Riley's POV
Hey boo, what's up
I don't do love, so we can fuck
And we gonna do it all night
You smoke, I smoke
You drink, me too, well good
Let's get drunk tonight
And all my bitches that we gettin' cash
But we gonna spend it all tonight
So boo I'll do what I want to witchu
And we gonna have fun tonight
"This song is so fuckin' goofy, yo." Riley chuckled, even though he was slightly bobbing his head to the music.
"Please, this is Honey Cocaine."
"I know who it is, shit. She aiight." He shrugged.
"She's a goddess."
"Like you?" He smirked.
"Almost." She winked.
"Getcha ass over here, girl." Riley shifted his legs a little wider so she could plop down into his lap. She giggled as he pulled the joint away from his lips to kiss up and down her neck. She turned around to straddle him, deliberately beginning to rub her lower half on his hardening groin. He groaned.
"I know you betta stop playin' like that unless you tryna go another round. You know I gotta bounce soon." He murmured into her ear.
"Pity." She sighed back, giving him one hard grind. "But as you wish." She added simply before un-straddling herself and sliding herself to sit next to him.
"You fuckin' evil." Riley moaned, gripping onto her thick and naked thigh.
Tish chuckled as she reached for her own joint that she had rested in her ash tray. She took a long drag before exhaling the smoke slowly into the air.
"Evil…is such a strong word." She smirked.
Riley shook his head as he continued to smoke his blunt and enjoy his high. He was currently doing this in accompaniment with Tish, at her place. Who knew she liked pot? Riley remembered thinking when he found out the first time he hung out with her. It was a pleasant surprise. This was now the fourth time that he'd spent time with her since she returned from vacation two weeks ago. And in Riley's opinion, their time together had been very well spent so far.
They drank. They clubbed. They fucked. And it was awesome.
Tish could get it. The first time they had sex, which was the first time they officially hung out and the day after he ran into her with Cindy, Riley about lost his shit. She was a bad bitch. And as naughty and kinky as Riley preferred. She didn't care that they'd just met or expressed any concern that it was too soon or played any type of games, none of that. She was down to fuck, period. No questions asked. Shawty could almost give Cindy a run for her money.
…Almost.
Of course he hadn't told Cindy any info regarding his recent endeavors with Tish. He was not trying to stir that pot again. Not that he was the first time. Cindy just liked to wyle out sometimes, he swore it. But whatever. That was still his main bitch, and definitely still number one in his book. But damn… with Tish? Dat ass had him like whoa.
"What time is it?" Riley asked, seeing that Tish had pulled her phone out to text.
"11:32."
"Damn." He exhaled. "I ain't know it was that late."
"Past your bedtime already, baby?" Tish looked at him with a teasing smirk. Riley sucked his teeth at her but snickered nonetheless.
"Some of us got work in the morning."
"Some of us don't. But you enjoy that." She smiled falsely, reaching her arms up over her head as she arched her back to stretch. Riley took the short moment to watch her with longing.
"You don't know just how bad I want to enjoy that one more time." He replied huskily. Tish let out a playful scoff in return.
"Oh honey, I already know you want to. But you need your rest. Which means you gotta go home." She shrugged with an easy grin.
"Whateva." Riley chuckled. She was such a diva. But such a down bitch at the same time. Since they'd be doing their thing, Riley never once had stayed the night. It was almost like an unspoken rule. He'd never verbally addressed why and in the same fashion, she'd never questioned him, got on his case, or even remotely caught an attitude with him about it. And it was refreshing. There was no "Leaving already?" "You don't wanna stay a little longer?" "Are you gonna call me though?" Stupid lines he got from almost every girl he'd ever hooked up with, Cindy being one of the only exceptions, Tish now included. He was just grateful to finally be involved with two chicks who already knew what the deal was…speaking of….
Riley casually pulled out his phone and started to compose a text to his favorite white girl. He had work the next morning at seven. He was gonna have to drive an hour home, probably not get to bed until like two, then wake up around six to drive all the way back to the damn city. But if he remained downtown, he'd at least have extra time to rest… and play if he was lucky.
