The first time Jack really looked into Daniel's eyes, the storms in him abated. The tsunamis of guilt and hurricanes of grief paused in their rage. The maelstrom his emotions had been since Charlie died disappeared for just that one moment. All that was left was the calm surface of Daniel's eyes, clear and light and impossibly blue.

Daniel looked away first, and Jack was once again caught in the fury of his inner storm. The power of Jack's emotions after the stillness almost overwhelmed him before he turned and walked wordlessly away.

For the first time in weeks, Jack had surfaced. The undertow of his grief and guilt and anger still pulled at him, but now he was determined not to let himself be submerged again. If only to feel the inner peace Daniel's eyes had provided him again.
