Author's Note: I wrote this, like... months ago. I've been hesitant to post this up here, telling myself that it's too short, but finally I've said screw it, so here you go. My first Kyou Kara Maou fic EVAR. XD (I plan to write more after finals are finished, though!)

Spoilers for episode 25-ish, I guess.

Disclaimer: Kyou Kara Maou! ≠ mine.

Growth

Yuuri didn't notice it until Greta was nearing her sixteenth birthday, and when he did, he wondered how he could have missed it.

His daughter was growing up. She was almost as tall as Wolfram already. Before his eyes, Greta was becoming a real young woman.

In contrast, the royal couple had barely aged at all. Yuuri found something utterly shocking in realizing that he looked about the same age as his own daughter.

Upon confiding this in him, Wolfram seemed surprisingly unperturbed. "Of course Greta's growing up," he said, not looking up from his book. "She's a human. She doesn't age the same as we mazoku."

"I hadn't ever really thought about that..." Yuuri mused.

Wolfram sniffed derisively. "Wimp."

"Don't call me a wimp!" the Maou retorted. "I'm just worried, that, well... When Greta's old and gray, you and I will still be strapping young men, and that's just... wrong!"

"Look." Wolfram snapped his book shut and locked eyes with his husband. "It doesn't matter what Greta looks like. She's still our daughter, and always will be. I'd expect you to understand that better than anyone else."

Yuuri was still apprehensive. "But we'll almost certainly outlive her..."

"Probably," Wolfram agreed. "That only means that we'll be with her for her entire life. If anything, we should be grateful that we'll never have to leave Greta fatherless. So stop worrying yourself, and make the best of the time we spend with her." With that, the blond prince opened his book again and resumed reading.

Yuuri was silent for a moment, taking it all in. Finally, he smiled and said, "You've thought about this before, haven't you?"

"More than our spontaneous wimp of a Maou, obviously."

"...Thank you, Wolfram."