Sup sexy. He texted Cindy, testing the waters. He just hoped she was awake and not in one of her stank moods.
In less than seconds he had a reply: Hey boo! :)
A smiley and an exclamation mark? Shiiit, he was in.
Damn you seem to be in a good mood lol
You know what tequila does to me XD
Hell yeah he did.
True. If you want some company, I can come thru
You're invited then ;)
Lol. Be there in 10
:-* :-* :-*
Riley smirked. It was definitely goin' down tonight.
Riley finished the last of his bud before depositing his remains in the ash tray. "You gonna be aiight if I head out now?" He asked, turning to Tish. She chuckled in amusement.
"Worried about me, Esco?" She asked after blowing out a wisp of smoke. Riley snorted playfully in return.
"Girl, you grown." He patted her leg again as he started to rise from the couch.
"Exactly." Tish told him, standing as well to follow him to the door. "I can handle myself."
"Yeah whateva, C." Riley muttered lowly, but then realized what he'd just said. What?
"What'd you say to me?" Tish said behind him playfully. She hadn't seen the confused face he made and might not've heard him completely.
"I said, yeah whatever, T." Riley corrected himself smoothly, glancing back at her. She was grinning at him, a clear sign that she had not heard his slip up. It took everything Riley had not to laugh about it. The weed wasn't helping either.
"Thanks for lettin' me stop by." He said instead, trying to keep his composure together.
"Anytime." She told him, not sensing his giddiness. Instead she leaned up to kiss him. Riley closed his eyes and kissed her back. She was good kisser, he gave her that. Those juicy lips were talented at a lot of things actually. Still though… they were just kisses. Lips and tongues touching, but nothing more… not that it mattered to him.
When she pulled back, Riley gently pinched the side of her waist. "I'll see you later, aiight?"
She nodded and blew a kiss before she started to close the door. "Night, Esco."
"Night." Riley said back as he walked down from the porch. Tish lived in a townhouse in downtown Woodcrest, conveniently and surprisingly close in distance to Cindy.
Riley loved irony.
10 Minutes Later
Damn, Riley loved marijuana. It always put him in such a lifted mood. And it made everything better. He was still signing petitions in hope of it someday being legalized in Maryland. It didn't matter though. Regardless, he was gonna smoke it if it was in supply.
Riley whistled as he moseyed out of the elevator and down the hallway of the top floor. He continued whistling as he easily turned Cindy's doorknob and entered without knocking. He found her on the couch, a tumbler of clear liquid in her hand and an open magazine on her lap.
"Heeyyy," She greeted, looking up at him with a big smile. "Whaddup, Reez?"
"Sup witchu girl? Whatchu drinking?" He grinned, his eye on the glass she held.
"Grab a glass and I'll pour you some."
"Please and thank you." Riley kicked off his shoes and headed towards the kitchen, starting to whistle happily again. When he grabbed a clean glass from the counter and came back still whistling, Cindy was staring at him and began to laugh.
"Oh my God, you're fuckin' high!" She exclaimed.
"The fuck?" Riley sputtered laughter in surprise. "How the hell do you know?" He asked plopping on the couch beside her.
"Well, other than lookin' you fully in the face now and seein' how red your eyes are," She smirked, then let out one more giggle. "But no. You whistle every time you're high."
"Fuck outta here." Riley snickered.
"You know I'm right." Cindy gave him a look as she poured tequila into his glass. "Who'd you smoke with?"
"Ah, just some coworkers." Riley lied with no hesitation, right before taking a big gulp of the alcohol. He'd already thought of this lie in advance. Cindy could not handle the truth. "You mind if I spend the night so I'm close for work in the morning though?"
"That's fine." She shrugged, chill as ever as she glanced back down at her magazine. That was his nigga.
"Thanks, boo." He gave her a wink, but her attention was no longer on him. "What's gotchu so interested?" He asked before taking another swig.
