Chapter 17: Dancing with the fox

Jet was sleeping soundly dozing away through the night waiting for the morning to come. Everything was calm and quiet for the little pup. When suddenly...

*SCREEEEECH! CRASH! SHATTER!*

"WHAA!" Jet shrieks when a very loud crash followed by glass shattering jolts him awake.

Jet couldn't see what just happened because his vision was blurry at the moment. He quickly rubs his eyes clear and is greeted by an extremely confusing yet shocking sight. Jet was not in his bed anymore, suddenly he was sitting in what appeared to be...a car. Not just any car, a damaged wrecked up car that was head-on up against a metal traffic light post on some random street somewhere. Jet looks over himself as he was starting to freak out. What on earth was going on!? Why was he strapped in the passenger seat of a crashed car all of a sudden!?

"Wh-What!? What's happening!? Where am I!?"

Another thing that hit Jet was that the car looked super familiar. It was small and yellow much like...Diane's car. Jet's heart started to race as he slowly and hesitantly looked to his left to see the driver of the car. His heart briefly stops when he sees the driver is none other than Diane herself. She was out cold slouching forward on the steering wheel with small red cuts all over her face from the shards of broken window glass.

"WHAA! DIANE!?" Jet shouted in horror

Jet quickly removes his seatbelt and jumps up to Diane's aid.

"DIANE! DIANE WAKE UP! COME ON WAKE UP PLEASE!" Jet shouted as he desperately shook her in her seat with no response. He didn't want to lose her next.

Jet shook and pushed and tried anything to get Diane to wake up but to no avail.

"No No No! Diane! *sniff* Wake up! Please Wake Up!" Jet cried as he was on the verge of tears

When Jet touched his hand on her neck, she felt cold through her fur and she wasn't moving or breathing the slightest. At that point, Jet felt that his beloved fox that took him in and cared for him was dead right there next to him in the car.

"*sniff* No. *sniff* Diane No!"

Jet didn't care anymore on how or why he suddenly ended up in the car or how it crashed. He was too distraught over Diane being dead. Jet started to tearfully mourn as he laid his head down on Diane's lap and held her cold lifeless hand tight. Jet cried and mourned on Diane for a minute as the damaged car sat quietly with hot steam emitting from the mangled radiator.

Suddenly...

*GASP!* Jet wakes up finding himself back in his bed in Diane's guest bedroom. It was still night time outside and the digital alarm clock on the night-stand read 8:42 PM. It turns out he just experienced an awful nightmare. As he sat in his bed panting and sweating out of his fur, he suddenly realized he had to go check on Diane and make sure she was still alive. So without hesitation, Jet jumps out of bed and makes a B-line to Diane's bedroom.

Meanwhile in Diane's bedroom

Diane was sitting in her pajamas still awake in her bed and was happily reading a magazine with the bedside lamp on. Just as she was about to turn to the next page, Jet comes rushing into her room much to her surprise.

"Huh? Jet what are you doing out of bed? Is everything alright?" Diane asked confused

Jet doesn't respond. Instead he falls to his knees crying from his very bad dream experience even though Diane was right there safe and alive in front of him. Immediately Diane puts down her magazine and takes off her reading glasses before getting out of bed to tend to her poor pup.

"Jet? Sweetie what's wrong? What happened?" Diane asked tenderly as she sat down cross legged on the carpeted floor before scooping Jet onto her lap

"I- *sniff* I had a bad dream." Jet said tearfully as he snuggled into Diane's chest

"You did? You wanna tell me about it?" Diane asked caringly

"*sniff* I was in your car and...you were there next to me and *sniff* You were hurt!" Jet cried

"Really!? I was hurt!?" Diane asked shocked

"*sniff* Yes. The car was broken and...you were not moving and talking and *sniff* I...I THOUGHT YOU WERE GONE!" Jet bursted and he hugged Diane tightly while crying his eyes out into her chest

Diane understood what Jet was talking about so she cuddles him very close and comforts him with all her heart.

