a tired sigh and wore a frown on her face. "Smile, my dear! You're never fully dressed without one!" Alastor came up behind her.
"What are you doing, Al?" She looked around the room. "You scared me!"
Alastor began laughing. "Well, my dear, you've been wearing a frown for a week! Now that you've decided to take a break I decided to tell you!" He gave her a big dopey grin. "Well, I got the polls in! Do you wanna see?" He was holding a piece of paper just out of her reach if she stood on the couch.
"Please, Al! I've gotta prepare a song line up!" He kept teasing her and holding it out of reach. Eventually, the fox gave up and plopped back down on the couch. Lying there, staring at him, and swishing her tail on the floor. "I'm almost too tired for your games. Al. Just the other day, I got a summoning from Lucifer!" She had moved her forearm to cover her eyes. "Guess what he wanted?" She peeked behind her arm. Her eyes gave an iridescent glow. He motioned for her to continue. "He wanted to know how Charlie is doing? Like the bastard can't even come here to find out for himself! I told him to get off his apple-loving ass and come see her. He then threw a stapler at me." She groaned in frustration. Alastor just stood there, with his arm in the air, the paper in hand, grin on his face, listening. "I mean I know that I may have put too much on my plate, but Luci has got to start being a dad again. Or I'mma kick his white-wearing ass." She sighed and sat up. "Thanks for listening. I'm sorry for venting at you though."
"No troubles, my dear! A heavy heart makes it harder to smile! If listening will make you fully dressed, then so be it!" He played a laugh track. She just rolled her eyes at him. He gave her the poll results and sat next to her. He sat there staring at her while she eagerly opened the paper he folded.
"Fuck! Number one is pop night?" She gave a groan. "I love the genre, don't get me wrong, but I was hoping for the older crowd to win this one." She started giggling. "Thanks, Al. I'll get started on it."
"There's a smile! Even a small one is better than none!" He watched her get up. She looked at him with one of the brightest, biggest smiles he had ever seen. He felt something rise in him, but he was so unsure of the emotion. He walked over to Husker. "Husker, my good fellow, have you ever seen a more dazzling smile?"
"What?" Husk was daydreaming over a bottle when Alastor had walked over.
"You weren't paying attention?!" Alastor seemed somewhat disappointed and, for some reason, gleeful his friend hadn't seen it. "Selena doesn't smile that big at Charlie! How could you miss it?"
"Why the fuck would I care?" He grumbled and passed out on the counter.