"Sex positions."
Riley about choked on his swallow. She had said that so ridiculously casual. "Say what?" He carefully watched the corners of her mouth turn upwards as she tried to hold back a laugh.
"Sex positions." She repeated again, not taking her eyes away from the page.
"The fuck kinda magazine you readin'?!" Riley exclaimed, causing her to giggle and look up at him.
"The Cosmopolitan." She showed him the front cover while keeping her finger on the page to save her spot.
"This is a magazine for bitches?" He asked, his eyes sweeping over the cover stories.
"Watch it, but yeah." Cindy laid it down in her lap again, only to have it snatched back up by Riley. "Hey!"
"Shit, I thought you were readin' Playboy Bunny or some shit. Since when do chick magazines have stuff on sex?"
"This one is different. And now you lost the page, dammit!" Cindy complained, putting her glass down and now leaning her body against his to look.
"Shuddup." Riley flipped through the pages with one hand as he slipped an arm around her waist. "What gotchu readin' this tonight? Was you hopin' I was gonna stop by?"
"Don't flatter yourself, nigga." Cindy matched his smirk.
"You clearly thinkin' about somethin' if you readin' this. In some type of mood."
"Call it being hot and bothered, Reez. And not over you." She rolled her eyes when he gave her a confused look. "I'll be starting my period tomorrow or so-"
"Ewww."
"-And I'm always horny during my cycle." She continued, ignoring his interruption. "It's a girl thing."
"Well this shit is my type of thing." Riley told her, finding the page she had been on. "Oh hell yeah, I'mma have to read this." He said, his eyes skimming the page.
"Seriously?" Cindy asked with a scoff. Riley turned and gave her a look.
"Don't act like you didn't know I was a sexaholic."
Cindy sucked her teeth with a playful eyeroll. "Right." Then she giggled. "Which one do you wanna try?"
"All of 'em." Riley replied simply.
"Why did I ask?"
"Why did you?" Riley smirked, turning again to face her. "You wanna get started on one tonight and work our way through the list?"
"Which one do you wanna start with?" Cindy pressed closer against him, trailing her hand up his neck in order to rub his head and stroke through his rows. While Riley closed his eyes to enjoy the feeling, he thought quickly.
"Shower." He mumbled.
"What?" Cindy asked, pausing her rubbing and causing him to open his eyes.
"I wanna do it in the shower with you." He told her simply.
"Oh-kay." Cindy looked and sounded almost surprised at his choice. Probably because they'd hadn't done it there yet. It didn't really matter to Riley though, he'd basically have sex with Cindy anywhere. But tonight, he wanted to wash himself off before he did much of anything with Cindy. It seemed like a respectful thing to do being as though he had been with Tish earlier, and not just to smoke. Riley didn't really know what made him think about it. It just seemed like the right thing to do.
But maybe it was just the weed talking.
Riley smirked. "You ready to hop in now?"
"Really?" Cindy giggled.
"Really." Riley shut her up by kissing her on the mouth. He took her a bit off guard, but she immediately kissed back, wrapping both arms around him. Riley placed his empty glass on the armrest of the couch before he took her in both of his arms. Damn, he loved to kiss her. He didn't know what it was about it, but it just felt so fucking good. There was just something there when they did. He didn't know what to call it. A spark maybe?
…Nah…that sounded gay.
Whatever it was, Riley liked it.
He also couldn't help but notice that the only time he ever felt it was when he was kissing Cindy.
Five Days Later; Friday evening
Riley had finally made it home after a long day at work and he was feeling hungrier than a hostage. Unfortunately for him, he realized midway through his drive back that he had almost no food at his house. But luckily for him, he knew who did: Granddad. That nigga was always well overstocked on groceries. Which meant it was time for Riley to go shopping.
Riley anticipated both good news and bad news when he pulled up to the house. The good news was that Dorothy was not in the driveway, which meant that Granddad wasn't home. The bad news was that Caesar's truck was, which meant that he was there visiting Huey and probably Jazmine if she was over.
