This is just something I wrote when thinking about TGITF, no flames please!

Spoilers - The Girl in the Fireplace

Disclaimer - I once owned everything, but then I bet it all on a Tennis Match. So now the BBc ownes everthing thing in this story. Next time I'll bet on someone who knows the rules of the game.


She loved him. Mickey knew she loved him. Jack had known that she loved him. It was so obvious, yet he didn't seem to realise that when he left her, he'd broken her heart.

She would willingly give her life for him. But he would never do that for her, and now she finally realised that he would rather have someone smart, funny, strong and French than her. She was a shop girl, a chav from the 21st century. Reinette was the uncrowned Queen of France from the 18th Century.

At seven years old Madame de Pompadour was destined for a life of greatness, a life of love. The King of France had loved her. That was an achievement in it's self. But the Doctor had loved her as well. The Doctor had thrown everything away just to save her life. At seven years old Madame de Pompadour met a clockwork droid, but she was not scared, because the fireplace man was with her. He was always there when she needed him.

At seven years old Rose Tyler was destined for a life of loneliness, a life of regret. Jimmy Stones had used her. And he had left a dent in her. But the Doctor had left his mark as well. Rose had thrown everything away just to save his life. At nineteen years old Rose Tyler met her first monsters, and she had been terrified, until the Doctor got there. After that he had always saved her, but then he met Reinette.

Reinette had loved the Doctor, but Rose loved him more. The Doctor loved Rose, but he loved Reinette more. Rose once had a choice, the Doctor or herself, and she chose the Doctor. The Doctor once had a choice, Rose or Reinette, and he chose Reinette.

Madame de Pompadour got the life of greatness that she was destined for because the Doctor saved her life. Rose Tyler got the life of loneliness she was destined for because the Doctor broke her heart, and with it, her abiltity to ever love again.

Without the Doctor, Madame de Pompadour would have died, and Earth would be different than the place we grew up in and are growing up in.

Without the Doctor, Rose Tyler would still be a Shop girl, but her heart would be whole, and she would still be able to love and be loved.

One night the Doctor found Rose Tyler crying, and didn't understand.

One night the Doctor finally realised what he had done, he had broken Rose's heart, but it made no difference, because her heart was broken beyond repair.
