Chapter 18: Folded piece of paper

The next morning

After the long peaceful night of sleeping safely with Diane, Jet was awake sitting at the dining table happily eating a bowl of breakfast cereal when Diane came up to him. To Jet's slight surprise, Diane wasn't dressed in her usual business attire, instead she was wearing nice casual weekend clothing. She was wearing a long-sleeve button-down pink plaid shirt, long faded blue skinny jeans, and purple/violet active sport shoes.

"Goodmorning Sweetheart. Say once you're finished with your breakfast, what do you say we go outside for a nice walk." Diane offered

"A walk?" Jet asked

"Yes. You see I'm not busy today so I thought we spend more time together. Just you and me. So what do you say sweetie?" Diane smiled

"Okay. That sounds nice." Jet smiled accepting her offer

What Jet didn't know is that Diane had a very big secret surprise waiting for him later.

Later Diane and Jet drove over to a small mini hiking mountain just on the outskirts of Los Angeles a few miles from their home. Diane parks the car in the small dirt parking lot of a hiking trailhead before getting out.

"Alright this is where we start our walk." Diane said as she helped Jet out of the car

"Wow. This place is big...and green." Jet said as he took in the breath-taking sight of the surrounding trees of the small mountain

"Indeed it is. Now we simply start on this trail right here. Are you ready?" Diane asked as she held out her hand

Jet happily takes Diane's hand and the two begin their nice walk up the trailhead together. Along the way they happily chatted and looked at various sights.

30 minutes of walking later

"*Pant! Pant!* This sure is a long walk. How much further until we make it?" Jet asked through exhausted pants

"We're almost there sweetie. Just a little more to go." Diane smiled as she held Jet's hand

They did a few more feet of walking and before you know it, they were finally on the very top summit of the mountain.

"*Pant, Pant.* Did we make it?" Jet asked as he stopped and catched his breath

"We sure did honey! Here have some water!" Diane said as she took out her small water bottle flask

Diane helps Jet drink out of the bottle until he was well hydrated again.

"Ahhhh that's much better." Jet said feeling refreshed

"So did you enjoy that nature walk sweetie?"

"Well even though it was a bit hard on my paws, I had fun walking with you. So now that we are up here, what happens next?" Jet asked

"Well what happens next is you turn around." Diane smiled

"Huh? Turn around?"

"Yes. Turn around."

Jet was a little confused but he turns around anyway and is greeted by a glorious sight. From the top of the mountain where he stood, he could see almost all of Los Angeles in a great distance. He could see tons of small houses and tall buildings of the whole entire city.

"WOOOAH!" Jet exclaimed in awe as he put his hands on his cheeks

"Wonderful isn't it?" Diane smiled as she knelt down alongside Jet

"It really is! *Gasp!* I can see your house down there!" Jet pointed bashfully

"*giggles* You see Jet, long walks like this can be a little hard on your paws but at the end you get rewarded with a breath-taking view like this." Diane said

For the past 5 minutes Diane and her little wolf pup sat on top of the mountain taking in the view of the city and enjoying eachothers company. Diane was sitting on ground cross legged with Jet on her lap hugging him from behind with her head on top of his. At that point Diane decided it was time for Jet to have his surprise.

"*deep breath* Jet, sweetie. May I ask you something?" Diane asked

"Hmmm? What is it?"

Jet stood up from Diane's lap and turned around to face her and listened carefully.

"Did you really call me mommy in your sleep last night?" Diane asked tenderly

5 seconds of silence

"...Ummmm...yyyyeah." Jet answered shyly as he fidgeted with his tail

"Awwwww. Now it's nothing wrong dear. I'm just curious. What made you call me mommy all of a sudden?" Diane smiled

"*deep breath*...Well it's because...ever since you saved me off that street, you have been so nice to me. I mean VERY nice to me. You treat me almost like i'm your pup and you feed me delicious food. Everytime you hug me, I feel so safe, warm, and happy and you always make me feel better when i'm sad or scared. So last night when you helped me feel better from my bad dream and cuddled with me in your bed, that was enough to make me call you mommy." Jet explained shyly

"Awwwww." Diane awed feeling touched as she held her hand over her heart

"So right now I see you as if you are my mommy even though we're not related. Like I'm a wolf and you're a fox, I don't care. You're very kind and beautiful and I would love to be your pup...if that's okay with you." Jet confessed from his heart as he slowly swished his tail

"Oh Jet, that is so sweet of you to say. In this case, I have a big surprise for you." Diane smiled

"A surprise? What is it?" Jet asked amping up a little

With that Diane reaches inside her shirt and takes out a folded piece of paper and gives it to Jet.

"Huh? What's this?" Jet asked

"Well open it up and see." Diane said

Jet unfolds the paper and reads it. It was...AN APPROVED CERTIFICATE OF ADOPTION! And it was stating that Diane was officially his adoptive mom!

*GASP!* Jet's heart almost stops upon reading the paper. He quickly pinches himself to see if he was dreaming. HE WASN'T!

"*sniff* Y-Y-Y-You're really...my MOM!?" Jet exclaimed in sheer shock and joy as he started shedding tears

"*giggles* Come to me sweetheart." Diane smiled warmly as she opened her arms inviting Jet for a great big hug

Without hesitation Jet drops the certificate and leaps right into the arms of his new mother. Jet hugs Diane tightly like there was no tomorrow while his tail wagged wildly. Diane happily hugs her adoptive son as her fluffy fox tail wags rapidly as well. They both lovingly hugged each other until seperating to look eachother in the eyes.

"I-*sniff* I love you mommy! I love you so much! *sniff*" Jet cried tears of sheer joy as he snuggled back into his mom's chest

"Oh mommy loves you two my precious little one!"

Diane cooed as she warmly cuddled her son resting her head on top of his while gently rocking back and forth. She also proceeded to give him a lot of sweet kisses all over his head. For Jet this had to be the most greatest surprise ever to him. He was extremely happy to have Diane as his new mommy that he never wanted to let go of her.

As they passionately cuddled with eachother on top of the mountain, suddenly some random bundle of colorful fireworks in the distance started shooting above LA and exploded in the air to add to the heartmelting moment.