Riley sighed as he pulled up behind the Chevy and turned off his car. The situation was only a minor setback. Definitely manageable. All he had to do was get in, avoid them, and get out, food in hand.
Easy.
Riley gently turned the handle and pushed the front door open slowly once he made his way to the entrance. He then pushed the door closed behind him before he began to tread lightly down the hall. He appeared like he was going to get lucky. There was no sign of the others from the living room and as he neared the next room, they didn't look to be in the kitchen either. They probably were upstairs watching a movie or something, which made it all the more perfect for Riley. He grinned as he came to the refrigerator, a big plastic bag already in hand. Grabbing the door of the freezer, he yanked it open to glance inside.
"Jackpot." He smirked, taking it all in. Hamburgers, steaks, frozen chicken, ribs, and a tin container of baked macaroni and cheese were just a few of the options. Riley's stomach growled noisily as he started to help himself to the selections, quickly placing items in his bag. He was about to move onto to the fridge next when he heard an unmistakable sound.
POP!
"OWWWW!"
As suddenly as he'd heard the noise, he was then on his butt onto the floor, a sharp pain at the back of his knee. The food he'd been gathering was now surrounding him on the floor with the container of macaroni and cheese splattered and upside down.
"Mother fucker." Riley cursed loudly, still gripping his leg. Then with a murderous glare, he turned around to look at his ambusher. "YOU." He growled.
All he got was a raised eyebrow in return.
"Stop breaking in and stealing our food." Huey told him from the doorway of the dining room, blowing the top of his BB gun unnecessarily.
"Nigga, you don't even eat the majority of shit in this house!"
"You don't live in this house, which means you're breaking and entering." Huey countered. "I have supreme authority over the house while Granddad's away."
"Are you serious?" Riley spat angrily, rolling onto his knees first before he started to pull himself off the floor. "Nigga, I ain't playin' around witchu! I'm hungry as fuck and just want some food for my house. Just let me have some!"
"No." Huey answered simply, pulling the trigger at the same time.
"OWWWWWWW!" Riley dropped to the ground again, this time having being shot in the ankle. "NIGGA, WHY THE FUCK YOU SHOOT ME?!" He thundered.
Huey blinked at him. "Don't give my number to strangers."
"WHAT?!"
"You gave my number to that waitress. Don't do it again."
"…Nigga, that happened last weekend!" Riley shouted in disbelief. Huey shrugged at him carelessly. "Bitch, I'll-"
"Hey Riley, hey Huey, what's going on?" Jazmine asked breezily, coming into the kitchen and glancing from one brother to another.
"What does it fucking look like?" Riley hissed. "He shot me! Twice!"
"I just got here, okay?" Jazmine told him with the roll of her eyes. Then she turned to her boyfriend. "Why?"
"He tried to steal food again."
"Oh." Jazmine nodded understandably.
"It was also payback for giving that waitress my cellphone number."
"Oh yeah." Jazmine turned to give Riley a look. "You kinda deserved it."
"…Trick, what?!"
"What'd I miss? I could hear the screams of pain from the bathroom." Caesar said, strolling into the kitchen with ease. "Sup Jazz, how long you been here?" He grinned at her, nudging his arm with hers as he stood beside her.
"Just got here." She smiled at him.
Caesar then looked at Riley on the ground. "What's up, Reez?"
"Yeah, fuck you."
"Ooh. What'd I miss?" Caesar snickered, looking up towards Huey.
"Retaliation." He replied.
"On what grounds?"
"Riley gave some waitress Huey's cellphone number a few days ago." Jazmine explained.
"For real? What happened?"
"Me and Huey were in the car on the way back from somewhere when his phone rang. The car is wired for Bluetooth so when he answered it we could both hear it over the speaker."
"Who was it?"
