Darkness surrounded the frightened kitsune as he walked through the abandoned train station. He didn't know how long he had been walking for, nor did he have a clue where he was. "Hello?" he called out, hoping for a reply. "Anyone here? Helloooo?" His calls were only met with silence and a slight echo. Tails looked around nervously, hoping beyond hope that someone, anyone would answer him.

Just as he was about to give up, a soft giggling echoed from the darkness. Tails stopped walking and looked around frantically, trying his best to locate the source of the giggling. "Hello?" he called out again, cupping his hands around his mouth. "Who are you? Where are you?" He lowered his hands and listened closely. The giggling echoed once again, and he turned around to face where he thought it was coming from. He was just about to call again, when suddenly someone ran past him.

For a moment, he stood there dumbstruck, watching the person run into the darkness. It was a young rabbit, and she wore a simple black shirt and skirt, with red shoes and white, knee-high socks. She threw her arms about as she ran, her massive ears trailing behind. Tails snapped back to reality and started to run after her. "H-hey, wait!" he yelled. "Come on, stop! Come back!" The woman only continued to giggle as she ran further and further away from.

Eventually, Tails started spinning his twin tails together, propelling him forward much faster than just running. Soon enough, he was finally catching up to her. The woman's giggling turned to a jovial laughter the closer he got. At last, he placed his hands on her shoulders and the woman stopped dead in her tracks, her laughter ending abruptly. Tails stopped all at once to avoid knocking her over. "Finally," he muttered. "Who are you? What are you doing here? For that matter, where is here?" The woman didn't reply. Instead, she slowly turned her head to look over her shoulder. As he got a better look at her face, Tails let go of her shoulders and starting to walk away, shaking in fear, his eyes wide with abject terror.

The woman turned her body a bit so he could fully see her face. Except, she had no face. There was nothing there, not even flesh. It was black void of endless nothing and darkness where a face should be. Tails slowly walked back away from the faceless woman. Matching his pace, she slowly turned to face him fully and began walking forward. The fight or flight functions in the kitsune's brain kicked in, and he chose flight. Without another word, the two-tailed fox turned around and prior out into a sprint, propelling himself away with his twin tails.

Even with how fast he was going, he could still feel her presence behind him. He could feel her hands hovering above his shoulders. His heart pounded out of his chest. He kept glancing around for an exit, a way out, but there was nothing but the seemingly endless train platform ahead and behind him. An ice cold grip on his shoulders caused him to stop in place. Her head moved up to behind his ear. She began whispering words to him. Words that formed sentences that filled him with feelings of hopelessness and dread. The kitsune couldn't help but let out a scream of terror.

Tails squirmed around on the couch under a blanket, occasionally groaning and whimpering in pain. The pink hedgehog standing next to him looked down with worry. "It looks like he's having a nightmare," she said, her voice full of concern.

"Yeah," the red echidna standing next to her replied. "All because of a text, too… man, this sucks." He turned to face her. "You gonna head home? I can take care of him."

Amy shook her head. "No, I'll stay here. I want to make sure he's ok. I'll call out sick tomorrow."

"You sure?" Knuckles asked. "I mean, aren't you busy managing a big fashion brand?"

Amy bent down and sat on her knees next to Tails, resting her head in her hands on the edge of the couch beside his head. "I'm never too busy to take care of a friend," she replied, not taking her eyes off the kitsune. "Especially not one that fainted right in front of me."

Knuckles nodded. "Yeah, I understand. I'll leave him in your care then. I'm gonna call Sonic and fill him in on what happened, tell him to swing by in the morning. I'll probably head to bed after that, if you don't mind."

"I'm ok with that," Amy muttered. "I'll sleep down here tonight."

"I figured you would. You should probably get some blankets and pillows from his room for that."

Amy nodded. "I'll get that in a bit."

"Alright, sounds good. Goodnight, Ames."

Knuckles walked upstairs to the guest bedroom, leaving the kitsune and hedgehog alone in the living room. Tails was still deep in his nightmare, frantically moving about. Amy ran her hand through his bangs, doing her best to comfort him. He seemed to calm down a little bit, but he still seemed upset. She sat there on her knees comforting him for a few minutes, before she stood up, taking her hand off his head. "Don't worry," she whispered to him, "I'll be right back."