"Oh Jet there there Shhhhhhhh Don't cry sweetie don't cry. It was only a bad dream shhhhhhh." Diane whispered as she warmly snuggled her pup while softly rubbing his back

Jet seperates to look at his caring fox with his face full of tears.

"I- *sniff* I really don't want to lose you! *sniff* I don't know what I would do if-"

Diane stops him mid-sentence by gently putting her fingertip on his lips.

"Shhhhhhh. Jet, sweetheart you will never ever lose me. I will always be here for you my little pupper." Diane smiled warmly

"*sniff* Do you promise?" Jet asked

"I promise. With every beat of my heart." Diane smiled as she wiped away Jet's remaining tears

Slowly Jet puts on a thin smile and hugs Diane once more. Diane lovingly hugs him back while gently rocking back and forth. As they hugged, Diane came up with another way to cure Jet of his nightmare.

"Hey Jet."

Jet seperates to hear what Diane had to say.

"I know just the thing to make sure you don't have another bad dream." Diane smiled as she stood up off the floor holding Jet in her arms

"Really what is it?" Jet asked

"We share a little dance together."

"A dance?"

"Yes. You see one time me and Mr. Wolf shared a dance together at a big party. And boy we had a lot of fun doing it." Diane said

"Really?"

"Yes. It was a pretty fast hyped up dance. Here i'll show you."

Diane goes to her night-stand to pick up her smartphone and pull up a picture. She shows Jet a photo of her and Wolf dancing together at the Goodness Gala. Diane was wearing her elegant royal blue dress outfit while Wolf was wearing his tuxedo. The were happily spinning around with each other as the photo was taken by a nearby professional photographer.

"Wow. That's looks cool. And you look pretty." Jet said as he observed the photo

"*giggles* Why thank you. Now I wanna take this moment to share a dance with you. Except we're gonna do a very slow and gentle dance." Diane said

"Okay. I would love that." Jet smiled

With that Diane sits Jet on her bed before going over to her dresser on the other side of the room where a large bluetooth speaker sat. Diane turns on the speaker, connects her phone to it and starts playing a slow, soft and relaxing heartfelt instrumental piano music.

"Are ready sweetie?" Diane asked as she picked Jet back up in her arms

Jet nods in response.

With that the two begin to slowly dance away. Diane held Jet in her right arm while holding his hand with her left hand. Right away Jet was starting to feel so relaxed. Diane slowly and gently sways left and right as she moves around the floor with the slow paced music. This was really working for Jet as he was feeling a whole lot better now. He felt so safe being with Diane like she was his angel sent for him. He couldn't help but snuggle into her chest as she continued moving along with the peaceful music. This went on for a minute until the music finally ended.

"Do you feel much better now sweetie?" Diane asked as she stopped moving

"Yes. Thank you so much. I feel so happy again." Jet smiled as he swished his tail

"That's wonderful to hear. Are you ready to go back to sleep now?"

This made Jet feel unsure. He felt he might have another nightmare later on.

"Ummm...I don't know. I don't think I can sleep by myself again." Jet said with a slight frown

"That's alright. You're more than welcome to sleep with me for tonight." Diane smiled before proceeding to gently tuck Jet into her bed

Diane switches off the bedside lamp before getting into the bed and pulling the sheets over her and Jet. She then wraps her arms around Jet and pulls him close cuddling him against her chest. Jet smiles as he snuggles deeper in her embrace.

"Cozy?" Diane asked

"*Yawn* Yeah." Jet said as he was starting to fall asleep

"Goodnight my little Jet." Diane said as she gave him a sweet motherly kiss on his head before falling asleep herself

Just as Diane was drifting off into her slumber, suddenly...

"Goodnight mommy." Jet mumbled in his sleep

Diane's eyes shoot back open upon hearing that word.

"Oh my gosh. Oh...my...gosh. He just called me mommy. He really called me mommy...OMG!" Diane squealed in her mind