"This trifling chick." Jazmine crossed her arms. "She'd asked if it was Riley she was talking to, and when Huey told her that he was his brother she freaked out, talking about she was so in love with him and thought she'd never get the chance to see him again and wanted to have his babies-"
"What?" Caesar laughed out loud.
"Yes. It was ridiculous."
"I bet y'all started fighting." He smirked.
"Well yeah, I wanted to know who the hell this girl was."
"She apparently went to high school with us. I don't know." Huey shrugged.
"Nigga, who cares?!" Riley barked, finally rising from the ground. "It was a fucking joke!"
"I don't like jokes." Huey stated.
"Fuck yo bitch-ass then!" Riley snapped. "Ugh, I can't stand you."
"Likewise."
"You guys are precious." Caesar smiled to the both of them. "But yo, are we all eatin' dinner now? Cuz to be honest, that's what I came for."
"Good idea, I'm hungry." Jazmine nodded. "How bout it, boys?"
Huey and Riley looked back at each other and held a level stare. "Fine."
"Perfect. Well, since the mac and cheese is now out of the question," Caesar gracefully jumped back to avoid the swipe Riley tried to make at him. "What do we feel like doing for food? Chicken?"
"We had that yesterday," Jazmine shook her head. "We can still do pasta. What about buttered noodles?"
"That sounds good, Jazzy. What kinda meat we want with it?"
"Pork." Riley suggested.
"No." Huey declined, causing Riley to glare. "We can cook the beef."
"Cool." Caesar was already rooting through the freezer. "We want anything else?"
"I want some rice."
"No." Huey told him again. "Granddad wants to save that for Sunday."
"We want anything else other than that?" Caesar chuckled.
"You know what, I do know what I want." Riley started, his right eye twitching. "I want a brother who's not a punk-ass, gay-ass, hatin-ass BITCH!"
"Tragic." Huey replied dryly, bumping past him to go to the stove. "Now pass the food over and clean up that mess. You'll feel less cranky after you eat."
Riley sucked his teeth at his reply, taking the bags of food from Caesar and chucking them to Huey, even though he swiftly caught them.
"Whateva."
20 Minutes Later
Riley surprisingly did feel better after he felt the food begin to settle in his stomach. He and the group were now sitting in the living room resting after the large meal. Granddad had even made it to dinner right before they'd started eating and ate with them. He was now fast asleep in his recliner, snoring lightly. Riley felt that he could easily do the same if he closed his eyes.
"Aye Reez!"
Riley slowly blinked his eyes open and glanced over at Caesar, who killed any chance of that happening with his constant talking. "What, nigga?"
"You up for doin' anything tonight? These lovebirds are stayin' in." He gestured to Huey and Jazmine, who were somewhat snuggled together on the other couch with Jazmine curled up against Huey's side.
"Man, there ain't nothin' to even do. And I'm tired anyway." Riley shook his head. "Maybe tomorrow."
"Y'all lame." Caesar rolled his eyes. Then he turned back questioningly to Riley. "You think Cindy would go to a bar with me if I hit her up?"
Riley narrowed his eyes a bit at him. "Nigga, my name ain't Cindy, I dunno!"
Caesar shrugged and pulled out his phone. "I'll text her."
"Does it look like I care?" Riley muttered, looking away from him.
"Judging from all the hostility? Yes."
"How is Cindy, Riley?" Jazmine spoke up. "I haven't seen or spoke to her this week."
"She good." Riley shrugged.
"What's she doing today?"
"Why are y'all actin' like I'm her secretary? I haven't spoken to her today either!" Riley snipped, tired of the questions.
"You might not be her secretary, but you are pretty much her keeper." Caesar smirked.
"Fuck outta here." Riley rolled his eyes, growing quickly tired of this conversation.
"You're her so-called best friend. When you don't know what's up with the girl, something's wrong." Caesar shrugged. "Why she ain't here tonight?"
"Nigga, will you hop off my nuts?" Riley's temper started to flare. "I don't fucking know. I wasn't planning on even havin' dinner with y'all! And even if I did, we ain't attached at the fuckin' hip! Just because one of us is goin' somewhere doesn't mean the other one is automatically expected to!"