She walked down the hall and into his room. Grabbing some blankets and pillows off his bed, she glanced around, taking not of how tidy his room was. She was suddenly distracted by some picture clips that lay on his nightstand. Her attention turned to them for a moment and she realized they were all pictures of Cream and Tails together in a photo booth, both of them obviously younger. She couldn't help but let out a sigh. "They look so happy in these photos," she thought to herself. "Whatever happened between them?" She shook her head and walked out of the room with some pillows and blankets.

Amy started lying them out on the floor, but couldn't help but notice that Tails had started squirming again. Curious, she began running her fingers through his bangs again. After a few minutes, the two-tailed fox had started to calm down again. The pink Hedgehog closed her eyes and let out a small sigh. "Fine," she muttered, moving to pick up the blankets and pillows off the floor. She placed a pillow on top of the couch and laid a second blanket over the sleeping Kitsune. Amy wrapped herself in a blanket of her own, then lifted the kitsune up a bit so she could take a seat on the couch. After placing a pillow in her lap, she laid Tails' head back down.

By now, Tails seemed to have calmed down considerably, his nightmare seemingly over. Nevertheless, Amy still gently ran her hand through his bangs a bit. Looking down at him, she couldn't help but smile softly. "He looks so cute when he's asleep," she thought to herself. "Come to think of it… hasn't he always? Even back then, when he'd curl up and use his tails as a blanket…" As if on cue, Tails turned to his side, facing Amy, and under the blankets his tails moved about to wrap around him. The pink hedgehog couldn't help but giggle a bit at the sight of this.

A yawn escaped from Amy's lips and she decided to try and get some shut-eye. Looking down at the kitsune that rested in her lap, she said, "Goodnight, Tails. I hope that you feel better tomorrow." Her gaze stayed transfixed on his sleeping face. With a smile on her face, she leaned down and gently kissed his forehead. "Sweet dreams, Miles," she whispered into his ear. As she sat up and leaned her head against the pillow she set up earlier, she felt him snuggle up against her. Amy smiled warmly as she shut her eyes and began to drift to sleep.

"You know, when I said you should talk to him soon," Charmy said on the other end of the call, "I didn't really mean, like, right away, you know?"

"I know," Cream sighed into her phone. "I just figured it would be better to get it out of the way now instead of just keep putting it off. I mean, five years is already a long time to go without speaking to someone, you know? I don't want that to become six. Or ten. Or-"

"Yeah, I understand," her boyfriend said, cutting her off. "I just don't want you to rush into it, you know? Things like this are delicate."

"I know, I know. It's just… I'm worried. I know he's seen it, the message has that little 'seen' thing below it. He just hasn't responded for some reason. What if-"

"Hey, babe, relax. Maybe he's just taking his time to think out a good response, you know? If someone I hadn't spoken to in five years after a break up messaged me out of the blue wanting to meet up, It'd probably take me a while to figure out how to respond. A lot of emotions attached to that, you know?"

Cream nodded a little. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense…"

Charmy could tell by her voice that she wasn't fully convinced. "Hey, how about swing by tomorrow and keep you company? You know, in case he replies. Might be good having a second head to think of a reply to him."

A smile crossed the young rabbit's lips. "Yeah, I'd like that."

"Then it's a date! Well, we not a real date, but like, you know a sort-of, like enjoying each other's company and helping you stay calm and-"

Cream couldn't help but start giggling. "I know exactly what you mean, you silly bee," she laughed.

The bee on the other end of the line let out a sigh of relief. "Ok, good, just wanted to be sure. Hey, it's getting pretty late, so I think I'm gonna head to bed now, ok?"

"Alright, I think I'll hit the hay as well."

"Sounds like a plan then. Goodnight, beautiful. I looove yooouuu…"

Cream blushed and held the side of her face. "I love you too, charming! Have a goodnight and I'll see you tomorrow!"

"See you tomorrow!"

The call ended and Cream lay down on her bed. She held up her phone in front of her face, opening up the messages app. Her message to Tails was there, a "seen" tag below it and a time stamp from two hours prior next to it. She sighed, pressing her phone to her chest. Hey eyes stared up at the ceiling. "I just hope he's alright," she thought to herself. Cream continued to stare up at the ceiling for a while, before her eyes grew heavy and she finally drifted off to sleep.

Author's Note: Another super short one, I know. The next one will be longer. I might be a little late, watching the second Sonic movie tomorrow. Remember to leave a review and thank you all for reading!