"Trouble in paradise?" Huey asked calmly, causing the others to laugh.
"It must be." Jazmine giggled.
"That thuggin' love, y'know?" Caesar snickered.
Riley silently glowered at them all before he rose from the couch. "Y'all just got so many damn jokes."
"Hey, we're just wonderin' why she ain't with you." Caesar grinned. "If you don't know what's up with her, who does?"
"Whateva nigga." Riley rolled his eyes as he checked his watch and started for the doorway. "I'll tell y'all one more time. We're fine. I'm fine. Cindy's fine. End of story."
Cindy's POV
She kept her eyes on the linoleum floor as she started back up the aisle. Her black snapback rested low on her head, preventing accidental eye contact to almost everyone. And although she knew it was ridiculous, her gray hoodie made her feel a subtle kind of invisible; no one was really paying attention to her.
Thank God for self-checkout. Cindy thought as she scanned her items. She had never felt so thankful as she hastily tossed her things in the waiting plastic bag, then fed the machine a twenty-dollar bill. As she waited for it to process, she pulled her phone out of her pocket, scrolling through contacts. Without looking she grabbed her change and receipt and stuffed them in her hoodie pocket, then she grabbed her bag and headed out the door while she dialed a number.
Half of her wanted him to pick up, but half of her didn't at the same time.
"Yo." His voice finally answered on the last ring. Cindy suppressed her sigh as she got in her car.
"Hey Reez." She replied, annoyed that her voice faltered.
"What's up?"
"I'm leaving the store now. I need you to come over my house." She told him directly. She heard Riley groan almost immediately.
"Tonight though, C? I literally just got home. I had to stop at Granddad's first."
"Riley, I really need you to come over." She tried again.
"Why can't it just wait til tomorrow? I'll make it up to you. I'm just not in the mood tonight." He was already starting to complain, which was starting to irritate Cindy. "I had a long-ass day at work, got stuck in traffic on my way home, and I had to go to Granddad's for food only to get shot at and interrogated. I'm exhausted! Other than fucking you, what's so important that you need me over there for?"
"Because my period hasn't fucking came, that's why!" Cindy shouted into the phone, completely done with his rant. She finally received silence back.
"…What?" He quietly spoke after several moments.
"I just picked up a pregnancy kit. I don't want to do this without you so meet me back at my house. I'll be waiting." And with that, she clicked off on him and tossed her phone in the seat next to her. She let out a deep breath and dabbed at her watery eyes with the sleeve of her hoodie. Then she started the car and peeled off.
Riley's POV
His leg bounced up and down as he waited on Cindy's bed. He couldn't sit still. When Cindy had initially went into the bathroom, he had been standing outside the door. Then he'd started to pace. Then he had stopped and sat at her computer desk. Then he'd got up and paced some more. Then he'd sat on the bed. And now, once again he found himself getting up just to move.
His brain wouldn't slow down. All he could do was think about everything. Think about everything that had happened today, everything that had happened last week, and everything that had led up to the reason he was waiting here now.
He had never gotten to Cindy's faster than he had only several minutes prior. He kept thinking about the look Cindy gave him ever since she opened the door. That terrified expression that looked like she was moments away from falling apart.
"Hey." She'd said quietly, stepping aside to let him in.
"Hey." He replied, observing her. Her blue eyes looked brighter and shinier than usual, a clear sign that she'd been crying. "You aiight?"
"Do I look alright?" Cindy muttered, not sounding mean, just tired.
Riley sighed as he shut the door, then placed his hands in his pockets as he stared down at her. "How late are you?"
"This is my fourth day."
Fuck. Riley had thought. "Have you ever been late like this before?"
"I have, but never this long. I'm usually almost regular."
Riley didn't want to ask it, but he couldn't help the words that were forming. "And you're sure that… if you were…." He had to stop, he couldn't finish it.
"Sure of what?" Cindy had asked, raising her eyebrow. Then a look of understanding washed over her face. "That it would be yours?" She glared when Riley didn't respond to her correct accusation. "Yes, one hundred percent, ass." She answered bitingly.
"Hey, I don't know if you've been with anybody else. It was an honest question." Riley had tried to defend himself.
"I haven't done anything with anyone BUT you. So yes, I'd say I'm sure." Cindy snapped.
"All RIGHT, damn." Riley shot back, just as harsh.
Cindy crossed her arms and glared at him. "Is this really how it's gonna be right now, Reez?"
Riley rubbed his hand over his braids and exhaled, looking down at her. "I don't want it to be."
"Me either." Her tone had softened as well as her eyes.
"You got what you need?" Cindy nodded in response. "Aiight. Let's just go do this." He told her gently. Cindy nodded again and turned to head for her bedroom, Riley behind her. Once they got there, Riley noticed the opened package on the bed, and two pregnancy tests lying in front of it.
"Shit." He said quietly. He paused in the doorway, his stomach turning as reality started to hit him. There was a possibility that Cindy really could be pregnant, with his kid.
Fuck.
Cindy walked over to her bed and picked up the two sticks, her hands shaking as she did so. "It says that they'll be two lines for positive and one for negative… so let's pray for just one." She muttered, reading over the back of the box.
Riley nodded in silence, although Cindy's back had been turned away from him. When she looked back, she looked fearful again.
"I'm going to go take it now." She told him quietly. When she got a barely visible nod in return once more, her eyes had hardened. "You know Riley, this is the one time I could do without your speechlessness. I'm about to take a test to find out if I'm fucking PREGNANT! What would be nice is a fucking word of support or assurance or something! Please don't fucking stand there and look at me like I'm all alone in this…." She trailed off as her voice caught in her throat and she bit her lip to try to contain her tears.
"Hey, it's okay. Don't cry." Was all Riley could think to say as he made his way over to her and embraced her in his arms. It was a lie though. There was nothing okay in this moment. Still, Riley gave her what she needed and continued to hold her and stroke her hair.
"It's okay, Cin." He lied again. "No matter what it says, it'll be alright. Look at me." He pulled back and gently cupped her face in his hand. "You got me. I'm here for you no matter what." This seemed to make Cindy more emotional as a tear started to fall from her eye and she pulled herself back into him, burying her face in his chest. Riley sighed and held her tighter, lightly kissing her cheek.
"You're not in this alone."
Riley felt like it had been at least an hour, but in reality it had only been a few minutes. Cindy was still in the bathroom, taking and waiting for her tests. Riley was tempted to knock on the door or ask if she was done, but didn't want to startle her or cause her more stress. This was something she had to do. She'd come out when she was ready. And when she finally did….
There's a possibility that you could be a father. Riley's thoughts finished for him. It was enough to make him want to throw up. And if he thought about it long enough, he probably could.
Riley's heart practically sank to his stomach when he saw and heard the bathroom door starting to open. He rose from the bed and all but held his breath as Cindy slowly stepped out, test in hand.
"What's it say?" Riley couldn't even look at the stick she was holding up. He kept his gaze solely on Cindy, whose expression had not changed much from the anxious one she'd worn ten minutes ago. "What is it?"
"It's negative." She told him breathlessly.
Riley had never felt a relief like this.
"Oh my God." He exhaled, reeling himself back to plop down on her bed with a bounce. He felt reborn. Like a new man. Like he was given a second chance at life. He felt safe. The word negative had never sounded so perfect. Riley was nowhere near ready to settle down and become a dad.
"Thank God, yo. Damn, I feel like convertin' today." He said with a smile as he sat up. Cindy was still standing quietly, having set her capped test on her dresser. Riley got off the bed and went to her, extending his arms. "Breathe, girl. You ain't pregnant and we ain't parents." He said as he wrapped his arms tightly around her and rocked her. She gave him a light squeeze back and Riley could feel her slowly start to relax. "You feel that relief yet?"
"I do." She mumbled, her face pressed against his chest.
"How good does it feel though?"
"…Pretty damn good." She mumbled again, causing Riley to chuckle. He pulled back from her and rubbed her arms up and down.
"We good, babe. You ain't gonna be a mama anytime soon." He told her, finally getting a glimpse of a smile out of her. "And more importantly, I ain't gonna be a daddy anytime soon." He smirked, causing Cindy to give him a playful eyeroll. "Shiittt, can you even imagine me raisin' a kid? Bein' a family man and shit?"
"Daddy Reezy?" Cindy chuckled, looking at him. "…No, I can't picture it."
"Naw, me either." Riley shrugged with a grin.
Cindy sighed again and ran her hands through her hair. "I just feel so much better now."
"You should."
"I don't think I've ever been that scared before."
"It's all good, girl."
Cindy gave him a steady look. "That cannot happen, Reez."
"What? You gettin' pregnant?" Cindy continued to look at him seriously. "I'll try my best not to put a baby in you." He smirked, moving closer to slide his arms around her waist. When he moved in to kiss her lips, Cindy pulled her head away. "What, girl?"
"I'm serious, Riley."
"Yeah, I know, so am I." He told her, raising a confused brow. "Why I ain't allowed to kiss you?"
Cindy sighed and gently pulled out of his embrace. "Reez… that was really scary. I don't want a scare like that happening anytime soon."
"Okayy…? It won't." Riley said, not really understanding.
"I think…maybe we should cool it for a while…." She said, crossing her arms.
"You serious?" Riley said in disbelief. "You sayin' it's over?"
"I'm not saying that, Riley. I think we both just need a little time to chill. That didn't scare you?"
"Reezy ain't scared of nothin'."
"Whatever." Cindy rolled her eyes. "It scared me. I don't think I'll be in the mood to do much of anything anytime soon."
Riley sighed and scratched his head. Women were so damn emotional.
"Fine, I guess." Riley shrugged, the annoyance in his voice evident. "You gonna eventually tell me when we can fuck again or nah?"
Cindy narrowed her eyes at him. "I'll let you know." She said sarcastically.
Riley nodded once before glancing at the watch on his wrist. "It's late. And I've been tired all day. I'mma head home."
"Alright." Cindy replied quietly, following behind him as they walked out of her bedroom and down the hall toward the living room. "Get home safe, okay?" She said as they reached the door.
"Always do." He responded dryly, opening the door. "Night." He said before stepping out and heading straight for the elevator, without so much as a second glance back at her. He heard Cindy lightly scoff behind him.
"Yeah, goodnight Riley." He heard her say right before the slam of her door. Riley rolled his eyes. Maybe he was being a rude and petty nigga, but how was she going to pull the plug like that? Because of one little scare? She wasn't pregnant so what was the problem? They were always careful and he always strapped, so he didn't understand why she was acting all scared.
Whatever though. He had a feeling she would come crawling back to him soon enough. He could bet on it.
Did I scare anyone else? I know some of y'all probably wanted that to happen, but I already got a story for that ;)
Trying to be a little quicker with the updates. I'm really into writing this one again. Sorry for the delay. I had the idea and everything and had started this chapter two weeks ago, but then I had to go away on vacation :) Hope you guys enjoyed it!
Because a certain author is back in the game and on disclaimer duty, I figured I'd finally do some so I don't get arrested XD I do not own the following: What Yo Name Iz reference at the beginning by Kirko Bangz, The "yeah BOI" line that is Granddad's trademark, Hey Boo by Honey Cocaine, Cosmopolitan magazine, Playboy, Chevrolet, Bluetooth, anndd anything else that I possibly missed. Does that cover things, LovinHueyFreeman? ;)
This was a fun chapter to write. I hope I did it justice. More will be coming soon, but my next update will finally be from FURTDR! :D Thanks for reading and the support, loves! Mwah!
